Why Coaches, Execs Shouldn’t Be Believed

July 30th, 2020

“Jason, next I’ll tell’em we don’t need another edge rusher.”

Joe often finds that his media brethren have social media temper tantrums, stomping their virtual feel like toddlers because a fan or a blogger or a talk radio guy says something that contradicts what a Bucs official told them.

It’s sad and funny at the same time.

Joe has a rule when talking to a team or league official of any kind. Don’t believe anything, at least not 100 percent, and certainly not before intense scrutiny of all angles, and always understand that what a guy says one day means nothing a day later.

Tuesday provided a fantastic example.

Bucco Bruce Arians hosted a news conference and was asked about the running back position depth, largely because rookie RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn is in The Sickness protocol and is yet to be cleared.

“We won’t make any adjustments to that position,” Arians said.

And 48 hours later, and future Hall of Fame running back LeSean McCoy is now a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.

Everything is fluid in the NFL. Yesterday’s truth is tomorrow’s fiction. This almost reminds Joe of when Bucco Bruce Arians said Ryan Fitzpatrick would be an asset. Joe’s not complaining here whatsoever. Coaches and GM’s feel compelled to play the game — one that’s been going on since the beginning of professional sports.

Joe’s quite confident McCoy is here for one reason: Devonta Freeman was too expensive.

Or maybe the team thought McCoy has a little more in the tank.

McCoy is here for only one reason……Joe

Damn good rule to live by, but I don’t limit it to coaches, team, or league officials.
Targeted misdirection isn’t limited to athletics

Per Sports Illustrated: McCoy’s deal will pay him the veteran minimum, helping the Bucs stay within the limit cap space they still have free…

That’s $1 million for one year. Doesn’t break the bank and adds an established player to a roster that could dwindle if other RB’s get sick. Altogether a good deal for him and for us.

Ha you are just now realizing you shouldn’t trust the liar Bruce Arians?

  7. Snook Says:

Why does the team have to show it’s hand?

You really are a bit cynical, Joe. And you, Ndog … well … 😣

It is just possible that getting Shady McCoy was already in negotiations before Vaughn landed in “the sickness” protocol. Maybe, BA really doesn’t consider it a move caused by Vaughn’s situation. (P.S. My speculations have just as much weight as yours, guys.)

    In BA I Trust.

  9. Sport Says:

NDog – this is the situation JW put himself in. Here’s a quote from BA that exemplifies why the debate still rages on.

Bruce Arians – “Is 5,109 (yards) good enough to win a championship? Or is it the 30 (interceptions) and whatever many fumbles losing the championship? So that’s where you go.”

And where we went is only the best QB to ever play the game!!! 💥

Did he lie when he said you play our brand of football or ship out when he….
    – Fired McCoy before the season started
    – Disciplined VHIII in camp last year
    – Fired VHGIII for lack of effort?
    – 100% committed to letting JW be JW all damn season long?
    – moved CG to slot and said his production would soar
    – Hire the best coaching staff since we won the SB

Looks like a lot of truth there to me. Holding players accountable for showing a SIGNIFICANT lack of improvement on game/team killing turnovers is NOT LYING!

I suppose the entire NFL is lying too, they didn’t want your guy on their team either. League minimum, 3rd stringer (possibly 4th stringer).

Big Hog with the race card in 3…2…1…

I would have loved to have Freeman, but if he’s looking for top 20 running back $, then he’s in for a long wait.

I think this is Bruce Arians last year so I hope we win the superbowl this year . He was the wrong guy and we let a 26 year old quarterback go with potential to get better for a 1 year coach.

  14. Sport Says:

One-Ill in your opinion who was the right guy if not BA? BTW the next head coach is already on this team. When BA does decide to leave the sideline, the option of him staying with the Bucs is likely. Perhaps President where he makes the hiring, firing decisions.

A 26 year with the dreaded ‘potential’. So sad for you guys. It must be like watching a movie hoping for a different ending, but no, it’s the same.

He has tremendous potential to make an off field mistake and get suspended or thrown out of the league, throw interceptions, lose the respect and trust of his fellow teammates, make an ass out of himself during rah-rah speeches and play baseball at a double or maybe triple A ball.

No thank you. We’ve had enough of that potential for the next decade.

Sport we should have never gotten rid of Raheem Morrice but we did and he was the last coach that got us to 10 wins . Lovie had the perfect plan for Jamies on developing him . He brought a running game even when Dirk wanted to throw the ball Lovie would say no . A running game helps ever quarterback . I will bring Raheem back if I’m the bucs .

  16. Sport Says:

Raheem had a miracle year and was dealt a crappy hand to boot. He has great energy. I’m sure he’s figured out hanging out with the players at clubs is not part of the recipe for success.

I hope he gets a shot somewhere.

The Bucs will be fun as hell to watch this year.! I hope you can find a way to enjoy it.

  17. Oneilbucs Says:

Sport I love football and the bucs but this year the only thing I’m going to really focus on is the defense . To me that’s our true identity and I want our defense to get back on top. A offense is not hard to build . A bad defense is what all losing team have in common .
