“I Thought Byron Did A Good Job Keeping His Patience With The Run Game”

October 22nd, 2020

Gaining interest?

Joe realizes not every Bucs fans buys this, but Bucco Bruce Arians doesn’t call the plays of the Buccaneers’ offense.

After studying various evidence, and hearing from insiders, Joe is confident that offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich really is the guy in charge on game day

Joe wrote several times after the Bucs choked in Chicago that a major factor in the loss was the Bucs giving up on Ronald Jones, who was their greatest weapon in the game. For whatever reason, the Bucs took the ball out of RoJo’s hands.

While the Bucs crushed the Packers last Sunday, it was a weird game in that the Bucs were unsuccessful on their first two drives and were dominated through the first quarter.

Interestingly, without being asked about it specifically, Arians told SiriusXM NFL Radio last night that “I thought Byron did a good job keeping his patience with the run game.”

That line really resonated with Joe after the Bears loss — especially with Rob Gronkowski having his best game against the Packers and Chris Godwin returning from injury.

“That’s what we want to be about,” Leftwich said today, referring to being a pound-the-rock football team.

It will be interesting to see how patient the Bucs stay with the rushing attack going forward. Of course, the X-factor is how Tom Brady feels about it versus his other options.

The “No Risk It. No Biscuit.” slogan is starting to feel like ancient history.

bears game came down to penalties….5 on 1 drive…

BL has this offense clicking….top10 in every major category….best offense we’ve seen in years….

but yet, folks want BL gone at the end of the year….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

    WoW!
Bucs/raiders game moved to afternoon game!

The problem I have with our run game is the predictable playcalling……we run far too much on 1st down….especially in the red zone…..
Teams are ripe to get burnt on 1st down play action…..need more of it. We could actually play action on 1st down quite often and fool defenses.

I like it when teams start respecting our running game.

    So, would Joe run the ball on 2nd and 17?, 1st and 20? , 1st and 30?, 2nd and 12 on your own 14 with 2:40 left?, 1st and 10 on your own 37 with 1:06 left?
    – all circumstances in 2nd half of Bears game.

I suppose you could, but Bucs didn’t lose because they abandoned the run- penalties and bad call and missed TO opportunities were more to blame.

Ditch Licht, move Arians to the front office and promote Bowles to head coach and BL to assistant head coach.

I’m not upset with the run it’s all the runs up the gut on 1st down. Joe you and all us fans know that we’re very predictable on 1st down. Heck we don’t even use Rojo’s speed and try to get him outside. He’s gained over 100yds the last 3 games I LOVE that. However I think with some creativity in the run game he’d be in the 150 category with no problem.
    GO BUCS!

Mainly the soft d they played first quarter. Short passes were moving the chains slowly. Three and outs on offense and boom quarter over. Then the Dean of deans stepped up!!

  9. Doctor Stroud Says:

Just don’t run Shady McCoy on short third downs, please. Thank you!

Teams that can run whenever they want to run win big Trophies

Hmmm, the obvious is starting to come clear I see. Had our offensive coaches ‘risked it’ in the Bears game, we would’ve won. The only ‘risk’ that the Bucs really take is on DEFENSE, blitzing as much as we do.

Certain JBFers keep praising BL for our #8 offense, but not only is this offense stacked with talent, but it’s also benefitted greatly from what the Bucs’ defense has done for them (spelled ’11 turnovers’ that’ve translated into 55 of our 177 points so far).

Bucs have some really tough games coming up; Raiders, Saints, Rams, and Chiefs in particular. And the remaining 6 aren’t the pushovers some seem to think they are (for instance, Falcons are playing better ball now, and so is Carolina). Bucs have the talent IMO to win our division, but the biggest limitation right now IMO is offensive coaching. RELEASE THE HOUNDS !

Wait, I was just told the Bucs throw it more than anyone after I said Leftwich would run it up the gut on every down if he could. Seems like he’s literally saying he’d just run it up the gut on every down if he could. IE, he’s Mike Shula 1999.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

the biggest limitation was bucs beating bucs….packers game proved that….

    no penalties+no TOs=Big Win…

    GO BUCS!!!!!
