Bucs Looking At Wild Card Now

November 9th, 2020

Talks carryover

With a chance to take full possession of the NFC South division lead and a half-game lead on a No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff picture, the Bucs instead were blasted with a baseball bat to the grille.

After escaping New York with a win despite a terrible performance against a team competing in the Trevor Lawrence Sweepstakes, the Bucs proceeded to pretend they are being coached by Lovie Smith again.

The Bucs got absolutely clobbered by the Saints on national television, just like during the Lovie days. The Bucs now look more like a team that will be desperate to earn a wild card berth. The Bucs, after getting their arse handed to them by New Orleans, are now two games back of a division lead with seven games to play.

Yes, the NFL standings show the Bucs are only a game behind New Orleans in the NFC South. But with the Saints sweeping the season series (for the second straight year), the Bucs would have to finish at least a game ahead of the them to win the division as the Saints now own the tiebreaker.

The way this Bucs team is playing since Halloween, they’ve been a bad trick much more than a football treat.

Bucco Bruce Arians better find an answer quick before his team is once again is watching the playoffs on the couch just like you and Joe would.

This season has the smell that it could tailspin when you look at the next four games on the schedule. And Arians, speaking after the game last night, seemed to sense that as well.

As for the stench of the loss, Arians said, “It can’t carry over until Wednesday.”

Sorry, but the contenders turned out to be pretenders. I saw 2 things last night Patrick (before I finally gave up & turned it off) that made all the difference: (1) quality coaching wins out every time; and (2) the game is won in the trenches.

Bucs’ coaching, especially on the offensive side of the ball, is a sham. Last night was like watching Joe the Plumber lead the NY Philharmonic instead of Leonard Bernstein. Bucs should’ve sent BL to New Orleans to study under Sean Payton instead of Jameis Winston.

The beasts in the trenches are a whole nuther matter. On the defensive side the Bucs had close to zero pass rush . Brees was able to just pick them apart. Our OLine collapsed time & time again, and Brady responded in typical Jameis Winston fashion without protection.

Still, in a game of strategy & tactics, we had neither. Kiss the playoffs goodbye. All the talent in the world can’t make up for bad coaching & lack of heart.

The other day I said this game would be the barometer that shows where the Bucs REALLY are right now, and that I was eager to see how the stack up.

Well…questions answered. They are not as good as we thought or hoped.

  3. Oh Boy! Says:

Did the coaching staff attend the game? Terrible game plans of both sides of the ball and no adjustments! Whoever is scripting the plays needs to trash the script. Throwing 40 yard bombs on third & 7 is stupid. Incomplete & punt. What ever happened to short – quick slants to put a drive together! Sure am glad I did not renew my season tickets. I had them for 41 years!!!!!

  4. Elite Vita Says:

How can such a talented team play so poorly. Please fix this.

  5. Hodad Says:

I thought this team had a two year run in them before they blew it all up. Now I’m thinking it might only be one year. We have a bunch of guys, Suh, on one year deals, and other players that need extending. Fail this year, might be a clean house next year.

  6. FLBoyInDallas Says:

On a side note, anyone who thought Bowles or Leftwich were going to get head coaching jobs anytime soon probably needs to seriously revisit that opinion. Both these guys have looked average at best for at least half of this season’s games. They aren’t going anywhere this offseason, that’s for sure.

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

    Sean Payton>Bruce Arians!
Someone will have to explain to me how we can’t get out of our own way on offense.
    It’s a prime example of over-complicating a “kid’s game”!

  8. LVMYBUCS Says:

Talent means nothing if not coached right

  9. August 1976 Buc Says:

The season is not over yet, and they are still better than the what we have had to put up with for the last 17 years, and for many before that. Who knows what will happen, but it is one game, regardless of how pathetic they played. GO BUCS!!!!

  10. August 1976 Buc Says:

Anyone remember 45-0 loss against Grudens Raiders in 1999. That team at least to the NFC championship game. Yea they lost to the Rams but they did not quit. The Season is not over. GO BUCS!!!

  11. dmatt Says:

Arians need to get created and just let Brady call his own plays. With the players we have on offense why not go to the no huddle earlier and often. Just think what Sean Payton would do with this offense. DSmith is going to cause Brady’s career to end prematurely. Why did Bowles just let Brees sit back and pick us apart? JDean had a pick six against the packers but has allowed receivers to get behind him in almost every game this year. The Giants had receivers run free and behind JDean last week but the qb missed the play and the commentators said you can’t do that against Brees, and as you can see, Brees took advantage. What’s up with our defense, they looked confused on several plays. DWhite is weak in pass coverage.I’d get creative and try AWinfield at corner because of his instincts, aggressiveness, and ball hawking skills. With the talent on offense, no reason we shouldn’t score a td on the one yard line. We got out coached on both sides of the ball including special teams. Saints had a simple game plan, Brees exposed JDean, and on defense, no worry of AB, ME, Gronk, n others, just bull rush LT with consistent pressure on Brady and the results will be ints, sacks, incomplete passes…checkmate!

  12. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

    Pffffffffttt, Wild Card??? Playoffs?? PLAYOFFS!!!!!??????

  13. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Karma is a b!tch, when you sign another rap….errrr……. character. ARB type karma. What a HUGE mistake.

  14. Roy T. Buford Says:

Halfway through the season? Relegated to a wild card? Crazy talk. They got shellacked and haven’t shown up for a nationally televised game this year, losing 3 of the 4, twice to the same division rival. But they still have the second best record in the NFC with 7 games to go. Yes, they could have been in the driver’s seat for the No 1 seed even with SEA losing yesterday. But alas. Still, much can happen. A year ago they’d be 3-6. At best.

But if they keep playing like they did last night, the playoffs won’t even be a worry, the Brady era will be over, and it will be new everything.

Frankly, when they signed the cancer two weeks ago, I lost most interest anyway.

  15. UKbuccaneer Says:

Well it’s Monday and the world hasn’t stopped spinning, and the bucs are leading the WC chase, with almost half the season left to play. The Saints have an easier schedule but they’re not gonna win-out from here. It’s still all to play for. Quit on this team if you want, I’m not gonna.

  16. UKbuccaneer Says:

@hodad this team won’t be together next year, but same goes for most teams – next offseason is going to be a salary shedding free-for-all among all 32 teams.

  17. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

The Saints have talent, no doubt about that, but…

The Bucs are truly an all star team, and you can’t score one single bloody touchdown?! Not one?! You can’t even score on when on the one yard line with first and goal?! WTF?

THAT is bad coaching, REALLY BAD!

  18. Ateonetree Says:

Writing is on the wall for D.Smith and Mike Evans. We need to unload both of those salaries. Smith is a complete mental midget whenever he plays the saints. No wonder cam Jordan was celebrating when he signed his extension. On Evans he’s a HOF player, but with how quickly we churn out studs at the position I think we’re better off unloading him for draft picks . Seeing Jameis eat a W last night in RayJay on national tv was disgusting 🤢

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We still have a shot at the playoffs……This week, playoff contenders Seattle, Chicago, AZ, Carolina & SF lost….
    10-6 definitely gets us in..

We need to Win Vs. Rams, Lions, ATL & Min or Carolina

I’ve never talked SB…..I will be very happy with playoffs after….how many years?

  20. 813bucboi Says:

BA, BL and Bowles failed the team last night….

    that was embarrassing….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  21. Ed Says:

I think the lack of preparation for this game lays mostly on the coaching staff for the worst Bucs game I have ever watched. That game was in the books in the second quarter. No first downs or time of possesion on the offense for the majority of the game and a defense that never created any pressure on Brees.

We have been watching Brees for 20 years and everyone that knows the only way to pressure him is up the middle. So be it if he beat them with the deep ball. He doesn’t have the arm he once did and instead of playing physical on their receivers, the Bucs played zones. Anyone could see that without a pass rush the zones had openings. To make it worse, the tackling technique was awful.

Brady was off target and without a pocket to step up in he was hit on nearly every throw. Arian’s staff had the completely wrong game plan. It was a dominant performance by New Orleans and a Buc’s performance that I consider perhaps the poorest team performance ever. You can’t expect talent to cover for poor technique and and horrible play from all units. No blocking, no tackling, no pressure, covered receivers, Brady being hit over and over.

The most dissapointing loss in years for a team Buc fans expected to hold serve on home field and take a further step to cement the NFC South.

Wild card is very much in reach but the division was lost last night.

  22. Wideleftandright Says:

All week for that !!!! The offense has been predictable for weeks.
Run on first ,pass to the flats to Godwin on second,to anyone open on third .
The saints have a vigorous and unpredictable offense and kept the bucs d on their heels all night.
    They deserved to win.
Every time the bucs are prime time they stink it up.
I think there are too many distractions at one
    buc.
Shut up ,stop reading and listening about how good you are (supposed to be) and get to it.
How many fans did the bucs lose nationwide last night.
Jason licht,Bruce arians,Todd Bowles u can do better!!
Jameis are your w last night!

  23. Kobe Faker Says:

“Play the next 10 games Bucs vs Saints

just swap Sean Payton and Arians and keep the same players

10-0 Sean Payton will win everytime

Harvard vs Polk county community college”

    Kobe Faker

  24. Baby Grace Says:

I agree some what with those questioning the coaching. However; everyone who is talking about all the talent we have is highly suspect. When you look at this game we were completely dominated up front on both sides of the ball. Scheme is one thing, but physically beaten so badly is the sad thing about last night.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

Golfcart Arians gonna be sitting on the couch with the rest of us come Superbowl. O told you all we should have kept Jameis one more yr and moved up in the 1st and got our future QB. I watched the Dolphins and cardinals yesterday and these young QB’s are smart, agile, and can throw that ball. They make brady look like Santa Claus on crutches.

  26. bucsfaninOregon Says:

Since I started following the Bucs in 1978 this was the worse. I turned the game off in the 3rd qtr. First time EVER to not watch the game to the bitter end. Horrible!
But, all in all, it was a GREAT WEEK!

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

813 yall said it was Jamies fault last year and now it’s the coaches ? No give that same energy that yall gave Jamies . Brady didn’t have no fight in him last night .

  28. T REX Says:

    Blow it up please.

    No more band aids.

    Licht is garbage
