Bucs “Serious” About Fournette

September 2nd, 2020

Targeting.

Is the seems the Bucs are not screwing around this summer.

Joe trusts few guys covering the NFL more than Albert Breer of SI.com. He’s tight with the right people. Basically, he is the new Peter King (since he succeeded King at King’s old gig).

Breer took to Twitter this evening to report the Bucs are “serious” about trying to reel in freshly unemployed running back Leonard Fournette.

As stated before on the “Ira Kaufman Podcast,” it was very interesting that just before the Jags released Fournette, because they didn’t want to pay his $4 million salary bonus, the Bucs began negotiating with Lavonte David on a contract extension.

Joe guessed this was a move to clear some cap room to get Fournette. This seems to be more than a coincidence now, and Joe doesn’t believe in coincidences.

Earlier this week when Joe asked Arians about any interest in Fournette, Arians sure didn’t deny it.

Go get him, Jason Licht!

Please get fournette. Cause rojo is trash trash trash

  2. CPN Says:

Win now mode. Go all in, baby!

  3. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    I am indifferent on this.

On one hand if we get him GREAT!!!!!!!

On the other if we don’t eh no biggie we have guys who can run the football.

  4. DoooshLaRue Says:

    TBBB,

    I feel the same way.
    We’re good.

  5. James in Memphis Says:

I heard Lee’s take on Fournette and his response to a fans comparison of Jones and Fournette.. I gotta say Lee.. I don’t think the fan was crazy with his take.. When you’re the only weapon on offense you are gonna have numbers.. You are gonna have a lot of opportunity.. You should have numbers if all the offense is doing is lining up in the I and either hand you the ball or throwing you a check down.. I’m not saying he’s trash but Jones is a very explosive back himself.. I think with a more efficient offense this year will grant him a lot more opportunities to be featured.. At the end of the day I think it will show Jones to be a better option for the Buccaneers..

  6. Perimeter Blocker Says:

If this happens our backfield is suddenly very deep! Running back would suddenly be a position that is a strength. If Succop can make at least 85% of his kicks and we get a worthy backup QB I would be hard pressed to find a true weakness… On paper this will be quite a collection of talent…

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m OK with bringing him in…..mainly because we’ll be punting less and Bradley Pinion was number one in the entire NFL on touchbacks……
Why does this matter……because a Fournette addition will probably cost us another ST player……perhaps Dare….or someone else….

But, who needs ST if all you do is score TDs all game long?

  8. James in Memphis Says:

You gotta develope the talent you’ve drafted at some point..

  9. Joe in Michigan Says:

I really wonder what a human being has done in life the was so great, so overly impressive, stupendous, incredible, that they could call another human being “trash”.

  10. Joe in Michigan Says:

    *That was

  11. Jaycorr Says:

Go get him Light (Arians lol). Our chips are pushed into the middle. You can never have enough talent. Hell go get some defensive backs too!!!

  12. Gettinthebucs Says:

I’ll take it. I keep hearing about locker room issues with this dude. For the first time in a long time I’m confident this locker room can handle a malcontent. Between Brady, shady, JPP and suh along with others this situation wouldn’t make me uncomfortable. We’d get a motivated young guy looking for a pay day. If he balls out and leaves we’d get a good compensatory pick. Make it happen!

  13. Ron says Says:

It would be nice to have a running back who can grind out the time of a game and reliably move the sticks. This is a great situation for Fournette to come to a team which has a chance at winning the championship and be able to be a intricate part of the process. If we are close with our offer I hope he realizes the benefit this will have for his career and his legacy instead of looking for another team who will feature him and maybe pay him, he could be a part of winning a super bowl with Tom Brady and Gronk the first year they are not wearing a patriot’s uniform, the pieces of this team will be remembered forever.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

If this happens the Bucs go from a no-name backfield to a backfield of super stars.

I want to know one thing: was his release from Jax just $$$, or is there something else?

How is he as a teammate or lockerroom presence?

  15. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Cobraboy I can’t even imagine signing him and keeping McCoy

  16. Joe in Michigan Says:

Cobraboy: I wondered about the Bucs signing Simeon Rice back in the early 2000’s, he had baggage from his Cardinals days. It worked out because of Sapp, Brooks, and other teammates that had a winning mentality. I’d expect Fournette to fit in, because of Brady, Gronk, etc. Plus, if he is bad in the locker room, the Bucs can cut him without too much damage.

  17. Joe in Michigan Says:

Thomas Jones was another reclamation project with the Bucs. I think he had one good year with Tampa Bay, then signed elsewhere for big money.

  18. Georger Says:

If you get rid of McCoy I think that is the way to go.

  19. Dewey Selmon Says:

Does RoJo give up his number like Godwin did?

  20. The Graham Tram Says:

Wasn’t really excited initiallly because he seems injury prone and character concerns, but I’d probably have character concerns too if I was a jag. We don’t really have a backup right now for Jones and he split carries last year with Barber last year. Fournette certainly better than Barber so why not. Pound em!!!!

  21. Rayjay1122 Says:

    Overnight him a playbook. Lol

  22. BridleOaks Buc Says:

Lagarette Blount didn’t have the talent and was way more messed up in the head and in the locker room than Fournette. That’s why he was bounced from the Bucs and the Steelers. Then the Patriots took him in…that veteran locker room, TB and BB changed his life. He was an important piece of Super Bowl victories. That’s right. Victories. Pleural. As a Bucs fan, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I trust this locker room and coaching staff to change this dudes life and win some SB’s with us!!

  23. m0j0 Says:

Man, if this happens, we might be looking at video game numbers this season for the offense.

  24. BucBrady Says:

Anybody who thinks RoJo is just gonna get tossed overboard are fooling themselves. He’s gonna get a fair amount of carries even if Fournette comes.

  25. Fournette Sucks Says:

Don’t get Fournette, he sucks! He’s bad for the locker room and he can’t break a shoe string tackle!

  26. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

I don’t see this happening. I think BA and company believes ROJO will make a bigger jump this year and McCoy is a good option as a second or a third down back.

Licht made a move like this last year with Mike Evans (twice) for extra cap room to sign players after the 53 cutdown and for extra money in case of injuries.

Leonard Fournette is a fine back but not his rushing average was not that much higher than ROJO. His passing catching skill is about the same level as McCoy, but McCoy is much more elusive after the catch.

  27. Bayboy55 Says:

Jones will fumble eventually, then fournette RB1 for good

  28. ncbucsfan Says:

    Wrong Alabamabucsfan……he’s signing now!!!!!!! LFG!!!!

  29. Bucs dude Says:

    Joe they signed him !!!!!

  30. EA Says:

    they got him

  31. Aristotle Says:

Happier about this than Tom Brady coming to town!!!

  32. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

ncbucsfan says “Wrong Alabamabucsfan……he’s signing now!!!!!!! LFG!!!!”

I’ll believe it when I see it in writing…..at this point, there’s only rumors. I just don’t see it happening so late in the offseason. Hope you are right and I am wrong.

  33. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

    Signed!

  34. Jeagan1999 Says:

NFL Network reporting Fournette to sign with Bucs!

  35. Leighroy Says:

It’s happening! I was indifferent on him before, but now that he’s on the ship, LFG!!!

  36. Durango 95 Says:

Rojo and Fournette the Bucs new one-two punch! Love it.

  37. Bucsfan951 Says:

Well, I didn’t think it would happen. Boy was I wrong lol

  38. King C Says:

Sorry LeSean, you’re gonna be on the street soon.
No way the Bucs signed McCoy if they knew a stud like Fournette would come available for cheap.

  39. TBTeddy Says:

We gotta try to break some records this year to make up for all the losing we’ve endured rooting for the Bucs

  40. Go Bucs 72 Says:

Well, I still think Fournette is a knucklehead but he’s here now so GO BUCS!!

  41. TheBradyBunch Says:

    LFG!!!!!!

  42. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Glad to be finally wrong……Seriously, this is good news. Appears to be a one year deal.

If Licht signs him, he has moved up my ladder as one of the better GMs.

If Fournette does not resign next year, Bucs potentially gets a comp pick the following year. Patriots are famous for 1 year deals and comp picks when players don’t resign. Great move.

  43. JimbobBucsFan Says:

RoJo is not trash. He is still unproven. He is still growing. He could be our guy for several years to come.

However, the future is now if we want to make the run for the “impossible”.

In BA & JL I trust.

  45. Buccfan37 Says:

I liked Fournette when he was originally drafted but realized he was too highly rated to land with the Bucs. This addition to this team will be huge. Still I like Rojo the scamperer very much as Fournette will be the plower.

  46. orlbucfan Says:

The one player who doesn’t have to give up $$ to sign this one, is LVD!! I can tell I just signed on today. Stupid rules as stupid does.
