Alarm clock fonts gone?
We may have an idea what the Bucs’ new uniforms look like. And if the following is true, it’s a remarkable upgrade from those hideous things law-abiding fans have had to endure since the beginning of the inept Lovie Smith administration.
Paul Lukas, who has written about sports uniforms for ages for BSPN and now has his own site, claims to have seen the new uniforms and through his sources confirmed that what he saw was the real McCoy.
Unfortunately, Lukas was not allowed to take photos. So instead, he got a graphic arts designer to do a mockup, sort of like when crime victims it down with a police artist to produce a portrait of the suspected lawbreaker.
The uniforms were shown to me by an industry source who has requested anonymity. I did a fair amount of vetting to confirm the source’s credibility, and it’s clear to me that what he showed me are indeed the team’s new uniforms. I was not permitted to take photos or other visual documentation, but I was allowed to take detailed notes, so I will give you a point-by-point description of the designs — a fairly easy task, as it turns out, because the designs are very straightforward. As Bucs coach Bruce Arians recently suggested, they are very similar to the Bucs’ Super Bowl-era set.
Basically, the uniforms Lukas describes are very much like the classics the Bucs wore during their glory years. No trace of creamsicle though.
Fittingly, the disgusting practice of “color rush” pukefests the NFL shats on fans with will continue; Lukas claims the Bucs will have a feces-looking (Joe’s term there) all-pewter uniform. Joe’s going to have to concoct a way to cover a game without watching a game unless someone at One Buc Palace wants to reimburse Joe for ophthalmologist expenses.
Most importantly, gone are the alarm clock fonts! So too are the garish solid red socks that burned so many retinas over the years.
So rejoice Bucs fans, common sense has overcome a naked moneygrab.
If the images Lukas has are a correct representation of the new uniforms, these will look really cool — except for the all-pewter child’s pajamas.

Those look stale and lack creativity. Bucs missed a huge opportunity to come up with something new and brandable.
In my opinion, they should have incorporated orange back into the color branding. Not creamsicle jerseys or anything, but using orange more as an accent color.

What i don’t understand after seeing the “alleged” new uniform look, is why no orange accents at all? the 1st video by the bucs clearly show Red, Pewter, and Orange spray paint colors.

I love it. Don’t forget this is the NFL and not art school. Simplicity is your best option. Ex. Dallas Cowboys, 49ers and KC Cheifs.
A mix between the new helmet and SB uniforms is perfect. The orange is a supplemental device only why do we want to remember the Yucs?

Biggest non-story of the NFL off season. No one would care about alarm clock fonts if the Bucs went to the playoffs or the Super Bowl. I remember when the Rays revealed their new uniforms in 2008. People were up in arms that there was no longer a manta ray as a logo but instead a beam of sunshine. People hated it until the Rays were dominating the division and ended up in the World Series. Now, we wouldn’t have the uniforms any other way.

Agree. These are like 99% the old uniforms. Basically just them admitting they failed and don’t know how to re-invent themselves.

Only real positive is they aren’t worse than the current ones. Can’t quite grasp why it seems SO hard to design a fresh, modern, good-looking uni, especially when so many out there have come up with some great concepts for free.

F#CK YEAH. A return of the classic reds with some small detail changes. This is what I was hoping the entire time. It will be a tough decision between LVD and Vea on which one I’m going to choose if they’re legit.

I actually like this move. However, one thing I didn’t like back in the day was when they would mix and match the pants with the tops. I especially didn’t like the look of the red tops with white pants. It just didn’t look like they went together.I hope they don’t do that.

My biggest fear with the new unis. They pulled a “Jacksonville” in my opinion, same colors we’ve used, just a plain and simple design.

the helmet base is the white pirate skull, and all the pewter, black and red on the helmet is peel-able sticker…
then your helmet base is actually white…
thus – able to peel it away and transform it into a bucco bruce orange and white jammie for throwback day…

For those that were expecting an overhaul of the old uniform dont know league rules, all the could do was modify the current or the throwbacks. Dont think we will ever see the creamsicle again. Have to admit I liked the idea of white helmets though

I think they are missing out by not having orange predominant in the scheme. They will continue to look like the Falcons…sad!
I don’t get it, Licht is creative when he drafts, why can’t he be creative in the uniform design? Maybe incorporate a kicker in the logo.

I can’t believe how much negativity is on this site. When we switched, everyone was upset that we switched at all and the new unis, and I admit, were complete trash. Now we go back to a modern look of the best unis in the league and you guys are whining that it isn’t new and a fresh look? FOH
I LOVE THESE NEW UNIS! THEY ARE AMAZING! The moment sander did a mock up of them months ago, I just knew they were going to be it.

The logo on the current helmet is way too big and cartoonish looking. If they didn’t change that then that’s a big negative, in my opinion.
For those who say if they had won with the current ones, then nobody would care, that’s ridiculous. They were hated before the team even played a game wearing them.
Why in the world have a horrendous uniform that nearly everyone can’t stand when it’s the one thing that can be controlled. Even past and present players thought they sucked.

I’m not buying these being the Uniforms . After watching that first video release , with the ship logo having orange in it , I’m convinced the new unis will have orange in them . Remember last time they changed uniforms , they teased us about them , and they ended up being way different than anybody had imagined.

So basically they’re the old uniforms with an uglier helmet. Another stellar job by the social justice warriors at Nike…
Here’s an idea, go back to the old Reebok uniforms (I think they were done by Reebok at the time) — or even better go back to the old old uniforms with a winking Bucco Bruce.
Yes, this new uniform is better than the complete disaster that is the current uniform – but that’s not saying much.
Anyways, as always, Nike is an awful company that cares more about spitting on the flag than doing a good job. They need to be fired ASAP.

I’m ok with this for the most part but the one thing they missed I feel is accenting the orange more. I thought it would have been cool if they featured it on the shoulder pads more kind of how the the Seahawks accent the green. I’m also not a fan of the block number format. Unoriginal. Would have looked better with a shaper font along with sharper liking stripes on the pants. Would’ve been dope if we changed the primary logo to the pirate ship at the top of this page on the helmets. Thought it was supposed to be a more modernized version of the super bowl era Unis but it’s actually just a more dull version.

This is a bland look. I like that they’re keeping the large flag on the helmet, it’s the best part of the whole design. Now when you look at the SB uniforms, the flag looks so tiny. Let that stand out! I like that they got rid of the alarm clock font, but anyone other than the Bucs and Nike could tell that was a HUGE mistake.
There should have been a little orange somewhere. F the creamsicle uniforms, those were fugly colors and a fugly time in our history. But, it should have been added as part of a pinstripe along the sleeves or pants.
Let’s hope the official unveiling won’t be so underwhelming.
