Bucs right tackle Tristan Wirfs

So if you were Chargers stud defensive end Joey Bosa, which Bucs tackle would you want to pass rush against?

Bosa rushes from both edges and seems to be moving around more with Pro Bowl edge rusher Melvin Ingram on injured reserve (yet another Chargers injury!). Bosa did that quite a bit last Sunday in the Chargers’ loss to the Panthers, and Joe expects to see it against the Bucs today.

But what Joe really wants to see is where Bosa spends most of his time. Will he go after rookie right tackle Tristan Wirfs or Donovan Smith, who isn’t having a great year?

The Chargers’ best chance to win today might be getting through to Tom Brady and delivering a hit that knocks him out of the game. So Joe’s curious to see where the Chargers unleash Bosa most.

A tricep injury and an ankle issue cause Bosa to miss practice time this week. And a fragile ankle on wet turf is a bad combination, so Joe’s not expecting the best of Bosa. Still he’s an impact player, and Joe’s eager to see how the Bucs tackles handle the challenge. Smith could really use a bounceback kind of game.

wirfs seems to already be a player after 3 games…the kid is nice

Bosa will get all his stats when he’s on 76’s side. Done-here-van Smith loafs 4-6 plays a game, hopefully the Bucs move on from him after the season. Don’t give me that stupid Availability trope either, he sucks, who cares that he shows up for the games.

I assume that is a rhetorical question Joe?!
Either way, these guys need to play lights out today. The run-game will play a vital role in who emerges victorious today.

Use a TE on each side to help the tackles…..

The Bucs did seem to give Wirfs a lot of TE help last week, and it worked out pretty well in keeping Brady clean. I would expect more of the same this week.

Donehere Van Smithloafs. Lol, perfect Germanic name for #76.

TBBF, totally agree. This is where the TEs add some heff to the o-line by doubling up on Bosa.

If it were me I’d line up a against smith all day.
He would guarantee himself 3 sacks

    Joe, I agree.

In the old days, teams would run right at good pass rushers to wear them down. Can’t really do that any more.

  11. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

@TBBF, I agree also. Go to “12” pkg with Gronk on one side and OJ on the other. Release whichever TE is opposite of Bosa as a receiver. Since we are missing Godwin, this is a win-win for the Bucs

Hasn’t Wirfs already seen Nick Bosa… OSU Vs. Iowa? Don’t know if he played against Joey..about four years different. And don’t forget this about Wirfs, per Cimini… He ran faster (4.85) than Joey Bosa (4.86), jumped higher (36.5 inches) than Amari Cooper (33), jumped longer (10’1”) than DeAndre Hopkins (9’7”. He is a physical freak. He might be fine.

Run the ball right at him with zone blocking. Lateral movement with a bad ankle is a problem
