No Shaq, No Problem

September 20th, 2020

Toasting Ndamukong Suh.

Through two games, the reigning NFL sack king has been shut out on sacks. Like a decent defense should, others have picked up the slack.

Either Shaq Barrett has slipped, or teams have vowed that Shaq will not hurt them. Of course, that should mean others have an opportunity on defense. And that has been the case.

The Bucs rocked Stinking Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater today for five sacks, none from Shaq, however. Instead, Ndamukong Suh (2), Jason Pierre-Paul, Antoine Winfield Jr. and Will Gholston took care of things.

Suh, 33, the old man of the Bucs defense, had his first multiple-sack game in five years. He also had four solo tackles and two tackles for loss.

JPP, of course, was in the Carolina backfield a lot today. Joe is convinced this guy is the most important player in the pass defense.

And JPP also had a nice bodyslam of Stinking Panthers wide receiver Robby Anderson.

No, Shaq was pretty much invisible today. Thankfully, the Bucs had other options to harass the quarterback.

    Hello ?

    Shaq?

    Where are you?

Didn’t you get a helluva lota money to play for one year?

    Hellllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooo?????? Where is Shaq?????

  2. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

LOL..GREAT photo…bet you been dying to bust that out !

  3. Bucamania Says:

GUy had 3 sacks against Carolina last year. No idea why he’s not getting pressure.

  4. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Joe

Shaq got paid………..of course he ain’t gonna ball out now…..he got paid!!!!!………..like Grandma softie Gerald McCoy!!!!!!

  5. DaBux Says:

Shaq wasn’t invisible, he created pressure forcing the kittens to change blocking assignments. It’s why we had DL in their backfield most of the game. Matt Ryan isn’t going to survive if we’re going to get to him with a 4 man rush.

    Shaq will be fine.

Opposing teams QB’s? Not so much.

  6. Buczilla Says:

It’s early, but it’s looking like he’ll come dirt cheap next year if we decide to resign him. Www me game by the entire defense. Carlton Davis is looking damn good too.

  7. Rod Munch Says:

This is why you didn’t give Shaq a contract extension after last offseason. He had an amazing year, possibly a 1-year wonder year. You never pay someone based on peak production which will never happen again. I think he’ll still end up with 10-12 sacks – then you can afford to pay him to keep him. But he needs to still get those numbers.

  8. Buczilla Says:

*great game by the entire defense. Perhaps I’ve had one too many? 😜

  9. bucfanforever Says:

BucsAnthem – Shaq didn’t get paid, he got tagged, he was looking for a deal.

  10. Godlovesbucs Says:

Shaq got a 1 year tender, thats not getting paid. Is he drawing doubles? Te chips? Rb help? If we get 5 sacks a game from other guys cause he is drawing the blocks, then kudos to him.

Not sure if thats true, couldnt watch the game. What say you guys?

  11. Atlbucs28 Says:

LMBO! The guy is all over the place making plays as a “Linebacker”… People crying.. SMDH!

  12. Howard Cosell Says:

Nebraska legend, helping erase the memory of Aunt Geraldine.
Good times!! It would be fitting if the Bucs make a run this year
and Suh (as well as Brady) gets a last hurrah

  13. adam from ny Says:

i saw shaq bringing pressure on multiple occasions…

    what game were y’all watching???…

    no stat sheet sacks tho

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ bucfanforever

Yeah……he got top tier DE money for one year…which means HE GOT PAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m glad the bucs didn’t lock him up to a long term contract

  15. Frankinthe813 Says:

It looks like they have him in covering the Backfield guys today

  16. bucfanforever Says:

BucsAnthem, he got tagged as a Linebacker and didn’t like it

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

Again….TWO Games!!! He came close to getting to Teddy once….

But last year somebody help me remember…Shaq was a very streaky guy…started off on fire…went cold (re sacks) in the middle of the year and then finished strong.

Shaq is the kind of guy who can blow up any week for multiple sacks, He’s streaky,

  18. james west Says:

yeah did he not file a grievance over that label? because DE make more money

  19. Allbuccedup Says:

He better pick it up if hes going to get paid if not he will be the odd man out.

  20. Cainishere Says:

You people give Suh no love. That man MANHANDLED the Panthers.
The entire defense looks beautiful. Stellar in fact! Got some picks Very nice!
FINALLY A offensive SHORT GAME, nice game plan vs the Panthers.
Notice how difficult it was for Carolina to determine what we were doing on both sides of the ball.
3rd quarter Blues? Let’s hope not.
FORNETTE? AWESOME SIR! What a bruiser you are!!
Shady got to stop putting that extra butter on them biscuits sir 😀
Special teams looked a lot better!
Did our punter hurt himself when he fell from heaven?
Now I realize this was the Panthers and they aren’t exactly a great team or anything but we in the 2nd Super Bowl dress rehearsal did pretty well and were more well rounded.
Some say we won’t beat no Denver. Let’s hope that we do fellas.
    Great team effort GO BUCS!!!!

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Bro watch Shaq on every play today. He was fantastic.Get me a break with this article. We got 2 Suh sacks today. Team sacks matter more then personal stats

  22. JimmyJack Says:

Allbuc white cares if he gets paid? I need Shaq in my team

  23. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Players are paid off individual stats.

  24. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Shaq played pretty well. Pressures are good plays.

  25. Christopher Schiefen Says:

But if you were running things we’d have Kevin Minter at MLB and Dobbins at RB.

  26. J Dubb Says:

I have no qualms with Shaq’s play. It seems to me like I see both Shaq and JPP in coverage on third down more than I was expecting to see.

  27. webster Says:

    @ rod

If shaq gets 12 sacks this year, he will still want/deserve top tier money for a pass rusher. I’m not sure what you mean by “then we can afford to pay him.” He will cost major money if he gets 12 sacks after a 19 sack season.

  28. Craig Says:

Shaq had a big game today, just didn’t record any sacks.

Next week, at Denver, he will get around three sacks. I am sure he has plans for his old team.

Bridgewater stepped up and into the pocket today to get away from the outside rush. That stuck him into Suh’s grip. Most other QBs roll out to get away from the rush. That serves them up for Shaq. He;ll be fine.

  29. Coburn Says:

I’m sure Shaq will get it together at some point but was prob smart after his year last year to make him play on the tag

  30. 813bucboi Says:

    Suh was a beast today….
    Gholston was a beast today….
    JPP was a beast today….
    Winfield was a beast today….

    We have a defense

    GO BUCS

  31. 813bucboi Says:

    That photo is classic lol

    GO BUCS

  32. ©MadMax Says:

Another one enjoying the money like Gronk….all good, bye bye next year if you keep this up Mr Shaq.

Suh, JPP, Gholston….hungry hungry HUNGRY VETS!! FK the money, they want the ring

  33. ModHairKen Says:

Suh was phenomenal today. One of his best games as a pro. Elevated everyone. Clogged the middle. Forced early throws. Sacks. TFLs.

  34. Issac haggins Says:

    Yes Shaq played well !!

  35. SOEbuc Says:

Shaq might be good, but the money isn’t there. I’m still saying resign LVD and draft a stud OLB in the first or second.

  36. unbelievable Says:

Shaq was pressuring people all day.

I’d hardly call that invisible just bc he didn’t record a sack.

  37. Cainishere Says:

Apparently I need to explain things to some of you. As Joe said, teams do not want Shaq to repeat. So he is being plotted heavily against by offenses right now. A day like today is a gift because of Shaq receiving so much attention. That opened up everyone else. Showing that we have a HOF Defense in the works this season. Pay close attention. In the end this defense will be the yard stick for all defenses being the Text Book example. Shaq will get his now that defenses simply will have to respect each member of our defense.
    GO BUCS!!!

  38. firethecannons Says:

matter of time and Shaq will be back JPP meanwhile is balling, Suh is playing well, he seems to be in a good place–years ago I remember when he was a Dolphin and strangled Ryan Mallet during the Baltimore game–fun history, Ryan Jensen was there for that. He is loving being a Buc or being married or being a Vita Vea mentor. So much upgrade over GMC. One of our most important players.

  39. VERN Says:

Shaq just needs few more games; then you see what he can do.

  40. Cainishere Says:

The last sentence I typed in my last post I typed
” Shaq will get his now that defenses simply will have to respect each member of our defense.”
Should have read ” Shaq will get his now that offenses simply will have to respect each member of our defense.

  41. Topcoach_78 Says:

Shaq was not “pretty much invisible” stats didn’t show a lot of the pressures he applied and harassed TB the entire game he was just always a second to late Joe!

  42. Hahahahaha Says:

Yall are the worst fans ever. Honestly did you even watch the game? He was creating pressure all over the place. Comparing Shaq to Gmac is comparing apples to oranges. So hes literally playing for a contract but we’re supposed to believe he’s loafing and taking the year off? You.know that means he won’t get paid again right? Morons. Is there even any glue left to huff in Tampa?
