“So I’m Just Praying And Hoping That Was An Anomaly”

April 4th, 2020

A couple of weeks ago, when Shaun King broke his painfully long public silence on Bucs issues of the day, Joe wept tears of joy and savored every moment.

It even took Joe a couple of weeks to gain the composure to write up the words from King, one of only three quarterbacks to lead the Bucs to the NFC Championship game.

King talked to WDAE about the Tom Brady signing and expressed his excitement, fear and recommendation.

“He brings credibility, accountability, relevance. He brings accomplishment,” King said of Brady. “I mean, he brings everything at that position, and I played quarterback, that Tampa hasn’t really had. We’ve never signed a quarterback that’s as accomplished as Tom Brady. So the young players, the players that are kind if in the middle part of their careers, the players in the latter part of their careers are all going to listen to everything he says because his accomplishments are so significant.

“Now the only caveat to that is, this football is unforgiving. This game, and I love it; everything I have in my life, the majority of it, I owe to the game of football. You fall fast. Age happens overnight. It’s not a gradual occurrence.

“When you look at Tom Brady and his 2020 season, probably not his best season of note. So I’m just praying and hoping that was an anomaly and it wasn’t a sign that he’s gotten old.”

King went on to say a major Bucs priority should be fortifying the offensive line. Brady is inheriting much better receivers than what he had with the Patriots, King said, but “he’s also inheriting a worse offensive line.”

Brady has “very little functional mobility,” King added, so critical will be going all-in to upgrade the line. “If you can protect him, then I think he has a chance to make all of our dreams come true.”

Joe loves how King always talks about the Bucs, his childhood team, with the “we” pronoun.

Brady has proven very durable, but 43 (in August) is 43. Joe agrees with King, sports aging usually hits a player fast, regardless of the game, and the downhill slide is rapid.

Anything the Bucs can do to cut the odds of Brady getting injured is paramount. A stud running back would be a great place to start, too.

Shaun King has glowing reviews of Jalen Hurts as an NFL QB….see if you can find that …

Did they not, say the same thing about ole stale biscuit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7-9 losing schedule!!!!!!! And it was a soft schedule to boot!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Joe in Michigan Says:

Brady’s still in shape. The last time I saw Shaun King he looked like Booger McFarland.

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

This is why we must draft a beast offensive tackle first.

  5. Tampabuscsbro Says:

You know realist if it wasn’t for Winston’s meltdown it would have been 7-9.

  6. Natron Says:

Shaun King! Never a flashy QB, criticized by many as a game manager, Too bad Winston couldn’t protect the ball like he did

  7. Bucco bruce Says:

Who Is el buco? Why would you come on a buccaneers site and talk crap about the bucs when this could arguably be the best quarterback we’ve ever had. Everyone thinks there’s a good chance he might be too old.but when you get one of the greats it’s hard not to have a positive attitude if you’re a true bucs fan. Why not be positive and excited you shouldn’t even watch football. Go watch soccer!

  8. destinjohnny Says:

    Shaun isn’t stupid
I would love to have him in house vetting potential draft pics mindsets

  9. TheBradyBunch Says:

If it wasn’t for bad kicking and a blown ref call in the Titan’s game they would have been 10-6. Now why don’t you crawl back into your hole realist.

  10. Anonymous Says:

    LOL @ Joe in Michigan…

  11. Ed Says:

Why jump on King, he just voice, what everyone else is thinking. Everyone is looking to see the same Brady, they saw 10 or even 5 years ago. Age is not kind to anyone, sure your mind say you can do it but, old age says no.

  12. mark2001 Says:

If we draft the next franchise QB, it makes no difference.

I see it this way…Brady may or may not play like a franchise QB…but I do expect his to demand respect and get the most out of the cast of players.

And after all, we weren’t going anywhere with the QB we had last year. So it is a risk well taken.

  13. Ivan The Insider Says:

How does King say a quick running back will help Tom Brady the most, what about fixing a weak offensive line.

  14. Ivan The Insider Says:

How is acquiring a “quick” running back going to help Brady, try fixing a very weak offensive line.

  15. stpetebucsfan Says:

    “Anomoly??” Lol.

  16. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @bucco bruce

You want me to be positive????? Alright, you got it!!!!!!!!! If the Bucs don’t get results I AM “POSITIVE” That gm licht bulb and ole stale biscuit, will be shown the door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. crazyBucs_CL Says:

..this guy has had that big impact of loosing JW, that he has lost his mind…..
is nothing positive in his topics…. try to find ANYTHING possible negative/diminish to the fact of having Tom here…. unbelievable… childish … pathetic…

  18. El Buco Realisto Says:

I want to apologize for being so upset ealier. There are just so many Debbie Downers on here sometimes. We Have friggin Tom Brady.!!!! !!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!+

  21. MadMax Says:

Our O line ranked 7th last year, with a QB who held the ball longer than TB12 will. NE ranked 10th. I really dont think we’ll be that bad for him. Still, I hope we go OT first in the draft. Haeg provides great depth and a bridge to our new RT.

    per pff:

    7. Ryan Jensen and Ali Marpet anchored the middle of this Buccaneers’ offensive line and provided some of the best pass protection that we saw from any interior offensive line this season. The guard and center positions for the Bucs combined for an 80.4 pass-blocking grade this season, ranking second among all offenses around the league. Dating back to 2015, Marpet has the 12th-highest overall grade among 55 guards with 2,500-plus snaps.

    10. Tom Brady and the Patriots have looked vulnerable toward the tail end of the season, and that’s been especially true when defenses pressure Brady. Joe Thuney has played his role in making sure that doesn’t happen. His pressure rate allowed of 2.5% trails only Marshal Yanda and Richie Incognito among all guards with 250 or more pass-blocking snaps this season. With Isaiah Wynn returning from injury and replacing Marshall Newhouse, this is a line that has improved as the season has progressed.

  22. MadMax Says:

So how is Shaun figuring TB12 is inheriting a worse OL? I disagree!

Better O line (will be upgraded more in the draft), more weapons (about to get a few more in the draft, RB) and a faster twitch decision/faster release in TB12. Oh yeah, Im feeling real good about this!

  23. Tc Says:

If there is no season this year, will we still have Brady for 2 more years?

  24. El Buco Realisto Says:

Just draft the right tackle from Georgia, add a cornerback and fast running back that can catch passes out of the backfield and go to the Suuuper Boooowl.

  25. MadMax Says:

Dear imposter..If you really want to be me, then Pay My Bills!!

  26. Swampbuc Says:

Normally I roll me eyes when King speaks because it’s usually bitter tripe. That was awesome.

Ironically, Brady and Burger King are roughly the same age. If Shaun loved football and hard work more than partying and radio shows, maybe he could have had a ring with the Bucs. Give Jameis Winston that 1999 Bucs defense, he might have some playoff wins instead of being unemployed too.

  27. TheBradyBunch Says:

Anyone that watched Tom Brady this year saw a player that was a shell of his former self. If the Bucs have a chance to draft Jacob Eason within the first 3 rounds, we seriously need to do so.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    Swampbuc …King did get a ring….as a back up.

  29. Sport Says:

Shaun had some good traits and some bad ones. Nobody threw the ball backwards as much as that guy. I mean wth…. literally the ball would shoot backwards for 20yds. Brutal.

Brady is smarter, more accurate, a better leader and is more experienced/accomplished. This line will do its job for him, I have no doubt.
And he will make them better and make them look good.

    Go Bucs!

    In BA I Trust!

  30. Adam Lakers Carolla Says:

Joe in Michigan….same. I saw King on TV about ten years ago and thought, “Wow, Sapp really let himself go.”

  31. Bucs Guy Says:

Shaun’s allowed to say “we” when referring to the Bucs because he played for them. Most of us don’t have that right. We should vall them the Bucs, my team or my favorite team when expressing love or comradarie with this team. You’re allowed to use a lot of other terms when you’re mad at them.

  32. BrianBucs Says:

With the O-Line and recievers that Brady had last year in NE I’m surprised that he had as good of a season as he did.
Can’t wait to see how he does here next season.
As we all know, Father Time is undefeated.
However, he calls on some people much later than he does others.

  33. JimmyJack Says:

OMG King is so right!! Tom can make all our dreams come true. For fans like me who developed a instant mancrush he already did make a few dreams come true……..And a few hearts flutter too.

Like I do every night I was reading all about Tom. Did you know he has more then just GOAT as a nickname? It’s true.

You can also call him TB12, Tom Terrific, Touchdown Tom, The Pharaoh, Comeback Kid(from his Michigan days), or Sir……But I wouldn’t call him Tommy. Only his family Cal’s him that.

He might be Tom to fans like you but for a guy like me it’s Tooooo-oooo-ooooom.

  34. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Yeah he’s old and a drop could happen… But he’ll still be better as a game manager even than we’ve had in a long time and possibly even be the Brady of old for one more exciting season!! If we friggin have one!!! I’m really starting to worry they won’t have a season!! That would be so Tampa luck too!!! I’m originally from Tampa and I opened a business about a week before all this got really bad!!! That’s that Tampa luck following be wherever I go!!!! Lol

  35. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

StPete really you’re clowning him because he misspelled a word??? You used to be a pretty classy dude up here but now your true colors are coming out. The way you began to rip Winston on a personal level really showed what is really on the inside. You’ve put on a pretty good facade but the true you is coming out. If Trent Dilfer misspelled a word would you find it funny?

  36. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

MadMax if I’m correct Brady was sacked only 24 times and Winston sacked 47 times. Should have been more if it wasn’t for his ability to shake tackles. Please before you clowns get up here saying he held on to the ball too long that is part of Arians offense always looking for the deeper shots. Brady esx post of a quicker passing offense hence he was sacked less. That’s why he had a better line. If Arians doesn’t adjust his no risk it no biscuit mantra AND get better on the line AND get a running attack Brady with his tight hips is going to get crushed.

  37. JimmyJack Says:

Be a joke if the season gets played, the Bucs go 6-2 at the halfway point, Brady is an MVP candidate, and then the covid-19 comes back. (tee).

  38. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

BrianBucs that is the part that gives me alot of hope. In spite of Winstons seemingly infinite amount of turnovers and no run game he still helped us get to a 7-9 record. 10-6 could’ve been had if other parts of the team didn’t choke. There’s no way to see that with Tom Brady at the helm we’re can’t do better than 10-6

  39. Youngbucs Says:

David you’re a clown I swear u nut huggers shut up till Winston gets signed at least

  40. ©MadMax Says:

Great, now someone loves me enough to take my name….The Joes can check ip’s and know the real one

  41. MadMax Says:

And thats not the first time its happened…go get your own name stupid troll, smdh!

  42. MadMax Says:

People know me and know my style you fkn inbred troll….what happened? no time to please your woman (if you have one), no life, too fat and ugly with your little inch worm…mommy’s basement rules include no prosti’s?

  43. MadMax Says:

Alright, im not posting the rest of the night…still waiting on the Joes to approve my post with a symbol right before my name. Any other posts with my name wont be me…i’ll try again in the morning. My girl is a little tipsy and horny so…priorities 😉

  44. stpetebucsfan Says:

    MadMax

I feel your pain. Someone also used my name on this thread when it wasn’t me.

    “Anomoly??” Lol.

That was not my post at 6:48. Pretty pathetic that people feel the need to impersonate other posters.

  45. Jeffbuc Says:

4000 yards 24tds 8 interceptions and besides Julian Edelman who had the worse drop rate in football. And is in his 30s coming off knee surgery and having to give up the juice. Not one other receiver would have been a 5th on our team last year. Edelman would have been the 3rd possibly 4th b hind perriman. Who was he throwing to last year and still had 4000 yards. I don’t see this bad season everyone speaks of. The first 3 games when he had josh Gordon and had brown for a game his stats were 911 yards 7tds 69% in those three games with real receiver. So 303.5 yards a game 2.33 tds a game and no interceptions. Jameis Winston had 5 tds and 4ints first three and we were 1-2 Brady was 3-0 bring on an old effecient QBs who has us at 5-2 and looking towards playoffs as we put it all together. Versus the guy who has us at 2-5 then we get it together and win 3-4 in a row to break even. Could you imagine over the last 5 years when we always got hot in late October early November and would go 5-1 or 5-2. If we were 4-1 going in we would be a lock we don’t have to worry about being 1-4 or 2-5 any more we will be ready from game 1

  46. Proudbucsfan Says:

I’d still rather have Brady at 80% than most other quarterbacks at 100%. This team only needs to fill a couple holes to be elite and Brady knows it, that is why he’s here. Just think about that.

  47. 1sparkybuc Says:

Shaun King didn’t lead anybody anywhere. He was just along for the ride. No judgment here on his knowledge of the game, in fact I agree that aging can be a very abrupt fact of life with any job that depends on physical ability. Shaun King will never be a candidate for the ROH. As a player, he never rated mediocre consistently.

  48. Bucco bruce Says:

Tampa has not even had a good quarterback Winston was the closest thing ever. Some of that money that went to Brady is for teaching a Young quarterback to become a badass franchise quarterback. Jason should definitely draft one in the first or second.king sucks

  49. Pewter Power Says:

Our line is worse than patriots? Gtfoh Brady getting rid of the ball quickly is probably the only reason this crap king thinks that. Yeah we’ll have the same record again this year because we swapped Winston for Brady lol people stupid

  50. El Bucco Realisto Says:

I just wanted t apologize if I was offensive in my remarks earlier.

I am sorry if I called some of you real fans sheep.

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  51. Anonymous Says:

El Bucco Estupido, all your takes are dumb.

  52. kyle Says:

for all you millenial bucs fans.. shaun “smoothie” king saved our 1999 playoff run!! If it wasnt for the bullspit bert emanual call, he would of started a superbowl. i had season tickets in section 125 for 15 years, dilfer was so bad, we chanted for king to come in. When dilfer got hurt, he energized the team, late in the year. Love shaun king!!

  53. BringBucsBack Says:

Joe, what part of this take of King’s made you “cry tears of joy” and why? He warns of a possibly impending drop-off for OUR starting QB, due to age. He may very well be correct but, no real fan would “cry tears of joy”.

This only makes sense if you loved and missed his opinions that much or you are the Johnny-football-drafting, blindly-loving-Jameis Joe!? Do you feel vindicated somehow? Tom’s age is the biggest question to everyone who has a brain but again, …”tears of joy and savored every moment”!?

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The problem with NFL fans is that they usually only focus on the most recent season.

Tom Brady has missed superbowls in the past, then returned the following year. If anything, he has shown an ability to always rebound.

  55. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Shaun King is from right here in St Pete. I saw him recently, and was shocked at all the weight he has gained.

  56. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

JeffBuc you’re a funny little child but I’m no hugger just a moderate supporter of him. I saw the potential he has for this team unlike the incessant hateful people like yourself who hate him for more than football reasons. Now if you had higher intelligence and better reading and comprehension skills then you would understand I wasn’t hugging him I was acknowledging the truth that yes he did HELP lead the team to a 7-9 record. I NEVER said he did it all by himself unlike you all who claim he is the sole reason we lost so many games even though this is a TEAM sport. You see the problem with you haters is you can’t see past your red colored glasses so your hate won’t at least let you accept and acknowledge the good things he did for the team.

Now then if you had higher intelligence and better reading and comprehension skills you would be able to tell I am embracing Brady. If the Bucs did how they did INSPITE of Winstons huge amount of turnovers and inconsistent play then they’ll do much better with Brady at the helm. So please stay off your daddy’s laptop, go back to school and learn you some reading and comprehension skills little boy.

  57. Patriots fan Says:

I have been a Patriots fan since 2000 it has been a great ride when Brady got his chance took it and never looked back. You Bucs are very lucky to get to work with a great professional as Brady. If you can protect him and give him time with the offense line he will make the plays. Keep him safe he will get you into the palyoffs and into the super bowl. He’s that good he came back from 25 points in a super bowl a couple of years ago against the falcons. You have to believe in magic to make it work. I believe in magic and he is Tom Brady. Go Bucs

  58. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @DavidBigBucs

IF I had made that post I would have agreed with you completely. Being retired I get to post on three blogs. One of the first internet rules of posting is that people who point out misspellings and grammatical errors are diks.

I don’t know what we call jackwagon’s who use other posters names…which apparently happened to at least three of us on this thread. Pretty disgusting and intellectually bankrupt to think you’re going to get even or whatever by posting like a dik under somebody else’s name.

  59. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

JeffBuc I apologize to you sir its Youngbucs who needs reading and comprehension skills as well myself included. Don’t know why I thought it was you who called me a Jameis hugger. Guess call it impatience sorry man

  60. kyle Says:

haha, you two little girls arguing on a bucs blog are pathetic…

  61. Oneilbucs Says:

Brainbuc Brady had a number one defense also . You see everyone for get about that part . Brady has always had good to great defenses and even with a good running game and defense he has never blew a team out .

  62. Oneilbucs Says:

    In the superbowl .
