Tom Brady On Pace For 37 Touchdowns, 14 Interceptions, 4,400 Yards

November 30th, 2020

These are confusing times for Buccaneers fans.

Some watch Tom Brady leading the Bucs offense and want to pull their hair out and kick and scream. They’re pissed that Brady isn’t beating enough good teams and is inconsistent within games. And they’re charter members of the air yards crowd, that likes to howl that Brady’s deep ball is awful.

Then there are other Bucs fans, the ones that see Brady on pace for 37 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, along with 4,400 yards. They view Brady as a strong quarterback who should only get better with more time with his receivers, and as the schedule softens up in a huge way for the Bucs’ final four games.

Joe’s not pointing fingers at any of these fans. They are all on the money, and that’s what’s been so frustrating about this season through 12 games.

Brady is on track to cut Jameis Winston’s stunning 30-interception total of last year in half, while eclipsing the whopping 33 touchdowns Jameis threw. And yet the Bucs offense still feels out of rhythm, messy, predictable and underachieving. Oh, and Brady’s on pace to throw for 4,400 yards, the sixth-highest season total of his career.

Joe points out the numbers to illustrate how there’s only one thing that will soothe all Bucs fans, only one thing that will mean a damn thing. That’s a home win against an improving Vikings team after this bye week.

And what a long two-week wait it will be.

What? You mean it’s better to have less than half the turnovers but get a few hundred fewer (garbage) yards in the air over the season? Now, that would imply that fewer INTs puts your team in a better chance to win more games. At least last what a casual observer would take away based on 7-5 so far this season. So let me get this right. Jameis Winston’s INT problem for his whole career may have hurt the Bucs records? I never would have expected that (sarcasm).

Not pointing at Joe here–but for all of those who just didn’t think 5 years of Winston was (more than) enough. Sad is, because of Winston, we still have Licht and Arians, which brings in Lefwich as welll. Result: No cap room, sorry game prep and execution, and terrible play calling.

A win against the Vikings. Well, I was sure hoping they’d lose yesterday to further put a damper on their hopes. That said, BA and his coaching clowns don’t have a solution for anything it seems. If the Bucs lose to the Vikings for any reason after their bye week (And Arians is already hedging with his COVID threat comments), they don’t deserve the playoffs.

    bucs mvp ryan succop

best kicker in bucs history, if only we had him during winstons time here. the 30 for 30 wouldnt have happened, that final game againist the falcons had no business going to overtime. Matt Gay missed 3 fgs inside 45 yards that game lol

  3. Alanbucsfan Says:

Since Vita Vea’s injury, Bucs have fallen behind in EVERY 1st quarter of EVERY game, and only led after 1st quarter of Raiders’ game.

Brady is an immobile QB and if you abandon the run after falling behind, you’re asking too much from a pass offense facing a DLine that’s teeing off on QB and secondary that’s being physical with receivers.

The Defensive “game plans” since Vea’s injury to start games have been a failure.

  4. Hodad Says:

I have a great idea. When we fail to reach the S.B. ask Tom if he wants to try a different way to compete at football. Ask him to try his hand at being the next Elway, or John Lynch. Ask him to win his next ring as a team president. He know’s football, is competitive, and very smart. His star power would be a benefit also. Some will think I’m crazy, but who do you trust more, Licht, and Arains to build a winner, or thinking outside the box for a change. Another person I’d take a flyer on as a first time G.M. would be Ronde Barber. Who knows the Bucs better? Who would be as good as Lynch as a first time G.M.? I think Barber would be perfect. The relationship he already has with the organization would be a great thing. Being a team that hires a black G.M. wouldn’t hurt our reputation either.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

Really Joe? “… as the schedule softens up in a huge way for the Bucs’ final four games”? Vikings are no pushover & the Falcons trounced the Raiders yesterday, BIG-TIME. The Bucs’ team that started yesterday’s game will be lucky to break even and finish 9-7.

@Rod … “Sad is, because of Winston, we still have Licht and Arians, which brings in Lefwich as welll. Result: No cap room, sorry game prep and execution, and terrible play calling.” Sums it up perfectly.

@Alanbucsfan … “The Defensive “game plans” since Vea’s injury to start games have been a failure.” Like you Alan, I was pulling my hair out at the start of yesterday’s game. In what world would ANY DC think that Carlton Davis could handle Tyreek Hill one-on-one? Davis got burned for TDs 3 times before we ‘adjusted’ (actually I think Mahomes & Hill got bored it was so easy).

BUT … as bad as the defense looked to start that game, I’m sure that they were exhausted by mid-way through that 1st qtr. Bucs had 4 punts in the game … all in that 1st qtr. Defense never got a chance to catch their breath after holding the Chiefs to a FG on that 1st drive. And the Chiefs absolutely dominated the TOP, not only in that 1st qtr, but in the game … 36:47 to 23:13 and had 72 plays against our 55 plays.

Yes Alan, Bucs game-planning absolutely sucked. Our run-pass ratio of 23.6% was once again abysmal, despite the fact that RoJo actually ran very well when we did get him the ball (9 runs for 66 yds … 7.3 YPC). Even the Chiefs ran it more than that (27.8%).

  6. Ed Says:

All points lead to horrible starts, game plans lack any flexibility based on opponents. Give Brady his New England offense and this team wouldn’t be in such dire straights in the first half of these games.

  7. Hahahahaha Says:

Funny way to say the bucs lost 3 out of the last 4 games. But whose counting, right?

  8. RICHARD weeks Says:

Bowles has to take the blame for not having this defense ready to play or make adjustments the first half..then he plays soft and let’s the chiefs get 2 first downs to close out the game..

Leftwich does not not get a pass either..why does he insist on useing fournette inside the 20? We can only hope that both get head coaching jobs next year.

  9. Bob in Valrico Says:

For the offense, recommend throwing out scripted plays. Brady has to get off to a better start. Two excellent plays for ROJO in both the run and pass. You have to like the improvement he has shown with his limited touches. 10 touches the last two games. Getting Gronk involved early was good, but the offense didn’t start clicking Godwin and Evans also got involved. DR brought up 2 or 3 yard passes a couple of days ago. I wish we would ban them except when first down is required due to ineffectiveness. ROJO needs more touches and I like his chances, Three passes to Founette for only ten yards.

  10. Augsut 1976 Buc Says:

The Bucs are not winning up front, on defense and offense. When he had a clean pocket against the Raiders he was lights out. But that is a loooong time ago. Clean pocket for Brady and some actual pressure on opposing QB’s equal wins. They are consistently getting beat on the line scrimmage both sides of the ball when it comes to passing. This is not complicated, even with a spit and sputter offense Brady will put decent numbers. What would happen if the would win the line of scrimmage consistently and give Brady time like earlier in the year. They would have a shot at a deep run. Oh and run more than 9 times in the game with a quality RB like ROJO has become. GO BUCS!!!

  11. ATrain Says:

Shows Everyone how important Vita Vea is to this line

    What a great Draft pick

Some of y’all slammed that pick

He makes everyone around him better

Unlike the last “Superstar” we had on the line

  12. adam from ny Says:

    hodad –

we’ve been extremely progressive hiring minorities and women…we’ve been a leader in this area for years now…and that’s great…

going all the way back to dungy…

and even further back to qb doug williams under culverhouse…go figure that one because he didn’t resign him..

hopefully yes we can get ronde in here with some kind of high position gig…

i think he’ll be successful in some facet

  13. adam from ny Says:

we have had a horrific 3rd quarter of the season at 1-3…

azz whippings by saints, rams and chiefs…

i haven’t checked the power ranking in a few weeks, but we must have plummeted there something awful…

i guess we really do need this week off…

while most teams are pulling it together and hitting another gear with playoffs around the corner, we simply are not…

also vea is a huge man…and more so a huge huge part of this team’s defense…

since vea is gone a lot has changed and continues to get worse…

vita is a legit pro bowler

  14. TomTerrific Says:

We need to stop filling quotas with the coaching staff and bring in people who know how to adapt and win football games. Time to call a spade a spade. No more Mr Nice guy. If the playoffs are missed again, clear the deck, head coach on down.

  15. 941bucsfan Says:

So basically bucs fans are saying, last year the coaching staff was good, but this year the coaching staff is bad LOL! Yall so scared to blame brady for ANYTHING its sickening. I can guarantee you brady has more Ints in Opponents territory in the NFL

  16. Curse of Gruden Says:

The current generation of bloated offensive statistics means nothing. Of course QBs are going to throw for more yards and TDs, and teams will score more points when the defense can’t make a strong tackle without fear of a penalty. Today’s QBs can play to they’re 50 because they never take a big hit.

  17. Big_Buc$ Says:

We are not winning up front in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Teams have figured out if you have a solid front 4 or a deep rotation on the defensive line you can have success vs the Bucs. Teams now know that if you get pressure up the middle in Brady’s face he is a statue because of no mobility. Now I say this any QB with a clean pocket is going to pick any defense apart. Lets face it BA and BL need to adjust the plays 100% to what was similar to what he ran in New England if that means flats and crossing routes then take advantage of Gronk in the middle of the field and Mike Evans on the outside. I would still use Godwin and AB in the slots in a 4 wide set just because that would be a mismatch. Why can’t we beat any team over .500 at home? I can’t lie I’m glad the bye week came this week but that Minnesota game has me worried because we don’t have any tie breakers and I honestly think the easiest path to make a deep run in the playoffs is the 5th seed but I would be nervous playing NYG again or Washington just because of their front 7. I know we have a better record but they both have good front 7 and they would just attack 76 all day.

  18. Aceofaerospace Says:

Based on the way we historically play down to our competition, I’m not convinced at all that we’ll sweep Atlanta little less beat Minnesota. We may be forced to stumble in the playoffs at 9-7. But, as of today 11-5 is possible. Just find a way to get to the playoffs. Hopefully TB will bring his playoff magic to the game. Until we are eliminated, I refuse to stay depressed. I’m enjoying the ride until the end.

  19. unbelievable Says:

    Don’t care about yards.

Glad to have way less turnovers.

But all that matters are wins. And right now, we can not beat ANY good teams. Green Bay was a lucky fluke.

This team is going nowhere fast.

  20. unbelievable Says:

And anyone assuming we just sweep Atlanta and Detroit is either an idiot or hasn’t been a Bucs fan for very long.

  21. Buczilla Says:

Losing Vea was a huge blow and having our best two receivers hobbled for most of the year and missing multiple games was an even bigger one. Brady is clearly not a great quarterback anymore even though he’s still good. Shaq is a shadow of what he was last year and does not deserve 15 million per. Our secondary is all over the place and goes from having great games, to looking pathetic.

Getting to 9-7 looks doable even though the team as a whole is erratic as all hell. We have the talent to run the table, but it does not look likely.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, go back to the end of last year and those are almost exactly the numbers I had Winston pegged for this year if he started. I think I had him 4400 yards, 38 TDs, 14 INTs…

The INTs under Arians ALWAYS go down pretty dramatically in year 2, after being abnormally high in year 1. ALWAYS.

Again, nothing against Brady, I think he’s having a very good year overall, even if he chokes in prime time or national TV games.

  23. Buc Bro Says:

I am always baffled when I read “They’re pissed that Brady isn’t beating enough good teams”

The Bucs have beaten 2 teams who currently have a winning record.

The Saints, Rams and Cardinals have only beaten two teams with a winning record. Heck the only team the Saints have beaten with a winning record is the Bucs, twice.

The media darlings who are always hyped up the Packers and Seahawks have only beaten 1 team each who currently has a winning record.

Let them have their bye and hopefully they go on a run and get that 5th seed.
