Where Was The Offense?

October 8th, 2020

“I was rolling, Coach.”

Don’t give Joe injuries.

The Bucs had a 13-0 lead on the Bears with just over seven minutes left in the first half after Ryan Succop kicked a 35-yard field goal. Some national NFL writers wondered if Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians wanted to run the score up on the Bears for not hiring him years ago.

Well, the Bucs’ vaunted offense, with a running back who actually ran for 100 yards (again), managed just two more field goals in the final 22 minutes of the game.

That, folks, is on Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich and/or Bucco Bruce Arians, you pick.

And don’t give Joe injuries. Mike Evans was on the field, no? Rob Gronkowski was on the field, no? Ronald Jones was on the field, no? Your offensive line was fully intact, no?

Yes, the passing game sputtered when the Bears pass rush started pouring heat on the Bucs’ front line. Still, when the Bucs ran to the left, RoJo had nice holes to run through. Why abandon a hot hand like you had in RoJo?

Yes, Joe will get to discipline shortly. But you can hang this loss on the hierarchy of the Bucs’ offensive staff. They botched this game.

They were getting boned by the officials.

  2. bucfanforever Says:

Coaching doomed them. They had a winnable game despite being completely disrespected by the officials.

  3. Bucs44 Says:

Arians no risk it no biscuit???? Should have gone for it on 4th and 1 …. either don’t trust the defense or don’t trust the offense

  4. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Joe write an article about officiating.

That was some of the literal worst I have ever seen.

  5. Lamarcus Says:

BL is garbage. Inconsistent and don’t belong. Like I said BL will hold this team down. Don’t blame the Qbs on tonight. Brady tried

  6. rrsrq Says:

Yep, shoulda went for it on 4th and 1 instead kicking a FG, the defense wasn’t really holding them

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We should have gone for 7 instead of our last FG……

  8. adam from ny Says:

at times rojo is running like a little earl campbell…

    churning those legs…

one of the bright spots tonight…

    rojo runs hard…i’m liking it

  9. JP09 Says:

@Joe don’t be a pu$$y and actually ask them the questions, you’re the one here who actually can

  10. All lives matter Says:

I thought in my opinion the refs were in the bag for Chicago. The Refs dictated the score.

  11. Lamarcus Says:

All the Bucs had to do was run the dang ball. This defense ain’t ready for no playoff run and the offense line got manhandled

  12. Ndog Says:

Let’s see they got pressure, the Saints got pressure.

I wonder why we lost when we have a terrified statue playing QB?

  13. 813bucboi Says:

PENALTIES is what happened to the offense…..

    D.smith…Jensen…

    C’mon man

    GO BUCS

  14. Bird Says:

Shout out to ndog , anthem and jameis almoghty actually rooting for bucs to lose

That nole fan base is really man love …touch your toes…and a pin prick
Nobody tell them to leave. I love it

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

That was a horrible call against Shaq…..

  16. Wesley Says:

    Leftwich sucks.

  17. Dewey Selmon Says:

If you want to move the chains post up Mike Evans on 12 yard curls. No one can stop it and we would have kicked a game winning FG,

  18. Miller5252 Says:

That is the Bucs in prime time! They started good and then let the wheels come off. 0-1 prime time games

  19. bucfanforever Says:

Half the penalties were made up.

  20. Mickman Says:

Donavan Smith has gotta go! He is an absolute joke out there

  21. Erick Says:

You put game away then you don’t have to worry about the bad roughing the passer call. Team can’t get out of its own way. Losers blame the refs

  22. Ndog Says:

We ran the ball, we made kicks we didn’t have any drops yet we lost. Hmmm what could have been the issue?

    WHAT DOWN IS IT?

  23. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Same ole Bucs. Coaches continue to have undisciplined teams show up. We play weak football, and play to lose. Drives me crazy. I warned people about this last year. Someone needs to straight up punch Donovan smith in the mouth. He plays tackle like a ballerina on skates. He’s going to get Brady killed.

  24. Aaron Says:

I’m a homer, but I’ve never seen a team get so many bailout calls in a game.

  25. Buc N A Says:

How can a guy who wasn’t even a good QB be allowed to run this offense? It’s just mind boggling!

  26. Tampabuscsbro Says:

No I am blaming the refs because of how horrifically one sided they were.

I have never blamed the refs for a loss in the last 3 years until right now that was atrocious tonight.

  27. AwShbucs Says:

Ndog, I’m really starting to think you might actually be a dog.

  28. Dewey Selmon Says:

And we got beat by our ex-kicker.

  29. unbelievable Says:

    Pathetic playcalling from Leftwich

Pathetic execution by the offensive line.

And Brady totally screwed up too, though he was getting beaten around like a rag doll a la Jameis Winston.

Oh and the refs indeed fked us, directly resulting in 14 points for the Bears.

But with that terrible soft defense of the Bucs, we deserved to lose.

These guys should be ashamed of what they put on tape tonight. All of them except maybe Ali Marpet.

  30. richardtyson Says:

Rick Stroud’s feedback sucks in a lot of ways.

  31. All lives matter Says:

Another thing that’s been bothering me, why the heck are we having problems defending the swing routes. I don’t know how many completions I see week in and week out on those swing routes out of the backfield.

  32. Mickman Says:

Problem is I believe that Evans and Miller were both on the field for the most part as decoys. No one else to put out there. Better get healthy quick for Green Bay. Jamal dean has got to stop playing with the mike smith cousinions on the line of scrimmage!

  33. bucfanforever Says:

If it weren’t for the refs, the Bucs would be winning 13-0 at halftime. When they called Barrett for the neutral zone infraction and the olineman was moving first on the first bears Td drive.

  34. Wesley Says:

    Worst officiating I’ve ever seen.

  35. Bird Says:

    Ndog

    So oline good?
    Defense good?

    You used those too

Keep the better running gAme vibe
    —-/

Ndog blamed the fumble on vaughn
    That was awesome

    It was behind him
    Thats hilarious

    —-

I will start a bucket of poo today

    You wanna bet who wins?

  36. Youngbucs Says:

Joe you serious you know full well penalties happened to the offense. And I mean a lot of them.

  37. Ndog Says:

2nd to last drive was horrible clock management by the QB.

Last drive, WHAT DOWN IT IS?

Wasn’t I told this QB was going to win us games in the 4th quarter?

  38. Mickman Says:

Problem is I believe that Evans and Miller were both on the field for the most part as decoys. No one else to put out there. Better get healthy quick for Green Bay. Jamal dean has got to stop playing with the mike smith cousinions on the line of scrimmage!

  39. bucfanforever Says:

And early in the game, the refs were handing out flags anytime the Bears signaled for one.

  40. DBS Says:

Let’s not forget how bad Smith sucks in all this. His penalties and missed blocking. We could have had 7 on the last 3 point drive if not for bad blocking.

  41. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

I’m also tired of refs dictating games. They literally kept the game close.

  42. Bird Says:

    I told you

    Ndog is happy

He is a buc fan. Thats hilarious

    When bucs win

    Qb is garbage
    TeAm sucks
    To many penalties
    Luck

  43. Mickman1 Says:

    Donavan smith has to go!

  44. james west Says:

man what a let down, it don’t look good in 10 days, as always go bucs, by the way is it to late to tank for trevor lawrence? just asking, hey it is a bucs life

  45. Sumosam Says:

Missed opportunity on 4th and1. Huge mistake.

  46. Frank Pillow Says:

This one is all on BA. The lack of situational awareness, failure to adjust and/or help his struggling OTs, complete lack of discipline, and zero accountability for one of the most inexcusable sequence of penalties in Bucs history. Sure the zebras were lousy tonight, but don’t let BA hide behind that nonsense. He needs to own this turd inside and out.

  47. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

Freak out from fans is expected with this loss – that was a SURE WIN. Told my Dad in text – to head to bed – “GAME OVER” was my text after 13-0. We figured BA/BL were going to pour it on. Instead, Bucs TURTLED offense. Ugly.

  48. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Some stupid penalties on our part again, that’s on ol’ Bruce, and some terrible calls by the refs. The roughing the passer on Shaq and PI on Dean when the ball was underthrown by 5 yards. And Jensen didn’t headbutt the guy. They touched face mask while talking trash.

The call against Shaq turned the field around. Instead of them kicking from their end zone and us likely to have the ball around midfield. Instead we got it inside our 20 and then had some terrible play calling. So we punted and gave the bears the ball at midfield. Absolutely inexcusable to call some of the calls they made. Embarrassing on the refs and on us as well.

This game should’ve easily been won by us and now we have the f’n packers next. Glad we get the extra rest and practice inbetween

  49. Bucsfan951 Says:

I’m not hitting the panic button. Bucs played a hard fought game and simply lost it at the end. I am concerned with the coaching and play calling. Both are very suspect.

Why not spread out that defense and run the dang ball with 3:30 or so left on the clock? Rojo was averaging over 6 yards a carry and you stack the line of scrimmage and expect Hudson to block. They lose 2 yards and hit the panic button and throw the ball twice for incompletions. A whole 16 seconds taken off the clock! You have to spread that defense out and let rojo run!

That is suspect play calling. Defense played great!

    What killed the Bucs?

    1. Too many penalties!
    2. Play calling when it mattered.
    3. Coaching (Reason for 1/2)
    4. O line
    5. REFS!!!!!
    6. Grandpa Brady having a senior moment

I do have to admit, 6 made me lol at the end of the game.

Does the loss suck? Absolutely but it was a hard fought game.

  50. Ndog Says:

Hey Bird who said I’m happy?

But I am damn sure am going to remind people that were talking jibberish what they said.

If your going to talk it you better be able to take it.

  51. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Also, the Vaughn “fumble” was an incomplete pass. The ball was still moving when he took his 1st step. Then he takes 1 more and then starts to take a 2nd and gets drilled. I also think they could’ve called targeting on Fuller since he left his feet but that would’ve been tough. Just a great hit even tho I believe he never got a football move and 2 steps.

All in all we choked and Brady not knowing it was 4th down is hard to swallow. Vaughn was wide open for an easy 1st down and I think Brady makes that throw to Vaughn if he knew it was 4th down. How he didn’t know is beyond me tho….

  52. alaskabuc Says:

I agree 100% with your take Joe. We had some sloppy plays, but overall we were a far superior team and still should have been able to overcome our penalties. Lack of ingenuity on offense and generally poor decision making by the coaching staff lost this game.

  53. Ndog Says:

No no no 951 remember the coaching was not the problem it was ALL the QB right?

You can’t flip now you have made your statements time and time again down flip flop now.

  54. Coburn Says:

Shoulda ran the ball way more

  55. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

    Bucsfan951

You’re absolutely correct. No reason to panic. We will only get better as the season progresses and getting Godwin and Fournette back will be a big boost against the Packers

  56. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Ndog, you expect a 43 year old QB to win games for a bad team? You’re an idiot

  57. FirstTimePoster Says:

People, please. Don’t feed the dog.

  58. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Seriously as an organizations – we gotta stop giving big contracts to below average talent. There’s no way Donovan Smith should be starting at LT.

I guess you missed out when I would call a spade a spade. Prove to me that I never called out coaching.

Remember, your opinion is not fact. Give me facts and prove I’ve never not once called out coaching

  60. Anonymous Says:

    Good play By Tom Biden

  61. Godlovesbucs Says:

The 4th and 1 was bad. At least try to draw them offsides. The soft coverage was worse… it was obvious they were running slants and swing passes and we did not adjust to force foles to take shots deep. Not giving rojo more carries was devastating. Gotta keep their pass rushers thinking run. Eapecially if you arent going to give smith help vs mack.

  62. Bird Says:

    Ndog

Again. This is awesome. You are the best

Yah. You are not happy? Thats awesome.
Yah. You are being real? Thats truth

Everytime brady goes back you want 2 things?

    1. Bad plau
    2. Jameis full scroa

I am going to bucs / saints. We should share ticketss
I would love to throw a beer in your mangina

  63. Bird Says:

“Oh my gosh. That throw to vaughn was on brady”

Jameis over the middle was pure though

    —-

“I was not rooting for bucs to lose even though you blamed foles for playing bad at one point”. Only reason for bucs in lead

    Again. Bend. Lube, noles. Enjoy

I can call matt gay if you are shy

  64. Bird Says:

    Luvmybucs

He is gone. For 10-12. Yup. He gone

    Oline
    Defense

    Looked the same.

We will get godwin and evans back

  65. Colonel Angus Says:

It was the injuries. None of our WRs practices this week, I’m sure that didn’t help. We had 1 RB for most of the game. Got a hobbled Mike Evans, a rookie and some other dude who’s name I can’t recall running routes. I’d say injuries played a key roll.

  66. Brad Says:

6 carries in the 2nd half was disgraceful

  67. Mirrormirroronthewall Says:

The coaches were not on the field playing the game.

  68. orlbucfan Says:

Why did BA go for it on 4th and 1 in the first half when the Bucs were on their 15 yard line? Why not in the second half? Methuselah isn’t the only old fart having brain seizures. And the refs? Par for the course.

  69. SufferingSince76 Says:

In other words, Ndog, you’re going to be a **rick for the entire year. But I guess that’s nothing new.
