“He Straight Up Lied To Us”

Tiki Barber

Remember on March 26, when Bucco Bruce Arians joined Tiki Barber’s CBS Sports Radio show and said Antonio Brown was not a fit for his Tampa Bay locker room?

Barber reacted Monday to the Bucs signing Brown.

“He straight up lied to us,” Barber said with a smile in his voice before playing audio of their winter interaction with co-host Brandon Tierney.

The fun part of the audio was when Tierney pushed Arians and reminded him that he just lost Breshad Perriman in free agency and asked Arians to suppose Brown would play on the cheap to be with Tom Brady. “I just know him and it’s not a fit in our locker room,” Arians replied.

And here he’s Brown, our newest Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Barber loves the move.

“It’s brilliant, man. If A.B. wants to come be the backup for however long until he gets his opportunity, great. [Brown] could have went somewhere else and played and been impactful right away. He was a free agent. … To be honest with you, if I’m A.B. and I’m looking for a championship, it’s the Tampa Bay Buccaneers right now because their defense is playing outstanding.”

Asked who had final say at One Buc Palace on the Brown signing, Barber said, “It was definitely Bruce Arians.”

It cracks me up how some in the media are holding BA to something he said 6 months ago. It’s ok if someone’s opinion changes based on new circumstances.

[WAY too many mischaracterizations in this paragraph if not outright lies of what Joe has written in the past. How many more dozens of times can Joe describe why he gave Dominik the handle “rock star?” — Joe]

I am sure BA is fine with this because, he wants to win and not rely on his 3rd, 4th or 5th WR’s in the post season.

  2. Coburn Says:

You need to add a few more labels onto Joe if you want to keep up with him TB 12

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

No such thing as lying in Football…

And, something that hasn’t been discussed much is that BL played with AB for several years at Pittsburgh…….may be somewhat of a factor.

The bottom line is that this is being reported on all sports media as a very good decision.

    MAGA “MAKE ANTONIO GREAT AGAIN”

  4. Alan Collingwood Says:

I still have a bad feeling about this. I hope I’m wrong

  5. Brion Says:

What r u talking about TampaBay ics fan? Its widely known and talked about that Arians called AB a Prima Donna in the past.
    (And IXnay on the Maganay)

  6. Sesteprenelicus Says:

My suspicion: either drugs or concussions altered this guy’s mind, and maybe now he’s clean/healed/medicated and so it’s a different man, who maybe gets another chance as far as being a good teammate goes. Time will tell for sure.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

TBBF … I agree; there’s no such thing as lying in football. Things change very quickly in the NFL, and what was true 6 months ago may not even be close today. I admit that I’m not very enthusiastic about having Antonio Brown the person on the Bucs, but if Antonio Brown the football player can help this team then I’ll root for him just like I do for every other Buc.

  8. TheBradyBunch Says:

It’s low risk high reward. He is coming on close to the minimum and will be treated as such. Evans and Godwin are and will remain the number 1 and number 2 receivers. AB will be competing with Miller for the number 3 spot and will fill as 1a or 1b of Evans and Godwin are hurt. He is depth at this point. If he works out and is the AB of old the Bucs will have the greatest trio of receivers in the history of the league. If he doesn’t work out the Bucs are still good enough to make it to the SB.

  9. Clw JB Says:

He was not a fit until he was… injury insurance for the stretch run

we all know this is going to have to look much different next year with the cap shrinking – the time is NOW!

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    At Defense:

I understand the trepidation over AB…….but at this relatively late stage for me (late 4th qtr) of my life……I’m all in for the possibility of another SB…..

Been watching other teams sign misfits and winning…..

The talent vs money is there….and for those who exclaim “We don’t need him”….this is the NFL…..HOW DO YOU KNOW!!!

I didn’t think we needed Gronk and now look!!!

If AB helps us win a SB….great….if he helps us get into the playoffs and beyond….great.

I truly believe in BA & Brady….I don’t think they will allow any player to stand in the way.

Look at it this way….if BA has to jettison AB……then that move alone will bring all the players even more together….

We just need to win Sunday.

  11. Steven007 Says:

It’s very simple, great teams do this kind of thing all the time. And I’d like to think we have a great team.

“The wise man can change his mind; the stubborn one, never.”

  13. Bucfanforever Says:

What Arians meant is that AB is going to get his own diva room and won’t have to be in the locker room with the team.

  14. Kyle Says:

Well, I dont put much faith in what tiki barber says. He quit football because he thought he was going to be some morning news personality. Not only did he miss a superbowl ring, he couldn’t keep his stuff in his pants and got fired!!

  15. QBKilla Says:

Well said NJBF. Next Ronde will be complaining that BA wasn’t honest about the severity of injuries.

It is looking like their are, time will tell. They have never put back to back 25 point beatdowns on 2 good teams that I can ever remember. Long season but this one is a blast! GO BUCS!!!!!

  17. unbelievable Says:

Barber had a nice little breakdown of one of our offensive snaps vs. The Raiders on the Bucs YT channel too.

Anyone else think it’s fkn awesome that Ronde still works with the organization so much? One of the greatest Bucs ever (and by all accounts a total class act too).

Get this man in the Hall, Ira!

  18. Darin Says:

    Tampabaybucfan
Of course. Its a good football player. Hence the football people like the move. Its really frowned upon in the psychiatry profession though. Or even people who know anything about behavior. Even if its just say borderline personality disorder he’s still got years before he changes, at best. No chance he makes it 8 weeks, if he plays at all. So after that the so called football people will have different opinions. Because remember its ok to change opinions.

  19. JimbobBucsFan Says:

    You said it all Tampabaybucfan.

The Buccaneers are “all in” for THIS YEAR and are turning over every rock they can find. Anything that can contribute to us getting over the top is fair game (to mix metaphors).

    In BA We Trust.

    Go Bucs!

  20. chris L Says:

i mean i am a sucker for this and if the team wins we will all be rejoicing. there are serious super bowl vibes with this team and in ways unimaginable but joe – be honest – you go to bed thinking super bowl each night now right? i know i do. they go to the super bowl and i am flying into tampa and joining the masses at big storm! i promise you that!

  21. Mark2001 Says:

So I wonder when we will go after Clay Matthews?

  22. Boston Boy Says:

    GO BUCs

  23. Bucsboi239 Says:

JOE I DON’T KNOW IF THIS HAS ANY WEIGHT WITH TAMPA BRASS, BUT THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO ROLL THE DICE THAN A TRADE FOR STEPHON GILMORE WHICH RIGHT NOW IS A SECOND ROUND PICK AND TO SIGN EARL THOMAS TO A ONE YEAR VETERANS MINIMUM!!! LOMBARDI TROPHY FOR SURE!

  24. D1 Says:

    Brady bunch,

How does Godwin stay #2 ?

Do you think it’s a position battle amongst the group as to their respective #1-5 rank?

  25. TheBradyBunch Says:

Absolutely Godwin is #2. He’s a long term piece for this team and AB is just an insurance policy.

  26. Mike C Says:

NE did this kind of thing all the time and they have 6 super bowls…..

  27. Cobraboy Says:

The NFL game-within-the-game is Liars Poker.

Always has been, always will be.

And Licht and Arians play it well.

  28. Cobraboy Says:

@Bucsbo239i: Gilmore’s cap number is massive.

  29. Tackleblockwin Says:

Concerning AB, I agree with Scuttle Bucs opinion on the Bucs signing him.

  30. SOEbuc Says:

Personal problems aside, we got the best WR in the NFL on a one year deal for DEPTH!!!

  31. Buc1987 Says:

All we want to do is win another Super Bowl!

  32. CalBucsFan Says:

DefRule, I’m with you man, I’m happy to see AB join the team between the lines. It’s on him to stay out if the news once he steps off the field.

Welcome AB and Let’s Go Bucs!

  33. D1 Says:

    Brady Bunch,

I believe that I understand the #2 ranking. The problem is that Godwin is used in the slot position which is not the same position as AB plays.

Obviously, receivers can and have been used in various spots but the position Godwin plays is primarily slot. AB can line up in slot but it’s not his position.

Godwin has missed so much time this year that I have to go back to last season to see how specifically He was used in the offense. Godwin was the #1 receiver when the team played a defense that mostly played in a zone scheme. Evans was the 1 if the opponent played man.

Point is Godwin was 1B to Evans 1A. They both were featured as the 1. Which is why I asked about your ranking CG #2. I believe that spot falls automatically to the other side of the field and who ever is lined up is the 2.

Now if AB is going to be used as the slot , then sooner rather than later, He will assume the starter role. He’s just better than CG. I’m guessing it’s not going to happen but, the point is, an open competition at the position will favor AB.
But you don’t think that AB was signed to compete is that accurate?

  34. Bucsfanman Says:

    “MAGA- Make Antonio Great Again!”
    Love it Tampabaybucsfan!
It’s a WIN NOW move. And considering we will be without Godwin for a stretch, it’s a good move.
I hope we’re not whining over being lied to. We are blatantly lied to every time we turn on the TV lately by what are supposed to be far more important people.

  35. Bucsboi239 Says:

@cobraboy; Gilmores overall cap hit is massive but this year he is only guaranteed 2.5 million, and the majority of his overall contract has already been eaten up by New England… The bottom line is we need another corner on the other side of CARLTON DAVIS and Murphy-Bunting, Deen have been good in spurts but the further we get along in the playoff push there are teams with multiple receivers that could make our defense vulnerable to the deep ball…I love our defense but I believe in taking real chances to win it all, especially with the small window we have with BRADY, and this is one worth taking along with EARL THOMAS at the veterans minimum and he really wants to play just no team has signed him!

  36. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

To Tampa with love hope TB treats you as well as he did NE,GO BUCS, SUPERBOWL or bust
