Cause For Concern?

October 12th, 2020

Warning.

Was this just a fluke, or is this a sign of aging?

We all know park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting Bucs quarterback Tom Brady had a senior moment and didn’t realize he was throwing a low-percentage pass on fourth down, which turned out to be the last gasp for the Bucs in Chicago.

Appearing on “PFT Live” seen weekday mornings on NBC Sports Network, along with the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, the famed Peter King couldn’t believe what he was seeing on the Bucs’ final drive.

Yes, yes, yes. Brady screwed up on fourth down. But it was the rest of the drive that alarmed King, who is conditioned to expect excellence from Brady in those situations.

“He had the young running back, Ke’Shawn Vaughn, about three yards from [the] first down [chains] and he was not covered,” King explained. “On the decisions he made on his three last throws, none of them were any good and none of them were very close, quite honestly, except for the one that clanked off of Gronk’s hands.

“It was just a very, very ugly series for someone who should be used to shining in those final series.”

Brady is known for making good reads and smart reads and surveying the field, especially in crunch time. So was this just an overall awful final drive for Brady or is Father Time in some way catching up with the middle-aged Brady?

Pressure will rattle any QB no matter how young or old.

  2. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

After getting hammered most of the 2nd half by Mack and company, I bet most of us would forget what zip code we live in.

  3. Hodad Says:

Don’t think age is a factor as much as being immobile is. The days of pure pocket passers are over. I will say he didn’t look comfortable, or in command of what was being asked of him. Brady, BL, and BA need to get on the same page. Better be fast, because we’re going to need to score points against the Pack.

  4. Jersey buc Says:

Let’s call it for what it was. That D line had him getting the ball out way earlier then it should have. O line played poorly all night.

  5. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    King is right

When you get older…..Cognitive thinking and reaction times slower.

Though you maybe wiser with wisdom and experience……that means nothing with 2.5 seconds to get the ball off before getting hit or sacked.

    unprepared on a turds-day…

and these freaky fake azz all white color rush unis they wear every dam week is something the players are not comfortable in…

who the hell wears all white color rush uniforms every dam week…

    we do

  7. adam from ny Says:

they just need to rock the pewter pants like half the time they rock the white jerseys and it’s all good…

9 white color rush games is freakin’ absurdity

  8. adam from ny Says:

peter king is just upset because he hasn’t had a decent sized meal in a decade

  9. ModHairKen Says:

Here we go. Against LA, Brady was 25 again. Then after Chicago, grave concerns.

You know, it was the first drive to win with this team, and while missing key players, against a pretty good pass rush.

See guys. Thats what i have been telling you since the beginning

Brady isnt better then jamies. We are worse off
Brady isnt as good looking as jameis
No one has a better bod then jameis
See i twist the facts always to make jameis better. I mean he is better
Just wait …when he moves from third string qb to second string look out cause the starter can always get hurt. And he may start again , And the bucs will pay for the next 50 years cause jameis will live forever in my heart.

    See we are right
    We love jameis.
Our favorite yoga pose is the “downward Jamies”
We hold that pose until are legs give out and bums start hurting

Gotta love how the national pundits always seem to focus in on one guy when a team loses. It appears that it’s Brady’s turn in the barrel for the Chicago game in King’s eyes.

Bucs lost a game they shouldn’t have lost. The TEAM had ELEVEN penalties on the night, and our coaching stunk it up in all 3 phases. Brady had a lousy night throwing deep (2-for-7) with no Godwin or Miller & ME13 banged up (IOW not much speed). BUT … at 1 point in the 1st half he was 11-for-12 short, and at 1 point in the 2nd half he was 9-for-11 short. But towards the end of each half, the short passing game imploded. Kudos to the Bears for upping their pressure on Brady, and boo to our OLine for not doing a better job of protecting him then.

Brady is who he is … immobile AND 43-years-old … and if our OLine doesn’t protect him near-perfectly then we’ll shortly be watching Gabbert or Griffin or maybe even Rosen.

Omg! You mean the one or the smartest QB of all time when it comes to using the clock and let’s face it scoring with seconds left made ONE mistake in 20 years..! You all forget 3-28? Smh! Give the guy a break and he’s not a senior to have a senior moment and fr with his cognitive crap? He’s not 63? The picking at everything this man does is insane. Mahomes lost a game today. Let’s jump on him and say he was a fluke and all done.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Peter King is just upset because Joe’s moniker for Brady continues to grow and may just catch up to his.

  14. The Coroner Says:

    He is not the same.

  15. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

What is cause for concern is this defense that everybody lauds as so great. The Bears should have never scored more than 10 points but because it corners can’t really cover guys too well they get burned by guys fresh off the practice squad. The one thing you rarely see from them are passes defensed. They make tackles after the catch. Every time I turned around the Bears in the last 4 minutes of the game were swatting passes out of the air but not our guys as usual.

Bradys not the problem, Winston and Fitzmagic were tragic against this same defense. Our biggest problem on offense is Donovan Smith but unfortunately we have no good replacement for him available. Play calling sucked in the 2nd half. How do you have RoJo running like a man possessed and then come up with some really poor pass plays? All these people up here who were singing the praise of this team in the off season are getting a good dose of reality now. Contrary to NDOGs personal belief Winston would not be doing better than Brady this year. We were truly paper champions

  16. richbucsfan Says:

Plenty of other causes for concern. No worries about Brady…for goodness sake he’s only 43. Dementia can occur that early but highly unlikely. Vea gone down, other injuries that are keeping the players from 100% performance. Sunday is coming against the Packers. Ok, 3-3 isn’t that bad of a record.

  17. Allbuccedup Says:

    Its a bucs life!

  18. Unc Says:

    Should have kept Jameis.

  19. Ndog Says:

KTB12, just curious what did 28-3 do for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

I remember a lot of things, do you remember the catch?
    Do you remember Namath’s guarantee?
Do you remember Montana to Rice?
    Do you remember the triplets?

Those are all just like 28-3 they have absolutely nothing to do with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

    So what’s your point?

  20. DBS Says:

One thing you can be sure of. Had the Bucs cold cocked the Bears RB and the ball come out the same as it did that play would have never been reviewed. Or they would have said no catch. But in any case the defense did not make a stop there and let them score.

  21. chris L Says:

i am not worried about tom brady. yeah bad play but let’s be honest that is not the reason we lost the game. poor coaching decisions from arians once again. in terms of the nfc playoff race yes the focus is on the division. saints still have a touch schedule too so not too concerned about that. bucs just need to win.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

He’s not in his 80’s or something.

Jeesh….I just turned 50 and I don’t have any senior moments!

  23. jimm Says:

watched las vegas vs kansas city and minnesota vs seattle.

there is cause for concern and football as it should be played.

not sure they expanded playoffs enough to include bucs (as they are playing now)

  24. webster Says:

    @ adam

I have complained to the bucs twitter several times about not having the pewter pants and white jersey combo. Im with you. Who thought it was a good idea to wear all white for 9-10 games this year? Fire them immediately

  25. orlbucfan Says:

Whoever made the calls on the 2 4th downs needed to have their frigging brains examined. My money is on BA. He definitely had a few Methuselah moments!
