Two Predictions And A Sharp Rebuke

Gene Deckerhoff weighs in

A wise comment this morning by Tom Brady’s good friend reminded Joe of how a wildly popular media outlet says it’s not mainstream media when it dominates TV ratings.

That brings Joe to Lavonte David. He doesn’t get the Pro Bowl votes, in part because he’s an inside linebacker, so lots of people say he’s underrated and under the radar.

Today on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Bucs radio icon Gene Deckerhoff called David the “Rodney Dangerfield” of the NFL, referring to the comedian whose act was about getting no respect. And Deckerhoff immediately was smacked down by host Charlie Weis for saying something ridiculous.

“I disagree. Anyone who’s anyone knows who [David] is,” said Weis, Brady’s former offensive coordinator. “That’s because you’re Tampa. It has nothing to do with how good he is.”

Weis simply was not buying that David is underrated. Bravo, Mr. Weis!

The ultimate homer, Deckerhoff was pressed to name a Bucs weakness or question mark and named the long snapper position, before noting that he will not find negatives with this year’s Bucs. But Deckerhoff did admit to the 2020 X-factor for Tampa Bay is, “How good is the NFC South?”

Deckerhoff noted that even Teddy Bridgewater has experience and success against this Bucs defense, and he said the competitiveness of the NFC South cuts the margin for error in the season. “Better take care of your knittin’,” Deckerhoff added with his classic style.

Weis and Deckerhoff both pick the Bucs to win the NFC South.

On a sad note, Deckerhoff said he will not travel to Sunday’s Bucs game and will call the games from a control room television feed at Raymond James Stadium.

Gene is in no age/condition to be traveling during a pandemic. That said, from we work to how we order a pizza, to how we get media to how we go the doctor and movies, is probably changed forever. Not all for bad, either. But get this vaccine out!

Deckerhoff and Jesse Ventura were quite the combo back in the day. As a kid I really enjoyed Ventura’s act on the radio, talking about how we were getting screwed over and someone needs to take a chair to the refs. Deckerhoff meanwhile has gone on to easily have a HOF career. When the NFL is going full fruit and pushing all this SJW garbage during the games, I won’t care since I’ll have it muted and I’ll be listening to the radio.

    Buford – But I’m scared… hold me.
