Saints Win, Embarrassing Day For Falcons, Jameis Winston

November 22nd, 2020

Bench-warmer

Sadly, the hated Slimy Saints upped their record to 8-2 this afternoon by easily beating the Falcons (3-7) in New Orleans.

After watching Jameis Winston look inconsistent in his decision-making while filling in for Drew Brees during part of last week’s game, Saints head coach Sean Payton opted to start Taysom Hill today over Jameis. Hill had 18 career passes before a comfortable 18-of-23 passing day for 233 yards. He also rushed for two touchdowns.

Jameis didn’t get one snap while Payton used other players in wildcat formation with Hill split out wide.

Has there ever been a QB to throw for 5,000+ yards in a season and then be a third-stringer the following season? Jameis is breaking new ground.

The Falcons are a true embarrassment with Matt Ryan eating eight sacks today and Atlanta offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter seemingly never making an adjustment.

Joe is so pleased the Bucs have two games remaining against this bad Falcons team.

  1. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Saints are just a better team, better than most of the league. They are well coached and always have a good game plan…no matter who the QB is. That defense is proving to be formidable. Not looking good for the Bucs to have a chance to get the South crown. I don’t see it happening unless the Bucs can pull it together and win out.

  2. HeyItsAdam Says:

Can I just say I have no doubt the Falcons will play us closer than we should be played. Ryan will complete about 70% of his passes and go long stretches without an incomplete..

  3. DBS Says:

Why wouldn’t Payton trust him even against the Falcons? It doesn’t take a genius to figure it out.

  4. Snook Says:

Peyton has figured out Jameis like the rest of us have.

  5. buc15 Says:

    Whatchu think NDOG?

  6. Paul Wartenberg Says:

I am thinking giving the woes the Falcs have had all year, that their O-line is pretty bad: giving up that many sacks is a huge red flag.

It is shocking that the Saints took the effort to sign in Jameis as a backup but when the time came they hadn’t relied on him in sure passing situations.

Hill may have scored running TDs but he didn’t throw any. Against a better defense than Atlanta’s, he could be toast.

  7. RealBiucFan Says:

Bucs have assembled the best pool of talent in the history of the league. I don’t see anybody taking them out.

Time to extend the gm, coaches, and the players for 5 more years at the same rate they are getting paid now so we can build and maintain this dynastic run the Bucs are about to set sail on.

Brady can win another 6 with this formula.

  8. Snook Says:

Passing yards is a deceiving statistic. You know what’s not deceiving? Turnovers. Jameis is good at those.

  9. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Nobody cares if he threw for 8000 yards. Say it with me he is s turnover machine. That is the only guarantee with jameis winston.

  10. Architek Says:

Truth be told this ATL game looked a lot like the game in Tampa weeks ago.

No offensive adjustments and no counters to the pass rush

  11. Architek Says:

Winston is where he belongs on any contender’s roster.

  12. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Paul, the Saints schedule doesn’t have any real stout defenses the rest of the year.

  13. NaplesBucsFan Says:

We all need to be Colts fans for the next 3 hours

  14. Youngbucs Says:

But but but the cult followers said he will start If Drew got hurt. They said we don’t know football huh oneil huh Ndog oh yea what you say clean House

  15. Frankinthe813 Says:

Jameis, Dirk, Kron, Raheem.. like a family reunion

  16. Youngbucs Says:

Incoming oneilbucs with 3 million excuses!!!!!

  17. Coburn Says:

Hill was lucky to come away without a couple picks himself. He was surprisingly better than I thought short to mid. I’d say he can’t throw a deep ball. First one was so badly thrown that the defender couldn’t stop in time (saints receiver may have gotten away with a shiver as well). Second one was basically thrown to falcons db.. just didn’t manage to get yup for.ir and the penalty. Also had another short one where lb got a hand on it

  18. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

After watching this game today, as much as it hurts my soul to say it, I think the Saints will go all the way to the SB. And it looks like they might be good even after Brees retires. FFS. Can’t they just suck for a few years?

  19. Swampbuc Says:

I fully expect the Falcons to be tough for the Bucs to beat. The Bucs coverages are way too inconsistent.

  20. Joe in Michigan Says:

Only one more injury for Clean House’s fantasy to come true.

  21. Cobraboy Says:

    Saints D is formidable.

    They are NOT a fluke.

That said, Alexander still plays like a deranged rooster on crack.

  22. Joseph Mamma Says:

He is eating them finger licking dubs from the bench.

  23. Coburn Says:

Homer totally agree. Saints have to be considered for sb favourite for the NFC. Such a complete team. Yeah wish they’d have a period of sucking. Can see why brady got rattled early. That pass rush is just nasty. They built in trenches as you should

  24. Coburn Says:

Although don’t think you’d want Hill starting all of next year. Still gotta figure it out if he retires

  25. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I think the Saints are a more dangerous team with Taysom Hill than they are with Brees. He adds another dimension because he can run as well.
As for Jay Miss? I said all along he was signed as the 3rd stringer in NOLA. This just proves it. Hill won’t do what Jay Miss has always done, which is beat himself.

  26. RealBiucFan Says:

Saints are a notch or two under the Bucs.

  27. diora Says:

Their quarterback doing this well is not good for the Bucs. I hope we find a way to beat them to the playoffs.

  28. Coburn Says:

Alvin. Still think very few defenses in the NFL will let you get away with floating those 2 deep balls so short. Mentally he saw the single coverage and made the right reads but those are usually picks. Basically just have to cover the short to intermediate and keep someone on him. Similar to someone like Lamar

  29. We Willie Winky Says:

From first pick in the draft to clipboard holder.

    Ryan Leaf? Nope, JayMiss.

How sad that this team wasted six seasons on a loser.

  30. Tye Says:

Only the diehard jw fans were were in denial…. Many knew he was 3rd string… Trevor is more reliable than winston and could move to 2nd knocking JW back into 3rd position… Winston is to reckless.. no other team pursued him and saints only offered him 1 million…
He could not beat out a running qb!…

  31. Iamabuc Says:

Saints signed Winston only for Intel on the Bucs. They knew the Bucs were going to be their most dangerous contenders this season. Playing time I believe was like the 30th bullet point on his contract….lol

  32. ModHairKen Says:

I guess Payton is a hater, too, Jameis enablers/apologists?

  33. Jim Says:

Wait! NDog is approaching the podium…

  34. Cobraboy Says:

@Coburn: The Saints pass rush is excellent, but I also saw DB’s totally blanketing the Atlanta receivers, just as they did to the Bucs…twice.

That DBfield is outstanding, which gives the DL an extra 1-1.5 seconds to get to the QB.

  35. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Coburn, did you see Hill’s long ball for a TD that was called back due to a holding penalty?

  36. Cobraboy Says:

Hill potentially running the ball, planned or not, makes the DB’s pay more attention to the Obackfield, creating a smidgen more separation for receivers. Or at least That’s what I saw.

A double threat QB more than makes up for a single-threat QB who is really good at that one thing…like Brady.

DB’s KNOW Brady will not take off, so it’s easier to stay in a receiver’s face…or trail & close without looking back.

  37. RealBiucFan Says:

This Saints being good and better than the Bucs stuff is ridicules. This is the Bucs year. Did you all not see the Carolina game? cmon man!

Saints lost to GB and the Bucs stomped them. Don’t want to hear no Saints talk.

  38. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Did anyone else notice that “America’s Quarterback” is conspicuously absent?

  39. JimmyJack Says:

Hill is the future QB for the Saints. Jameis will probably get a chance to compete next year. I predicict a team like the Browns or maybe Jax or maybe Jets are only teams desperate enough to try to see if Winston turns his career around. Winston will join a terrible franchise and will fade away.

  40. JimmyJack Says:

The Falcons will be checked out by the time we play em. They all know the team is getting gutted during the offseason. They wont be playing for the team no more once we see em. They will be playing just to look good as individuals for their next team next years. Winning is not a major concern like it will be for us.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  41. $acbuc$ Says:

Something just hit me after I seen someone post. What if Winston is spying for us. Maybe B.A. sent Jamission on a stealth spy like deal for a mill to collect intel on the Saint. The Saint are gonna draft a developmental QB next year and release Jay miss in the off season. We pick him back up on a one year and let him learn behind the goat. Brady Rosen and Winston 2021..Griffin On Practice Squad. Pick his brain like they did to Cam Brate that one year. No facts on any of that but it we be a mastermind plan from Couch Coach. Hey Jay miss photo bomb Drew and eat some Ws to rub it in if we lose.

We drafted Winston paid him 25mil last year and the Saints don’t think he worth 2mil. He should be thinking about it. His loyalty should be to Bucs. Now that’s weird thinking but how cool would that be.

  42. Oneilbuc Says:

Jimmyjack you probably right about a terrible franchise because we are a terrible franchise when it comes to young quarterbacks. It’s amazing that yall can’t see the real problem . We have never developed a quarterback . So for get Jamies he’s made his millions and he is set for life. But we will still be bucs fans and we still haven’t developed a quarterback . Again it can’t be every quarterback . I guess I’m the only one who look at the organization as the real problem with us developing a quarterback .

  43. Ivan The Insider Says:

    Oneilbuc,

Young QBs are the biggest crapshoot in the NFL draft process. There are many teams that haven’t been able to develop young QBs. Look how many 1st round QBs that Denver has gone through recently, even with Elway helping run the franchise.

Jameis Winston constantly making bad decisions and fumbling the ball or throwing INTs after not being able to read Defenses AND having his accuracy be so inconsistent after 5 seasons is hardly to be blamed on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization for ‘failure to develop him.’

In fact, the opposite could be said… the Bucs got a lot out of Winston during his time here. He just wasn’t good enough to get it done long-term. Why do you think the entire NFL passed on signing him? Because they can’t develop young QBs either? No… they felt they couldn’t develop JAMEIS WINSTON to get the bad play out of him. He is what he is.

Even in his limited playing time last week he almost threw an INT right to a defender. Even after all that “development” that the Saints have done during training camp and practice every week.

Accept it, man… Winston is FLAWED and he may not be fixable.

  44. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    Soooooo

Am I supposed to be surprised the Saints don’t trust Jameis Winston with the football?

    Why is this surprising?

  45. Youngbucs Says:

Typical oneilbucs wanna Change the topic and others words.

  46. Coburn Says:

Alvin. That throw was one of the poorly thrown deep balls I was talking about. I’ll have to watch it again (and you should too), but when I saw it lice and on replay looked way underthrown.. essentially right to the db who just completely mistimed the jump or maybe it was him running into the saints receiver. Either way most recent CBs would go up and get that freebie. The first on was just so underthrown it was like the CB couldn’t believe it and stop in time and saints receiver shoved him a bit.

I’d say pump the breaks on Hill. He was surprisingly efficient in short to mid… Some were easy wide open… But asking him to do it for a while season after teams have tape on him? Not convinced he’s a full time starter. Probably perfect backup though

  47. JimmyJack Says:

Oniel what are you talking about real problem? Currently there is no problem i see. Bucs right now are on a path to the playoffs. We are winning thats all that matters.

You got a point. We do have a historic problem drafting QBs but that dont apply to this year since we have a great QB. Just like it didnt apply to the year we won a SB with excellent QB play from Brad Johnson.

It is a problem worth worrying about. But there are no worry til we actualy draft a other one. That could be next year or ten years from now. Who knows?

  48. JimmyJack Says:

And fir those wondering I just saw Ndog in the Saints message boards. He is busy telling them how clueless they all are about Josh Hill over Winston.

  49. $acbuc$ Says:

We better protect Tom and the whole team. QBs are dropping like flies. Burrow and Tua. Just imagine our super bowl run with Blaine at the helm. Whoever not blocking properly contract or not bench their arse. No Tom no more wins no playoffs no Super Bowl. Get that line fixed now before the league say we ended the goats career. I would hate to be the line men the league keeps showing for years to come. I can hear them now. Tom knew the line needed help. It week ten and it’s still not fixed. They could of gotten plenty of help after they acquired Tom. They were so confident in Donovan Smith hint. Cappa looking better but he still keep getting rag dolled at 300lb plus. Where is Earl of Watford. Lol

  50. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Coburn, you clearly were taking a piss or something. Look at his perfect throw to Kamara that was a TD, but was called back due to holding. The play was like 45 yards.

  51. NaplesBucsFan Says:

I don’t see any weaknesses on the Saints…they are pretty damn complete on both sides of the ball and special teams. I chalk that up to coaching and experience.

  52. Aceofaerospace Says:

Sean Peyton must be a racist also. No other excuse possible.

  53. Oneilbuc Says:

Jimmyjack I’m not talking about this year bro . I’m glad and happy that we are winning . It feels good to watch football in the winter time and my team is doing good. But Brady haven’t played well against good to average defenses. And because he’s 43 years old and we have all these 1 year deals playoffs is not good enough to me . We have to win the superbowl or it’s a bust . But again we can’t keep blaming the quarterbacks we draft at some point us as a fan base should be asking why we can’t develop a quarterback . That’s all I’m saying bro !!!

  54. Reddington Neck Shores Says:

    Uh….America’s quarterback jameis Winston brah….

  55. NDog is an idiot Says:

Sean Payton has come to realization that JayMiss is an idiot too!!!

  56. Coburn Says:

No Alvin I wasn’t taking a piss. That’s the exact play I was thinking of. Was trying to find it again.. but I swear the defender was in a much better position for the ball and they both stopped for it.. for some reason he never left his feet much and Kamara actually came back for it and went up hgiher and even may have hindered the defender from jumping since he contacted him

  57. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs 43 yrs old and playing better than Winston ever has!!!!! And I’m not talking bout win loss record. I’m talking individually QB play he’s playing better than your idol ever has go ahead a spin what I said.

  58. Coburn Says:

He didn’t lead his receiver on either of the deep TD throws .. (one was erased). Both required a dead stop

  59. Youngbucs Says:

With Winston they couldn’t say Super Bowl or bust it was only bust and their beliefs he would get better. Bro you act like you saying something the fact you can even say Super Bowl is because winston is gone what that tell you.

  60. ATrain Says:

    So Bucs don’t trust Jamies

Saint get a look and say umm we will go with the Wild Cat QB

Eat a W on the Bench. Hahahaha

  61. Mitch Says:

@Aceofaerospace you are suffering from faulty logic. Payton has called Hill the future QB and said that he was the second coming of Steve Young before Winston even got there. Also, what happened last year when Brees went down? He started Teddy Bridgewater for five games. Payton went with Hill this year to figure out if he is really the QB of the future and worth the 21.5 million he is paying him between this year and next.

  62. Mike Johnson Says:

so much for those of you who said we were going to be superior to the Saints with Brady.

  63. adam from ny Says:

jameis was brought in to new orleans to act the fool…

like after the week the saints mauled the bucs…

and more importantly to fork over the 2018 and 2019 playbooks…

it’s almost like he’s just a pawn in the game…

    payton to jameis:

“hey buddy we’ll sign ya, but make sure you show up with those dang freakin’ playbooks foo”

    and…

    “jameis to payton:

“yeezir…they’re packed with my things and good to go…also wait till you see my dance moves and latest “eat a W” hand contortions sir”

    payton to jameis:

“just bring the fuggin’ playbooks ya buffoon”

  64. DoooshLaRue Says:

You guys saying the Saints have no weaknesses are crazy.
They have one huge weakness…….. and his name is JayMiss Winsnone!

Sean “butthole lips” Payton is just too smart to let him play and destroy the team!

  65. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Mike Johnson,

Good one man, spoken like a true Nuthugger in denial.

  66. adam from ny Says:

jameis realistically lost serious points with payton after all the post game carrying on in the win over the bucs…

the “w” crap and the dancing by the “playbook delivery boy” were waaay overboard for a dude who’s uniform still is hot off the presses with crisply ironed lines in it…

he’s barely a saint…and all long time saints and staff know that…but jameis thinks he’s in like flynn… UNTIL TODAY

payton also knows if they have to meet us a third time, all the jameis footage and nonsense will be played in bucs meeting rooms to boil the bucs blood before the game…

and he knows it’s not easy to beat a divisional opponent 3 times in one year…thats a very tall order…

thus jameis has truly worked himself into the 3rd stringer and simply a scraggler over there…

  67. Dark Mominick Says:

I am surprised Joe! No mention of former Buccaneers head coach and now ATL offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter!? Couldn’t make adjustments here either!

  68. Swampbuc Says:

I hope the Joes are enjoying many beers on a rare Sunday with no Bucs game.

  69. Godlovesbucs Says:

    Adam,

Although i agree that would upset most coaches, payton was dancing with the team after the win. The guy is a phenomenal coach but he has no cares about what other teams think of his team or him. He has had runins with multiple coaches and mocked multiple fan bases in game. So i doubt the jameis thing bothered him at all.

  70. John Says:

Saints probably most complete team past two years, yet still found a way to choke in playoffs, despite having home games. They always have those chokes lingering in their heads.

  71. adam from ny Says:

    @Godlovesbucs:

yeah his post game boogieing was kind of appalling…i saw…

he’s a lot older and when he probably gathered his senses in film and video study i would guess he knows he was acting the fool…

and jameis was an instigator and initiator of the superbowl like celebration…

bucs and buc fans must store jameis’ antics in their hard drives for future reference

    #ThereWillBeAyeRematchThisYear #GameNumberThree

  72. adam from ny Says:

jameis is buggin’becau se essentially he is a man without a country…

    he certainly ain’t a buccaneer…

    he thinks he’s a saint…

lol but they gave him basically the vet minimum and a 3rd string anointment, and snatched up his play books…

he thinks he’s in like flynn – but seems he’s out with no doubt

  73. adam from ny Says:

and to think i was a big jameis supporter when he was a buc…

when his contract was up i used to advocate to sign him for 3 years 75 mil…

i thought it was a fair deal…go figure

  74. Augsut 1976 Buc Says:

It is audition time for Taysom Hill. He has a 20 + million dollar contract. The Saints want to see what they have. They know where Jameis is. At this point they do not trust Jameis. From a small sample size, Taysom Hill is not a turnover liability, and is a play maker. With that being said, the first long pass he threw was way under thrown, just bad defense on Atlanta. The Saints showed again like last year, that they can run the ball and play tough and sometimes dominating defense. So Taysom Hill audition will continue next week. He is still a big mystery as a starting NFL QB. Again the Saints will have to be forced to put the ball in Jameis hands. In the half of action last week, Jameis was the same erratic QB he has been over his short 5.5 year career. The jury is still out on the Saints, at least for now. The door is still open for the Bucs in the NFC South division. GO BUCS!!!!!

  75. Aceofaerospace Says:

Mitch, you failed to recognize sarcasm.

  76. EA Says:

I wouldn’t say the falcons are terrible, the saints have a great defense, a lot of those sacks were coverage sacks.
At least the falcons scored more points than the bucs, first and goal at the 1 and couldn’t convert on 4 tries.

  77. SlyPirate Says:

    Winston’s Resume
    Heisman Winner
    National Championship
    #1 Draft Pick
    Rookie of the Year
    Pro Bowl
Top 3 in Yards and TDs in first 5 seasons all time

    Taysom Hill Resume
Never played a full season in college
    Undrafted
    Cut by Green Bay
Signed by NO for Special Teams
Never started a game as an NFL QB

Hill beats out Winston. Goes 1-0.

    Well done Hill!!!

  78. stpetebucsfan Says:

Next year JW will have to do a Teddy Bridgewater and find a team willing to give him a shot at starting again.

If he finds the right team…who knows.

  79. Roy T. Buford Says:

Winston is no Bridgewater, and never will be. He is also no Taysom Hill. The Saints needed to play strong D, and avoid mistakes on O. That’s what they did. Hill’s increasingly improved performance over the course of the game is what they needed.

so much for those of you who said we were going to be superior to the Saints with Brady.

All but a few agree with that premise. You were not on that train.

    NDOG!!!! WHERE YOU AT ???

  83. All lives matter Says:

Maybe starting over with a clean slate works for some but it’s getting back to that starting point that can be daunting and takes trust from the ones giving you that chance. Payton undoubtedly seen Jameis as a weak link and felt like Hill’s pocket elusiveness was easier to manage. Jameis will get his shot again but only when it’s his season to give away. Guarantee Payton doesn’t quite trust him yet, and when he does give Jameis the keys it will be when Payton feels they’ve already clinched a playoff spot, which could be another game against the Falcons if they beat the Broncos next game.

  84. Augsut 1976 Buc Says:

Sean Payton Beware, the wrath of the N DOG is coming for you lol, You dared to start the Gadget man, so here it comes lol lol GO BUCS!!!!

  85. All lives matter Says:

Ndog?, that scurvy mutt finally walked the plank

  86. Allbuccedup Says:

Since everyone’s obsessed with Jay Miss, prediction Leftwich new Head Coach of the sorry Jets. Jets sign Jameis for a Leftwich Winston reunion. The rest is history!

  87. German Buc Says:

The Aints have two back up QBs on the roster. One is making 10,5 millions a year and is there for at least two years, the other is making 1 million with no bonds beyond the end of the season. So ask yourself: of which one would you have been more eager to see, how he acts in a real game? Hint: follow the money.

  88. Bucsfanman Says:

I was kind of surprised that Hill remained at QB the entire game without being gimmicked. I thought JW would definitely see the field.
It really does tell the tale.

  89. Bobby M. Says:

The Falcons are a bad team…..the key to beating bad teams is simply dont give them the game away with TOs. The Saints made the bet that Hill gave them the better chance to not give the game away as well as a more dynamic player in the red zone. Winston showed his typical self last week…..drive the field until they hit the 30, then misfires and missed opportunities that led to FGs. Hill reminds me a bit of when Steve Young sat behind Montana.

  90. MtBucsfan Says:

Winston was brought in to just beat us. His high football IQ and knowledge of our team is what the saints wanted. Knowing we have brady and a better chance this year to do something. They brought him in to pick us apart. Payton is a mastermind. There is no team innate more than td he saints.

  91. Oneilbuc Says:

The saints are divided in their locker room right now because the players wanted Jamies to start so this might be a plus for us .

  92. Oneilbuc Says:

A plus for us in the playoffs if we face them .

  93. geno711 Says:

Finally something that O’Neil and I can agree on. Winston is not good for the locker room.

  94. Buc Bro Says:

I could hear Rachel Watson stalker/creeper Joe crying as he was typing this. Knowledgable fans who don’t get caught up in fantasy football stats (5,000 yards) and understand the game know why Jameis is 3rd string.

Payton going with Hill just shows fans how low Rachel Watson stalker Joe’s football IQ is

  95. Baby Grace Says:

Dark Mominick Says: What kind of adjustments does a team make when they are getting the crap beaten out of them in the trenches on both sides of the ball? All you folks that keep thinking coaches can make adjustments when they are getting physically beaten up have obviously never played football!

  96. Oneilbuc Says:

Geno711 We still don’t agree because I don’t hate Jamies nor do I hope he fail . I’m not a hater like the rest of yall . I wish the brother nothing but the best . And again let me ask you this was it Jamies or the organization for the failer of developing him ?? He kept the offense a top 5 offense without a running game . And let me ask you this how many quarterbacks did we developed in our history ? Was Jamies fault that we miss on the entire 2016 draft and do you think that maybe had something to do with him not developing in Tampa ??? And if not then when are yall going to blame the organization because it can’t be every quarterback !!!

  97. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We really need them to lose a couple games.

If we both somehow make the playoffs, you can bet they’ll be our first game. I mean, I’d hope we beat them then, but it would be nice if their backups cost them a couple before then.

  98. Larry Says:

Not a Jameis fan but I haye see ppl pile on. You should watch ESPN or Ian or Adam show. All three said Taysom Hill got the start because Sean Payton wants to know what he has in Taysom. Also said the players and most of the coaching staff wanted Winston. This kind of reporting is irresponsible and reckless. With that said Hill is a great athlete and he played well but I could beat the Falcons with that Saints team behind me. Saints are scary good. Go BUCS!!!

    How bout Doug Williams?

  102. Oneilbuc Says:

We didn’t develop Him remember we let him go because of his race.

  103. DoooshLaRue Says:

How did we not “develop” him?
He won games and got us within 9 points of the Superbowl.
He was a good young QB with a cannon arm.
Certainly cheap, racist Culverhouse effed up and didn’t pay him, but what does that have to do with his “development?”
