So Much For Brees’ Slippage

November 9th, 2020

“I still have it, Todd.”

This season, and for sure last week, Joe heard a lot about this and it was aggravating.

Entering last night’s game, all sorts of sources claimed Drew Brees no longer had an arm. He couldn’t throw downfield. That his old bones are nothing more than those of a checkdown artist.

Joe was dubious as hell about these claims. (Perhaps it’s because Joe listened to Brees-Brady throwing coaching Tom House details Brees’ arm strength recently.) Joe even took to the “Ira Kaufman Podcast” and scoffed at these rumors. Joe even asked if Brees’ arm was shot, how is it the team was still winning and Brees was carving up defenses?

Sunday night we found out what a bunch of bunk that is.

Then, Joe noticed this from the PFF tribe.

Unless the Bucs play the Saints in the playoffs (if the Bucs quality), the Bucs may not face Brees again. He very well could retire after this season. We may have witnessed Brees’ final game on the turf of the Den of Depression (thank God if so).

But this notion that Brees’ right arm is shot is a joke. He may not throw bombs any more but he still has magic in it.

The Bucs played so awful last night, Joe thinks the defense was playing so much zone because they may have thought Brees’ lost the juice in his right wing.

I wish Bowles would give a reason why they played so much zone. If we at home can see the secondary struggles playing zone why can’t the coaches?

d.smith cant stop that kid if his life depended on it….

A little off topic, but I think TB12’s night vision is shot. This would explain his issues with night games. This happens as people age. Not me, of course. Haha

“Brees still hasnt played with MThomas and ESanders together this year

    add Karmara

saints might be best team in the NFL alongside KC”

I blame BL for the horrible zone coverage.

  6. DBS Says:

What makes him look even better is playing our sorry secondary. They got lucky against the Packers. It was only a matter of time before it caught up to us. Dean and SMB will always get burnt and make wrong decisions.

Nice to have a game like Brees had with no pressure on him all night. Bowles totally did not know what he was doing last night. Most QB’s in the league would have beat the Bucs (including rookies) with that defense they saw last night. This game is squarely on the coaches with their game plans and being unprepared.

  8. gus georgiou Says:

Forgot to add, 23 is another Hargreaves. Why is he out there????? Can’t tackle and can’t cover anyone!!

  9. Alanbucsfan Says:

    You beat the Saints by:
    1) pressuring Brees
    2) successfully running the ball
    Bucs did neither

See Saints vs Vikings playoff last year for formula on how to beat Saints

Absolute poor coaching. Payton & Brees are best in business looked at film of J Dean & SMB; and shouted BINGO. They abused those 2. Dean is either dumb & cannot accept coaching or is terrible and the way BA acts so nonchalanty & arrogant of riding around on his golf cart maybe its lack of coaching players up. Dean is horrible & has made the same mistakes for 2 years and the past 3 weeks are glaring. This was a horrible loss

Todd Bowles needs to return this team to attacking, He is known for press coverage and blitzing. It is like he lost respect for Brees or something. All the film they watch, and you decide to give a surgeon a scalpel and say here you go, all the time you, oh and we will just back our DB’s up and concede first downs. Have at it Hall of Famer. Todd please return to what you are known for. Press coverage and Blitzing. GO BUCS!!!!!

  13. HeyItsAdam Says:

The Bucs play so scared against the Saints. The game plan is scared. The play on the field is scared. They treat Brees like a god and show him too much respect. Every single game he competes 6-7 passes in a row at a clip.

  14. Robert Says:

I had to shut it off at the 1/2. yelling at the screen to man up and blitz the heck out of Brees. Think I saw him sipping a macchiato back there on one play.

A couple weeks ago the talking heads were talking about the Steelers having a hoodoo over the browns. Even with a decent-looking browns team, it’s a mental hurdle to get over. The Pats had a similar one over the Bills.

The Saints have one over the bucs. We’re mentally beaten by them before the coin flip – and that may not change until Payton (not Brees) is gone.

  16. UKbuccaneer Says:

Also – in these tough games where you’re 3-and-out a lot, a punter who can boom the ball 60 yards is essential. We might as well have had a high-school punter out there.

  17. Bucs4821 Says:

The Saints do this every year. They start off 2-2 and the next thing you know, they’re 10-2.
