Reports: Bucs Will Sign Fournette

September 2nd, 2020

Welcome.

Finally, the Bucs have a running attack.

Joe has been beating the drum almost daily, week after week, year after year for Joe doesn’t know how many years that the Bucs needed a running attack.

And Joe’s prayers have finally been heard. The Bucs tonight are signing free agent running back Leonard Fournette. Two of those reports come from Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter of NFL Network and BSPN, respectively.

Finally, finally, finally the Bucs have a running attack and a proven stud running back.

Joe can hear the angels singing.

  1. Lazy Animations (week) Says:

    This offense will be unstoppable

  2. JustBucNwin Says:

    How? Using a credit card?

  3. Sarasota Garey Says:

    The Brady effect.

  4. Bangkok Buc Says:

Wow. RB stable sure isn’t a weak spot now!!!

  5. Bobby Says:

    Good pickup.

  6. Leighroy Says:

Joes, earlier today you quoted Patrick Walker citing overthecap that the Bucs had 2.24 million available. OTC may not be perfect, but inquiring minds would be verrrrrry curious how this math shakes out on the incentives!

  7. David Says:

Holy crap. I didn’t think there was any chance of this because I didn’t think they could afford it.
Fournette and McCoy Should complement each other like WD40!!

Also tells me Ronald Jones is not for long
and they weren’t willing to bet this “all in season” on the rookie

  8. TheBradyBunch Says:

Joe I hope you had some tissues near you when you saw this! 😮

  9. BUC CHEEKS Says:

    LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Steven007 Says:

How can they do it? Create a financing. Every good team does it. Saints have been doing it for years. I trust they’re confident they can make it work out, obviously.

  11. Bayboy55 Says:

Winfield = good pick rd 2, Jason celebrating

  12. Ndog Says:

Why the need to improve the entire team if the QB was the only reason we lost last year?

That’s what the liar has been telling us all off season!!!

We added the greatest TE of all time.
We added a potential HOF 3rd down back.
We have added an elite RB.
We have added a 1st round RT.

All things to help the offense, but again I thought the only problem was the QB??

Oh yeah we also downgraded at QB.

  13. Steven007 Says:

    *creative financing

  14. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

What a crazy offseason. For those who have a bad opinion of Licht might want to reconsider.

  15. Daddylonglegs Says:

Not a fan of the signing, personally. I honestly thought Rojo was gonna have a break out year. Not to mention the Shady signing and 2 of this year’s draft picks invested in RB’s.

  16. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete Says:

    OMG. I said:

    ’19-0. Greatest Team Ever Assembled’

    Before the Fournette signing.

FYI, I still see Rojo as RB1, Fournette as RB2, and Shady McCoy/Keyshawn Vaughn as 3rd-down backs and RB3/RB4…

    OMG, We are STACKED.

  17. Dano Says:

Didn’t think they’d be able to afford him but Licht made it happen. The Tom Brady effect is real guys!

  18. Steven007 Says:

Lap dog, downgraded in your dreams. And I mean that literally.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

Good teams sign guys and make the cap do whatever they want.
Bad teams with coaches who tell the GM what to do whine and BS about cap hell as an excuse for losing (after cutting Warren Sapp and John Lynch).

  20. David Says:

    LeighRoy

It looks like it’s going to cost them 2 million against the cap

Him and McCoy can also block and catch so I would not be surprised if a RB Ogunbowale? and a TE Auclair? don’t last.

  21. BridleOaks Buc Says:

Joe…Can you compare this signing vs when the Patsies signed Lagarette Blount?

  22. WillieG Says:

I’ve got a hunch that the Bucs want to win.

  23. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Where is man crush Jameis El Realisto?

  24. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete Says:

Rojo WILL have a breakout year still and be one of the best backs in the NFL.

  25. Tnoles Says:

Yes finally we got a running back! Now I can sleep easy knowing we will get more than 3.9 a carry. Fournette is a pretty physical back so I like the pick up

  26. Old Sombrero Says:

I hope this isn’t another Alvin Harper. I’m a displaced Bucs fan in Jax. He’s had issues up here from a locker room standpoint and he’s been dinged up and there’s been some questions about his willingness to play through adversity. But then again some good players up here have wanted out and got out…Ramsey and Ngokeue (so?) to name a few. We’ll see. RoJo is done if he comes in and produces.

  27. ClodHopper Says:

    Holy cow!

  28. Tnoles Says:

Dare will last he has to much special teams value and these other two backs Shady and Fournette don’t play special teams. Dare will stay on IMO

  29. Rod Munch Says:

Fournette is a good receiving back – to me that’s where he’d have the biggest value. I’m not really sure he’s going to take over the lead from Rojo, but as a 3rd down guy he could do wonders if he can block (I’ve never heard anyone talk about his blocking, so no idea what he brings there, but he’s huge).

I heard the Bucs have no interest in releasing McCoy, but I don’t know where he fits once Fournette is up to speed. 3rd down back is what McCoy brings to the table, but who knows, if McCoy looks good – then why would you cut him? Vaughn seems to be the odd man out, not that he’ll get cut, but likely will be inactive. All you complaining and calling Rojo a bust will be saying the same thing about Vaughn after week 2 (normally you dopes would be saying it after preseason week 2).

  30. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

    Lavonte David Thanks!!!!!!!!

  31. Orlando Kevin Says:

This is going to be awesome to watch…. lets goooooo!!

  32. Kobe Faker Says:

“Amazing Jason Gump did something right and forward thinking

*** Next year if we dont sign and lose Fournette, don’t we get high draft compensation for the former 1st round?”

    Kobe Faker

  33. David Says:

    NDOG
Do you try to be ignorant or you just don’t know football?
    The whole statement is ridiculous.

JW had five years and his turnovers kept getting worse. He never improved with turnovers. He’s a mental midget. Panics in the pocket and throws about five balls a game that can be picked off.
Maybe he’ll be good in another two or three years, maybe this is a wake up call he needed, we shall see. I hope it is, I like him, but sticking around here in Tampa, it wasn’t happening.
They have 10 times the quarterback now for a couple years.

Everyone knew they needed help at running back and knew they needed another lineman.
No one ever said they didn’t.
On top of that it’s called going all in. It’s called maxing out the cap and trying to make a run for the Super Bowl for the next 1 to 2 years.
Getting the greatest quarterback of all time and not doing anything else to help improve is your idea of good management, OK
Apparently that is a problem for you.
Whatever. Sick of ignorant uneducated so-called Buc fans on this website

  34. Tbbucs3 Says:

This sounds like a good pickup on paper at least. I know he’ was somewhat a disgruntled player in Jax but the Brady effect will change that mindset real quick.

The question is is he even still good? He’s had 1 standout season a cpl year back but I don’t ever watch Jacksonville games so I haven’t seen him on tape.

  35. Dapostman Says:

This is Bruce Arians swan song. Adding Brady, Gronk, Shady, Fournette and drafting Wirfs in the first round.

I was saying anything short of the NFC championship game would be a disappointment. Now anything short of the Super Bowl will be a disappointment. Hopefully Brady can make it through the Florida Heat.

  36. Leighroy Says:

NDog, I’ll bite on your lunacy….

It’s bc they’re ALL-IN in the GOAT. No fool goes all in on a 2-7 hand like JW3. See a flop? Sure but you fold when you’ve gone bust. When the next hand deals you aces, you don’t cry about why you didn’t shove the hand before.

    Also!
Who exactly “lied” when they said the ONLY problem was qb?
That TE only came bc of that “downgrade” to a 6-ringed GOAT.
The Bucs have a 1st round pick (almost) every year.

    Dispense with your shenanigans

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Old Sombrero – Alvin Harper was a #2 deep ball receiver – and the Bucs made him a huge money #1 WR… Not really a comparison to a guy getting $2m for one year.

  38. Brandon Says:

Brady always had a balanced RB like Rojo, a pass catcher like McCoy, and a bruiser like Fournette in New England. With Belichek calling the shots there was no way to plan for all three of them.

  39. Bucsfan951 Says:

I never thought that this would happen. Boy was I wrong.

But I’m man enough to admit when I am wrong.

Of course, the female dog isn’t liking this. That means it’s harder for his saints to win the division.

  40. David Says:

    Fournette/McCoy =
    The new WD40

The rookie will be groomed and Ronald Jones apparently is going to be weeded out.

There’s no way they believed in ROJO with this move. Sorry to the ROJO lovers out there, but the guy has horrendous vision and is not good at receiving and can’t block.
I thought they’d give him a shot this year but apparently going all in with Brady they decided not to chance it

  41. Elita Vita Says:

I’m sure Brady has already given his opinion of the QB stable. They would not have signed Fournette if it didn’t come with Brady’s blessing. So now….. which RBs are gonna stay, and which are going to go?

  42. Oneilbucs Says:

Man this is proof that everything I was saying about how Bruce Arians never wanted Jamies from the jump . Last year Bruce Arians said he didn’t value the runningback but now he brought in 4 runningbacks. Bruce Arians is not coming back next year . Now I love the pick but now we don’t have to worry about drafting a runningback . Now next year we have to go quarterback first round . But again let’s stick together this year and we can talk about the team in the off season . Go bucs . ..

  43. The Coroner Says:

Talked to Rhonde Barber at airport after Bucs signed Brad Johnson.
    He said, “No excuses”.

    Yep. No excuses.

  44. JimmyJack Says:

Wow what a move! Unreal luck for the Bucs to get an exact position of need fall right into their laps. I’m not so sure this is an all-in move so much as it is a no brainer. Fournette is a complete all purpose back. You know Brady loves to find RBs good matchups in the passing game and Fournette can catch.

And dont even worry a bit about the lockeroom. If this guy is a problem he will be spun out swiftly……But thatsdoubful to be a problem. He’s walking into a team with high standards. He gonna wanna make this work. And probably the best part is he’s on a one year deal. He is gonna wanna be paid next year. We gonna get Fournette giving 110%!!

    Great move

    GO BUCS!!!

  45. David Says:

As for him being disgruntled in Jacksonville, there have been too many really good players disgruntled in Jacksonville the last couple years for me to worry about that. Sounds like an organizational problem.

Besides, when you have someone like Brady, you can bring in someone a little disgruntled, if he is, and they tend to fall in line.

  46. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Even if he turns out to be somewhat of a disappointment it was still worth it to sign him……we gave up no draft pick(s)……and are not breaking the bank on his salary…..

I suspect he’ll be worth it.

  47. Hugh Janis Says:

    YESSSSSS!!!!!!!

  48. D-Rome Says:

    This was the right move.

    RoJo is a bust.

  49. Aceofaerospace Says:

    No excuses. None.

  50. Buczilla Says:

Hell yes! Now with two proven running backs and 3 more with potential on the roster, we are good to go.

  51. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    WOW WHAT A PICKUP

The jaymiss nutt huggers need to go to saints websites. It’s never his fault. Y’all are like battered spouses “no no it’s not him it’s me”

  52. Sarasota Garey Says:

I want less good players, said no coach ever.

  53. Gettinthebucs Says:

The next ira pod is going to be a classic.

  54. Tbbucs3 Says:

It is Truely Super Bowl of bust this year. The offense is going to be loaded the main question will be all about the defense.

It appears ppl are not worried about the defense but they have yet to put together a full season of good football in years. I am not totally concerned but am not confident in the pass defense either.

  55. unbelievable Says:

    Wowzas.

    Alright LFG!

  56. NDog is an idiot Says:

Npuppy has to be the biggest idiot God ever created!! Hands down!!

  57. Taylor Says:

Injured, arrested, benched for being fat, fighting the Bills, only drafted in 17’…hopefully Brady and Bucco can set him straight

  58. SteelStudBuc Says:

    Npuppy u crazy

  59. Elita Vita Says:

Question: How long will it take Fournette to get up to snuff with the playbook? Who will play instead as he learns it? Inquiring minds want to know?

  60. ncbucsfan Says:

Rojo and Fournette on early downs and 3rd and short. McCoy and Vaughn/Dare on obvious passing downs. Depth to combat potential Covid setbacks. LFG!!!

  61. Rod Munch Says:

Fournette is not a bruiser, he’s a stop and go runner who takes a min to get up to speed. He’s not a good fit at the goal line I don’t think, but if they can get him to just run straight ahead without hesitating, then fantastic — but you’d think Jacksonville would have tried that as well. Where he’s a great fit for the Bucs is catching the ball – he had 76 receptions last year and that’s where Rojo is at his worst. Overall it’s a great signing considering the price – and there’s very little risk.

  62. Joeypoppems Says:

Still doesnt make any sense to me, but hopefully it works out for the best. Guess now the only question is who gets cut? Dare, Fournette, and Rojo are locks to make the team. Im guessing Vaughn is the odd man out which is a shame to waste a 3rd round pick, but McCoy is probably the best 3rd down option on the team still.

I know its all in on 2020, but if Vaughn gets cut it will be interesting to see what happens when Rojo is the only RB under contract next year.

  63. Rod Munch Says:

Jesus Christ, the anti-Winston morons still ranting and raving about Winston? Wow, what idiots. Talk about your psycho ex’s who can’t move along with their life.

  64. JimmyJack Says:

Tbbucs3…..Yep we only gotta worry about pass defense right now. I got2 word for you….Trade deadline…….I’m totally fine hearing into the season with Dean/Davis on the perimeters. If they cant hack it we’ll know by the deadline and I say you make a move.

The only other position that’s a bit worrisome is Edge. We have little for depth. Wondering if maybe we pick up somebody decent after cuts. Thatshow we found Nassib

  65. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Fournette is going to be BAs closer. Brady throw 2-3 tds & then Fournette destroy teams in 4th quarter. This is the best rb bucs have had in history up there with caddy & ricky bell

  66. Joeypoppems Says:

And stop talking about Fournette’s catches. He isnt a weapon in the passing game. He was the safety valve for a rookie QB behind a bad OL. When Fournette was targeted it was because something broke down, not by design. McCoy and Dare are still the best pass catching options out of the backfield.

Fournette probably just steps in amd takes Barber’s role from last season and its a full blown RBBC again.

  67. BUC CHEEKS Says:

JimmyJack just nailed it!!! No brainer and a contract year. Pffff LOVE IT
    LETS GOOOOOO

  68. Bill Says:

Dont really like this because of his attitude in Jax, but we will see. Oh btw ndog he is not here anymore for good reasons. Quit whining or get lost.

  69. Tampabuscsbro Says:

All the people with concerns about jacksonville. It was Jacksonville. The team was so horrendous the NFLPA came out and said that 1/5 of all grievances are against the Jaguars how would you not have locker room issues on that team.

  70. JimmyJack Says:

Elite Vita…..Over the years I’ve seen tons of vet RBs step right into a team and take right over as a bell cow. It’s one of the easiest positions to make a team switch……Without knowing I guess it’s easier just cause the QB can te you your exact responsibility each play in the huddle.

Expect Fournette to be on the field on our first play from scrimmage and stay on the field.

  71. Robert James Says:

@leighroy, you are right. You don’t make certain moves to get to wild card weekend. With TB, these are moves you make to win a super bowl

  72. Terry O'Hora Says:

Sure are a bunch of trumpettes (i.e., s**t for brains) on this blog. Fournette just won the Super Bowl for the Bucs – they were going, but now they just won….

  73. Ndog Says:

I love that you people are happy about this signing but don’t see how this is a clear admission that Jameis got screwed the entire time he was here and you say I’m uneducated, ha.

So EVERYTHING that I have been saying they are proving with their actions.

I said running game sucked, then all they do go out and get 4 RUNNING BACKS THIS OFF-SEASON.

I said they had a poor pass protection, then all they do is draft a RT in the the first round.

I said the kicker sucked so they went out and got 2 kickers!

I been complaining about the defense for years and they have spent tons of draft picks in the past two years and a ton of money on that side of the ball.

So if you expected Jameis to win with that dereck then why can’t Brady?

Why does he need everything yet Jameis got jack?

We all know the answer and it is this year or bust then after this it is going to be a ship sunk at sea and it is exactly what all of you deserve.

And you say I’m uneducated? SMH at how brainwashed you people are.

  74. Rod Munch Says:

“Joeypoppems Says: Fournette probably just steps in amd takes Barber’s role from last season and its a full blown RBBC again.”

Yeah, that’s basically the scenario. Nothing wrong with that as Rojo was quite good by the end of last year — so long as Fournette is better than Barber, the team should be better (and there’s no way Fournette isn’t a lot better than Barber).

Also, as stated above, Fournette can catch the ball (Barber could also, but not at the same level). Once Fournette knows the scheme and they trust him to pass block, I assume he’ll get a lot of reps there as well – which might be for the best since it might help keep McCoy healthy, and if can still play, that’s a nice bonus. Also if McCoy can’t still play, if he has lost 2 steps, then you cut him once Fournette is up to speed.

Bad news for Dare, I think he’s the odd man out, and I for one won’t really miss him. Sorry he won’t get that NFL paycheck, he seems like a decent guy, but on the field, he wasn’t any good.

  75. Bucsfan951 Says:

God, this NPUPPY MELTDOWN that’s happening in front of us is just great!

THANK GOD THE CANCER IS GONE AND WE CAN FINALLY BREATHE AGAIN!!!

  76. Elita Vita Says:

Hey thank you Jimmy Jack for your response. Much appreciated. Kinda nice to have an RB who is only 25, an overall #4 pick in the NFL draft with experience to actually play for the buccaneers!

  77. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive line was ranked 26th last year, meaning they sucked. Wirfs is going to blow huge holes for Fournette!

  78. Jerry Jones Says:

Ndog, you just proved you’re the dumbest motherfu$#er in the room.

Just stay in JW’s jock strap where you belong.

  79. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog your just being petty and as usual completely irrational.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that last year was about installing new systems and evaluating the team.

Dont act like youare the only one saying we need a running game. That’s old old old news guy.

They evaluated the team last year and decided they needed RB upgrade. Along with secondary and OL……And they also decided they needed a QB upgrade. Duh.

Your so dumb sometimes it hurts bro.

  80. Old Sombrero Says:

Rod Munch – point re Harper was that we were all excited about what he would bring and we all got duped. I remember Brantley and Dumeg were geeked about him and had Dallas’ beat call in for an interview and the guy laughed at us and them for thinking we got a steal. I hope I’m wrong. Doesn’t hurt to test drive it.

  81. Cannon Says:

    Arians: we need free agents

    Licht: which ones?

    Arians: all of them…

  82. Tampabuscsbro Says:

God, this NPUPPY MELTDOWN that’s happening in front of us is just great!

THANK GOD THE CANCER IS GONE AND WE CAN FINALLY BREATHE AGAIN!!!

  83. JimmyJack Says:

Dare still needs to make the team. I love that dude plus he’s better then RoJo. I say hide Ronald on practice team.

  84. Bucy Says:

You can tell that BA took the reigns out of Jason Gumps hands. Coach of the year candidate, think about it almost every decision JL has made has been reversed. Hargreaves super bust, JW gone, Matt Gay soon to also be a late round failure. Today is great day to be a Bucs fan.

  85. Rod Munch Says:

Old Sombrero – Harper was a top FA signing… Fournette got cut by what is supposed to be the worst team in football. Anyone who thinks this is a major signing doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I think he’s a good signing, and he’s way better than Dare, who I assume is cut to make room for him – and that’s what you compare him against. I still fully expect Rojo to still be the lead back, and for Fournette to be last year’s Barber, and for McCoy to be last year’s Dare – which are both upgrades. There’s basically no downside and the upside is you get a guy who can catch the ball, and could be the lead back if needed and he’s not going to hurt you.

  86. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

JimmyJack says “Dare still needs to make the team. I love that dude plus he’s better then RoJo. I say hide Ronald on practice team.”

I just can’t see Dare making the roster. Vaughn being a third round pick is guaranteed a spot as the fourth and last RB slot. I am sure someone will pick Dare up after the cut. If for some reason he is overlooked, he’ll make the practice squad. Hope this is the case!

  87. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Dare needs to be on the team, he’s better than Rojo (not to mention Fournette will be the day 1, snap 1 starter for the year)? LOL! You’ve said many many stupid things around here, but that could be one of the stupidest things yet. Then again you’re a guy who thought Ryan Smith was a quality NFL starting CB — in year 4 of his awful career — and you said Chris Conte was a good starting S.

You really have zero talent for scouting NFL players, and saying Dare is a must keep player, that could be one of the dumbest things you’ve ever said. Ever. For you, that’s a high bar, so congrats if that is what you were going for.

  88. Elita Vita Says:

Bucs will probably be picking towards the very end of the draft next year. Prime position to get an elite RB (as the Chiefs did this year grabbing Helaire). It will be interesting how this will all shake down in the months to come…
    Go Bucs!!!

  89. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Fournette is top pass catcher for a RB and is a killer in the fourth quarter.

  90. Ndog Says:

    Meltdown?

So another one year deal and shoving the future to the side.

    JPP 1 year deal
    SUH 1 year deal
    Shaq 1 year deal
    Gronk 1 year deal
    Mccoy 1 year deal
    Smith 1 year left
    Godwin needs to be resigned

And the CAP IS GOING DOWN! It’s SuperBowl win or BUST cause after this year this team is getting BLOWN UP!!!!

    Petty?

So the greatest QB of ALL-TIME gets help but a first round overall draft pick gets non of this IN 5 YEARS! That’s not petty that’s a ridiculously bad organization.

  91. El Buco Realisto Says:

So much for all the be that coaching was the issue!!!!!!!!!! The “real” fans told the sheep and so-called fans years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now ole stale biscuit has desperately bought the exact roster he wants!!!!!!!! No excuses!!!!!!!!!!

And the “real” fans do not care of half the team is on IR!!!!!!!!! No excuses for bringing in injury prone and/old players!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best kick this season, will be the day after the season when ole stale biscuit and the lachey gm will be KICKED to the curb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will take years to fix the damage those two desperate clowns have done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  92. Rod Munch Says:

Ndog – Could you do the world a favor and get the plague, then cure it by drinking some Draino. That would be great.

    Thank you and God bless.

  93. Jerry Jones Says:

Vaughn, isn’t garunteed anything. Dare was a captain on our team last year and is proven. Vaughn has been struggling per every source reporting on the Bucs.

  94. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch. I dont think RoJo is going to be the lead back over Fournette. It’s a simple equation. Fournette is better then RoJo. Therefore Fournette gets the snaps, case closed.

Perhaps they might split the Carrie’s and let the better man rise up. If that’s the case all of my money is on Fournette.

Ans aside from just being the better runner Fournette can do everything else better then Ronald. Like catching….and I’m guessing blocking.

  95. alaskabuc Says:

I am salivating at the thought of the crazy plays BA can scheme out of 22 formation. The thought of Gronk and OJ with Fournette and Shady in the backfield is too much. Go Bucs!

  96. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Hell Yeah!!!!

Now we’ve got our version of power & lighting.
Cheers to the Front Office, BA, and Tom for making this Happen.

  97. Wesley Says:

Good grief this just isn’t fair to other teams at this point.

  98. Elita Vita Says:

If we knew (which we couldn’t have) that we were to sign 2 quality running backs in free agency we could have used that 3rd round pick for our future QB.

  99. Ndog Says:

Plus did someone just say put ROJO on the Practice Squad?!?!?!

#1 he’s not eligible which if you know anything about the NFL you know that
#2 even if he was eligible do you really think a 2nd round RB with as much talent he has displayed would not get picked up in an instant?

And you people say I lack football knowledge?!?!?

    Hahahahahahaha

  100. Ndog Says:

    Classy Rod.

  101. JimmyJack Says:

Well I will admitt I was going for some shock value saying Dare is better then Ronald. I just like Dare and would like to see him stay but he looks to be the odd man out at this point.

  102. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Jerry Jones says “Vaughn, isn’t garunteed anything. Dare was a captain on our team last year and is proven. Vaughn has been struggling per every source reporting on the Bucs.”

No way the Bucs release Vaughn. He gets a rookie pass being a third round pick – even if it is only to save face.

Fournette and McCoy are two proven pass catchers. This is Dare specialty. He is now expendable as a 3rd down RB. Sure the Bucs would love to keep him, but would have to delegate him to the practice squad until someone gets injured.

  103. El Buco Realisto Says:

How long will it take for the sheep to “realize” that it never works slapping a so called super team together!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  104. JimmyJack Says:

Hey man I said put RoJo on practice team but was was just trying to ruffle some feathers.

If not knowing about practice teams rules means I know nothing so be it. I admitt I dont have a clue about practice team rules. And I’m likely never to ever care enough to study them

  105. SB Says:

    Ndog……….run!
There is too much going inside you right now!

  106. 541BucsFan Says:

Let’s all stop worrying about the Bucs cap. Turns out they have mathletes that manage that stuff.

  107. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – You do realize that Fournette was cut, right? He passed through waivers, every single team could have grabbed if they wanted to — and they didn’t, you realize that, right? I like the signing, a lot, but he’s not coming in to be a 3rd down 1500 yard back. If I’m wrong on that, then fantastic, I’ll take my beating and be happy to do so.

As for Fournette being better than Rojo – perhaps, but there’s not much evidence of that at this point. Fournette is a dancer at the LOS, that’s why he was cut, he drove the team mad by not just putting his head down and plowing ahead. Rojo was also a dancer, in year 1, then improved dramatically by the end of last year. Fournette can catch the ball, and that’s where I think he can make a big difference, and that’s also where Dare gets cut.

Rojo was really good at the end of last season – and that’s a good thing. Can’t have too many good players, and I think Rojo is good, and I think Fournette is good.

But Dare is a bad player, not an NFL player, and I’m guessing — assuming they do keep McCoy — that Dare is out. But not to worry, because Dare will be available at any time since no one else is signing him to their roster.

  108. JimmyJack Says:

Realisto….Super Team??? The world are you talking about? We picked up 1 player in FA. 1 trade and got one guy off of cuts…….If 3 players constitutes super teaming then I guess we guilty every year.

  109. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

After researching, Dare is not eligible for the practice squad. He has already served two years as an active player.

  110. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Fair enough, if you actually thought Dare was unreplaceable I was going to write you off as being as big of a no nothing as Ndog.

I just don’t think Dare is very good, he doesn’t excel at anything, I wouldn’t even say he’s average at anything, he didn’t make any plays last year — he seems like a nice guy and all, but I don’t see how he helps the team.

We will see how the odd man out is, but I don’t see how it’s not Dare. They’re not going to cut Vaughn and apparently they said they were keeping McCoy already (that’s what I read anyways). If that is the case, then Dare has to be the odd man out. But I’m also guessing McCoy will be injured by week 6, so Dare will likely be back on the team in any case.

  111. ModHairKen Says:

Fournette will be a Saint. In the locker room.

  112. Warthog Says:

lol imagine if the bucs could commit to this whole “do-what-it-takes-to-win” thing each and every year?

  113. Jerry Jones Says:

When did I ever say Vaughn was getting cut? Now you have to lie to try and prove a point? That’s sad.

Vaughn has the best chance of being moved to the practice squad, not Dare. Dare has gotten praise from the coaches. Anytime Vaughns name comes up they compare him to Rojos learning curve and say he’s still learning, thats not a recipe for starting, that’s called welcome to the practice squad son, and ONLY because you’re a 3rd round pick. Logan was even having a better camp than Vaughn until he got hurt.

  114. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch…..I’m not reading too much into Jax cutting him. Yes he passed through waivers and as I understand it that’s a money issue. We saved money by letting him pass waivers…..I dont know much about waivers so maybe I’m wrong.

Alls I know is Fournette is a proven 3 down back in this league. RoJo just isnt. That fact alone gives Fournette a leg up.

Let’s just see what happens….If the team is as high on RoJo as you are they will likely split carries for a bit and let the better player win the role……Alls I’m saying is my money’s on Fournette.

And yeah Dare is gone I agree. I get it. Just having some fun getting yall into a tizzy.

  115. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Jerry Jones says, “Vaughn has the best chance of being moved to the practice squad, not Dare.”

Forgive me if I am wrong, but a player needs to be cut for 24 hours before he can be moved to the practice squad.

  116. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Rod Munch

Yes he can catch. He didnt do anything with it tho. He was inefficeint as a receiver. He doesnt run routes. He wasnt a designed pass catcher. Rojo was a better pass catcher than Fournette last year, he just had less volume.

Volume doesnt equal skill. McCoy and Dare will still be the best 3rd down options in the backfield.

And Dare is a lock to make the team. He is the special teams captain and the only RB that plays ST. They arent going to cut him a week before the season. The odd man out is Vaughn. Maybe they choose to carry 5 RBs, but I doubt it. Maybe Vaughn lands on the practice squad if nobody claims him.

  117. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

If he can stay healthy. Ohhhhhhh weeeeeeee!!!

  118. JimmyJack Says:

But I do think Dare is a good pass catcher and I like him as a bruiser. Just a hard worker. I like guys like that. But he offers little to the team being a pass catcher with McCoy and Fournette here now.

  119. Alanbucsfan Says:

Looks like Fournette will take Barber’s role from last year and split time with ROJO for now and which may evolve over season. Vaughn or Dare seem to be headed for practice squad unless they make special teams.
Quite an upgrade, hope it works!

  120. JimmyJack Says:

Dont see how either Vaughn or Dare make the 53. I’m pretty sure you keep 4 RBs typically…..Unless they are cutting McCoy I dont see any space.

I see Vaugn ending up on practice team. Dare might have to hit free agency

  121. 407Buc Says:

So Vandy 3rd round pick was horrible pick. Let’s not overlook that!

  122. Oneilbucs Says:

This Bruce Arians last year we have to many guys on one year deals . I can’t wait to get this year over and now I can watch me some football on the way to 2021 . Next year will be the rebuilding of the offense and I think the Georgia quarterback has just opted out to get ready for the combine .

  123. Bobbo Says:

Even besides Brady – Lavonte David and Mike Evans are Bona Fide captains in their own rights. Locker room will be fine

  124. Stanglassman Says:

Ogunbowale’s special teams prowess may have his spot more secure than McCoy or Vaughn. The real question now that Fournette is in the fold: Will the Bucs make the cheaper cut and let go of the veteran in McCoy, or will they punt on a third-round pick before he even plays a down in an NFL game? ROJO is still the starter with Fournette as 3rd down back and clean up when the Bucs are leading in the 2nd half. Rookie Ray Calais will land on the practice squad.

  125. Clean House Says:

Nice signing should be fun!! Loved him in college.
Would have been nice to see JW with all these other new tools. Maybe a determination to even have a run game would have been nice.
I’m sure it will be great with TB12-
Hope this new kicker is good.

  126. Jerry Says:

It’s going to be a great team. Too bad no one will ever be in the stands to see it.

  127. firethecannons Says:

this worked out! Remember back at draft day we were thinking that Licht was going to trade OJ for Fournette. And here we are–this is a much sweeter deal.

  128. #1bucfan Says:

Talented running back no doubt. I sure hope he doesn’t turn out like desean Jackson and be a cancer In the locker room

  129. gp Says:

    Well Joe,
You’re going to have to re-post that flash poll regarding win totals this year.
With the activity on this story, I think you may get different results!
    I was a 13+ voter BTW
Ever the optimist, Why not an undefeated season capped by a win at home?

  130. Cobraboy Says:

With all the upgrade in “starter” talent, who is gonna play special teams?

  131. Robert James Says:

@ndog..you know who else got a one year deal. Jameis.
Guess what … Leonard , tb and gronk picked us bc of BA then tb

  132. gotbbucs Says:

Fournette and Ronald Jones are very similar runners. They’ll ride the hot hand and this will probably be a pretty even committee.

  133. BringBucsBack Says:

It will say a lot if Rojo is asked to give up his #27.

  134. Rod Munch Says:

Vaughn is not getting cut, that’s pure nonsense. The team spent a 3rd rounder on him and there’s no chance he’d make it to the practice squad without someone claiming him. Vaughn will likely not be activated early in the season, but he’s not getting cut.

Dare is completely expendable, no one will claim him or sign him – he’ll be on his couch waiting for McCoy to get hurt (which is pretty likely in my opinion).

That gives you 4 RBs, and then they’ll likely sign a return/specials teams guy that might be a 5th RB depending on who is available. But Dare not being special means they won’t need to worry about him getting swooped up and don’t have to spend a practice squad spot on him. As for the practice squad for Dare, I don’t really know the rules anymore as Griffin was like 39 years old 2 years ago and still was eligible for the practice squad, even after 17 years of being in the league. It’s weird how they do it and not cut and dry how it was years ago.

    …………

He doesn’t understand Simple facts man.

  136. tbbucs3 Says:

Yea Keyshawn Vaughn was a complete reach by Licht in the 3rd round. He basically just became irrelevant for the 2020 Bucs season.

  137. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog get your head out winston butt. Maybe you would know anybody can go on the practice squad this year.

  139. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Now do you naysayer believe the Bucs are all in for this year!

SUPER BOWL OR BUST! Bring the Lomabrdi home to Tampa Bay in 2021!

  140. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

This was a great pick up. We got a freak RB on a prove it contract for nothing and if it doesn’t pan out we can cut him and didn’t lose a thing.

Ndog you don’t get it man, I haven’t been reading a lot of comments for a while but it’s sad AF to see you still harping on this. What you fail to realize is if Jameis came back, Gronk wouldn’t be here, shady wouldn’t be here, Suh might not resign, Howard would want out, and Fournette would be a Patriot.

You fail to realize it takes two to tango and players have to want the come here. With Brady here, not only do guys want to come play here, but they are willing to do it without breaking the bank. This has lead to an impressive accumulation of talent. Could Jameis have won with this team? Maybe, we’ll never know and we never would have known anyways because players weren’t jumping on the 30-30 train, they just weren’t and you need to accept that.

I hope you are doing well NDog and this is just some fun schtick you do.

WillieG ,  Steven007,   Erik Hesson – Fine Artist – City of St Pete,  Rod Munch,    Tnoles,   ClodHopper, Brandon, Bucsfan951 and JimmyJack  are just some of the real fans here!

  142. Rod Munch Says:

I just watched his ‘highlights’ for 2019… and, humm… There was a couple of nice runs… A couple.

Could have been someone bad doing the highlights, but he looked like — Barber. I really wasn’t impressed. He didn’t look bad, but he didn’t look like anything special.

I then watched Ronald’s highlight – and it was dramatically more impressive, I mean dramatically.

People are overthinking this I think. It’s a good signing, not a star signing. He was cut for a reason.

  143. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs the offense is already built you sound stupid.

NDog (& Joey): there’s a 16 man practice squad this year. Anyone is eligible, and you can protect 4 players from being picked up.

  146. DaBux Says:
