Bill Polian: “I Suspect Bruce Was Fudging”

March 30th, 2020

Bruce Arians’ friend questions his veracity about Jameis Winston and says Jameis might need a more accomplished coach

Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian threw a pants-on-fire accusation at Bucco Bruce Arians on national radio last week.

Astute football fans know head coaches, general managers and owners throw a bunch of spin-filled baloney out there routinely and believe it’s in their job description to mislead the public. No matter how candid they may be, they all do it and don’t think it’s a problem. And it’s all blessed by yes-men team officials who cling to fat paychecks like Joe cuddles a 4-pack of Big Storm beer. It’s the NFL way.

Arians certainly is among the more candid and interesting voices in the NFL, and for that Joe is grateful. But Arians plays the misdirection game, too. (See his comments about DeSean Jackson and Ryan Fitzpatrick last winter.)

Polian, Arians’ good friend and former boss at Indianapolis, called him out during a discussion on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Listeners were reminded by Polian that the Bucs head coach called his “Late Hits” show every week and often dissected Jameis’ interceptions but likely wasn’t being forthright.

“Bruce would say, well, you know, Jameis had three interceptions [Sunday], one of them was his fault, one was a drop, and the other one the receiver ran the wrong route. I suspect Bruce was fudging a little bit because he was raised in this game just like I was, which is that the quarterback is publicly never wrong; privately you can tell him whatever you think. But publicly you’re never going to knock him,” Polian said.

“But you know, toward the end of the season, you’d hear Bruce say, ‘Well, [Jameis] had one tough one today that bounced off a receiver but the other two were clearly his fault. He’d gotten to the point where you could tell from his answer that he wasn’t getting the production or improvement that he thought he should get from Jameis.'”

It’s certainly interesting to hear Arians’ pal say all this.

Later in the show, Polian was asked about Jameis becoming the next Vinny Testaverde, the Bucs’ No. 1 overall pick in 1987.

Losing his ego and allowing himself to become a journeyman professional was key for Testaverde, Polian said, and Jameis likely needs to do the same thing.

Polian said Testaverde resurrected his career after getting around Bill Belicheat (Browns) and Belicheat’s mentor, Bill Parcells (Jets). And “I have a feeling [Jameis is] going to need somebody like Big Bill or Little Bill to get [the interceptions] out of him,” Polian said, noting they wouldn’t tolerate them.

As Jets fans know well, the season after Parcells left the team (2000), Testaverde led the NFL with 25 interceptions and threw six picks in the final three games — all losses in a 9-7 season.

Now the question is, is Belicheat drooling at the chance to fix Jameis without paying him much.

Enough of Jameis….was a supporter but now, he’s gone…….tell us when he gets a job……

  2. SKBucsFan Says:

Let’s hope someone takes a chance on JW. The Bucs need the compensatory pick next year.

  3. Jean Lafitte Says:

I didn’t read anything nefarious in what Polian said. He basically said that earlier in the season BA was protecting JW from outside criticism and as the season wore on he’d grown tired of making excuses for him. That’s what coaches do.

  4. Marine Buc Says:

What purpose would it serve to bash your starting QB publicly in the middle of a football season? Especially when your only backup is Ryan Griffen.

BA is smart and that’s why I trust him to run this team properly and so far he has done a solid job.

  5. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Ok, off topic, but just to brag. I have the most amazing wife ever. On her own, she c called and ordered season tickets for us!!! How cool is that?! I never even suggested it; totally her idea. She is the BEST!

  6. Allbuccedup Says:

Jameis is gone enough already let’s talk about the future.

  7. mark2001 Says:

I said the same thing to the fans that never had management training or a good manager. And that was in December.

You praise in public and criticize in private. It also applies to good sports management. You criticize in public and it is always on the record…and you only do it as a last resort.

And that is why I said when Arians did it to Jameis in public, it was probably over.

  8. Destinjohnny Says:

Word is jameis wants 28 million
Hell he might as well ask for 100 million a year.
I’d give him 8-10 million all day to be a back up

  9. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Why are we still talking about Winston?

I am getting tired of it why don’t we look toward the future. Granted Joe probably thinks we have none cause his guy Mr Entertainment is gone.

Also Belicheat will NEVER tolerate his turnovers.

  10. stpetebucsfan Says:

Of course he was fudging. He had already seen JW fold like a tent in a hurricane the prior year. He made sure Fitz was gone. He kept singing JW’s praises…until he didn’t because he made the calculation that’s what JW needed.

Hindsight is 20/20 but not really in this case. It only leads to speculation. I grew so disgusted at BA’s standing behind JW’s sometimes horrid play.

I wanted to imagine what would have happend if the “Tuna” had been coach last year. How many times would Parcells have run onto the field long before JW made it to the sidelines…screaming…spittle flying from his mouth over JW”s face mask….Parcells would have ripped JW a new one in front of God and everyone in the stands and watching on TV. It wouldn’t have been tough love it would have been snap out of it you freaking cement head.

Would that have been a better way to handle JW. I surely do not know but it would have made me as a fan FEEL a lot better.

  11. El Buco Realisto Says:

Ole stale biscuit was “fudging”?????? That is some leap!!!!!!!!! If that was a “little” fudging, then the whole Hersey Chocolate Factory was when. bruce arrogance said he had all the quick fixes, or all the team needed was “real” coaching!!!!!!!!!! Now that was a huge pile of lies!!!!!!!!!! The sheep just have to “recognize” that only 4 to maybe 5 starters will be left from the opening day of the 2018 season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the sheep love to be lied too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. stpetebucsfan Says:

“Why are we still talking about Winston?”

Sadly and without snark it’s just another result of the Covid. There’s not a lot more to talk about. Same as TV regurgitating all their old shows and games.

  13. mark2001 Says:

I just explained it, and some of you guys just don’t get it. Praise in public, criticize in public. It is that simple. It is done all the time.

  14. mark2001 Says:

    Criticize in private…

  15. jmarkbuc Says:

    BTW

    How you feeling St Pete?

  16. mark2001 Says:

Fifteen cases, then 5 five cases, than 1 case, than virus all gone.

We Americans just love to be lied to.

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ll be so happy when our Bucs truly start winning. Every year, we have a sacrificial lamb. Lovie, Schiano, GM and now Winston. Only consistent Losers do this. Its how fans justify the Losing. it was..His fault. If Brady gets hurt and cannot play, The rope..won’t be long enough now will it?

  18. Hethrew 30 Says:

Let’s get this straight. The most fundamental rule of football at any level is “take care of the rock.” There is no winning prescription that says throw for lots of yard, and score 30 points a game so you can be permitte to give it away mulitiple times. At the end of the year, Arians was being more realistic. He spent the whole first 3/4 by trying to coddle Winston so he wouldn’t feel so much pressure.

There are only two people on Earth who could believe with any seriousness that you can give the ball away often and still be a winning QB: Winston’s fiancee (after all, what other hope is there?) and NDog. The latter is clueless, and former is likely clueless. What about JulyJoe and Jameis1of1? They are the same person as one of the previously mentioned. This is good news because too many clueless people make for a scary world.

  19. Hethrew 30 Says:

Oh, but who is Jameis Winston? Doesn’t he do fries at a soon-to-close Whataburger?

  20. BrianBucs Says:

The Patriots love reclamation projects. Some work out for them and some don’t.
Winston may just be way too big of a project to take on. Bill hates turnovers worse than anything and Winston just breeds them

  21. jmarkbuc Says:

    Mike Johnson

Ever cross your mind that JW just wasn’t that good?

You watched the games right? JW played a sandlot style that’s not suitable to the pro’s…and that’s on him.

  22. stravenite Says:

This is not JOEWINSTONFAN – enough already, this is becoming tedious every day the same argument regarding JW.

He is gone and will not return so there needs to be a break and move forward. I come on this site to hear the latest Bucs news and here you are still rattling about JW – let it go man !

  23. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @stravenite

You think that its tedious?????? Think about those with the foresight, that knew all of this and warned the sheep last year, and then having to watch it slowly pan out as the sheep now are just getting it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s right!!!!!!! Its time for the much Requested ” Realist Repost”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The Buc Realist Says:
    June 26th, 2019 at 2:14 pm
Why???? INT’s and turnovers are not “excitement”!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only ones that will find this “exciting” are the sheep that like to watch a toilet being flushed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Bobby M. Says:

Winston needs a coach like Fisher…..someone that will lay into his a$$ publicly in the moment. That’s really all he responds to but it might help minimize his tendencies. Problem with that, in the NFL that style of coaching has faded out….for the most part only college coaches get away with that approach.

  25. Ndog Says:

Just more slander and made up bullsh!t!

  26. Dapostman Says:

One thing the anti Winston crowd is good at is the absolute way of thought. You hear he’ll never or he always. This is a narrow way of thought. Every person and player has the ability to change whatever they are doing. It is up to them not the absolute crowd.

  27. Ndog Says:

No you freaking idiots Jameis just needs a TEAM. Let me ask you this what was his record this with healthy receivers and when the defense finally got their head of out their a$$?

    That’s right 5-1!!!!

What was his record when the defense had a good 5 game stretch a few years back?

    That’s right 9-7!!!

Whenever the guy had any asemblence of a team he won, the only problem is this crappy franchise basically never did that outside of a stretch here or there.

  28. Adrnagy Says:

3-4 months away. I can’t wait to see my bucs play I hope we don’t finish 9-7. Base on Las Vegas. If we do …. very sad “the goat “ led the team to that record?

I would say Bruce needs to be fire and licht. Brady…. idk. Backup for the new drafted QB.

  29. Geno711 Says:

So many good comments about moving on. I agree.

  30. Geno711 Says:

Hope you are feeling better st Pete.

  31. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Why does Ndog1of1 keep posting about the same thing in here day after day after day?

  32. GhostofSchiano Says:

Someone might want to keep an eye on their sheep, it’s GOAT mating season…..just saying

  33. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Ndog

What team do you think will take Winston and at what price? Do you believe he will be a starting QB in 2020 or will he be paid and expected to be a backup?

  34. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Ndog

    I’m thinking Cincinnati or Pittsburgh.

  35. stpetebucsfan Says:

    JMark

Still getting rid of the head cold from hell…at least hopefully it’s only a head cold!

Amy Klobuchar’s hubby started with just a head cold. What a joke a Covid test is if you have to wait 14 days!

Thanks for asking though. I have to hope my optimism will carry me through.

  36. Architek Says:

Over Jameis. Too much good to be focused on losing.

  37. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    stpetebucsfan,

May it be just that, our friend.
All that matters is that you get to feeling much better, very soon.

  38. Robert Says:

He was covering for a horrible qb hoping he would come around. no different than what one would do for a horrible wife or husband until their done and can take no more.

I commend him for sticking up for him; he showed more patience than most would. That’s proven from the fact that the other guy cant even find a back up job. He gives new definition to moron.

What irritates me is how many lives, coaches, players, victims, the other guy ruined. karma

  39. Pewter Power Says:

There are plenty of strong armed quarterbacks to come through the nfl Winston is not alone in that. I find it odd people still haven’t figured out how stupid they sound, Josh Freeman has I big arm but in the end arm talent isn’t what matters

The fact that you’ve been talking about fixing a 1st overall pick for the last two years is one of your issues. The second is he is in year 6. How can someone be taught not to act in their impulses when bullies are flying? Patriots never have the most talented roster they just don’t many mistakes, Winston is not on his mind.

Winston will be smart to wait for a starter to get injured or sign to sit behind a guy just as bad at decision making

  40. Youngbucs Says:

Hey Joe I’m hearing Minnesota wants to trade for our pick.
Can we get an article to debate on that please.

  41. Oneilbucs Says:

Architek this team hasn’t won since 2010 where we had a 10 and 6 season . The next year because of injuries and we had practice squad guys in as starters because of the injuries . And we started off 4 and 2 before the injuries happened and yall wanted the coach fired after all those injuries . Then it was Freeman’s fault for every thing even though Greg Shanino got rid of all the talent . Then Lovie came in and he was the scapegoat . Then they drafted Jamies and fired Lovie and that was the last time we had a 1,000 rusher . Then Dirk Kotter came in and he said he didn’t want Jamies but that was the head coach . And Jamies became the scapegoat . Then Bruce Arians came in with his lies and said he took the job because of Jamies . Then he said it takes 2 years to master his playbook . Before that he said I don’t value runningbacks and had Jamies throwing the ball 10 to 20 yards a throw and told him to keep slanging the ball . Jamies did that and it back fired on Jamies . He knew the hold time he wanted a older quarterback and now he wants a three down back and he is going to change the playbook for Brady . And if it doesn’t work this year he’s going to retire and Brady will be gone and we will be still at the bottom . And everybody in the national media is going to bash us because they ain’t going to never blame Brady for nothing . Then yall will hear about how Tampa bay has never developed a quarterback and we will be the laughing stock of the NFL .

  42. Jmarkbuc Says:

    O’Neill

We’ve been the laughingstock plenty of times…Brady won’t make that any worse and just might make it better.

Pick another team if you can’t handle it.

  43. BucsFIRE Says:

    Jmarkbuc says:
“O’Neill, Pick another team if you can’t handle it.”

    Ditto.

  44. Architek Says:

    O’Neil
I understand- ive been a Bucs fan since the 80s! The point I am making is while every HC lie, it’s refreshing to hear Arians conforming so many of the obvious moves we use to clamor for and now he’s finally directing Licht to make the RIGHT moves. Mark Dominik and Lovie and Koetter made some treacherous draft picks (I don’t consider Winston one of those picks) but multiple second rounders wasted, OJ/ASJ, and more still impacts our roster depth. Finally, we get a QB and staff that makes half decent logical moves.

I wish Winston the best and he should reconsider his camp but if we can get to a wild card and go from there this signing was a HUGE success! Young players don’t win rings! We want to develop a winning culture, start drafting trenches and the non-flashy picks instead reaching and telling fans we know nothing.

  45. Ndog Says:

A WILDCARD, A FREAKING WILDCARD, no way brother it is Superbowl championship or bust THIS YEAR!!!!!!!! Nothing else will be acceptable period.

  46. Ivan The Insider Says:

    @NDOG – Jameis was 5-1 against WHO?

Oh that’s right… the mighty Falcons, Jags, Colts, Lions, and Cardinals.

LOLZ. ALL teams with LOSING RECORDS.

    So that’s not saying much.

  47. Ivan The Insider Says:

    RIDDLE ME THIS…

Why is The Mighty Jameis Winston still without a team? Still unsigned?

Ndog, dapostmasn, Ardnagy, Oneilbucs, and all you other Jameis-homers… if Jameis were truly so great and you were right about him all along, WHY hasn’t he been grabbed up by some other team? Who wouldn’t want a “Future HOFer” at such a bargain price that could clearly be had now.

  48. Ivan The Insider Says:

    Ndog,

It’s only Super Bowl or bust in your mind so you’ll have an easy excuse to hate on Brady and the New Bucs team. No one else is realistically expecting a Super Bowl.

BUT WE ALL SURE LOVVVVVVVVVE THAT YOUR BABY BOY, JAMEIS, WALKED THE PLANK!

  49. mark2001 Says:

Tired of the topic, but have to say to those that blame Arians on instructing Jameis to throw the ball down field, please remember that Jameis wasn’t fine before Arians. The question of a contract extension have been nagging him for years. In fact, Fitz had his job before he melted down. So just to set your history straight…but for one year, he has always been a question mark.

  50. mark2001 Says:

And if Brady does lead us to a SB and doesn’t throw for 5000 yards, with 10 ints.? In some people books, that will make Brady a bust, and we would have won the SB with Jameis anyway. No way of pleasing some.

  51. SKBucsFan Says:

Exactly Ivan. Only the JW fan boys are trying to convince everyone it’s SuperBowl or bust. The rest of us are just happy that we have a shot at being better. The confidence around One Buc Place has never been higher. Hopefully that results in a better record. But we are not delusional. I’m not turning my back on the Bucs if Brady doesn’t lead them to a SuperBowl.

So those are the same teams everyone looked at and said the defense is fixed. So it’s ok for them but not for Jameis?

  53. Ndog Says:

The moves this franchise makes are always shortsighted and lack any direction. Can anyone, with a straight face, say we are going to win the Superbowl next year? If not then what is the point of bringing in Brady? This is very simple folks it’s a money grab and it was the easy move. This is not about winning it all now or the long term as they know they aren’t winning it all next year and they know Brady is declining, so it’s about cash and all you fair weather fans jump up and down excited because you have no idea what you are talking about. We were in a prime position to be the class of this division for many years to come with no Brees, Matt Ryan on the way down, Carolina in the dumps and we would have been sitting pretty with a 28 year old QB entering his prime with multiple years of experience but no we went the cash grab way cause this franchise is just as CLUELESS as most of you.

And you don’t have to be a “fanboy” to see this just not a complete idiot.

  54. Adrnagy Says:

Bill polian and Bruce Arians are from the same place = garbage.

    Tom Brady lost arm strength.

  55. Adrnagy Says:

Jameis is a 15 int a yr qb.
Two face Bruce comes and doubles.

Anyone who sees good in Jameis is a homer, a fanboy..Those that oppose him not haters- heroes every article that comes out the same morons come in day after day to espouse how they don’t hate JW only the people in this forum that supported him. They don’t carry facts other than 30 ints. That is only one mans fault. Bruce didn’t fudge on his comments so Polian can suck it. Anyone who actually watched the games knows that this is a fact. Even still 20 Ints is a lot and needed correcting. The QB Whisperer totally failed and that makes him a blow hard liar in my book. He did NOTHING to help Winston. In fact he did everything to hurt him. He took away his RBs and TEs in the passing game, then at the same time he abandoned the running game by the 2nd quarter no matter if we were winning or losing. The QB whispers gave up like the quitter he actually is. This should fire up some of you BA fanboys and Homers.

  58. Steven007 Says:

Ndog, I never knew you were so fond of equines and beating them to a bloody pulp because, brother, you are beating a dead horse down to a molecular level. I (almost) envy your for your stamina. So what will quell your thirst for JW “righteousness”? I guess I’m just not sure what you’re looking for from “us” (JBF’rs who are pure Buc fans irrespective of the current roster and aren’t still crying ourselves to sleep because a favorite player didn’t work out like we’d hoped)? Are you looking for positive affirmation? An “attaboy Ndog! YOU. ARE/WERE. RIGHT!!!” Would that provide sufficient succor for your fragile ego? Because if not…well what are you looking for from the Ndog proclaimed clueless? You’ve got some posters that are obviously of the same ilk when it comes to JW or bust fandom. Is that not good enough? Must it be all of us? Because you know that’ll never happen. Just curious. Honestly.

  59. Natron Says:

Jameis needs to fire his agent now,…….and hire Ndog !!!

  60. Ivan The Insider Says:

    @Ndog,

They signed Brady because even at his age he is still capable of being a solid QB. We have arguably the best Offensive Receiving Corp in the entire league – Evans/Godwin/Howard/Brate. Howard obviously needs to play better. But no one can doubt our twin Pro Bowl WRs and Brate has been a solid TE.

SIDENITE: Remember only a few months ago when you were actually saying that Mike Evans was TRASH? Yes, YOU actually said that.

Anyway… Winston wasn’t getting it done. He’d put up big numbers but then would give opponents great field position. His turnovers were MORALE crushers for his teammates. Anyway that tries to argue otherwise has never played team sports in their life.

Winston has led the NFL in turnovers (over 100+) since he’s been in the league. It’s just not a good sign. He wasn’t trending towards any sort of improvement.

The Bucs felt it was time to bring in someone that would make less mistakes, hoping that this talented Offense can still thrive. That’s why they were also interested in signing Bridgewater which they’ve known admitted to. He was “Plan B” if they couldn’t get Brady.

Signing Brady is also a good business decision. He will sell tickets, merchandise, etc. and it’s great for the fan base to get excited again; as well as expand the fan base to new fans that like Brady. The NFL is a business and so you can’t blame the Glazers for that move.

They know they have a short window with Brady, but are willing to try and see if they can put together a magical year for one of the years he’s still here. Any given season can result in a Super Bowl for a team, that’s just how it goes — like it did for us in the 2002 season, and like it did recently for the Eagles. It takes a lot of things to fall together to make that Super Bowl run, and while the odds are against us, this organization is willing to give it a shot.

The Bucs will also most likely draft a young QB to learn under Brady. Someone that will be on a cheap rookie deal for his first 4 years; not someone like Winston that would already be commanding $20M-$25M++. So it’s a salary cap issue as well.

It’s an exciting New Day in Tampa Bay! You should get onboard.

Get over your love for Winston now that he’s gone. It’s time for your to embrace the future.

And stop with all the “whataboutisms” of the past, etc. etc. Most of the people involved the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (players, execs, trainers, or ownership) had NOTHING to with many of the mistakes this organization made in the past. Sure, they’ve made plenty over the past 10 years with trying to get back to the playoffs, but they also don’t get all the blame for the Bucs woes since 1976.

We have one Lombardi Trophy. Now it’s time we try and get excited about this New Direction as we are hopefully moving towards Ring #2, whenever that happens.

  61. Ivan The Insider Says:

    ADRNAGY,

Honest question… how long do you plan to post on this site about you being upset that Jameis was not kept on the team?

2 months? All this 2020 season? This season and next season too? 5 seasons? 10?

Just curious where your head is at and how many hours of your life you will continue to waste by coming here and bashing the Bucs organization and their coaching staff since your favorite player Winston was not resigned.

Can you give us some ideas of how long your “Jameis Grief Tour” will last?

    Thanks.

  62. Ndog Says:

Yes Ivan Evans has been trash in games, Jameis has been trash in games, most every player has been trash in games, what’s your point?
Who has not embraced the future? The future is NOW cause they let our future walk out the door. That is why it is win now or it is a failure. What about that don’t you understand?

See another issue I have is that most of the people that will come to games or even comment on this site will be nowhere to be found in two years when we have no coach, no QB and no hope of winning jacksh!t. Then the fans like me who have always and will always be here have to suffer due to their moronic decisions. So they better make it worth it by winning a Superbowl or two.

  63. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Arians is an idiot for wanting washed up dodo bird Brady. This is all about holding onto season ticket money and merch sales. Brady will never take a snap for the Bucs. Then The Almighty Famous Jameis Winston comes back to save the day!

  64. El Buco Realisto Says:

Why is Brady here you ask????? Because the GM and so called head coach are desperate!!!!!!!!! The GM drafted the failed qb and ole stale biscuit was hired to fix him!!!!!!!!!! If they did not land a big free agent to distract the sheep, all would be asking why is the GM still here???? Why is bruce Arrogance still here!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Desperation and Distractions!!!!!!!!!!!

As the season rolls on, we will hear of how Brady is setting up and teach “the culture” for the next generation!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the sheep will eat it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  65. Youngbucs Says:

Let our future walk out the door 😂🤦‍♂️

  66. mark2001 Says:

Young..fact is, we don’t know if he is in anyone’s future.

  67. Doctor Stroud Says:

If the Bucs win those last two games, JW would still be the team’s QB. He regressed, and that’s his fault. At the same time, Brady’s signing is a nostalgia tour. Jason Licht, Bruce Arians, Team Glazer, and Company all wanted to know what it was like to work with Brady, a HOF QB, and this is their very last chance to do so. JW’s gunslinger playing style on the field is exactly the GM/Coach’s philosophy for building the team.

  68. MadMax Says:

Something good…nfl Gamepass is free through 5-31…just go sign up.

    Awesome!

  69. MadMax Says:

Hey Ndog, why isnt your boy JW signed yet? Asking for a friend 🙂

Ndog Jameis was not this teams future, apparently he is no other teams future as well. Just get over it buddy, he’s gone, never coming back. Got so happily drunk when I knew Jameis wouldn’t be back to drag the Bucs down another year, almost as good as the Brady news

  71. sincethebeginning Says:

Since there are no sports right now, Vegas needs to open some betting lines on Winston’s future. Like is he going to sign before the draft or after the draft? Did he get signed as a starter or back up? Is he going to be a unsigned free agent all the way through preseason? Or after which game in preseason will he be signed? Is he going to go to the CFL? Is he going to go work in the seafood department at the Nebraska Ave Publix?

In all seriousness, though, I’ll post what I’ve posted for the last couple of weeks off and on — I think Jameis’ best fit is as a backup in Pittsburgh. Tomlin will be the one to chew him out the way he needs it, and he’ll take over for Big Ben when the time is right, and he’ll do great! I truly believe that could happen for him up there in Steeltown.

But he needs to be humble enough and patient enough to wait for that opportunity to come at the right time. And he needs to end all the big talk. Every last syllable of it. And his people need to end that as well. He needs to go strong and silent and get to work and prove he’s not what other people say he is. It’s beyond the time for words. It’s time to work. Thats the only thing to prove anything, at this point.

Come on, MT, come on Steeler Nation, give Jameis a chance to work!!

  72. MadMax Says:

Im not gonna lie, i’d still like JW as our backup as long as he understands its going to be for pennies…i dont think it would be a bad move on our part….3-6 mill. But im sure thats not possible….too much bad stuff between him and AB. Plus im sure he wants a new team now.

  73. MadMax Says:

    BA not AB, lol

  74. Ivan The Insider Says:

    Ndog,

I recall you claiming Mike Evans was trash PERIOD. It wasn’t about one bad game. I saw your comments during a live game thread. You were stating how Evans was vastly overrated and really wasn’t that good. You said he was terrible at running routes and other negative things about him.

Also… what the heck are you talking about how they have to win a Super Bowl in the next two years? You act like they traded the next 10 years of #1 picks to get Brady.

Seriously? Dude at anytime in the next couple of years they can just resign another solid free agent QB that might be available if they hadn’t been able to draft a young QB that could start. You act like it’s “all or nothing” now for the Bucs just because they got rid of… Jameis Winston… the guy that no other team in the entire NFL wants?

You’re being so OVERDRAMATIC about Winston’s value. Regardless if he had more upside or not, and could potentially improve, you act like he was a once-in-a-generation player or something. There are tons of decent QBs in the NFL and more on the way coming from college every year.

Man… you gotta get over this Jameis Winston Grief Tour of yours. You act like we traded away Michael Jordan in his prime for a 4th round pick.

    @SPBF:
I had no idea you were a little under the weather.
Godspeed to you for a rapid recovery!

    tickrdr

  76. Tye Says:

He was a huge mistake… A wasted #1 pick in 2015… The Bucs wasted 5 seasons giving him every chance.. He just is not a Quality QB..
He is history and deservedly so… 2020 will be extremely greater without him throwing games away!

  77. WestChap Says:

Bruce’s apology sessions for Jameis last year almost broke me… but only because I thought he actually believed that only 10 of those INTs were the QB’s fault. Whew! He was just stalling for the QB behind door number 2.

  78. Oneilbucs Says:

Well yall can keep making every thingabout Jamies . He’s just another young quarterback that this franchise couldn’t develop . Ok he’s gone now if the next quarterback comes in and gets cut when will yall blame the organization for not developing a quarterback? It can’t be every quarterback . Even the Browns had Cosar we never had any body . Because yall believe everything that the national media tell yall. But every thing I stated was the truth and the last post rather you like it or not . You can go back and research my statements they are facts . Yall just go off the hate for Jamies so yall make emotional statements . But I go off facts and numbers just like the Payton Manning comparison . Again Facts …..

  79. RSJCheapSeats Says:

    Clickbait nonsense.

Coaches don’t throw their own players under the bus.

Per Rick Stroud, we now know the coaching staff considered benching Winston.

Jamies is gone, and the lack of teams looking to sign him tells you what football people think of him.

  80. vadertime Says:

It’s a new era. If I recall, the Bucs have gone through 1/2 dozen QBs in the past 15 years. Let’s see if TB can take TB to the promised land. Go canes.
