Bucs Projection: Wild Card Berth

May 14th, 2020

Bucs coach Bruce Arians.

Just like the announcement that Big Storm Brewing is coming out with a classic lager, the news that the Bucs signed park-violating, home-invading quarterback Tom Brady sent Bucs back fans to the moon, giddy with excitement. Playoff games dancing in their heads.

And why not? Brady is nothing but a winner and the Bucs were a dominant loser in the Lost Decade.

Bucs fans aren’t the only ones who believe the Bucs are now playoff-bound. So too does Nate Davis of USA Today.

Davis made his annual summer projections for each NFL team. The Bucs, Davis thinks, will have their best season in 10 years. It won’t be good enough to overcome the slimy Saints, though, who Davis calculates will win the Super Bowl.

However, the Bucs will be one of three NFC South teams playing meaningful January games.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-6): QB Tom Brady’s arrival has made them the league’s unexpected darlings, ones boasting a franchise-record five games in prime time. Could take time for a new offense – it’s assimilating unretired TE Rob Gronkowski and rookie OT Tristan Wirfs and RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn – to jell. But even in a highly competitive division, the Bucs appear to have ample firepower to end a 12-year playoff drought and make a serious push beyond that.

Joe expects the offense, much like when Chucky first came to the Bucs, will be a work in progress. With no offseason to speak of, it will take the Bucs a good chunk of the season to get fully on the same page. Meanwhile, the defense will play solid ball and give the Bucs offense just enough slack to get by and win close games without burning up a scoreboard.

I will always root for the Bucs to win the Super Bowl but I think SF will be there this year. They significantly improved a roster that was a handful of plays away from winning it all.

  2. El Buco Realisto Says:

And if Ole stale biscuit does not make the playoffs???????? And when bruce arrogance blames everything else for not making the playoffs, what will the sheep say then????????? The ” real” fans see too many coaching mistakes, and lack of attention detail that lead to the bucs being THE most penalized team in the NFL in 2019!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s time to herd the sheep, and put them back in the pen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Tye Says:

If the season even comes close to playing out like those predictions, it should be and exciting year..
Just extremely skeptical The Ravens win 13 games..

  4. Swampbuc Says:

Some of those teams projected to be in the top half of the league are going to stink it up. Happens every year. My prediction for biggest underachievers — the Texans. BOB is an egomaniac who thinks he’s Belicheat. Watch them win 5 games tops.

  5. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m thinkin Chiefs and Niners in the Superbowl.

  6. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

That’s all nice but USA Today’s projections are notorious for being laughed at come season’s end.

  7. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Mikestradamus strikes again!

They should print these projections onto some toilet papar!

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Bucs vs 49ers in the NFC Championship game.
Bucs vs Raiders in the Superbowl.
    May as well dream big!

  9. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Wild Card is NOT playoffs !….that and the goal is too low…how about NFC Champion as a goal !….only then do you have a real chance at the Super Bowl

  10. 813bucboi Says:

RAVENS VS BUCS in the SB!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. Cannon Says:

If we don’t make the playoffs with this roster, then we have no business being in the NFL.

  12. OBP Says:

7 teams are going to get in from both conferences going forward, I would argue that in terms of the NFC the Bucs are one of the 7 most talent filled teams, right up there with teams like the 49ers, Cowboys, Packers, Eagles, Vikings, and Seahawks. I’m seeing a Wild Card berth unless this team can prove to me that they can outperform the Saints.

  13. Dewey Selmon Says:

If we can’t make the playoffs with an extra wild card spot beginning this year heads will roll.

  14. Joe in Michigan Says:

Does anyone on here know El Buco Realisto? I’m trying to figure out if he/she is just a young punk teenager or was hit in the head with a shovel, or something. I don’t want to pick on him/her if that’s the case…I just don’t see a normal grown person making the comments that he/she does.

  15. Mike Says:

10-6 seems like a fair win/loss estimate, if not a little on the conservative side. The Saints are stacked and will be a problem, but I am hopeful the Bucs have the tools necessary to win and win big, it’s just a matter of whether they can get everyone on the same page with the recent acquisitions and whether the young players can be counted on and be consistent in their preparation and approach.

I am not sure, but at 5:25 in the video, I think i saw puppet strings. We need to digitally enhance the video to be sure though.

@joe I remember when you used to make fun of people that drank craft beers

  19. NDog is an idiot Says:

This guy has the Saints at 12-4. Not sure about that especially if NDog gets his way! Just heard NDog is on his new favorite Saints website claiming Brees should be second fiddle to JayMiss!!

  20. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

wow realist actually used to talk like a real person before he discovered conspiracy theories.

  21. Joe in Michigan Says:

    Tampabaybucsfan: Hahaha

I’m just trying to get to the issue of your problems, El Buco Realisto. Do you need help?

  22. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Joe in Michigan there are a lot of posters in here that need help. Wading thru them to get to intelligent conversation is getting harder by the day.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The Baker Act would help……as long as there isn’t Wifi……….

  24. Coburn Says:

The NFC for sure will be pretty strong and the fact we have two teams some people could be super bowl contenders means a darn strong division.

  25. stpetebucsfan Says:

“what will the sheep say then?????????”

Won’t we say what we always say? Baaaa Baaaaa Baaaaa

Meanwhile I think the chalk got in Mike Johnson’s eyes. What my father the bookie used to say about guys who jumped on obvious favorites..they love to play the chalk.

Hard to argue with Mike though…the Chiefs and 49ers are two teams to beat although personally I think the Saints are the most talented team in the league and the Ravens are not far behind. So there are four favorites. I think the Bucs legitimately belong in the next tier…not top 4 or 5 but definitely in the top ten.

Get to the playoffs and it’s a new tournament. Anything can happen if we get in.

  26. Joe in Michigan Says:

A real “sheep” is someone who would make comments under someone else’s name, El Buco Realisto got busted doing that a while back. Now that’s a true phony baloney.

    -That’s hilarious! 🐑 lmao baaaaaa

  28. TheBradyBunch Says:

Joe in MI as soon as I see his name I simply move on to the next post. He has added absolutely zero to the dialogue on here. Something about sheep, lots of exclamation points, blah blah blah. I don’t waste time on his dribble. My guess is that he has some menial, low paying job (thinking something like a janitor). Nobody even notices him so he comes on here to try and get attention as a troll. It is best not to give him the attention he is dying for.

  29. SOEbuc Says:

We haven’t had a decent coaching staff till last year. A HC made to build great QBs and the GOAT. Along with a staff of other great coaches brought in. Including a Bowels defense for a fast young secondary.

Tell you something the media hasn’t made public. Except for Nassib, front seven are returning and fast and hard. I can’t wait to see LVD and Mike Evans now they know they’re with a contender team. Nasty.

  30. Joe in Michigan Says:

TheBradyBunch: You’re right, I should just ignore him, but there are times when I like trolling the trolls, to give them a taste of their medicine. I guess it makes me as bad as El Buco Realisto, but I’m honestly just trying to teach this person some humility, and show them they should be embarrassed to post the same gibberish every day. What would happen if this person stopped hiding behind a keyboard and ran their mouth out in public? It’d be bad for EBR, IMO.

  31. The Coroner Says:

    He is close. I see 11-5. 👍🏻

  32. Buc1987 Says:

    10 wins and they’re in!

  33. Buc1987 Says:

Realist…stop getting everyone revved up. lol

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

I think that’s his function here at JBF…especially with TMAX MIA.

  35. Bradybru Says:

The Ravens and the 49ers two awesome threats this season.

  36. Bradybru Says:

Joe in Michigan I agree, half the verbiage some of these people say in this forum they would not dare to say face to face to someone. You are so on point.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs were 9-7 last year if Gay makes his kicks – and they’re 10-6 if the refs don’t do the screw job in Tennessee — and that was with having the worst defense in the league for half the season. I picked them, as soon as the season was over, to go 11-5 in 2020, so I’d certainly hope Brady can get them to that record. I do expect a bit of a slow start, so I’m not to worried if they come out of the gate sluggish, but I fully expect that they’re in full swing by late in the year. So I’m personally sticking with my 11-5 prediction, along with a deep playoff run. Anything else and the season is a failure in my mind — but to be clear, I’m expecting them to be very very good, just with a so-so start.
