Akeem Spence: Don’t Play

August 9th, 2020

Former Bucs DT wants NFL shut down for the year.

Since the Bucs let go of defensive tackle Akeem Spence after the 2016 season, he’s played with four NFL teams, including Philadelphia and Jacksonville last year, seeing play in 15 games.

This year? He’s not on any team’s roster. Spence has opted out because of “The Sickness.” Spence still lives in Tampa and his girlfriend is expecting a baby girl soon, he tells Kevin O’Donnell of WTVT-TV Channel 13.

But Spence, despite his personal decision to sit out, thinks the NFL ought to shut down operations.

In short, Spence doesn’t believe football, as it is presently set up, is safe in a pandemic.

“You want my honest opinion?” Spence told O’Donnell. “I think it’s probably going to be worse because I think the owners in the NFL are going to keep trying to push the issue for the game. Just because of revenue income and streams.”

Well, yeah, because it is a business. And guess who loses money when the owners lose money? The players. The salary cap is expected to drop big time next season because of projected revenue declines.

Does anyone really believe the NFL exists just to provide free TV programming to the networks? C’mon.

As far as football not being safe enough, did not the NFLPA just recently vote it is safe enough, at least for a vast majority of association members? When it looked like the NFL wasn’t going to have safe training camps, players took to social media to complain with the hashtag #WeWantToPlay.

Most players also know a year off from football is a year of their football careers they will never get back. This means (in many cases) millions of dollars flushed away for good.

Spence suggested if he were NFL strongman Roger Goodell, he would tell the players to take a year off “and when everything is right next year, you get it back tenfold.”

Well, paying employees “tenfold” for shutting down a business for a year simply shows to Joe a fundamental lack of understanding of how a business works. How exactly is the NFL supposed to make — say, just five times more revenue — after locking its doors in order to pay its employees 10-times as much the following year?

Look, Spence is a nice guy and he has always been good to Joe, but that notion is simply absurd. Joe would like to see Spence’s reaction if his landlord (if he has one) told him, “Don’t worry about paying rent for the next year but when that year expires, for the following 12 months, you will pay me 10-times the rent.”

And as far as everything will be OK next year, we know this how? Joe’s already seen studies where a large swath of Americans, *if* there is a vaccine for The Sickness, won’t take it.

How long has HIV and herpes been around? You know of any cure? Hell, Peter King spoke with an infectious disease specialist recently who suggested it could be four years before a working vaccine is developed.

Does anyone really believe the corona will be fully wiped out when players must report for duty in April of next year? Seriously?

Are we supposed to lock up sports for four years? Are we supposed to hide in bunkers paralyzed by fear for four years and pretend it’s back to caveman days?

Until further notice, what we are going through now, sadly, is the new norm. Adapt and overcome and hope for a vaccine sooner than later. A vaccine that works.

    I second your thoughts Joe.

    In BA I Trust!

  2. Jean Lafitte Says:

..and I had high hopes for Spence when drafted but he just never developed.

  3. Pete Says:

Spence never plays another down… but probably wasn’t pre COVID anyway

  4. RCS Says:

Wow this seems more of a political attack than it anything else. Before Joe decided to bash Spence did you do any other research into his stance? Because if you did you would have found that he’s been very vocal on this matter for about 2 weeks and after the NFLPA voted in favor of the measures he attacked the NFLPA and its leadership saying they did not have the players best interest in mind. He posted several items on his IG stories that gained alot of repost from players including a number of Bucs players. So taking 2 sentences from the interview and then writing 5 paragraphs and comparing HIV and herpes to his take is about as unprofessional of a post I have ever seen on this site since I started reading its articles years and years ago…..

  5. Rayjay1122 Says:

Hmmm…RCS….I am guessing the S stands for Spense. Seem very up to speed on an insignificant player to not be related.

  6. DanBucsFan Says:

Spence lmao….. I see that Mj Stewart landed on his feet and signed with the Browns. Watch him turn into a stud lol

  7. RCS Says:

Or maybe I know about it because about 5 different Buc players re-posted his stories, and about 10 other NFL players that I follow on IG….
Also a player who played in 15 games last year isn’t too insignificant…

  8. Clean House Says:

    Way to go RCS!
    Shame on you Joe!

  9. lambchop Says:

4 years to develop a vaccine? Yes, Peter King is my go to source on that. I think there is some major context missing from the doctor he spoke to. It takes maybe that long or more to get a vaccine trialed and approved under normal circumstances, but we’re under a worldwide pandemic so it’s going to be fast-tracked.

You’ll probably have to sign a liability waiver with this one since it’s fast-tracked, but there are at least 2 vaccines showing promise already. Many pharmaceutical companies are already starting production at this very moment to get ahead in case the promising vaccines are approved because the world will need access to this and demand will be instantaneously high. Finding the vaccine won’t take long, mass producing and distributing it will.

This virus isn’t going to go away, but there is a cure in sight. Why are we comparing this to HIV? Btw, even HIV has been largely controlled with medicine. People live with HIV. There will be a Covid-19 vaccine by 2021.

I don’t support cancelling the season, but every player has the right to their opinion and their reasoning for opting out. It’s their life, their bodies, their families. And we still haven’t started the season. The NFL is going to have bumps along the road since there is no universal bubble system being adopted. This season will be a train wreck. That’s guaranteed with the way MLB has been hit hard. NFL games will be cancelled. Watch and see.

Has anyone thought about the number of tests these athletes go through that are being taken away from the avg citizen? While people wait in their cars in long lines for hours, athletes get numerous tests each week.

  10. Stanglassman Says:

It’s a good thing Spence said “make it back ten fold” instead of ‘back up a brinks truck’ cause then we’d have to read about how the truck isn’t worth all that much it’s the cash or gold inside.

It’s weird how every other 1st world country has gotten past the virus but here we are being told just to get use to it because it will be around for years.

  11. Pete I Says:

Spence should know about being shut down…he was for his entire “Career”! We have become a nation of fearful men – thank God this gutless generation didn’t have to fight Germany and Japan…

  12. Toxic masculinity Says:

Ohhh RCS look at you, so cute to stand valiantly with Akeem. Unfortunately for you, it’s a hill you will die on. I don’t give 2 shi** how king your boy has been talking about this. That does magically make his logic more sound. This is the problem with millions of people like you thinking everything needs to shut down forever. Your simple binary brains not seeing the forest through the trees and factoring in long term ramifications. “Making solution worse than the problem.” I swear to go I don’t think people should be allowed to vote until they’re at least 30, when human brains are fully developed and can make rational, cogent, nuanced decisions. Unlike 21 yr old jobless tards protesting that don’t know anything about life

  13. Roy T. Buford Says:

Good article Joe, even with Spence gumming it up as he and many players clearly don’t “get it.” Millions upon millions of Americans, who could really use football about now as a diversion from the pandemic, are struggling to pay their bills. Meanwhile, too many of those holding the microphone have jobs, even thrive off of all this, like the media, and Congress–they are tone deaf. I am thankful for some executive orders from the President over the weekend to help those who need it with their rent/mortgages, to help people where Congress can’t seem to get it done. Let there be football! We live in a country that is resilient to all this as people are TRYING to move on with their lives and get the businesses and people back working again–even though there are people out there with nothing to lose trying to shut it all down. A key part of getting and keeping things on the right track is the NFL…that employs a whole lot more than just players.

  14. Roy T. Buford Says:

Now a word on public safety, from Akeem Spence. Spence, a guy who at 22 years old was stopped by state troopers in AL for driving 100 mph, and arrested because they found marijuana and illegal drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors (of course). Oh sure, youthful exhuberance some say? Most people have enough brain cells not to pull that stuff, especially when they are of age and then some. Sorry, don’t need to hear any philosophy from guys like Spence, unless it is how he learned from his mistakes as for God knows how long put others harm’s way with his stupidity. Oh sure, he’s all grown up now because because of his girlfriend’d kid on the way, and besides, his misdeeds were years ago. Yeah, we’ve heard that before.

  15. Buczilla Says:

I know this dude is still wet behind the ears, but his detachment from reality is kinda shocking. Tenfold?!? Luckily, having kids has a tendency to slap people in the face with a cold, hard, dose of reality. Good luck to you Mr. Spence.

He is one individual with an opinion who just happens to have access to a public platform. Same as every actor, musician and TV personality. Just because you are publicly known doesn’t make that opinion any more valid than the next guys. It just means you can yell it louder.

  19. Diehard Bucs fanatic813 Says:

It sad to see media like yourself so down and out to bash someone for caring about his brothers health..I’m sure your happy with how your president handle it right joe because he saving everyone lives ..You talk about the nflpa the same Nflpa that agreed with owners to move up the opt out deadline because guys were putting there families first. Also they made sure they did it when guy were at there busiest too genius..but u know business !! it looks like you may not care about your family since you always need a story..must suck you can’t go in the locker room and make up story to bash young man and coaches ..Lol I see people talk about weed cool last time I check the Nfl just okayed it but people live in the pass like I’m sure our president has a great pass …Since people made a comment about brain cells I’m sure your one of those people who are for guys taking opioids pills and toradal for your sick entertainment but im sure if it was your kids or love one if would be different..O ya i wouldn’t worry about bashing spence to bad because your GM Jason has been a joke thus far how many head coaches how many playoffs ..but because Tom Brady came to bleed the city your excited…ya let’s look up Jason stats joe!!! Tell the world !!
    1) Joe is not down and out or ripping anyone. Spence brought up a topic and Joe commented. It appears Spence wanted people talking about this issue because he chose to use his platform to do a TV interview about it.
    2) Nothing written here has anything to do with presidential politics.
    3) Joe is not involved in player negotiations.
    4) Joe doesn’t make up stories.
    5) Joe is all in favor of legalizing weed.
    6) Joe doesn’t take opiods, but it is sad that many disabled people who can benefit from opiods are forced to jump through incredible hoops to get them because of the abusers and scared doctors.
    7) Anyone can see Jason Licht’s ugly record. Joe just wrote about a piece of it two days ago. https://www.joebucsfan.com/2020/08/sloppy-seconds-2/

  20. Bucbrown Says:

I’m sure you guys like what he said but nothing he saying it facts. That young man has been inside the locker room seen what goes on ..now here is joe a guy just looking for a story and a point ..instead of talking to spence just like kev a respected media man ..you take two lines from the article ..Also joe that GM Jason how many playoffs has this city been too ..how many winning season but he still has a job. you will not write about that because u wont be allowed back at one buck. Hello? Joe just wrote this the other day about Jason Licht. You obviously don’t read much here. https://www.joebucsfan.com/2020/08/sloppy-seconds-2/–Joe
..I support a man for taking a stance not just for self but for others..but let it be your child smh the world has gone mad !!! Over sports that they weren’t capable of playing !! Hello! Nobody’s forcing anyone to play football. The NFL did the right thing and set up a plan for players to opt out and about 2 percent did.
And the many billions paid to players each year helps generations worth of kids, from players families & their future families to countless kids in the community who benefit from players’ charitable donations. That money makes a historic difference in saving lives, improving lives and quality of life. –Joe

  21. BigHog Says:

The ” sickness ” is killing people at an untold rate…You People rail on Spence but ignore the decision maker on BLACK LIVES MATTER BLVD (in the White House)!! This country should have shut down when we first started to encounter this sickness but there was absolutely zero leadership at the top…He signed orders to keep all Mexicans out and all Muslems out but now this sicknes got a strong hold on your ass…and you couldn’t keep it out! “Ohh but one day it will just go away” that’s a quote from your leader! SPENCE over maga any day of the week!!!

  22. RCS Says:

Toxic… Can you please show me where I said everything needs to be shut down forever? Can you show me where Spence says shut down everything forever? You did the same thing Joe did. You took a statement and blew it way out of frame to fit your political issue that you have with his statement. You talk about logic and fully develop this and that but can’t even get the bases of the statement correct. Hard to be masculine anything when you at like a B**** because someone said something you don’t like and it hurts your snowflake feelings. This season will last maybe 3 weeks before its shut down. But the NFL revenue is too much for these owners for them not to atleast attempt a go at it.

  23. RCS Says:

Also Akeem Spence is 28 years old. Where are yall getting this 22 and “wet behind the ears”?

  24. BigHog Says:

And a wor of public safety on DJ Trump here is a man with a long list of assault allegations againt women and he still made it to THE WHITE HOUSE….on Nov. 4th vote this womenizer out office and please do it by mail…give him a one way ticket back to Lar A Margo…never should he be allowed to return…talking about he has done more for black people than Honest Abe…I CAN’T BREATHE!!

  25. Stanglassman Says:

This ‘you want shut down forever’ trope would make a lot more sense if it didn’t work in every other country who did it correctly. They’ve moved on opened up fully.

  26. Stanglassman Says:

Often, leaders who responded more slowly have cited the need to prioritize economic growth. But the trade-offs between the economy and public health may not actually exist, scientists and economists say: The fastest route to economic normalcy involves controlling the spread of the virus.

You say all that because you’re a partisan hack but in actual fact it was the democrats who cried when Trump shut down airline travel to thwart corona virus. Get your facts straight. The do nothing democrats, all they do is cry and blame everything on Trump. This country will be fk’d if Biden wins.

  28. Buczilla Says:

    @RCS

I checked his age before I posted, but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt since that is still young in my book. He was either being disingenuous about what he thought Roger should do (absolutely absurd to pay tenfold), or he was simply being naive. I chose the latter since I tend to see people in a positive light until given a reason not to. Peace man.

  29. mark2001 Says:

How can you feel badly for someone that has a vaccine available and won’t take it? And then gets sick with fatal outcomes? I want to feel badly for anyone that does so… but it is a challenge to do so. Their kids that have no choice..definitely..certainly…but for an adult? Very difficult to feel so.

  30. Hodad Says:

Didn’t read the article. Who cares what a former 2nd round bust 4 teams removed from the Bucs has to say?

  31. Marine Buc Says:

Oh no! Akeem Spence isn’t playing!!!!!

Hahahahahahaha… This guy sucked when he played here and he wasn’t going to make an NFL roster this season anyways. He knows this is the last $150K he will ever make from the NFL.

Rcs you and all the pathetic scared sheep are morons shutting down any business was complete stupidity mask and social distancing is working fine there is no time table for this virus if that’s what it really is wake up sheep do we hide at home indefinitely I don’t think so

  33. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Solution being worse than the problem, story of the year. A recent study showed that the average American believes 30 million Americans have died from covid. 225 times higher than the real number. People are too lazy to do their own research so they just watch the news or scan their feeds, which are filled with sickness stories and constant new death numbers so much that they think it surely must be at least 30 mil, as many 1000’s as they’ve seen. Mr. Spence is also in this group of Americans, not all his fault either, he is a product of his environment unfortunately. This sickness is only deadly for a very small minority. And every NFL opt out article I read talks about the players new born baby….0 deaths in children under 4. Yes that is correct ZERO deaths in children under 4 per CDC. Another thing the Spanish flu which killed over 600,000 Americans 100 years ago, was never even mentioned publically by president Woodrow Wilson, never. It wasn’t fear-porn peddled for ratings. There was a time in America where everyone had a concept of personal responsibility, before the current age of all inequity is surely the result of inequality and someone else must be responsible. Frivolous lawsuits galore is one example, another is when a junkie OD’s we used to say what a tragedy, today we charge the dealer with murder. Couldn’t be the junkies fault, after all every misfortune that happens in today’s America is surely caused by someone or something else. This country has a large group of the population that has lost footing on the slippery slope of deflecting personal responsibility and is free falling. It leads to more and more selfish and imprudent decisions.

    mark2001 Says:

    Truly scary, non-sympathetic behaviors…

Then again, I have no sympathy for the hysterical sky-is-falling Virus Karens out there…

Wayne – Stanglassman said it best:
“This ‘you want shut down forever’ trope would make a lot more sense if it didn’t work in every other country who did it correctly. They’ve moved on opened up fully.”
You have no idea what my views are. I’m simply saying that Joe was wrong to take 2 sentences and write 5 paragraphs on the matter without doing any additional JOURNALISM into his stance. Joe, Others, and You simply have political views that you feel are soooo important to express that you ignore facts and logic simply to spew what you hear from your cult leader. There’s nothing political — in thought or actuality — about what Joe wrote. Joe realizes it’s common for many people to think everything has a political slant these days, but it’s just not accurate and it’s certainly not the case here.. –Joe

So Spence says something stupid like “ten-times the amount”, and you all bash him for his larger point- -this year the NFL isn’t going to work. And it won’t!
The virus is blowing up now in the mid-west just like it did in uh, uh, FLORIDA. BTW, congratulations you guys only had 8,502 new cases yesterday. And, it will stay high until people start to accept what science is telling us how to fight the virus. That is obviously not going to happen soon.
Big hog, I hope that Nov. 4 date for hoped for change is an oversight. Trump needs to meet his fate on Nov. 3.
Lamb chop said it already. Players will catch it. Games will be cancelled. What kind of season will that be? No fans eliminates a huge part of the excitement of a game- -even if you’re watching on TV. Losing multiple key players in the middle of the year due to the virus will wreck the season.
Even Fauci has said a vaccine could be ready by 2021. Let’s ride out this thing with as few cases, long term illness, and deaths as possible. If there is no vaccine in 2021 that will be the time to re-evaluate much of our society including sports.

  39. Bucnjim Says:

Spence is making more money sitting at home because in all likelihood he could’ve/would’ve been cut. There seems to be either a bunch of hypocrisy on this post or people who just get their bills paid for them. You see in real life (NOT FANTASY ISLAND) people have to work for a living. At the most even withthe government assistance families have a month or two. Worth of savings. The hypocrisy comes in when people have no problem going to pubix or McDonalds 5 times a week but are worried about multimillionaires. Just like people sitting at home collecting checks criticising people who earn their checks.

  40. SufferingSince76 Says:

Big Hog, if you insist on making political statements without the mention of football, please take it to the opinion section of your local newspaper. You and several others continue to make the same tired points as if we don’t already know them by heart. Bring something new and maybe someone might listen.

  41. BigHog Says:

  42. Coburn Says:

He’s kinda right except for the gross exaggeration. Only reason this year is still a go ATM is $$$$. America has handled this thing so poorly already and the cases are piling up. People focus too much on mortality numbers. I’m a 34 year old dude who wouldn’t dir but it may damage my lungs enough that I may not be able to continue working out at the gym with the same effectiveness the rest of my life. Imagine a professional athlete where every edge you can get can be difference between staying in the league or not making the team.

Will we be free of this by next year? Probably not, but it’s about of control down there right now

Just gotta run the BS flag up on your post. When you lie so egregiously it destroys anything you say later.

“the average American believes 30 million Americans have died from Covid. 225 times higher than the real number.”

I don’t know what the “average” Americans believe. I know about 1/3 are not well educated and very poorly informed so I can’t speak to what they believe or where they get their info.

I tend to watch several outlets including local news. I’ve seen Covid stats ENDLESSLY…AD NAUSEUM according to some here. I knew we were at FIVE million deaths because everyday the media says…we passed the one million..two million..and on and on till now it’s five million.

Still I looked it up. 5.01 million as of today.

Let’s check your math skills. Even IF you accept that the dumb 1/3 of our country live in a cave or watch only one outlet for their info..and they believe your 30 million # that’s SIX times the actual number not 225!!! Where did you get your 225 number?

Hey Joe,your web site turned my 11:24 post into Anonymous. What’s up?
Since I posted that, my morning newspaper (yes, I still read one) revealed the MAC conference has scrubbed football for 2020. PAC-12 is thinking of that and Big 10 still hasn’t OKed training camps to open.
Of course, the NFL is pushing ahead due to the incredible $$$ involved. However, it really as stupid to consider a 2020 NFL season as “Open the Schools” is.

  46. 1sparkybuc Says:

The MAC is shut down with plans to try again in the spring. Smart move imo. By that time there will surely be vaccines available that have proven to be effective. It’s a game. It’s not life or death, or at least it shouldn’t be. It’s a delay, not a cancellation forever. Not everyone dies, but nobody knows what lifetime effects might be. It’s simply not worth the risk, and hopefully this time I won’t have my post deleted for saying so.

  47. BigHog Says:

Let the voices be heard !!!

  48. SufferingSince76 Says:

Big Hog, yeah I know what you mean. However, most of us use sports as an escape from the world, including politics. Obviously, since you’re all grown up now, you are free to say and do what you want. I’m just asking for a little break from it. Is that too much to ask for a football fan site?

  49. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Stpetebucsfan, you have proved my point for me sir. The total deaths is not 5.01 million…. its 162k. I too can Google, however I read the words under the number. Google it now, I’ll wait. 5.01 million cases….cases not deaths, again cases. So let’s check my math. 162k times 225 is 36.45 million. Like I said the average American thinks it’s about 225x higher deaths than there actually are. Google the study, I’m not lying, your just like the average American, thinking 5 million have died. No need to apologize sir, your a product of the fear mongering, I’m sorry for you my brother.

  50. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Stpete, I can see how you misinterpret that though the way they put it on the google page is intentionally misleading, but I assure you sir, the Bundy is 162k deaths… the study is here, as well add many other non biased sites:

  51. bucsfaninOregon Says:

FT Meyer, good for you for correcting false info. 5M is far worse than 160K for deaths. I hope that you call out all such inaccurate behavior, whether or not it favors your opinion. Such as the Dear Leader insisting the US has the “best” numbers for deaths- -way ahead other industrial nations. Turns out we have apparently the lowest deaths per case. Very nice stat, but would you not expect we would treat infected people better with our gigantic health care system. What we are the “worse” of is number of cases (5M) and deaths which are projected to hit almost 300K by the end of 2020.
What should be alarming to you Trumpanistas is the growing correlation of new cases in Red states vs. Blue. One small example is the Blue state of Oregon has 1/5 the population of Florida. Yesterday’s new cases out here was 376. Did I say that Florida’s was 8,502?
We are almost universally wearing masks outdoors and indoors in my small 10 K town. You?

But that actually emphasizes my point even more. Our death toll is 160,000.

@Big Hog: when Trump pulled the plug on China, your kind was calling him a rayssis and even Pope Fauci was saying CV19 was not a big deal. Hell, at the time even de Blasio was pimping big crowds and parades. So Trump is hardly the only politician to not go all-in, China or Europe or wherever. Things would have been back to normal by now at least here in the states . Obama and Bush had people in place for pandemics and they put a lot of money into it for just in case but Trump got rid of it . And he made the pandemic political . And let me say this I have never understood why poor people vote for the republican party they vote against them selfs . The republican party don’t care about them . And when I say poor I’m talking about people who have to work for their money . Rich people money works for them . If us the hard working Americans in the country would come together we make a lot of changes in the country and make more money . But the problem is both parties devide us and race plays a major part of it .

  60. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Oregon, yes I wear my mask even though me and about 10 other co workers had it back in may. Only 1 had symptoms and that was a fever for a couple days, but we all got tested and many had it. I never had any symptoms myself. As far as trump goes, you can’t really take anything he says seriously, he embellishes everything. The only thing he’s right about is that the world is full of fake news today from all sides and all parties. We live in a world where everything is edited and twisted to fit their own narrative. Just got to do the best you can sifting through the bull to get the truth. As far as the sickness, Wear a mask and be cautious is all you can do really. You gotta take care of you and yours at the end of the day. Im in Miami the last 6 months now working and it’s business as usual here except bars are closed. I mean people aren’t going for a lockdown here and it’s hard when it’s a huge destination for business and pleasure alike. Another lockdown isn’t gonna fly here so as callous as it sounds, it is what it is.

Joe – 4 years is a very pessimistic outlook for a vaccine when several large companies have made it through phases 1 and 2 and are into the final phase 3 test. Add to that the financial commitment each has made. Pfizer, for example, has committed to producing 100 million doses of its vaccine, before it knows the effectiveness of its vaccine in the phase 3 trial. The sales price to the U.S. government is $19.50 per dose. If their vaccine doesn’t meet the minimum 50% effectiveness requirement Pfizer will have to throw away the 100 million doses, and it won’t get paid.

After a vaccine is put in place it may take 4 years for us to put aside masks and social distancing; was that what your source was referring to?

  64. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

This is straight out of the CDC website.

“In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946–July 27, 2018. In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks.‎

“One study evaluated the use of masks among pilgrims from Australia during the Hajj pilgrimage and reported no major difference in the risk for laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infection in the control or mask group. Two studies in university settings assessed the effectiveness of face masks for primary protection by monitoring the incidence of laboratory-confirmed influenza among student hall residents for 5 months. The overall reduction in ILI or laboratory-confirmed influenza cases in the face mask group was not significant in either studies.

“Study designs in the 7 household studies were slightly different: 1 study provided face masks and P2 respirators for household contacts only, another study evaluated face mask use as a source control for infected persons only, and the remaining studies provided masks for the infected persons as well as their close contacts. ‎None of the household studies reported a significant reduction in secondary laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the face mask group‎.

“Disposable medical masks (also known as surgical masks) are loose-fitting devices that were designed to be worn by medical personnel to protect accidental contamination of patient wounds, and to protect the wearer against splashes or sprays of bodily fluids. There is limited evidence for their effectiveness in preventing influenza virus transmission either when worn by the infected person for source control or when worn by uninfected persons to reduce exposure. Our systematic review found no significant effect of face masks on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza.

“Proper use of face masks is essential because improper use might increase the risk for transmission. Thus, education on the proper use and disposal of used face masks, including hand hygiene, is also needed.”

The last part here tells you that reusing masks is far more dangerous than no mask.‎

The study in whole literally says that science has not comfirmed that facemask use prevents or reduces transmission of influenza.‎ Of course, influenza and coronavirus spread the exact same ways.

They want us wearing masks so badly, that if anyone could demonstrate the usefulness of doing so, it would have already been demonstrated. All wearing masks does is make mask manufacturers money, and demonstrate your willingness to take useless orders from government functionaries–otherwise known as virtue signaling.

Don’t get me wrong, I put on a mask when I have to just to avoid conflict, but I hate myself every time I do so.

We are being forced to wear masks for one reason, and that is to see how much we are willing to put up with before we push back. Plus, it actually will help spread the virus because no one is using masks properly. The more it spreads, the more fear they can fluff up, and the less resistance there will be to the forced vaccination, which is literally a DNA editing shot to create genetically modified organisms.

Instead of debating football or not, black lives matter, and the rest of the manufactured crises the news tells us to worry about, we should be wondering why our government is lying to us about the usefulness of masks and the real danger of this virus, and why the government is discussing forcing us to take any “medicine” against our will, especially medicine pushed by a guy (Bill Gates) who is neither doctor or scientist, and another guy (Dr Fauci) who is professionally and financially conflicted (funded by Bill Gates and also owns 1/2 interest in the vaccine patents that he is pushing).

Every time we get sucked into a debate about masks, or whether or not they should play football, we are doing what they want us to do, and taking our eye off of the real issues.

It takes 4 to 5 years to build natural immunity. It’s not going to take 4 years to get a vaccine. That’s for sure. This is a globa pandemic and they’re working on getting a safe vaccine out as fast as they can, while countries like China will put out the first thing that remotely works without proper phased testing.

So I read the CDC article you mentioned a couple of months ago and again tonight. It is an interesting read even the authors in the article state: “Most studies were underpowered because of limited sample size, and some studies also reported suboptimal adherence in the face mask group”.

It is clearly not the only study out there. I suggest we all read some more.

Other studies done by medical researchers do show masks are beneficial. Those studies can be seen on the CDC website, Pubmed website or JAMA website.

For instance, one study showed that despite 2 hairdressers being infected for 8 days and 5 days and then giving cuts to 139 different people, none of the 139 people ended up getting the virus. That study supports that mask requirements for both the customer and the hairdresser actually did make the difference in limiting the spread of the virus.

I would ask you Bushs Coke Spoon to also consider that the study is on influenza. It seems to me that the death rate of people who get the flu and who get Covid are similar.

However. early evidence suggests that the spread of the infection rate of Covid is 2.5 to 4 times that the spread of the flu.

That is different. It creates a many more people getting Covid-19.

In three press conferences in April, POTUS said that the it appears that the worst of the deaths of COVID-19 are over and that we will be under 100,000 deaths from the “China virus”. In fact all three times he said that he thinks that we will eventually be at about 60,000 deaths.

Sir, you should know that our own government has waived, for the first time I am aware of, the normal animal studies that any new medication in the US is supposed to be subjected to before human trials begin?

Did you know that our government also waived placebo-controlled trials for this new generation of vaccination that has never before been used?

They are going to edit our DNA, creating genetically modified organisms out of HUMAN BEINGS. They are going to do this without the requisite animal safety studies, and without the requisite placebo-controlled trials. Why is there such a rush to do all of this over a virus that is literally no more deadly that getting the flu?

Yes, individual studies were limited in sample size, but taken cumulatively (and these aren’t the only ones available), they present a result that is consistent across the board. Also, sub-optimal adherence is the norm. Did you watch Spence fiddling with his mask? Every time he touched it, he should have washed his hands or changed his gloves. Who does that outside of a hospital setting?

“Other studies done by medical researchers do show masks are beneficial. Those studies can be seen on the CDC website, Pubmed website or JAMA website.”

Unlike the study that I cited, those others have conclusions which employ words such as “may”, “probably”, “apparent”, etc. They are not conclusive nor are they science. There are theories and there are proofs. Most of what they “conclude” are still theoretical. Like “scientific consensus.” Wonderful sounding buzzword, but science is not done by consensus. Scientific conclusions must be repeatable experiments or they are not science at all. Consensus is nothing other that a bunch of intersecting opinions.

If I missed one that is actually conclusive, please enlighten me.

The conclusion in that report uses the words “may have.” It was not a scientific study. You know how we were always taught that you should stay home if you are sick? These chicks weren’t sick yet. When they got sick, they stayed home. Just because we were originally told that asymptomatic people were “spreaders” didn’t make it true, and has since been debunked. The ONE anecdotal report that “asymptomatic spread” was based on was proven to be based on flawed data. But just like the MSM always does, once they report something that they want to be true, they will always treat it as fact no matter what.
    ====================

“early evidence suggests that the spread of the infection rate of Covid is 2.5 to 4 times that the spread of the flu.”

This is to be expected, as there are no antibodies to this particular strain in the community yet. Also, don’t forget how much the numbers of infections and deaths have been fraudulently inflated.
