The Pitfalls Of Virtual OTAs

May 21st, 2020

Adjusting to virtual OTAs.

As we all know, life has been turned upside down for just about every human thanks to The Sickness.

OTAs and minicamps have been wiped out for Bucs players, and the NFL as a whole. Therefore, the NFL and the Bucs have turned to virtual OTAs. Learning and working out in Zoom classrooms.

For Bucs linebacker Devin White, who doesn’t live in a metropolitan region, virtual OTAs are a hurdle to overcome.

White mentioned how he sees teammates on social media who have pretty much their own fully-stocked gyms in their garages. He doesn’t.

The Bucs, White said today, wanted him to use certain weights for workouts and he didn’t have them. The personal trainer he often works with is a 45-minute drive away each morning (White didn’t say if its a one-way trip or not).

White tried to buy more weights, but like toilet paper and disinfectant wipes, stores were out of stock so the Bucs had to ship him weights. Then, White built a makeshift gym in his barn. Even then there was a problem.

“I’d say the hardest part about the virtual thing is when I am working out now is finding somebody to record the workout to send in,” White said. “I have to prop my phone up somewhere and make sure it is getting [the angle] to send in.”

And that can be a trial and error. Not cool to workout and record yourself and then find out half of what you did was not in the frame. That workout is pretty much wasted from the Bucs’ perspective.

Another thing that irked White about virtual workouts and virtual OTAs is he’s used to learning something in the classroom and then immediately taking it out on the practice field.

There’s no practice field now, at least not sharing a practice field with teammates.

“I’m missing walk-throughs at full-speed,” White said.

Smh. Love the kid on the field but some of these youngsters just don’t have simple problem solving skills. It’s not Rocket Science.

  6. ModHairKen Says:

Why does he have to send in a video of his workouts? Do they not trust him?

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Well, at least we know Devin is honest…….not trying to hide his solvable problems.

  8. Bojim Says:

It’s been happening for a while now Devin. Figure it out. You went to college!

I understand that his horses are his family and his life away from football.

But as James West started us off…ALL of these guys have enough $$$ to do stuff!

Some even have private jets…ALL have access to them so travel is not the issue.

Devin is happy at home. I wish however he would pull a Brady and relocate.

He could find plenty of “gentleman” horse farms just over the Bridge in Manatee County priced VERY reasonably. He could then bring his “babies” to Florida.

I always respect people who are tight with animals. Animals KNOW.

Bojim. As a Bama, fan, I respectfully disagree that he went to college. But, gotta give props to LSU for being the best in the nation last year and White is gonna be a beast!! it was when he and JPP got healthy that our defense improved.

Note, my college degree taught me not to capitalize the first word of my final sentence of a post.

    Dr.

Like you I enjoy self deprecating humor. I do far more than miss caps.

My biggest crime now that I’m older is with homonyms. If I wasn’t so lazy and proof read carefully I am educated and know the difference between there..they’re..and their. But I frequently conflate them if I’m typing faster than I’m thinking.

I dunno, but when I had horses..heaving tons of baled hay was a pretty decent workout. So was mucking stalls.

Lol cmon now he has to be smarter than this…. Order the gear online and buy a camera and mount it?

you would think there wouldn’t be a shortage of young women interested in recording his workouts for him.
