Report: Bucs To Open Season In New Orleans

May 7th, 2020

2:44 p.m. UPDATE: There’s now a hard schedule leak rumor from a solid source.

Nick Underhill has been a Saints and Patriots beat writer over the last decade (currently Saints) and he’s Twittering this afternoon that Tampa Bay and Tom Brady will square off on opening day, Sunday, Sept. 13 at 4:25 p.m. (See below)

This flies in the face of the John Clayton report yesterday that claimed all NFL teams would face their AFC opponents through Weeks 1 through 4 of this season. That alleged NFL move was to give the league flexibility if those games had to be cancelled, then the integrity of the conference scheduled could be maintained.

We’re less than 6 hours from an official answer.

Joe loves all this stuff. Joe can almost smell the grass at training camp.

UPDATE: USA TODAY is reporting the Saints will be in Tampa on Sunday Night Football — Week 9, Nov. 8.

Disappointing that will not be one of the night games. I mean how many better, more intriguing games will be taking place that weekend.

  2. Desert Bucs fan Says:

I to can smell the grass. Great way to start the season.
    GO BUCS

  3. D-Rome Says:

I predicted the Bucs would open against the Saints but in Tampa. I was close.

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

So much for the report yesterday about AFC vs NFC the first 4 weeks.

  5. ClodHopper Says:

Noooooo!! This isn’t what we voted on. Not prime time. Not at home. Not at 1.
    I hate 4 o’clock games.
I hope John Clayton is the one that’s right on this one.

  6. JGhotier Says:

Come on Turkey Day Bucs game. That’s what I’m hoping for the most. Not only is it the best Holiday of the year, it’s the best season and time of the year. What would make an already great day (full of “F” words; fall weather, football, food, family, friends, etc.) and time of the year better than having our beloved Bucs play a football game on that day. The Bucs and the NFL being the “giving” part and us Bucs fan doing the “thanks(ing) part to complete a beautiful Thanksgiving Day!

  7. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

And Texas @ LSU the day before in Baton Rouge. I smell road trip!

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Be nice to have an encore from 2 years ago….

  9. Robert Says:

puhleeeease let them start their backup.
    LOL

  10. lokog Says:

I hate having to wait till the afternoon to watch the bucs play

  11. JP09 Says:

Playing the saints at NO wouldn’t be a bad thing in week one. If the game is played on the expected start date that means a small crowd or no crowd. It will also favor Brady and our Offense because no one is sure what the offense will look like exactly, the Saints will have no film on the Brady lead Bucs. I also don’t see this happening though, an AFC team makes to much sense for contingency purposes

  12. Buddy Says:

LOLOLOL Bucs could sign GOD and still not get the limelight, why? Because its a loser franchise & in 2 years they will be right back in contention for worst fan attendance in the league. Enjoy Tom’s Florida vacation. hahaha

  13. Bird Says:

Saints tend to struggle in week one

  14. Darin Says:

    Jp
Breathe. There will be fans at games. Not people like yourself though it appears. Watch em on tv with your gloves and mask on.

  15. simeon Says:

The reason this is week 1 is so that the NFL can ensure this game actually happens with a high fans at the game before the world gets shut down again.

  16. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Lots of camera time of Jamyth on the sidelines…

  17. SC Bucs Fan Says:

You want to be the King you have to beat the King. Set the tone week 1 and show who are the new owners of the division.

  18. Tye Says:

Buddy – it was either possibly next 2 years of winning seasons OR keep on sucking as the past 10 years has proven…
You can stay stuck in the past, where you aren’t, OR live in the present and enjoy it while you can… Your choice… Sit there and sulk if you want to and miss out on a MUCH improved ride!

Let’s win these 2 years and then no one can predict who our QB will be then…

  19. miken Says:

Man, the opener at New Orleans 2 years ago was some much fun!!!! I think it was the highlight of the Jameis era.

  20. Bird Says:

Its crazy that we have all these pathetic jameis cult members who are all doom and gloom
Rooting for bucs to struggle …lose against saints…repeatedly claiming the season is cancelled and laughing about it. Claiming if bucs dont win a super bowl its a wasted pick up of brady and gronk
    😂

Jameis wasnt close to winning 1 playoff gAme. He won 4 out of 10 games …whoop tee do
    Keep rooting for the Noles
Keep rooting for jameis on his new team the saints with his HOFer contract 1.1 mil.

  21. Elita Vita Says:

Well, it’s still a complement. Less games are scheduled at the 4-4:30 p.m. slot so that more of the nation can have it televised. Anyways, they are to play the Saints again later this year at home. Perhaps that game will be played at night

  22. JP09 Says:

    Darin,
I could care less about the China bug. All I said is it would benefit the Bucs if the social distancing guidelines aren’t relaxed or lifted completely. Fans or no fans the Saints still won’t have a any tape on the Brady lead Bucs and I only wear a mask and gloves when I’m with your wife so pipe down a bit tough guy

  23. Dewey Selmon Says:

Sean Payton has months to gameplan a small package of plays with Jameis. Payton seems like a spiteful person. Break a leg Sean, or we’ll do it for you. Again

  24. BlogTalkFootball.com Says:

    Buddy is a Saints fan…

  25. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Who cares?

  26. TampaTown Says:

What happened to only NFC vs AFC no division games the first 4 weeks?

  27. TampaTown Says:

    Dewey :
That’s awesome dude. I actually saw him go a$$ over teakettle on the sidelines. If he was a horse, we’d have had to shoot him and his broken leg 😂

Buddy needs to get over being stuffed in a garbage can by bucs players. I think they stole his lunch money too.

  29. Kobe Faker Says:

“There is absolutely no one in the NFL that knows the weakness of the Bucs offensive line than

    Dennis Allen

No one will attack that offensive line like him”

Are you just smelling grass? Does it smells like burning leaves? Fire it up Joe let’s get the football party started.

  31. WestChap Says:

Works for me… no better measuring stick than the reigning division champs. Let’s see how this team on paper plays on the field.

  32. PUGS&BUCS Says:

I’ve seen three different “credible leaks” regarding the schedule. All three of them are different.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

…and the award for the game most likely to be delayed by a hurricane goes to…

  34. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    Daily reminder,

Dennis Allen is an overrated hack that gets by on high end talent alone. He isn’t much of a DC. Don’t overrate him.

Game 2: 8:20 pm ESPN (MNF)
    Game 3: 8:30 pm NBC
    Game 4: 8:00 pm Amazon/NFL (TNF)
    Game 5:…etc, etc…

No sleep for Bucs fans this season.

  37. Miketb19 Says:

That’s going to be a huge game if we can go into the Saints house week 1 and knock them out to start the season that way would be gigantic I mean what better way could you start the season and break in Tom and Gronk that would be crazy but what I don’t get is how is this not the first Sunday night game of the season whoever gets that slot better blow my mind

  38. SB Says:

One thing is………….If Jameis starts for the Saints we should have at least 4 picks with one Pick6!

  39. JP09 Says:

SB, that’s incorrect we would be doomed if that guy starts because he is better than Brady and Brees…..

  40. EA Says:

Where is Sean Salisbury to straighten out the professor

  41. EA Says:

I’m sure Tom Brady can duplicate what Fitz did to the saints opening day a couple of years ago and more.

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Playing a Gulf Coast team or even a Florida team at home weeks 1-2 is a mistake. That’s when we’re at highest risk of Hurricanes…NO included.
