Vincent Jackson Advises Patience

Talks Tom Brady and the new Bucs

Vincent Jackson saw an awful lot during his 12 NFL seasons, the very best of which came with Josh Freeman slinging him the rock in 2012.

Jackson lives in Tampa and has many business interests in town. He’s involved with military-related charities, and his efforts in that area led him to a Memorial Day-related interview on WFAN sports radio in New York last week.

Joe was listening when Jackson was asked about Tom Brady and the hype surrounding the Bucs. And while Jackson said he can’t wait to see the new-look Bucs on the field, he is skeptical about what versions of Brady and Rob Gronkowski the Bucs bought, especially when it comes to durability.

“That’s the biggest thing that I’ve been telling people, is that fact that expectations are so high. And these guys, No. 1, you have an aged Brady, who can still play at a high level. And then you have Gronkowski who historically has had injury problems,” Jackson said.

“The expectations of adding these two pieces, yeah, it’s good on paper. It’s good buzz, but how does this really, you know, play out? We don’t know. We just gotta be patient. We gotta trust Bruce Arians to just continue to build a program and a culture in that team. And we’ll see. We’ll see how the cards lay out.”

Jackson usually talks in cliches and is very positive about anything related to players, so Joe was surprised to hear skepticism.

Patience? Sorry V-Jax, you can’t sign Tom Brady in his 21st year and be patient.

Jackson added that protecting Brady should be the Bucs’ top priority because Brady should be a consistent “top-5 passer” without turnovers, if he can hang in the pocket comfortably.

A couple of noteworthy nuggets from Jackson, who began his career with the Chargers, included him saying Philip Rivers screams and yells and gets fired up leading his team but absolutely never utters a curse word. And Jackson, 13 years later, remains in a state of disbelief that Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer was fired after going 14-2.

He called Schottenheimer “a beast” of a head coach and a Rivers a “gosh-darnit kind of guy.”

There is no tomorrow with a 43 year old QB. This team has been irrelevant for over a decade! IF the playoffs do not happen flush every thing.

And there it is. The ‘let’s start over’ viewpoint. Never, ever works, and fans completely lack the patience for it. Yet every year, the same people want it with old or new usernames.

Just to be clear, flushing it means getting rid of every good player, including Vea, Barrett, Marpet, White, etc.

I actually miss Vincent Jackson. He was a team guy, a leader and a hard worker.

I also miss Automatica Gramatica and ‘Run, Michael, Run!’

    He’s pretty spot on.

Love me some V-Jax! One of the best free agents this team ever signed. Shame we were never able to get him into the playoffs.

And there is the view point of no accountability. A GM that has been here 7 years and has no playoff appearances. A coach that is a QB whisperer and doesn’t fix int’s. A coach who said the Bucs have more talent than the team in Arizona he took over (10-6) and takes the Bucs 7-9. Twelve years since a playoff appearance and patience is asked for? How can you keep a GM and a Coach and 30 coaches for that matter if we don’t make the playoffs???!!!(Notice I didn’t say win the division or a Super Bowl) If this team does not make the playoffs FLUSH this regime. Oh and they still really have not solidified a backup QB , a Kicker (who personally lost at least 2 games) and a RB. Enough with patience! Give me competency!
