Super Bowl Or Bust

June 28th, 2020

One goal

Since that glorious Sunday night in late January 2003 when Chucky hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy in victory, the Bucs have, at best, been a middling team.

They made the playoffs twice since, both one-and-done appearances with Chucky as coach.

Since Chucky left, this team has been a Rodney Dangerfield punch line in the NFL but for two seasons.

(“I bought a used car the other day and my wife’s dress was in the back seat.”)

Also since that night in San Diego when the Bucs were last champions, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady has had a career and a half.

Brady has won 27 playoff games since the Bucs last postseason victory. That’s no joke. Oh, and five Super Bowls along the way.

Since Brady knows record success, a question was asked on “Stay in Bed” last week, if the Bucs don’t win a Super Bowl, is it a failed season?

Dan Orlovsky thinks so. The former Bucs backup QB believes Brady never would have left the Belicheats like he did without thinking he could win a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay.

“The expectation is for Tom Brady and the Buccaneers to win the Super Bowl this year,” Orlovsky said on the weekday BSPN show. “Do we really think Tom Brady left the greatest organization when it comes to winning in the last few decades to go get to a wild card game, or to go win the divisional game or even just get to the NFC championship game?

“Anyone who says this that team just wants to make the playoffs, has not been paying attention to Tom Brady the past 20 years.”

Team Glazer is well aware of where the Super Bowl will be held in February and they sure got Brady with the hopes of at least playing in the same game.

Whether Brady still has enough gas left to push this truck to the finish line remains to be seen, but it should be fun to watch.

The goal is to win the Super Bowl EVERY year. The expectations should always be there.

Expectations need to be realistic too. In previous years the defense was atrocious and there was no chance of making the playoffs because of it. This year is different and not just cause of Brady. Gronk and Wirfs should help the running game. The defense should be stout. Shaq, JPP, Vea, Suh, LVD, and D White along with the rookie safety should be a force to be reckoned with. The real key will probably be if our young CBs can continue to improve. If they do SB is definitely a possibility.

Off topic: Has the league or anyone, suggested how the 2021 draft order would be arrived at, if there is no 2020 season?

Keeping it the same would seem the most logical but, an unfair advantage for the Bengals, Redskins…etc. A lottery may be the only other semi-far alternative I can think of.

    *semi-fair

The Glazers are out of Schlitz. They know it. Fans know it. People who aren’t fans know it. Without doing something huge this year like SB or deep into the playoffs, fans will wane yet again. Consider that no matter what, the Bucs are probably at least (probably considerably better) a 9-7 team. So (hopefully) they very likely won’t be drafting pure star power as new QB or edge rusher next year. If they are top 10 next year going into the draft, would mean this season too is lost. They need to break some very unfavorable stats this year. Period.

Sad to think of, but what is quite possible is they start off 5-2, 6-1 even, and the season gets suspended due to COVID; Brady packs it in, and it’s rebuild again for 2021.

I hope that everyone will seriously consider wearing a mask in public to increase the chances slowing down virus growth, and the chances of having a somewhat normal season. We all bear the consequences of each others decisions.

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

Brady is sayin and doin all the right things. smiling his a.. off because he knows, whether there is a season or not, most of his cash is guaranteed unlike many other players. Glazers got duped on this one.

  8. Buc4evr Says:

I’m not worried one bit about Brady. If anything keeps from reaching the SB it will be our secondary, running game or worse yet another season of lousy kicking.

  9. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

2003? We won a Superbowl in 2003 too?

  10. gp Says:

    My question is…
When we are playing in the Super Bowl, Will they let us fire the cannons?

  11. Buc1987 Says:

Might still not have fans in the stands in that SB at Ray Jay…

  12. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Danny Oh…best known for rolling out the back of the end zone…is now an expert? Cool. The season is on shaky ground sad to say. Ira The Prophet/Sage may indeed be right…again. Jinxed the Favre signing with a false start and suggested a season in peril. 😉 Dang you Irv!

  13. Youngbucs Says:

Mike Johnson you never say anything positive. Get that bum nuts out you’re mouth. The glazers have been duped for 5 years. By a QB who smiled and said all the right things but did neither on or off the field. And bank like what 50-55 mil what I’m I missing?

“2003? We won a Superbowl in 2003 too?”

    It was played in 2003.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I agree. I there is a season this year, we will have homefield advantage in the Superbowl.

  16. Craig Says:

Oh, hell, yes. Take us all the way.

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

Mike Johnson- Why the negativity? Isn’t it safe to say that we can build off of last season’s offensive success with a superior QB? Would it be wrong to be optimistic about the development of our defensive players as opposed to previous years?
    Why then?
    Better yet, why not?!
Try some positivity dude! Either you’re a fan or you’re not.

You may be correct about no fans at the SB. IMO it’s hard to see how the 2020 season won’t always be 2020*
