Talks Tom Brady

Legendary and recently retired Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia delivered a fascinating interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio this week.

Most of it was about offensive line play and scouting, but Joe especially noted how Scarnecchia answered a question about how his unit always managed to successfully block legendary Colts sack artists Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney when they were the Patriots’ biggest rivals.

“You better throw the ball fast, Tom [Brady],” Scarnecchia said, noting that was the key.

He went on to explain that Brady would immediately check to see if Freeney was winning off the ball against his left tackle, saying Brady had the ability to read that instantly and make the correct decision from there.

On the scouting front, Scarnecchia was renowned for picking the right guys, and he explained that a prospect playing the game in a consistently physically tough manner was No. 1 on his keys to NFL success. Scarnecchia was adamant that he could make any player more mentally tough, and that size was not that critical — no weight minimums on that front, he added.

When Scarnecchia talked about Brady in Tampa, well, the love just gushed and he noted that “I’ve got 20 years invested in that guy” and a great friendship.

“He’ll be the kind of player that he wants to be because he works at it,” Scarnecchia said.

    Get the ball out fast!

  2. Jean Lafitte Says:

I wonder if Donavan Smith would meet Scarnecchia criteria? Personally, I think he is soft, especially in the run game.

  3. Ed Kerber Says:

Screw adding players to this roster…get this coach!

  4. Buc4evr Says:

Situational awareness , Brady has it. Jameis not so much.

  5. Joe in Michigan Says:

Yes, there’s no salary cap for coaches. Pay this man!

We have a good variety of targets for Brady…I think our OL i trending in the right direction and Haeg even gives us the luxury of a little depth.

There is only ONE thing that can mess this up. That which shall not be discussed.

  7. FanO’Bucs Says:

BRADY WILL RUSH FOR 1,000 YARDS THIS YEAR

  8. Pewter Power Says:

Must be the Winston crowd here, There are no Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney types in this division and If we can handle Denver’s edge rushers we will be just fine against anyone

Don’t get thrown off by the mistakes, on balance, the good outweighs the bad.

If I am not mistaken the Bucs O’line gave up 47 sacks last season, that’s not just fine.

Sacks are actually a team effort. If the QB is indecisive and doesn’t really know where to go with the ball it makes the OL’s job that much tougher.
