Tony Gonzalez Talks “Boiling” Bucs

October 27th, 2020

Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez admits he wrote off one key Buccaneer and was skeptical of another.

Now, Gonzalez has moved on all-in on the Bucs and says just one thing can cool the off.

Gonzalez was barking on FOX Sports Radio yesterday about how gigantically improved Tom Brady looks from early this season, and the former Falcons and Chiefs star said he wrote off his former FOX colleague Rob Gronkowski a few weeks ago — “I guessed the partying was catching up to him” — but has to talk all that back now.

“This time right now is boiling to me,” Gonzalez said, using an analogy of the Bucs as water in a pot heating up. It’s nothing when it starts but now their a rolling boil with all phases of the team popping.

The Brady offense should keep humming louder, Gonzalez said, unless one of the mightiest forces in professional sports gets in the way.

Ego.

“With Antonio Brown, it’s going to be a merry-go-round of talent. You gotta pick; you want to ride the zebra today, you want to ride the horse, you wanna ride the lion,” Gonzalez said. “That’s the only thing that’s going stop this team at this point, and I don’t think it’s going to happen because Tom Brady is there, it’s about guys checking their ego at the door.”

Gonzalez noted that “ego has no amigo” and it just can’t become an issue if the Bucs want to reach their peak.

Yes, the Bucs say they’ll cut Brown if he start acting up. That sounds nice, but it’s a bad and distracting situation if the nonsense comes in late December and he’s carved out a productive role.

and I don’t think it’s going to happen because Tom Brady is there

  2. Kalind Says:

I don’t care when it is. I’d do it mid game if it’s called for. He doesn’t get a second chance. He looks at BA wrong, or Licht, whines about a drill in practice, tweets anything at all, posts on instagram anything at all, runs a route too slow, says anything less than effusive praise/encouragement….

    Cut him. Period.

  3. August 1976 Buc Says:

I just do not think will go nuts this season. No one can honestly say what will happen. So they are following the BA’s mantra “no risk it (AB) no biscuit” lol Brady is driving the Juggarnaut, and it is just starting to rumble. GO BUCS!!!!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    MAGA

    “MAKE ANTONIO GREAT AGAIN”

  5. The Coroner Says:

Yep. That’s how you boil a frog.

  6. August 1976 Buc Says:

Juggernaut- any large, overpowering, destructive force or object, as war, a giant battleship, or a powerful football team.

Yep That’s the Bucs of 2020, the measuring stick in the NFC, and soon we will see against Ma home boy in Tampa. NFC CHAMPIONSHIP ROLLS THROUGH TAMPA!!! GO BUCS!!!!!

  7. AwShbucs Says:

The ending of this article made me puke in my mouth.

  8. Casual Observer Says:

AB surely will be on his best behavior – on all things – all the time. He has a chance to get a super bowl ring. Don’t think he’ll blow that.

  9. Brad Says:

Will you just stop Joe. Everyone except Godwin (contract year) has a reason not to complain. Godwin will get the most balls anyways. Evans never won, AB Last chance, Fournette repair image, Jones should be happy to play after last 2 years, Gronk doesn’t bitch, The rest of the guys are role players and or rookies.
Brady is the guys who will keep the fringe guys ready to play.

  10. Sesteprenelicus Says:

Brady needs to stay healthy too… injuries can destroy a rolling team.

  11. PSL Bob Says:

The reason why this may work, is because Brady reads defenses so well, and nearly always throws to the open receiver or to the mismatch. He doesn’t decide which receiver will get the ball before they break the huddle. He reads the coverages and then checks down to the open guy. That’s partially why Evan’s has been targeted so little in the last two games – he’s being double covered or the route breaks down, and Brady looks elsewhere. So, just because you’re an elite receiver named AB, doesn’t mean your going to be targeted every play. If you’re open, look for the ball. If there are safer option, forgetaboutit. So yeah, take a voucher and check the ego at the door.

  12. 813bucboi Says:

    not worried about AB….

    BL IS WORKING MAGIC!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  13. Brad Says:

And just like that Godwin is out

  14. buc15 Says:

Goal #1: keep Brady healthy at all costs. Goals 2-10#: reach goal #1

  15. Alanbucsfan Says:

If he’s producing and Bucs are winning – who’s going to cause problems?
This doesn’t work if Bucs are losing and Brown’s not getting targeted- but that’s not gonna happen.
Now if Bucs are winning and Brown becomes a problem, Bucs cut him.

  16. SlyPirate Says:

Joe had a couple of bloody’s before writing this piece. I’m hate grammar police but that 2nd sentence is a doozy … or maybe boozy.

  17. Mike Says:

Antonio will get a new nickname after this season… Boy Scout. Because he’s going to be very humbled and just eager to play ball.

  18. ©MadMax Says:

AB will reel it in…just wait….im feeling it….we’re winning it all this year babe!

  19. Shecky Says:

AB has to fully understand this is his last go-round. He blows this and he’s done, period. I know he also respects Brady a TON and knows that #12 stuck out his neck to get him on the roster (and get that last chance.) No whining about targets, no locker room shenanigans and no senseless tweeting.
“Be team first or be gone,” as Arians said.

  20. Mike C Says:

TB is to AB as MJ was to DR, he will keep him straight between the lines. And from the looks of it with all the self help gurus it seems like AB is actually trying to walk the line…

  21. Bucshot Says:

    ROILING my friends……

  22. Doctor Stroud Says:

I have no idea what Tony Gonzalez is talking about…

  23. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

He should have to prove himself BEFORE being allowed back in the league!!! I mean how long has it been since he’s done something of low IQ and ghetto idiot standards?? …. But he talked to Tony Robbins for 20 minutes so problem solved right!!….. This isn’t about the team for me, I know he’ll play football good and he’ll probably be ok for awhile personally… My thing is these people shouldn’t be allowed in the league when they have done the things he’s done!! It’s a business and any one of you out there would be fired right away if you acted that way!! And more than likely sitting in jail because you couldn’t afford the 20k bail and 200k lawyer to bail you out!!! He should be held to the same standards I don’t give a f how good he is!!!! It’s a shameful and a pathetic act of greed and desperation!!!

  24. REDZONE BA Says:

SorryJack – A few years ago my company had Tony Robbins as speaker, for an hour, and Tony R proceeded to blab on for 2.5 hours. Pure Torture! No way did Tony Robbins talk for only 20mins to AB, and whatever time he did have with AB, am sure AB tuned him out quickly. What a joke.

My bet is AB will be AB soon after his return. Bucs are rolling the dice adding this nut job to a winning team with amazing chemistry, as insurance policy. But that is just my opinion. 2018 and earlier, AB was best WR in the game. We shall see in the Saints game, what we have in AB.

  25. Boston Boy Says:

Ho hum. Much ado about NOTHING. Nothing is ‘boiling” but this pathetic attempt to undermine BA and management and discredit Brown before he has done anything.

  26. REDZONE BA Says:

@Boston – AB’s upteen second chances > are why everyone is skeptical – that’s all. AB’s talent is not in question.
