Only One Franchise Or Transition Tag In Play For 2020

March 15th, 2020

Freedom rings for America’s Quarterback

The new labor agreement approved today cements one critical point for Bucs fans and observers of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Tampa Bay and every other team only can use either the franchise tag or the transition tag for 2020, not both, and the current deadline is tomorrow.

Citing an assumed Michael Bennett lesson, Joe proclaims there is no way the Bucs let NFL sacks leader Shaq Barrett hit free agency at 27 years old. So it appears it will be America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, getting set free to hit the streets and negotiate with other teams when the “legal tampering” period begins.

Who will want thee, Jameis?

It seems the Bucs’ streak of never drafting a quarterback who earned a second contract in Tampa will continue.

NOT THE BIG STORM DRAFT PARTY

  9. Cobraboy Says:

    Poor NDog.

He will have to take his Winston butt-snorkeling to another town.

    Lucky them…

  10. El Buco Realisto Says:

It’s funny that j0e wants to insinuate that the bucs would have used the “transition” tag on jay-lose!!!!!!!!!!!!! Joe will stop it here. Joe’s not insinuating anything. No reason to make things up. –Joe

  11. El Buco Realisto Says:

    All man!!!!!!!!

How about deleting the first sentence and then leave the second sentence so I can “realist repost” a year from now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It depends on whether the start of free agency is delayed, people.

Licht could strike a deal with Shaq, and then the tag could be used on Winston.

  13. Bucsfan0784 Says:

At least we will not have to hear complaining all day everyday about Winston. Im interested in seeing who everyone starts crying about next non stop. Especially if they get teddy and on 3 and 10 you start getting 2 yard passes

  14. Jean Lafitte Says:

They probably want to get Suh, JPP and Nassib signed first before they offer Shaq a long term contract, and then use the tag on Jameis. Then again they’ll probably cave to Jameis’s demand and give him 30+ a season.

  15. Ivan The Insider Says:

BREAKING NEWS: Titans passing on Brady. Making it now even more likely the Bucs can sign him.

  16. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Good. See ya later, America’s Interception Machine and Uber Driver Groper.

  17. Mort Says:

I still hope Jason and Bruce come to their senses and re-sign the best quarterback the Bucs have ever had. Don’t chase the ghost of Tom Brady. Invest in the next fifteen years of Winston.

  18. Adrnagy Says:

    Pay the man 100M.

    100m throws.

  19. Buc4evr Says:

Wouldn’t it be funny if they signed Shaq and franchise tagged Winston. The meltdown from the posters on this site would be epic.

If the phones rings it will be Jameis’s agent asking if he has heard from anyone, followed by the other way around. IMO Jameis will be one of the last big names to sing in FA and it won’t be early, scratch and dent bin.

  21. soggy Says:

More JW signed Easy to please Buc fan

  22. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

Joe, the new cap is $198.2 million. What was the old cap? How much more do the Bucs have to spend on FA?

  23. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @bucs4evr

Worse in that scenario, would be the losing season because of those moves!!!!!!!!!!!!! Meltdown indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Bucsfan0784 Says:

The old cap was 188 million so 10 mill more

Sorry Joe. went from 88 to 98. Give the Bucs 10 mil more to spend.

  27. TampaTown Says:

Why is everyone assuming Shaq isn’t getting a contract?

  28. Hethrew 30 Says:

Hit the road Winston, and DON’T try to take an Uber…actually dude, I don’t care. Cuz you are someone else’s problem now. GOOD RIDDANCE LOSER!

  29. RustyRhinos Says:

I can’t wait for the forced on us “nickname” Americas QB to land someplace else. Do we think that that “nickname” will continue in a new NFL city? I highly doubt it.

So two playoff teams are passing on Brady and the Bucs want him?

    Typical Bucs!

If they start him his name will be America’s Coach Killa..

  32. Check your sheet Says:

Brady signing for the Bucs would turn Tampa Bay into Buc fan central. Climb aboard everyone and let’s make a run at the playoffs. Let the turnover machine do whatever he wants. Tag Barret if you can’t sign him and turn the page on another of the losing chapters in Tampa Bays history. Better days are coming folks. Go Bucs! Good luck to the turnover machine. Thanks for the nasty roller coaster ride over the last five years. Won’t miss being irate at your insane give aways.

  33. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

I can see it already ,if the Bucs sign Brady…..the RayJay will be filled with fans wearing NE Patriot jerseys rooting for Brady…

  34. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @Check your sheet

No way brady makes it to week 8 without injury!!!!!!!! Its the bucs!!!!!!! The ship always sinks while leaving the harbor!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. JimmyJack Says:

I will have to assume the Bucs know who they want and know if he will be available. They need to just go get their guy and no playing games.

A few have speculated they might let Winston test free agency and then resign him. I think that’s a awful plan. If he’s your guy you don’t let him hit the open market.

My guess is if he hits free agency they don’t want him and never wanted him. Bruce don’t seem like the type to fool around with such a important decision.

  36. Check your sheet Says:

El Buco. I firmly believe with the money the Bucs have, we beef up our o line, sign a free agent running back or draft a new one like the Wisconsin rb, and change our offense to dissect defenses the Brady way. Brady knows how to use tight ends, both of ours are awesome, just not properly utilized. Brady is a surgeon at quarterback that rarely makes misreads and hardly ever turns the ball over. This will work and I believe Brady wants the challenge because that is what make him tick. Bring the GOAT to Tampa Bay. GOOOOOOOOOOO BUCS!

  37. BrianBucs Says:

Winston will find a cheap backup job somewhere, then end his career as a journeyman backup just like Leftwich did.
Bring in a REAL professional NFL QB as the Bucs haven’t had one in quite some time

  38. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

I think it’s obvious that they tag Jameis and offer Shaq $18M a year long term. If they tagged Shaq, they would only save $2M a year.

This way they could lock Shaq up until he’s over 30 years old and limit their liability with JW.

    Let’s go!

Super Bowl is in Tampa this year.

  39. Dapostman Says:

I think would tag the older JPP and sign Shaq to a 4 year deal. Also sign Winston to a 2 year deal with club option on the second year.

  40. Hethrew 30 Says:

@RustyRhinos…no one in the NFL uses that nick for Winston except the operator of this site. It is irrelevant, and bogus. No worries. He was never Americas QB, never a pro-bowler, and never will be. Let reality win the day!

  41. Hethrew 30 Says:

No, they are not tagging Winston. If they were going to tag Winston, they’d not be so cold to him out there in the media…

They’d look like fools to bring him back now, except in such a case that one other FA QB wants to sign here (not likely) and/or that no other team wants to pay Wisnton what his sick mind thinks he is worth (likely).

  42. kyle Says:

    check your sheet, im balling….

  43. mark2001 Says:

No problem…Jameis can afford the cost of an uber ride anywhere in the country, wherever he is offered a contract.

  44. Tvan101 Says:

    Well……….. Bye.

  45. Oneilbucs Says:

If it’s true yall think it’s a good thing ?? Now what rookie quarterback will want to play in Tampa . This franchise is a joke . Lol lol we finally get a quarterback that can score points and he did with no running game and people think that Brady is coming to this trash franchise ??? Lol if he does it will be for the money not to win . I can’t wait until the season starts it’s going to be funny to watch yall complain about why we losing . I’m going to sit back and laugh at all yall and this fake coach that came to a desperate team and fan base and just took advantage of yall while laughing all the way to the bank lol lol lol he dosen’t care about getting fired lol lol he’s on his last pay checks lol …

  46. Buczilla Says:

Imo Shaq will get tagged and Jameis will sign for top 10 backup money with some scrub team like Chicago. I wouldn’t be at all surprised though if some team were stupid enough to give Jameis close to 30 million per year like Tannehill just got. I just hope that it’s not us.

  47. Bigpaa43 Says:

Still a bunch of moron losers in Tampa. Bucs wont win regardless of who the Quarterback is.
