“Warrior” Mike Evans

October 26th, 2020

Bucs WR Mike Evans.

As Joe has stated many times, Bucs star receiver Mike Evans is everything you’d want in a teammate.

One reason Evans is such a good player is his bulldog mentality. If he can walk, he wants to play. And today with Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians speaking in his day-after presser, it sounded as if Evans should not have played the past few weeks.

Yesterday Evans played the entire first half without a target. Arians seemed to imply a reason he didn’t see any passes thrown his way is that Evans was limited on what patterns he could run due to his bum ankle and tender hamstring.

Arians said he was “going through the Rolodex on the sideline, ‘How are we going to get this guy a target?'” Arians said. “We put him in the middle of the field and we put him outside.

“We broke him loose and we got a couple of [pass interference calls] against him. We are trying to target him as much as possible. But we have to do a better job of it also.”

Arians said he holds Evans in the highest regard for his professionalism.

“Mike is the ultimate pro,” Arians said. “I mean, he is a warrior. I probably shouldn’t have had him play in Chicago. He’d beat me up but I would have had to fight him to keep him off the field. That’s just the kind of guy he is.”

Arians seemed to be salivating at the thought of getting Antonio Brown, Chris Godwin, Scotty Miller and Evans all on the field at the same time.

“I think in the four-wides, now that he is inside, we can get him more balls,” Arians said.

When ever Antonio is eligible to play I wonder if sitting Mike a game or 2 so he can heal would be an option.

  2. zzbuc Says:

Great teammate, fantastic player…….One of the better Bucs ever….No doubt about it…..

Too bad he got beat to schitt for 5 years

  4. MattSpy05 Says:

Funny how everybody was burning his jersey a few years ago.

  5. AwshBucs Says:

Yes. Arians is 100% right. In 4 Wide sets, teams will be unable to double Mike on every play. And he will FEAST!

  6. Soggy Says:

you could see he was not running well on the feild, He was used as a decoy most the time..great competitor.. much needed first down catch late in the game..

  7. August 1976 Buc Says:

It is painful just to watch Mike walk sometimes let alone run routes. He is a warrior, but you have to be able to suit up and physically play. AB makes this group all the more a nightmare to defend. AB gives flexibility for the MASH unit WR room. Defenses have to double AB or pay the price. It was already pick your poison when they WR’s were healthy, now it just cranks it up a couple of notches. GO BUCS!!!!

  8. 813bucboi Says:

ME13 needs to be a BUC for life!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  9. Bucsalltheway Says:

Exactly why ab was brung in cant double em both…historic numbers on the way! Stay tuned folks.

  10. adam from ny Says:

his route running looks really bad right now…cuts, speed, everything…

sit him vs the giants if necessary…we need a healthy ME13 down the stretch…

unless something else is going on like he is simply not brady’s guy…but i can’t see that being the case…

he is straight up starving on the stat sheets for weeks now…

rest him up – mike is the man !

  11. Dean Bucs fan for life!!! Says:

He deserves A few Super Bowl rings! He’s that special! Go Bucs!

  12. adam from ny Says:

all healthy, i hope this is the 6 in this order down the stretch:

    1- ME
    2- CG
3- AB (if he can’t handle kinda being no.3 then bye-bye)
    4- Scotty
    5- Tyler
    6- Watson

    7- i guess mickens ???

ps also tyler looks like he has a heck of an upside as a no. 3 in the future…easily

  13. crazyBucs_CL Says:

hopefully they put him in selectively and safely, just few plays…the rest of the time just let him be on the field to help open others… … until he get recover or healed 100% …. great talent that got wasted with JW team….

  14. Waterboy Says:

    @Joe

Mike’s record of consecutive seasons of 1k receiving yards, does that only count regular season receiving yards or would playoff games also be included if they make it that far?

  15. PSL Bob Says:

Scotty, Tyler and Watson have shown up big time recently. Let Mike sit out the NY game.

  16. SlyPirate Says:

    Greatest Buc ever. HOF.

If Godwin pecan play, Rest him against NYG.

  17. SlyPirate Says:

    COOL STATISTICS ALERT

    1. Bucs #1 in scored points scored.
    2. Bucs #2 in points allowed (Teams with 7 games).

  18. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Who was burning his jersey? Not me, I’ll tell you that. GOAT offensive Buc, Brady or no Brady. Ring of Honor.

  19. Buczilla Says:

My prediction of Mike getting Tecmo Bowl numbers doesn’t look realistic at this point, but he’s still one of my favorite players ever and easily our best home grown offensive talent ever.

  20. rrsrq Says:

ME reminds of two former Buc greats, Leroy Selmon & James Wilder Sr., consummate players for a bad team, limited taste of team success, balled the h3ll out, hopefully he taste real ring success, SB ring and ring of honor.

  21. Doctor Stroud Says:

Some posters on the game thread were suggesting the ME was “sulking” or like to sulk if he is not thrown the ball. I don’t find that at all, but I may have proprioception.

  22. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Mike needs to sit on Monday against the Giants and get healthy.

  23. Robertg Says:

He wasn’t sulking, he was pissed he got a pi on a sure TD.

  24. Sesteprenelicus Says:

I hope Antonio Brown doesn’t force Mike Evans to end up charged with manslaughter. Because my guess is Evans could beat the living snot out of him.

  25. DaBux Says:

All I know is that Mike Evans will talk with Tom, The GOAT will show him his rings, and Mike will understand. Sort of like opening the box to see what the Jedi need to defeat the Evil Emperor (Bellicheat).

  26. teacherman777 Says:

Thank God we didnt draft Manziel!

    Mike Evans is a Warrior-King!

Like Tom “The Irish King” Brady.

    Go Bucs!

  27. ModHairKen Says:

Pay the man. Now. Should have never gotten to this point. Godwin is the future.

  28. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Mike is not the run the timing dig route over the middle from the slot kind of guy!! Mike’s strength is sideline posts, deep slants, go routes, fades…. Not sure why they keep trying to put a square peg in a round hole!! Kind of like dropping White back over and over!! They never blitzed him last game hardly at all!! He got those 3 sacks from hustle!!!… They confuse me sometimes but I’m not at the practices and see how it’s going there?? Who knows maybe Mike is killing it over the middle and White is getting 4 picks a practice and just hadn’t shown up in the game yet??… But I doubt it

  29. unbelievable Says:

Him and Godwin are simply class acts.

Very lucky to have those 2.

Stoked to see Tyler Johnson and Miller continue to develop as well. Hopefully they have the same attitude and work ethic.

  30. Ericb Says:

Goodwin is out for next game again and evans still hurt Gid bless him for trying he is awesome but this is why we singed AB . On to Giants!!! Lets get it!!!!
