Drew Rosenhaus Speaks

Gronk’s agent talks Bucs trade.

New Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement for one simple reason.

Gronkowski wanted to play with Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.

Gronk’s agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus, appeared on “Late Hits” this evening, co-hosted by Gil Brandt and Alex Marvez heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio. There, Rosenhaus detailed how the Bucs’ trade for Gronkowski’s rights went down.

And unlike rumors Joe has seen on Twitter, Rosenhaus didn’t indicate that Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht was ordered by Brady to go get Gronk or that Gronk was part of a package deal if the Bucs signed Brady.

But Brady was a key figure, Rosenhaus noted.

“When Tom came to Tampa, that is when Rob was interested in coming back,” Rosenhaus said. “We reached out to New England to let them know Rob was interested in playing with Tom and suggested working out a deal.

“I know that the Patriots organization worked on that with Tampa. I think this was going on for some time based on our contact early on with the Patriots.”

Given Rosenhaus’ timeline, this all began shortly after the Bucs signed Brady. Two weeks ago when Licht was asked about Gronk and the rumors started by a dog, Licht joked that Gronk’s wrestling career was going well and Licht brushed off the question.

In fact, per Rosenhaus, Licht at that time was knee-deep in negotiating the trade with the Patriots.

Gronk has only one year (2020) left on his contract but Rosenhaus made it clear Gronk is very interested in staying with the Bucs as long as Brady is here.

Brady signed a two-year deal with the Bucs last month.

“I think things are going to go really well for [Gronk] in Tampa,” Rosenhaus said. “He’s going to enjoy playing in Tampa obviously with Tom Brady. I think he will be rejuvenated. I am just thinking out loud, I think if everything goes well, Rob might consider sticking around at least for the duration of Brady who has a two-year deal.

“And if Rob is healthy, God willing, and playing the way he is accustomed to playing, perhaps he will play another season or two. He is certainly young enough.

“I am sure [the Bucs] are hopefully he plays for more than one year as well.”

Rosenhaus believes everyone is a winner in this deal — Gronk, Brady, the Bucs, the Patriots and the NFL as a whole.

“It is a big night in the NFL,” Rosenhaus said. “It’s not very often you get a player like Rob Gronkowski to come back and re-enter the NFL and decide he wants to play again. And to see him play with Tom Brady is going to be really thrilling.

“Rob is one of the great characters of the NFL and he will bring a lot of entertainment both on and off the field. Just a great person and he does so much for the sport. It is wonderful to see him healthy again and feeling good about playing again and wanting to play.”

Rosenhaus noted Bucs fans should be geeked about this move.

“I don’t think anyone anticipated Rob playing this year,” Rosenhaus said. “Listen, I am an optimist. I am hopeful at a minimum, he will not only play this year but play out another year since Brady is going to be there. And I think he will enjoy playing for Bruce Arians.

“Rob is excited about going to Tampa for a number of reasons. Tom Brady is one of his best friends. I think everybody knows that. But he is excited about the opportunity to play in Florida. He has a home in Florida. He has a business in Florida and he spent a lot of time training in Florida. This is a really cool opportunity for him. Rob is just pumped.”

And so too is Bucs fandom.

This off season has been like no other! It feels like a dream or something will derail this potentially magic season or two!!

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Hopefully he will restructure with a 2 year deal which will allow Bucs to reduce his salary this year somewhat……if the money is guaranteed….I think he will sign.

Don’t know where the $10 mil will come from without some dealin’ goin’ on!!!

  6. Dom>Licht Says:

No off season work outs … possibly shortened preseason… out of football a year … yeah Gronk will be ready to play!

I grew up a 49-ers fan because I was from California. I moved to Tampa Bay in the 00’s. My oldest son was born the day after the Buc’s won the Super Bowl, and I have been a die-hard fan since. Paid for Sunday Ticket out-of-state in NC year after year losing and losing and losing, and for the first time, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????? LET’S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“You ain’t sh!tting, I never thought I’ll get the commission from that 10 mil. Sweezy and Chis Baker was right”

Gronk has not played full season because of injuries in years BUT a year off is going to make him the Gronk of old… really?

BOOM! Super Bowl in Tampa. Very interested to see what is going to see what happens on Thursday. This is big time addition to blocking and the need of a OT in the first half of the draft.

This makes me feel so much more confidant that Tom didn’t just come down here for $50 million to slack off before retirement. How can you not try to put in your all to win with all these weapons. Now let Tom pick his RB.

TOWN IS SOO F-ING PUMPED!!! TEAM IS SOO F-ING PUMPED!!!

    13-3/14-2

    GOBUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
