Antonio Brown To Practice (UPDATE)

October 26th, 2020

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

[UPDATE: 1:03 p.m.] The Bucs are wasting little time trying to get mercurial receiver Antonio Brown acclimated.

The Bucs, of course, signed the embattled receiver this weekend to a one-year deal. And despite Brown being ineligible to play until the New Orleans game in two weeks as he finishes his NFL suspension for being a dirtbag, Arians noted that doesn’t mean Brown cannot practice.

Arians said he expects Brown to begin practicing on Wednesday.

Despite Arians being the offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh in Brown’s first two seasons in the NFL, Arians noted his offense is different from the one Brown excelled in while playing for the Steelers after Arians left.

“I think some route concepts and things like that,” Arians said of what Brown likely already knows how to run. “When I left I think they changed the terminology in Pittsburgh.

“It will be pretty much Ground Zero for him except for the route tree and how we run routes and things like that. It will be a big adjustment for him but we will get him up to speed.”

Joe understands it took a few weeks before the Bucs were comfortable giving Leonard Fournette more than a few token snaps after he was signed just before opening day.

Can Brown really learn enough plays to see, say, 20 snaps or more against the Saints in two weeks?

[UPDATE: 1:03 P.M.] Remembering the Jameis Winston suspension, Joe thought Arians’ info on Brown seemed fishy. Joe was right.

Per Jenna Laine of ESPN, Bucs media relations reached out to her to (she asked the question about Brown’s timeline with the Bucs). Brown can take part in virtual meetings but he is not allowed to practice with the Bucs until his suspension is lifted.

I’m waiting to hear from the “I’m concerned about the repetitions for:

Mickens, Grayson or PS WRs….Hurst, Jonsen or Pearson

Please come to your senses…..AB is a valuable asset at little cost…..if Evans or Godwin go down (long season including possible playoffs)……AB will be needed.

    Or…..simply as an added weapon..

The downside can be mitigated immediately and if AB cuts up and is cut….that would likely strengthen the morale of this team.

  3. cmurda Says:

I don’t want to look past the Giants game but I’m going to. I hope we beat the ever loving crap out of the Saints in 2 weeks.

  4. Jason Says:

I think it might go smoothly. It seems like AB sees the field and reads the d the same way as TB12, and he runs routes and makes the adjustments the way TB12 wants.

Keep in mind that although AB is real world crazy, he always had a reputation of being the hardest worker on the team.

  5. Bradley Says:

You’re beyond ridiculous Joe. How can be that someone who stood up and defended Jameis Winston..excuse me “America’s QB” has called brown “dirt bag”? I’m not saying you’re wrong for defending Jameis, just a hypocrite. Maybe you can play both sides of the fan base here, the Good Guy Brady and the Bad Guy Brown. Great for clicks!! I’m still clicking, but I see you Joe.

  6. Allbuccedup Says:

After the pathetic G men we will be 6-2 the first half of the season. We should be at least 5-3 in the second half. Thats 11-5 good for a high playoff seed.

  7. Allbuccedup Says:

The saints play the bears, bucs, and 49ers next three. 0-3 definite possibly.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

i dont think BA misspoke…lol…more like spilled the beans…

AB is practicing with brady & BL at night…lol…

and when he suits up vs the saints, folks will say “wow, AB looks sharp and hasnt missed a beat”….lol…

    BL IS WORKING MAGIC!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

20 snaps is enough to score a couple of TDs lol, at least be a serious decoy. Come on down Sean and get your whoopin on Sunday night. You wont be slappin BA on the chest like you did Dirk. Woodshed whoopin time for your boy Drew and the rest of the Aints because you AINT winning anything this year. Dem Bad Bucs is here, aint that right Warren. The balance of power has shifted in the NFC to the Bucs not just the South Division. Just ask Green Bay. And Seattle AINT got no Defense. Who Dat going to beat them Aints. The BUCS are that’s who. The NFC Championship rolls through Tampa this year. GO BUCS!!!!!

  10. cmurda Says:

Arians didn’t misspeak. The strength coach is Tom Brady and the virtual meeting organizer is Byron Leftwich.

Would any of us be surprised if Brown has been living with Brady this whole time?

    Bring on AB!

  15. JA Says:

I’m with Joe. Brown has topped off his bag with dirt.
The ONLY reason I can see for this signing is to keep him from the Seahawks and Saints. I say put him on ice until a WR injury or until the season is over—whichever comes first.
Tell me, was there anybody unhappy with out passing game against the Raiders?
To me, after seven weeks, all the pieces are finally falling into place. Why ruin it?
Back to our passing game needing help … I’m listening.

  18. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Don’t think we needed Brown. Not worth the locker room antics or the bad image he gives the Bucs. I think Miller and Tyler Johnson could have stepped up. Godwin seems to be doing a little better and Mike just needs a few weeks off to heal his ankle.

we are hungry, very hungry to let this opportunity get away… one thing only, dont let him to effect the locker room….i don’t care for the rest….

  21. Leighroy Says:

    2nd that Jmark.

  22. August 1976 Buc Says:

How many games has Chris missed this season 3, and 3 at the end of last year. 6 of the last 13 games. Mike has been fragile for quite some time going back to last year.. Did not look to pretty when they played Chicago 2 hands tied behind their back at WR. No sense in taking that chance again. Because that is a quick exit in the Playoffs. AB is better than an reciever on the Bucs, and one of the best all time. This is about having the best team possible to make a Super Bowl run. GO BUCS!!!!! The SUPER BOWL EXPRESS IS ROLLIN BABY!!!!

  23. pewter941 Says:

Does Antonio qualify for the comp draft pick if he leaves next year?

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

    JA

Was anybody upset with our passing game against the Raiders? No of course not although ME13 has a reason if he was a prima donna. Because of all the double teams ME is not getting the ball. AB will take a lot of pressure off of ME.

ME and CG are the best teammates playing WR in the entire league. They are the anti prima donnas. AB has used up all his prima donna juice…he’s toast…this is his major chance if he plays nice with the kids.

Yeah ME and CG may lose some target opportunities…but they’ll also lose a lot of double coverage and should be able to get open more easily with AB on the field.

IF….IF the team makes it to Tampa for the SB there will be more than enough glory and money to go around. Sadly I suspect one of our three top WRs will have to go somewhere else. Love to do it but hard to imagine keeping three receivers this quality…two future HOFers…one potential…I’ve seen teams over the years with TWO great receivers…Stallworth/Swann come to mind but three?

And this doesn’t account for a pro bowl future HOFer at TE. This team is getting scary!

  27. Joe in Michigan Says:

Yes, sign AB and “keep him on ice”. Because you don’t like him, you’d rather see Grayson or Watson out there. If your hurt feelings mattered to the Bucs, they wouldn’t have signed AB in the first place.

Your last comment about Mike needing a few weeks off negates your argument.

August 1976 I demand you retract your statement that Mike Evans is fragile. That is the biggest abomination of a statement worse then some of the crap our resident trolls come up with…..100% honestly the guy who calls Brady noodle arm makes better sense then what you just said……….but its all good baby……I feel like you had something to say that made decent sense you just made a verybad choice of words.

Just apoligize take back the fragile word and all is good. Otherwise maybe ya outta turn in you fan card.

In 2006, Randy Moss was a malcontent, problem child, NFL pariah. In 13 games he put up 553 yards. He was done.

In 2007, Moss went to the Patriots and played with TB12. He recorded the best year of his career and three pro bowl seasons.

TB12 is leading AB’s return. He’s putting his cred on the line. This will work.

  38. Joe in Michigan Says:

Good point, SlyPirate. I’ve never been a fan of AB, but he’s a Buc now. I never liked Suh before he became a Buc, but I do now.

  41. justanotherbucsfan Says:

  42. geno711 Says:

i am pretty sure that he AB can practice with Brady at Berkley Prep.

I also think that they guy who lives next to Leftwich has offered his place for unorganized practice as well.

  43. Clean House Says:

    Hey Of Course-

I had been saying weeks ago that I was starting to come around- I now believe that getting Brady was not only the right choice, but is the Best Bucs QBing and attitude I’ve seen by far- it’s beautiful to watch him pick people apart- reminds me of Peyton Manning. I don’t like the way Arians three Jameis under the bus, they could have achieved the same goal with a lot more class, and less underhanded comments. I still believe JW is talented to the tune of 5109 yds to lead the NFL last year- it’s FACT-

I am coming around on the staffs team vision and give Licht and Arians kudos for their performance and overall choices. I love the AB signing. Hope it works very well. I’m fully on board and having lots of fun. Love the defense jelling and now the offense.
As for the useless piece of skin comment- I know you are but what am I?

  44. Clean House Says:

If I was JW- Bruce Arians would have had some public comments coming back his way- But hey- maybe he was smart by keeping his mouth shut and will get to play again.

Downside can be mitigated immediately? Downside is about to hit. That would be the guys having to answer questions about this psychopath every single day. And that’s the best case scenario if it’s only that. He wont make it the rest of the season. Still hoping he never plays again. Prefer they win it all without selling out. Hide the women and children!!

    Excellent, excellent points both.

I, too, was concerned about Suh being a “cancer” and he has been anything but.

I suspect Tom Brady knows AB better, in greater detail, than anyone on JBF. I trust Brady.

  47. rrsrq Says:

Just remembering last year, initially Perrimen didn’t show up, I believe he was hobbled, then ME goes out and we see a glimpse of Perrimen, Then Scotty and Godwin go out and we see the best of Perrimen (so did the Jets) – we would not have been even a little bit competitive without him, this is likely the thinking of coaching and GM, nothing against these guys but do we want to come to the 4th quarter of the season with Scooter, Watson, Johnson and Cyril Grayson, ijs, also no OJ and we see the commitment of getting Brate and Hudson involved. However, we do have a running game, but playoff hunt time, can our offensive line continue to make a way

Kind of intrigued how most of you think crazy can be miraculously fixed with with a few glances into Tony Robbins’ over abundance of white, blindingly shiny teeth.
AB’s gonna do this—AB’s gonna do that—and will forever be a reticent angel.
He will suddenly think of others first instead of himself. He will say hello to all the stadium vendors and cleaning crews and buy them all gifts for Christmas while, once again, becoming the best receiver in all of football.
I hope I’m wrong. Maybe AB will turn his life around. Recent history, however, says no.

  51. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

If AB is any problem at all, and he might be, he will be immediately jetissoned.

  52. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Randy Moss, LeGarrette Blount and Aqib Talib, all problem players that were let go, yet went on to play in super bowls, with Tom Brady.
The Bucs really pissed me off when they got rid of both Blount and Talib.
Talib especially, who was my personal “Hero” for smacking that rude Cab Driver up side his head!
Antonio Brown is a super talented wide receiver, and as soon as he starts playing, makes our team even better.
When I buy my Season Tickets, I am not looking for someone to go to Church with, or a nice guy to date my Niece. I want to see a winning football team, not a bunch of Choirboys.
Welcome to Tampa Mr Brown !!!!!!!!

  53. Hawk Says:

Picking up AB (at almost league minimum) is a win-win for the Bucs.
If he can keep his head on straight for 10-11 games, then he was a bargain that the Buc defense didn’t have to face. If he messes up, **nobody** will want him, so again, the Buc defense won’t have to face him.

It is painful just to watch Mike walk sometimes let alone run routes. He is a WARRIOR, but you have to be able to suit up and physically play. AB makes this group all the more a nightmare to defend. AB gives flexibility for the MASH unit WR room. Defenses have to double AB or pay the price. It was already pick your poison when they WR’s were healthy, now it just cranks it up a couple of notches. GO BUCS!!!!

TB12 spreads it around; check the game stats. AB can become a great teammate…just has to make it so. Depth. The Bucs are not playing for next year’s SB, yet; going after this one. Not sure how other teams are going to cover these guys. Yeah, let the defense rest, so they can dominate. Good stuff happening on the field, and it keeps getting better. Go Bucs!

  67. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

This dude is a horrible human being… Again, has NOTHING to do with his ability!! An awful person!! And you people trying to deflect the guilt and comparing Winston are reaching!!! Similar harassment charges and I said the same thing about him!! That he should not be allowed in the NFL!! We have to hold higher standards for our heros and role models!! Because like it or not your kids will look up to them as just that!!!…. Being decent human beings and accountable and having personal responsibility is more important than one more food receiver!! …. While Winston had the same accusations he acted NOTHING like this idiot!!! Winston was ALWAYS a team first guy and led a good example while in the league and in the field…. His off field stuff should have got him banned from the NFL but he was always a better teammate and all that than this dummy!!
