Sackathon

September 27th, 2020

Sacking the QB.

Yes, Joe will have more shortly about a certain sackmeister. But Joe hopes the following tides readers over.

Remember when the Bucs couldn’t buy a friggin’ sack to save the franchise? Well, for the time being, those days are over.

The Bucs dropped former Gators and current Broncos quarterbacks Jeff Driskel and Brett Rypien six times today — six! And that is just the way the Bucs do things.

The Bucs have transformed their defense from a lame, powderpuff defense into one that makes opposing quarterbacks lie awake the night before a game.

Dating back to last season, the Bucs have racked up at least five or more sacks in four of their last five games.

During the Lost Decade, Joe had just about given up any hope in seeing the Bucs slam quarterbacks to the ground. That has changed, in part, thanks to defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

Maybe ‘ol Sapp will understand this is a different form of defense than his, and the DTs don’t have to be monster pass rushers (his critiques of Vita and Suh).

And its unreal that White doesnt have a sack yet. But he is causing havoc as a blitzer. Winfield is putting together one of the best rookie seasons i have ever seen. Lets see if he can keep it up.

And underrated will be Vea. He played a great game today!!

Denver was only able to rush for 42 yards…..again, we stuffed the run…..forcing the pass….but this time we put pressure….2 ints & a safety…..

As noted above, forced two turnovers vs. none for the Bucs.
Special teams not only blocked a punt, but recovered the ball to give the offense a short field for a change.
Had more penalties, but the call on Gholston seemed pretty bad.
End result: the game NEVER seemed in doubt, regardless of some concerns.

Complain if you want to, but for me, things are looking up!

Definitely. They didn’t say why it was a personal foul, but it was not a late hit, and there’s no way he was trying to land heavy, because all of his momentum was horizontal. Bad call all the way around.

Love the aggressive style! Shelve left the prevent defense.

  8. Buczilla Says:

I don’t see us being able to hold on to Bowles for much longer. Good problem to have for sure though.

  9. SOEbuc Says:

Suh has been playing some great ball. He didn’t get a sack today but has definitely been in the QBs face this year.

“Going to have to sign Bowles “head coach in waiting” now

Teams going to fight for him this offseason”

I suspect the dealio is Bowles stays with the Bucs along with Arains, and takes over at HC when Arians retires.

His J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets experience showed him the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence…
