Fournette, McLendon Should Be Active

October 23rd, 2020

Green light.

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians updated the statuses of two players for Sunday (?) when the Bucs play the Raiders in Vegas.

Leonard Fournette should return to the lineup and be active after a week of practice where he had full participation.

“Good to go,” Arians said of Fournette’s now-healed ankle.

“He’s practiced full[y],” Arians said. “He will reassume his role. He’s ready to go.”

Last Sunday night, the Bucs traded for Jets defensive tackle and Jets team captain Steve McLendon. The former starter for Todd Bowles in New York, McLendon is expected to play between “20-30” snaps Sunday, Arians said.

Last weekend, McLendon played for the Jets in Miami and Arians joked how the Jets just left him in South Florida and McLendon grabbed a car and drove straight to Tampa and “had some clothes shipped” so he had something to wear.

“Aw, Steve is a great human being and a heck of a player,” Arians said. “He’s the kind of guy you want to be around.”

Arians doesn’t see McLendon having any problems adjusting to the Bucs as their defensive calls and the setups Bowles employs are the same as he had in New York.

That statement from Fournette regarding him being inactive last Sunday speaks VOLUMES about what type of culture change is taking place at One Buc.

  2. RustyRhinos Says:

I want to see our three RB’s be Jones, Fournette, Vaughn, McCoy has not shown me very much so far. Would rather see Vaughn get those reps.

  3. 813bucboi Says:

    rojo has the hot hand…

gotta feed him and use fournette to spell rojo….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  4. Tampabuscsbro Says:

IMO Vaugh should be getting snaps over McCoy. and Fournette needs to be our bruiser for when we burn clock. Need to keep Rojo fresh.

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

    813- Agreed! What a heckuva one-two punch!
Who’d have thought we’d be talking about Fournette spelling Rojo and not the other way around?!
Fournette is STILL a beast of a back though.
    Good problem to have!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Getting much healthier on offense…..defense (save Vita) has always been healthy.

  7. Mike Says:

Rojo and Fournette are going to do damage!

  8. adam from ny Says:

you lose oj howard…but you gain rojo the beast…

    you lose vita…you gain mclendon…

sometimes you eat the bear…sometimes the bear eats you

  9. TampaTown Says:

You want Fournette healthy in case of an injury to someone else.

  10. Eric Brierton Says:

Let rojo be first and second….fournette third down and goasl line…..on to vegas ….we need to run the ball down thier throats this game thier run defense is not good at all and run it all day…on d of course nobody can run on us and take away waller doubleteam and lets keep the man. coverage on d!! Lets get it!!! Go bucs!!!

  11. james maxwell Says:

Let R.Jones start. By 4th quarter Raiders “D” will be tired. Let Fournette pound it down their throats. Buc’s win.!!

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

Joe, does the TV map come out today or tomorrow? My guide still has NBC Bucs and 4PM FOX has 2020 Toy awards. Thanks.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Fournette is pretty good at catching the ball, that’s where he can contribute. Ideally he’d be the 3rd down back and you could phase out McCoy who seems to have lost a couple of steps. McCoy can still be useful, but Fournette can do more and is a lot more dangerous at this point. If you can trust Fournette to pass block, then ideally he’d be in there on 3rd.

I said all along that if you just went back and watch the last few games of last year again you’d see that Ronnie can be the lead and we don’t have to worry about RB, certainly not in the draft, and I was of course right. But I also thought signing Fournette was a good move from a depth standpoint, and if Fournette gets hot, you give him the ball.

Now think if we used that 3rd rounder on another OT to get them ready for next year instead of spending it on a RB we didn’t need…

Bucfans I agree. Still a little early for me to let my guard down and believe the Bucs have changed lol. I sure hope so tho

  15. Mseg87 Says:

@rodmunch Fournette was still on Jacksonville’s roster when Vaughn was drafted. Still needed a running back in April.

  16. Dbbuc711 Says:

Amazed that Jets allowed McLendan to play when they had a trade in place.
Guess there is dumb and there is Jets-dumb.

  17. Hodad Says:

    McCoy is shot.

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Haven’t heard anyone yet espouse the 2-back set like we used to use back in our Thunder & Lightning days. LOTS of flexibility as I recall. Can you imagine what a defense would be thinking looking at RoJo AND Fournette in there, PLUS Miller to stretch the field, and maybe ME13 or Godwin at WR with Gronk to add a little spice? What do you defend? The run? The short pass? The long ball?

Oh wait, I lost my head. We’re the Bucs. We’re not allowed to do stuff like that. It’s too, what’s the word? Oh ya, unpredictable.

  19. Fernando Diaz Says:

    Rojo first 3 quarteres
    Fournette to ice it

  20. DaBux Says:

And Antonio Brown is visiting the Bucs tomorrow. Holy smokes.

  21. SlyPirate541 Says:

Rojo’s evolution into a feature back has to be the most exciting surprises of the season.

That said, Rojo can’t catch and Fournette can. Putting Fournette in on 3rd downs
makes the Bucs tough to defend. Especially with a 2TE set.
