When You Don’t Watch Games

A Bucs mistake?

There is this fellow over at Bleacher Report that has red ants in his pants over a Bucs defender. And his angst makes no sense.

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report has been irked all offseason because of Bucs defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh. Sobleski is convinced Suh is washed up and that the Bucs wasted millions on him last year, and made the same mistake this offseason.

Ndamukong Suh is still being paid like he’s the Suh of old. However, he hasn’t made a Pro Bowl or made an All-Pro team since the 2016 campaign. Even so, he re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a one-year, $8 million deal.

With only $14.37 million of remaining salary-cap space, the Buccaneers didn’t need to splurge on the 33-year-old defensive tackle. The team already re-signed Rakeem Nunez-Roches and could have further addressed defensive tackle in the draft.

Stop! “Nachos,” as his teammates call him, is a step above camp meat. He was a fringe player last year and the only reason he may see more snaps this year is that Beau Allen bolted to the Belicheats.

Anyone who tries to argue the Bucs are better off with Nachos than Suh has to be suffering the early stages of the [national advertisers don’t like that word].

Now if someone wants to nitpick Suh’s lack of sacks last season, OK. The Bucs will tell you they didn’t ask Suh to get sacks but wanted their linebackers to get sacks and for Suh to eat up blocks and clog the middle.

Feel free to believe if that is a sell job by the Bucs or not, but consider the Bucs pass-rushing linebackers, Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul, racked up 28 sacks between them (and JPP missed six games).

Additionally, Suh had the third-most quarterback pressures for interior linemen last year. And he anchored the NFL’s best run defense.

Trust Joe, the Bucs have made plenty of mistakes over the past 11 years beginning with firing Chucky up to and including those heinous uniforms the team is about to put out to pasture.

Signing Suh or even re-signing Suh isn’t one of those mistakes.

Agree 100% with your take Joe.
This dumbass didn’t watch our games.
    Suh is still a force.

  2. JP09 Says:

I’m glad Suhs back, but they still need to add a DL in the draft to provide depth. Raekwon Davis in the 2nd would be a nice

  3. QBKilla Says:

Agree Joe, Suh was solid last year and should be again. Devin White and Lavonte David will appreciate him returning as well.

  4. BigPoppaBuc Says:

And this dude gets paid to write this stuff? Unreal.

  5. Buc1987 Says:

They never watch our games….and I don’t blame them.

  6. Chris Cotten Says:

    Whatever Brent

  7. THETRUTH Says:

I bet this guy raved about JOhn Lynch as a GM , 49’s wanted to sign SUH and were ready to sign him before Brady changed his mind, so this shows other FOOTBALL people believe he still has the abilities. I trust Lynch if he see’s something still left to add him to that defense im sure we made a good decision.

  8. Matt Says:

Suh’s impact on the game isn’t quantifiable because when Suh is on the field the QB leans away from and runs away from Suh. Even if he doesn’t have pressure the QB pays some bit of attention to where Suh is at all times. Not only that but Suh raises the intensity of not only the defense but the entire team. His value extends off the field and into the locker room as well.

I wouldn’t know Brent Sobleski if’ he wore a pink tutu, but just because some nerd has a keyboard doesn’t mean he knows squat.

His post makes that clear. Suh is washed up? I spend more time watching coaches film after the game, and one thing I can definitively state is Suh tossing OL around like rag dolls is no “washed up.”

IMO, the Suh signing was just as important as JPP and Barrett for the TEAM.

    Sheesh…

Some of those bloggers at B-R are idiots.

And I despise casual fans who think stats are the only way to judge a player…

I only trust a few national writers when it comes to the Bucs. Sobleski and the vast majority of writers at Bleacher report are morons when it comes to their Buc’s coverage. Matt Miller is another one with a hard on for the Bucs. He basically said last year that Devin White’s career was doomed when he came here. He had an obvious bias against Jameis too.

I’m totally cool with Buc’s fans ripping on the team (I do it all the time) because they are invested and it means something to them. When national folks who are uneducated when it comes to our team do it, it pi$$es me off for some reason. 😜

  12. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

How much does this guy want to bet because of Suhsuhsuhwee on the line Vita Vea has a beast of a year? Having those two guys next to each other really pushed Vita’s game up

  13. Knuckle Sandwich Delivery Service Says:

Might as well get a job writing for BR. Apparently you can write anything and pass it off as insightful. That defensive line shut down every big name running back last year and the man beasts in the middle did their job well.

The guy has no idea what he’s talking about.

  14. Knuckle Sandwich Delivery Service Says:

Finally out of JBF quarantine. Thanks Joe.

  15. stpetebucsfan Says:

This guy is not well informed…at least about pay scale in the NFL for DT’s.

The top guys like Donald…are making more than TWENTY MILLION A YEAR…admittedly a short list of about three guys. Suh is earning less than HALF of what the stars own.

32 NFL DT’s are going to earn 10 million annually. Is Suh really not even in the top 32?

So while I agree Suh is perhaps not as good as he was in his youth…he still has plenty of gas in the tank and was a key cog in our defensive renaissance. And he’s a true bargain.

In all the mocks I’m seeing it’s usually either one of the big four OT’s…assuming they drop…a huge assumption…or the other half forecast us taking Javon Kinlaw. I’m good with either direction…Another 6-5 300+ guy in the middle to rotate with Suh and Vita would certainly cement our interior and for the foreseeable future.

If Suh was making 20 million I could take this guys’ point…the fact that we’re paying him less than the 10 million that 32 DT’s earn make me believe he’s a bargain.

  16. El Buco Realisto Says:

What a difference a year makes!!!!!!!! To see the sheep defend and talk about the value of Suh, when many just last year was singing the praises of She-mc93 exactly a year ago!!!!!!!!!!! Even the front office learned that she-mc had “no value”!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its years too late, but finally the sheep are admitting what a “real” DT value to the team, even in this late stage of his career!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Knuckle Sandwich Delivery Service Says:

Let us not forget that Suh brings a certain nastiness to the field that is infectious to other players. Defense has to be nasty. You’ll never hear Suh apologize for hitting a QB. And you’ll never see him playing dress up. He’s there to wreak havoc and stomp on some people if need be. Dirty player? Maybe Sometimes. But always a force and never a diva.

    Think Ray Lewis.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

Realist…you truly live in your own special kind of world.

“many just last year was singing the praises of She-mc93 exactly a year ago!!!!!!!!!!!”

    Who’s many?

  19. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

Suh with Vita in the middle is terror for any defense!!! Suh was a great resign… I watched him closely last year & nearly every game he not only kept the middle blocked up, he was always solid in the 4th quarter…. He may not be the pass rusher he once was, however, he is still a beast & i’m very happy that he is still a BUC…

  20. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @buc1987

    The sheep!!!!!!!!

Many have already changed their screen names!!!!!!!!!! But they all become too clear when they will try to crowbar and jam She-mc93 into that stupid ring of honor!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    And stay safe my friend!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. WestChap Says:

    Joe’s 100% correct.

  22. Knuckle Sandwich Delivery Service Says:

Just playing here for 9 years doesn’t get you into the ring of honor.

  23. Swampbuc Says:

    Idiots in the press abound.

    Brent Sobieski. Idiot.

  24. lowercaseg Says:

    he’s good until he’s hurt.

  25. Anonymous Says:

Completely agree with your assessment Joe. Suh not only was a positive factor on the field he was also a great locker room guy as well. Suh brings a certain mentality the team had been missing prior to signing with the Bucs.Joe can’t go there. The Bucs started 2-6 with an awful defense and were eliminated with three games to play. –Joe

  26. Clearwater Geo Says:

Such is still one of the elite DT in the game should of signed him 2 years ago to play next to McCoy. Solid angry DT

  27. Go Bucs 72 Says:

Suh is a beast that does exactly what he’s supposed to do in this defense. To say otherwise is foolish.

  28. rogertampabay Says:

when they give the number you wore for all those years away to your replacement, you arent getting into the ring of honor.

  29. LA Bucs Fan Says:

Bleacher Report actually pays this dude?

  30. 541BucsFan Says:

It’s why they say, “Stats are for losers.”

Kind of like saying a QB is great because he throws for 5,000 yards.

    Gotta watch the games.

  31. Bnice Says:

I stopped opening BR grading articles because they are always complete trash for every team.

  32. Destinjohnny Says:

I thought Suh played really solid.
It would have been nice to keep Nassab.
He was young and getting better.

I wish we could use our number 1 pick on d
I have this weird feeling we are getting Chaisson out of LSU

  33. westernbuc Says:

My problem is the McCoy haters who think that signing Suh changed the entire franchise. Our defense sucked until the second half of the year (when JPP came back) and we had a full pass rush.

And I don’t care how good we were stopping the run. If you can’t stop the pass you aren’t going anywhere in today’s NFL

  34. Adam Lakers Carolla Says:

“Nacho”, is but one man on the D line…nachos, is an appetizer.

  35. 2020 Year of the GOAT Says:

suh is a machine and worth every penny……….

  36. unbelievable Says:

    Nailed it here Joe!

  37. Defense Rules Says:

Bleacher Report just lost a lot of respect in my eyes for publishing this ludicrous assessment. And my level of respect for them was never very high to start with.

  38. David Says:

Absolutely they needed him back. Helps Vita too

  39. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Suh, combined with Vita Vea, makes it very hard to run on us.
