What’s The Hangup?

March 19th, 2020

“Jason, do we need to hire a translator for Tom Brady to get this wrapped up?”

Something is starting to smell fishy.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The coronavirus. Joe gets it. It’s hard to find a doctor these days to do a physical, much less to travel — so long as you don’t have access to a private jet.

Now Joe isn’t sweating this delay in new (?) Bucs quarterback Tom Brady signing a contract. But something is starting to smell fishy here.

The Bucs once thought they had Bo Jackson.

The Bucs once thought they had Bill Parcells. Twice even.

The Bucs once thought they had Brett Favre.

All four times at the very last minute, the Bucs got stiffed.

So Joe understands why some fans are slamming their pints of Big Storm Brewing beer on the bar, angry that someone or somebody is dragging arse here. The longer this goes on, the more of an opportunity, in theory, for Brady to get cold feet, or start listening to Joe Namath.

Does Joe need to remind people the Chargers still don’t have a quarterback? (Stop with Tyrod Taylor con; he is worthless unless facing a Mike Smith defense.)

Uber NFL insider Adam Schefter claims one of the major delays is the “language” of the contract. What, Team Glazer writes contracts in Mandarin now?

You can watch in the BSPN video below what the hell is taking this long.

    Jeff Darlington reported that he will have his physical today in NYC. Everything is moving along fine.

  2. mark2001 Says:

    Physical…period…

  3. Marine Buc Says:

    I bet they could get Winston back for a very deep discount at this point. Not a single team has called him regarding a starting QB job. Not one.

  4. Luckett Says:

    Trust Issues

  5. Marine Buc Says:

    Winston deal = one year $12 million take it or leave it.

  6. pick6 Says:

    how crazy that the bucs finalists at this point are 2 players that no other team in football wants?

  7. SteelStudBuc Says:

    Why so much for a backup?

  8. Jon Says:

    Stop with the conspiracy hes coming period. Physical is today and then its done

  9. StonedBuc Says:

    You must be daft, the hangup is getting to a physical while he is doing things. He is in no rush. Like cmon get out of here with fake news. He is getting everything lined up. Get ready for an inspirational video and cartoons and stuff.

  10. Allbuccedup Says:

    1 year 2million prove it deal.

  11. Pewter power Says:

    Leave it to joe to try and cause a panic

  12. 1sparkybuc Says:

    Don’t like his age and don’t like his politics. Don’t care where he plays.

  13. Chipbuc Says:

    Joe RELAX as Arron Rogers would say. It’s going to happen. This virus is screwing up all the signings. Teams must get the player a physical before the signing can happen. Simple as that.

  14. doctor_berto Says:

    1sparkybuc, anyone who brings up politics on a sports page is obviously brainwashed. Turn off CNN.

  15. pepsi Says:

    According to my sources this is whats going on currently. Yes the contract was written in Mandarin, Brady only knows some Cantonese. The Latin section is having some translation issues that need to be worked out. But everything in the Italian, French and English parts of the contract are lookiing perfect. So just a few kinks left to fix.

  16. Posey99 Says:

    “I bet they could get Winston back for a very deep discount at this point. Not a single team has called him regarding a starting QB job. Not one.”

    so we would want him why?

  17. Buddhaboy19 Says:

    YOU MUST SIGN ON THE LINE WHICH IS DOTTED. or….

    Or run off into the sunset as the best ever with supermodel wife, and not tarnish legacy playing for the yux.

  18. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    supposedly it’s because of the new CBA.

  19. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

    People downplaying the possibility of this falling apart are the foolhardy ones. It’s very possible Robert Kraft came back with a small slice of future ownership
    ( at least the opportunity to buy in ) or LA sees just how bright his star is and upped their ante. I never felt completely comfortable that it was a done deal.

  20. Hethrew 30 Says:

    It is on track. Not unlike signing college draftees…people always get nervous about the residuals in contracts. Brady (via his agent) got to where he is by being pedantic to a tee. That’s how he lives his life; that’s how he plays football. That is one thing that makes him so successful.

    But yeah, sure would like to see it done.

  21. Etzel Says:

    He was probably just using the Bucs as leverage to get a better deal from NE….

  22. Marine Buc Says:

    @ possey99

    We were 7-9 with Winston. We can win with Winston. I trust BA when he stated – “we can win with this QB (Winston) we can also win with a different one”.

  23. McBuc Says:

    Don’t forget Jake the snake.

  24. boldnewera Says:

    Buddhaboy…LMAO. Well done.

  25. Kord Says:

    Guys Winston is not coming back for any sort of cheap backup deal in Tampa for gods sake, who in the heck would think that? Dude is barely gonna get that somewhere else

  26. Rick Says:

    As long as we move on from jameis.

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Brady doesn’t strike me as the wishy-washy type……I think the deal is proceeding…….until I hear otherwise, I’m not concerned….

  28. BoiseBucsFan Says:

    Joe- I’m a fan, hit your blog multiple times a day. But this story reeks of clickbait. No facts, nothing to push the narrative forward. Do better.

  29. TexBuc Says:

    Reliable source don’t panic as soon as they find some toilet paper for the Glazer Jet Tom will be on his way.

  30. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    doctor_berto Says:
    “Jeff Darlington reported that he will have his physical today in NYC. Everything is moving along fine.”

    ~~~~
    I heard that from a couple of sources.
    By all accounts, all seems FINE.
  31. Ndog Says:
    He’s coming relax it’s just the Bucs being the Bucs.
  32. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    doctor_berto Says:
    “1sparkybuc, anyone who brings up politics on a sports page is obviously brainwashed. Turn off CNN.”
    ~~~~~~~~~

    Thank you.
    Last thing we need right now.
    We have enough to worry about.

  33. Joe Says:

    No facts, nothing to push the narrative forward.

    You sure? Guess you didn’t watch the video, which Joe quoted (briefly) in the story.

    Right now on social media, the delay is big for Bucs fans. Why would Joe want to ignore it?

  34. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    pepsi Says:
    “the contract was written in Mandarin”

    ~~~~~~
    LMAO, that frikkin cracked me UP, man.
    We need laughter these days.
  35. Marine Buc Says:
    @ kord
    Relax. I’m just spit balling dude. Tom Brady is going to be our QB next season. All I’m saying is we can’t do any worse than Winston who we went 7-9 with last year.
    That’s all. I’m bored bro!!!
  36. Imon Says:
    Given the Bucs history with being left at the altar I am hoping that it is just the physical and everything else will be ok… and Jameis will look great in those famous red white and blue unis… of the Montreal Alouettes.
  37. TBUC North Carolina Says:
    He Better Be!!! NDog done ordered his Brady Jersey!!
  38. El Buco Realisto Says:
    What’s the hangup?????(
    Easy, Team Glazer had to raise ticket prices, before TB12 signed the dotted line so the can roll out him out in new bucs gear in the first press conference!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  39. BoiseBucsFan Says:
    Yes, I saw that video before you re-posted. Again, no new facts. I’m still a fan (since 2010) and will continue to visit your site multiple times a day. I just think you can do better. Fair?
  40. Bucsdelight Says:
    According to reports, a number of players have reached out to the Bucs because they want to play with Tom. They didn’t name names, but they are posting it. haha.
  41. BoiseBucsFan Says:
    And, to your response. I never called for you to ignore it. Obviously Brady come into town and any chance it couldn’t happen is big news. But in regards to the post I stand by what I said. No new facts, no new info only a reposted video story with a click bait headline . I just think the Joe(s) can do better.
  42. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:
    Teams were just given permission to announce deals.
  43. ModHairKen Says:
    For all these people that think Winston is an option if Brady pulls a Bo or Parcells, pick your decade of betrayal, forget it.
    After all of this, bringing Jameis back would be the stupidest thing ever.
    You draft a rookie and go to camp with Griffin and Gabbert or some other journeyman.
  44. Buddy Says:
    if you’re Tom Brady it isn’t that hard to get a physical.
  45. Imon Says:
    Buddy: I don’t know if you’ve noticed but everything is shutting down, no matter how fat your bank account is. Besides, there really is no rush as the chances that the season is starting in September are pretty well zilch right now.
  46. Bucsdelight Says:
    He’s getting his physical today in NY. They agreed on a place.
  47. Mister Positive Pete Says:
    I’m getting flashbacks of Hugh Culverhouse whining about being “left at the altar.”
  48. Buddy Says:
    @Imon are you really that clueless. Pro Athletes are getting test before anyone else. And don’t you think some Superfan Bucs doctor wouldn’t drop everything to go give Tom Freakin Brady a physical? I’m not saying he’s not coming but if he wants to get a physical he and his family would jump straight to the front of any line. Thats just facts.
  49. Nick2 Says:
    Slow the roll… ESPN is reporting Brady is in NewYork taking the physical. He wants OUT.
  50. El Buco Realisto Says:
    Easy, Team Glazer had to raise ticket prices, before TB12 signed the dotted line so they can roll him out in new bucs gear (that will be for sale) in the first press conference!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  51. Buc believer Says:
    What did Brady say when he woke up from his 3 day binger? “I almost signed with WHO????”
  52. Lakelandsteve Says:
    Right now it looks like Brady and the Bucs have a deal and hopefully this afternoon we all get the news he is officially a Buc. But for God sakes please tell me this Todd Gurley trade stuff is fake news. Did anyone notice he didn’t play much last year even when the Rams were in dire need of a running game. He just stood on the sidelines in uniform and seldom went in. Please Bucs, don’t do it, he is damaged goods.
  53. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:
    We all have “Battered Fan Syndrome”. Most of the lifelong Buc fans have a history of expecting the worst or have something like coronavirus cause a delay that screws this up. We will ALL feel better when there is a formal announcement from the team and Brady.
  54. Imon Says:
    @Buddy: Heidi Klum probably has as much in the bank as Tom and she was sick and couldn’t get a test. They are not available at any price. Strong suggestion to stick your head out of your mom’s basement and look around.
  55. stravenite Says:
    Clickbait ((so Joe sharing Adam Schefter’s commentary is worthless. Got it.–Joe)) in the current chronovirus situation spreading fake news in this manor is totally irresponsible and immature.
    There is no news, patience is a virtue !.
    The JW crowd and now back here thinking there is a chance for their man to get a deal, ain’t happening. Medical coming and then news release. It’s all happening as we speak.
  56. Bankieb Says:
    2 words… Denver’s Broncos…
  57. stpetebucsfan Says:
    I wasn’t here for the Bo Jackson follies…however the rest you mentioned Joe were NEVER TOTALLY reported as being done and simply waiting for signatures.
    They were reported close…this has been reported already all over the nation as a done deal…particularly on the NFL’s own network…awaiting ONLY the physical.
    In these previous “last second” blowups it was just the Bucs who were effected and nobody really cared how much egg we had on our faces.
    If this blows up… A LOT of folks from the NFL…to Brady to the entire sports reporting corps of this nation will be left with that egg on their face.
    IE This would be a major PR hit on the NFL and it’s media…Brady..etc…
    The participants have crossed the Rubicon. The die is cast!
    If you really wish to worry about something…after of course the immense human suffering that will come from this pandemic..must keep priorities…but after that if you wish additional worry…worry about this season.
    Somebody posted wouldn’t it be Buc luck to score the GOAT and have the season wiped out or messed up too much to take advantage of TB12.
    A shortened prep period before the season hurts the Bucs as much as any team in the league. At least the team has largely had a year of BA’s systems and expectations. Just Brady and an RT and RB have to get up to speed. And that of course doesn’t even take into consideration Brady to get synced up with at least four new targets.
  58. BrooksvilleDWB2019 Says:
    Only thing fishy is the sardines with your beer, lol
  59. donuts Says:
    Panic at JBF…. this is what is wrong with the media. Trying to connect too many dots. All 4 people you mentioned rebuffed by a different decade and regime not Licht or Arians.
    Brady will have his physical today as widely reported and be announced on Friday/Monday at latest.
    Dont get your panties in a bunch over there and enjoy the Big Storm brew.
  60. Buddy Says:
    @Imon sorry to tell you this Heidi Klum isn’t Tom Brady or Giselle for that matter and cash has nothing to do with it. I’m guessing you’re not from florida cause there’s no basements here. So welcome to the Bay A$$clown!!!
  61. Buddy Says:
    Hey @Imon so sorry a$$ Joe Flacco was able to get a physical ( and fail it) in the past 2 days but Tom Brady wasn’t able to?? Hmmm
  62. JimmyJack Says:
    I’m gettin nervous. I’m gettin antsy!!! I’m having trouble breating.
    What if he baks out???? Holy crap this could hapen!!!
    Then we will be leftt wwith nothing……NOTHIN!!!!!!;;
    Nobody’s left there’s nodody out there to QB uus!! No Rivers no Teddy no nodoby. Will stop might even give us the could shulder. Then all we got is Griffen and Glain Babberett.
    Please please please noook!!!!!
  63. JimmyJack Says:
    St Pete that’s it!! That’s just it!!!!! The preseason will get shortened.
    Tom will realize it’s going to hurt his chances badly…..He’s gonna see it’s gonna set everything back too far and it just aren’t gonna happen in Tampa Bay!!!!!
    This virus is gonna scare Tomm off and he’ll back out and go back to the Patriots!!! We really might loose Tom becose of this virus!!!
    Consider me freaked the freak OUTTTT!!!!
  64. Joe Says:
    St Pete that’s it!! That’s just it!!!!! The preseason will get shortened.
    If it takes a virus to get rid of the virus that is preseason football, all for it.
  65. Buddy Says:
    @JimmyJack i honestly don’t think anything to worry about. It will get done. But not being able to get a physical is kinda funny to me.
  66. Warrenfb12 Says:
    Joe always gets it.
    Something is up here. We have all been through this before. Smh
  67. whats the bucs plan 2020 Says:
    The physical for the signing isn’t happening with doctors from the Buccaneers, it’s happening in New York, according to Jeff Darlington of ESPN. With Brady unable to travel from New York to Florida due to the coronavirus outbreak, other measures had to be taken.
    Darlington said “everything is moving along just fine.”
    Teams are not allowed to send private planes to pick players up right now, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported. Nor can they meet somewhere away from the team facility. Getting Brady down to Tampa isn’t feasible right now, but he’ll still be there next season.
  71. Dave Says:
    With the 1st pick in the 2021 NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Yuccaneers select Treveor Lawerence, Clemson
  72. JimmyJack Says:
    Warren any delay is a concern at this point………Somebody is chirping in Tom’s ear right now now telling him to back out of Tampa!!!!
    I am freaked out right now bro!!
  73. BucsFIRE Says:
    Dave Says:
    “Treveor Lawerence”
    Learn to spell.
  74. Imon Says:
    @whats the bucs plan 2020: Thank you for the injection of facts and logic. Now Buddy, you can stay in the crawlspace and keep drinking Coronas to boost your immune system. Cheers!
  75. DerrickBrooksGOATLB Says:
    If this were a run of the mill player or even a second-tier star, this would be a non-story. Stop making drama when there is none. Brady went to Kraft’s freaking house and told him he was done with the Patriots then called Belichick to tell him the same.
    It’s over for him in NE and he’s signing with the Bucs. Period. Forget Parcells, Favre and Bo. The only reason for the delay is his physical which the Bucs are allowing him to do at a doctor of his choice in New York and travel is impacted right now by COVID-19. That’s it.
    Can we get back to real football news? Like perhaps the (consistently shrinking) market for Jameis?
  76. Bucs Guy Says:
  78. Joe clueless Says:
    Joe, I get it . You’re still butt hurt Jameis is not coming back. Not butt hurt at all. Wrote many times Joe was fine with Rivers or Brady and the Bucs drafting a quarterback.–Joe Thank God on that.
    He’s garbage. Getting Brady in Tampa will bring unity back to this fan base. Go change your pants and come back with a better attitude.
  79. Njbuc Says:
    Do you really think that there is going to be a football season this year? LMAO, hasn’t anyone noticed that there’s a worldwide pandemic killing thousands of people, and everyone here is worried about Brady getting a physical, OMG we’re all DOOMED
  80. Carolina Buc Says:
    Wouldn’t it be great to see Brady sign his contract in the new look Bucs uniform??? Most popular jersey in the NFL!
  81. Robert Says:
    ~~~~~~

    I think we are all trying to find something fun to talk & think about because we are ALL carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders right now, trying to navigate what is going on. It’s not lost on any of us, I don’t think, what you said in your post.

    It is just an escape.
    Laughter is good too.

    We just have to endure somehow, until we get a grip on this, and begin to turn it around. We MUST endure.

    And we WILL.

  84. Stevebobucsfan Says:

    Joe, I am thinking it’s a done deal but there must be some other attachments like, maybe Brady want them to have a certain right or left guard in place or both before he sign. I’ve watched this Bucs OL all season. Although not bad I don’t think it’s as good as the line he had in N England

  85. BucBrady Says:

    This is clickbait. If there’s suspense then there’s clicks.

  86. tickrdr Says:

    I volunteered to do the physical on Gisele, but there was a waiting list.

    tickrdr

  87. lambchop Says:

    Getting the physical in the time of Coronavirus is the hangup. I’m pretty sure all medical personnel are just a wee bit busy right now. Duh!

    I also read that other GMs will not officially announce signings until the physical and signing of the contracts. That’s the professional way to do things.

  88. stpetebucsfan Says:

    tickdr FTW!!! If I had your qualifications i would love to volunteer there as well!

    BTW I wish you were in St. Pete! My wife had a great…perhaps more accurately described as a very successful mitral valve repair at TGH. We love that hospital…we’re comfortable with St Anthony’s over here.

    The cardiologists here not so much! My wife did find a great Electrophysiologist to place her pacemaker here next week but doesn’t wish to give up her GC…long story.

    I just need a good general cardiac doc here in St. Pete. Love my guy but he’s in Brandon and Sun City Center…don’t mind the drive but if you have an event it’s off to St. A’s and then no St. Pete doc.

    Don’t you love asrewipes like me who invade your pleasure with professional questions and free advice? LMAO

  89. stpetebucsfan Says:

    JJ

    Let me help you off the ledge. Go read the Boston Globe for the past two days.

    TB12 is NOT going to play for Belicheat…ever! If this fell through it’s as Joe suggested LA that you need to worry about. They really wanted him and who do they have now..Tyrod Taylor?

  90. lambchop Says:

    The other problem regarding Brady’s physical is that he’s trying to get it done in NY (👀). NY is a hot bed for Coronavirus. Also, the Bucs would prefer to have a Buc’s doctor to do the physical, but I think they’ll work around that if Brady can get a physical done safely.

    Sean Payton has tested + for Covid-19. So, most teams are going to take precautions with new signings. If a team is signing their own players, it’s a lot easier. But new players have to go through more hoops at this point.

  91. tickrdr Says:

    @SPBF:
    So glad to hear that you and your wife are getting such great care!
    I’m sorry, but I don’t know any of the cardiologists in your area.
    And for you, my friend, I would certainly try to answer any question you may have.

    But beware, because one of my favorite lines to tell my patients about their questions is:
    “Even if I don’t know the answer, I can make one up with the best of ’em”!

    I am quite sure that most posters here would dismiss my opinion out of hand, even if it were about something other than football. Caveat emptor.

    BTW: meant to compliment you on the “crossing the Rubicon” reference.
    Nicely played!

  92. Aceofaerospace Says:

    Welcome to the Bucs y’all!
    Plan on sticking around?

  94. TexBuc Says:

    Tom maybe holding out for AB

  95. TexBuc Says:

    Or maybe Tom wants clarification on what Roster Input means?

  96. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete Says:

    Joe, I guarantee that we would’ve finished with a better record last year than 7-9 if we had Tyrod Taylor instead of Winston. ‘Nuff said.

    Tyrod Taylor > Jameis when it comes to actually winning football games.

  97. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete Says:

    Tyrod Taylor is 23-22 as a Starting QB in the NFL. Jameis is obv much worse than that. I actually would’ve been fine if we would’ve signed Tyrod Taylor to replace Winston and then drafted a QB to compete… If we weren’t getting Brady obv (or Bridgewater)..

  98. Mike Johnson Says:

    LMAO here. What the hangup Joe? I’ll tell ya what it is. Brady’s agent is making sure he milks every guaranteed dollar he can out of the Glazers. Because he know the deal..that Brady will not hold up a season. Brady’s gonna end up being a Sweezy double..but worse. You’ll see.

  99. Clean House Says:

    He’s not coming and neither is JW

  103. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Thanks for that kind response and again anytime I get a compliment from you it’s greatly appreciated because I consider source.

    My wife is a retired Dentist. I understand what it is to be at a party and get asked for FREE advice. lol

  104. Howard Cosell Says:

    LOLOL if Brady jilts the Glazers. That would be epic

  105. Aaron Says:

    Just waiting for him to do what he said he was gonna do April 1st just get it all over with lol

  106. MadMax Says:

    Patience. 🙂

  107. Anonymous Says:

    Joe there are only two things that could be “contract language” concerns. 1) Brady wanted some play calling control. I can’t imagine Bruce not working this out agreeably with Brady. Ultimately any quarterback can change any call at any time and what is Arian’s going to do fire Brady? 2) And this is almost certainly the hang up. He asked for some personnel control. While I understand that must be a big blow to the ego of Jason Licht he just needs to suck it up. His job has to hanging on by a thread at this point and I quite frankly think he should take all the help he can get. Especially by someone with Tom Brady’s understanding of what a championship caliber player is.

  108. Rod Munch Says:

    I was the one, seemingly the only one, saying lets hold off on celebrating the Brady news until he’s actually the podium, or on a conference call, or whoever this gets done. The Bucs are the Bucs and have repeatedly blown this stuff, their history of full of it.

    HOWEVER… no one has retracted any reporting and if Brady had changed his mind, he’d still need someone else to go and those spots are disappearing.

    Thankfully, if Brady did back out, the Bucs could finally lock up Winston to a long-term deal on the cheap. That would be a fantastic backup plan.

  109. ir8oldman Says:

    So. Enough crying, he’s signed. With the Buccaneers.
