Martín Gramática: Belichick Will Pursue Jameis Winston

March 17th, 2020

Ego. Ego. Ego.

Buccaneers Super Bowl kicker Martín Gramática played for Jon Gruden and he was signed by the Patriots and Bill Belicheat in 2006, before he lost the job in training camp to Stephen Gostkowski.

Speaking today on The Martín Gramática Show on 1150 AM radio in Tampa, Gramática was adamant that Gruden and Belicheat are the biggest egos in the NFL. Because of that ego and the talent of Jameis Winston, Gramática said he is very confident the Patriots will pursue Jameis in free agency, especially since Jameis will come at a discount price and Tom Brady is officially out.

A Jameis signing would be such a classic Belicheat move to compete for a starting job. Gramática believes Belicheat’s confidence and ego will allow him to look past Jameis’ faults.

As Gramática noted, Belicheat had no problem winning 11 games in the 2008 season with Matt Cassel at quarterback. Joe’s not comparing Cassel and Jameis, but Cassel did find his way to a Pro Bowl after cashing in with the Chiefs in 2009.

Gramática has a close relationship with the Bucs as a broadcaster on their Spanish-language broadcasts, and he does not rule out Jameis coming back to the Bucs if the team strikes out on its Tom Brady chase.

    Bellichek doesn’t like turnovers.

So this idea only makes sense to the WinstonApologists.

  2. SteveK Says:

Bill won’t tolerate turnovers as mentioned above. I don’t see it happening, it who knows? As long as our Bucs get a fresh start!

  3. Lamarcus Says:

I remember that interview Belichick did when speaking high of JW on the MNF game. Ever since then Pat’s will be a spot for JW. Maybe it was their plan knowing JW will be free. Pat’s didn’t even try to keep Brady.

  4. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

    Beginning to look like Bridgewater!

  5. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Anyone wanna make a wager? Belicheat will NOT take Winston to be his starter. Not a chance.

  6. BrianBucs Says:

    That’s laughable.
Bill hates turnovers worse than anything else

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

Funny how everybody is down on Jameis right now. Mark my words..This kid is not done yet and will probably come back to haunt Tampa when Brady goes down. Its gonna make a hella story. Jameis will be just fine wherever he lands. You cannot keep somebody down with his kind of football spirit. He’s gonna keep comin at you. Thats what makes him Jameis. He’s not done yet.

  8. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Couldn’t agree more with the leprechaun with the once powerful leg ( in honor of St. Patty’s Day ). Belichick wins either way…Brady begs to come back to the Pats…or he resurrects/fine tunes a 26 year old QB with tons of talent/motivation. Arians boasts a big game, Belichick continues to bring it without the bluster.

  9. BucEmUp Says:

GOD I CANT WAIT!!!!!!! Brady will come here and get DESTROYED!!!! JAMEIS GOES TO JEW ENGLAND AND WINS A TROPHY HIS FIRST YEAR IN TAMPA….IN RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM!!!!!!

I really hope Brady goes to chargers and eivers goes to.indy.Please let.this not be true…..

  10. Jonny Says:

I would be very happy for Jameis if this were true. Jameis’ big problem is being too intense and caught up in the emotions of the game. Belichick’s coaching philosophy of turning his players into robots that follow command is something Jameis can absolutely use. Josh McDaniels made Kyle Orton look like a very good QB in Denver.

  11. #1 Pick QB 2 Cent Brain Says:

    Jameis would be benched quickly

Even when he’s had a run game and defense he’s choked and lost games

  12. TheBucsAnthem Says:

One of the dumbest things I’ve ever read on the interweb

  13. Tval Says:

Makes PERFECT sense. And it would be Bills BIGGEST win of his career if he could help lead Jameis and the Pats to a title. Hed show the world bucco is a pee-wee coach. Turnovers are relative, dummies. He wouldnt make Jameis throw 60 times with no o-line and running game. Only an IDIOT does that. And hes seen Jameis in the CLUTCH!!! All that matters to Bill is the LAST DRIVE. Jameis has “it” in regards to that.

  14. Dapostman Says:

The Winston haters even HATE it when Winston is gone and going to another team.

Proving it’s not about football it’s about the HATE for Jameis Winston.

  15. Couch Fan Says:

If Jameis can find success elsewhere then so be it. Best of luck to him. But he stunk it up in Tampa and the fan boys can’t spin their way out of that. They can ignore leading the league in turnovers since he was drafted but the rest of the world wont, THATS why he’ll come at a discount.

And for the love of god please follow him wherever he goes and let us real Buc fans have some peace in whatever direction we go in.

  16. Buccinfan Says:

Funny how “America’s QB” can’t generate any buzz as a free agent and we’re already a day and a half in the legal tampering period and no ones heard squat about the “Our pro bowl QB” getting an interview. Only hot topic is on these old qbs. I’m not saying Winston is trash if he’s coached well and In a good situation he might excel. But just not here or the 31 other teams. apparently we have been overhyping this guy for a while. Hmm. Jameis must have stock or is a co owner here at JBF headquarters.

  17. Marine Buc Says:

Winston would make a solid backup QB. If your team is down by 14 or more put in Winston and tell him to “just keep firing”… That strategy probably won’t work as well without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin but it would be fun to watch.

  18. John Says:

Could you imagine Winston throwing four or five interceptions in one game in New England??? if belichick didn’t run him out of town immediately following such a game the fans certainly would….
The bucs were very patient with Winston’s poor decision-making: interceptions, taking a sack when he could have threw the ball away and so forth… The bucs as well as the Winston apologist always made an excuse to not always coddled him…. I truly believe if Winston does not correct these glaring issues he will find the fans of his new team are not going to be nearly as patient is the fans in Tampa have been these past 5 years…

  19. Waterboy Says:

Good luck getting that 30 mil from Belichek.

  20. Lamarcus Says:

Belichick hates Brady so much he rather deal with JW than Brady

  21. ZZbuc Says:

I love Gramatica I think he i a great Buc, I think that his Football IQ is great, tons of respect,…….I think that he is right, Gruden and Bellicheck are the biggest egos in life, But I think Gramatica is wrong, that Bellcheat will pursue JW……I just don´t see a guy who turns the ball over so many times with the Ptas QB position, ….Just disgaree!!!!

  22. BucEmUp Says:

He will win a superbowl in rayjay this season and many more if he signs with new england

  23. DoooshLaRue Says:

Was Cassel a legit Pro Bowler or just one of those bs alternates?

  24. Umm Says:

Been saying this for a long time smfh

  25. ManzielMadness Says:

Wow…. I’m surprised… did not think there was a chance in h!ll that Brady would leave NE… Go make a run at him Bruce… and Belichick can have fun riding the Andy Dalton train.

  26. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I’d love for the GOAT to beat the Pats in the super bowl and Ray Jay next year. I don’t believe the pats could make it there with Winston under center though. I think it’s telling Gruden (who Joe says loves Jameis) grabbed Mariota as soon as the bell rang. I remember before the draft Gruden sitting doing class with both Winston and Mariota and loving Mariota.

  27. toby Says:

let us know when he signs with NE. i am going to make it rain with tp

  28. Ship Thief Says:

    Bucemup

Only an A$$ spreads that kind of $hit.

    Get lost.

  29. diggler Says:

Winston in New Orleans will be amazing. I think Payton would get JW fixed up much faster than BA.

  30. Craig Says:

Hope Jameis’ ego is intact enough to follow up on it. It would put some fire under our coaches to find a workable QB.

Foe Jameis, he might make it through training camp. If he does he will play maybe four games as a Patriot, about the same as he would have played for the Bucs, if he came back.

  31. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

30 INTs and 21 dropped picks

  32. Bucsfan951 Says:

And now cam newton is allowed to talk to other teams about a trade. The qb market just got even more flooded. Not a good thing for JW.

  33. Eric Says:

It’s early yet, JW will find a landing spot.

Rivers, Bridgewater and Brady haven’t signed yet either.

  34. DalvinCookRules Says:

This will be tough for Winston. Tampa fans could put up with turnovers, but Boston types won’t. He will be pelted and physically attacked by these fans (I live up here in Boston now for work purposes). I could see Winston getting suspended by the league for the slightest retaliation and that would effectively end his career.

  35. mark2001 Says:

Let Martin talk…but don’t ask him to kick a FG in Green Bay when a playoff first round bye is on the line….yes Martin…some of us still remember.

I think the Cheats heath would deteriorate worse than Bruces, after seeing boneheaded, game losing pick sixes like we did last year. I don’t think he is that desperate.

  36. Kord Says:

sounds like New England should just trade for Blake bottles, cheaper than Jameis and do the same stuff

  37. crazyBucs_CL Says:

…..so far in NO radio shows, nor news or media, his name EVER had come up…like he don’t even exists….only a bunch of FSU buddies here, are still fighting to keep him here and destroy Bucs for good…..

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  38. crazyBucs_CL Says:

…from the other side Mariota got his NEW home….. with JG… good for him…

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  39. WestChap Says:

So Bill is going to put his first season without Brady into the hands of Jameis? And, Josh McDaniels is going to try to fit Jameis into his timing-based, accurate short ball offense?

The Jameis Fan Club needs to take a Netflix break. IF Pats sign JW it will be a rock-bottom, minimal guarantee contract such that Jameis can be cut at no cost if (when?) he throws 4 picks in a practice (yes, practice… none of that practice is for taking chances BS… Bill knows that you play like you practice and Jameis throws picks all day long at OTAs, training camp… and game day).

  40. Clean House Says:

So let me get this straight, jW might be good enough for the best franchise/coach of our lifetimes, but not this dumpster circus?
Sounds about right- fire these clowns today!!
