Cam Newton Released

March 24th, 2020

“Jameis, if I hear of any openings, I’ll let you know.”

Cam Newton will take his 9-5 career record against the Buccaners to his next team.

He was cut by the Panthers today and it’s officially an end of an era in the NFC South, though it was unofficial last week when Teddy Bridgewater was signed to be Carolina’s starting quarterback.

Newton turns 31 in May and has the third-most rushing yards for quarterbacks in NFL history, behind Randall Cunningham and Mike Vick. Newton leads all QBs by a big margin in touchdown runs.

Joe’s just glad the guy is out of the division and hopes he lands with the Chargers or Chucky in Oakland. Get him into the AFC but it would be fun to face him next season (Bucs play the AFC West in 2020) before he gets hurt for good.

Wish he atayed we always lost to his backups!

  2. westernbuc Says:

There should be a 30 for 30 on the NFC South. Brees, Ryan, and Newton all in their prime. And if Jameis turns into something special, man.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Maybe that will wipe that $hit-eatin’ grin of Cammy’s face……..what a jerk.

It will be interesting to see which one gets paid the most to be a backup….Jameis or Cammy

  4. geno711 Says:

Got to think Winston gets signed sooner because he is younger and not with a set of really bad injuries.

    Right?

Or have we been over evaluating Winston all this time?

  5. Adrnagy Says:

I got Brady on a short leash. If he doesn’t perform well by week 5. We need to replace him. Or bench him at least.
    Goal 5-0 week 6
    Plenty of option at qb
    Newton
    Dalton
    Winston
    Gabbert
    Flacco
    Trade for Carr

  6. SOEbuc Says:

YAY!!! Don’t have to look at those ridiculous project runway pimp post game outfits anymore.

  7. BucsFIRE Says:

    Adrnagy Says:
“I got Brady on a short leash.”

    Fortunately nobody asked you.

  8. mark2001 Says:

Adrnagy… Winston will never play here again. Nor will Newton, Flacco, Dalton or Gabbert replace him. And Brady is on a short leash…two years. We will likely draft Brady’s replacement this year, and give him two years of intensive training. What great expectations for the GOAT.

  9. Bird Says:

Im gonna miss his funky outfits and head scarfes

  10. jerseybuc Says:

Ardnagy, have you seen Tom Brady play?

  11. 813bucboi Says:

    glad he’s outta the division…lol….

    wish you the best CAM…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  12. 813bucboi Says:

JW nutthuggers will be ready to protest on bradys first in-completion….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  13. Bucs Guy Says:

Cam and JW will both be back ups making considerably less money. I believe both will be eating a big slice of humble pie. There only chance is to go to Jaxm DC or Chicago to compete for a starting position. Maybe somewhere with an unproven QB such as New England, Denver or either NY. Otherwise they’ll be waiting for somewhere to have a season ending injury with no backup — like Detroit last year.

Cam’s problem has always been between his ears. And who dresses that guy? I believe his “fashion consultant” must have eyesight problems.

  14. SteveK Says:

    Adrnagy,

    Lol!

You expect 5-0 and a short leash for Brady, but you cheer on 3-7- Jameis’ start to the season.

Would you have the SAME expectation for any QB under center?
I do and that’s to win. I’m also realistic. Brady’s worse year as a starter was 9-7. Thats’s Jameis’ top mark in five tries.

    We have a better QB.

  15. Robert Says:

man I wish we had the cap *cough ME* to sign a qb like this as a backup!!!!!

  16. Hethrew 30 Says:

A classless QB that sill outclasses Winston by a longshot.

  17. Taylor Says:

5-0 with Brady or bench him for who did you say? Dalton, Flacco? Too funny dude

  18. JP09 Says:

@Robert, what’s with wanting to trade/restructure ME all the time. He literally has restructured his contract multiple times, he’s on the cusp of becoming the first player ever to record 7 consecutive 1000k yard seasons. The dude has earned his pay. Also why the F would you want to sign Newton

  19. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I’m afraid Cam is done. Watching him throw the ball with that shoulder the last 2 years was painful. It’s sad, because he was a great player.

  20. Adrnagy Says:

So what’s the expectation for Brady ? Licht? Bruce?

  21. catcard202 Says:

Cam Newton has NewEngland written all over him…Can you imagine what Belicheat would do w/ an athletic 31yr old TE/HB.

  22. Adrnagy Says:

No. Dingleberry. Let me correct you. Winning!
Learn something or is it that your rotten brain doesn’t have cells no more to think ?

  23. Adrnagy Says:

    Complete or compete ?
    Rotten brain …

  24. Adrnagy Says:

Arians… after you trashed him. Did him dirty. Now you’re trying to cover yourself as a good person ?

Bruce Arians says he’s called teams about signing Jameis Winston

Wow I’ve been told multiple times to get over JW cause “he’s not our QB anymore” but it sure seems like the only ones who can’t get over JW are the haters.

  26. Tbbucs3 Says:

And I agree Adrnagy, I was with BA until he said the Bucs were after Teddy Bridgewater as there 2d option in front of JW. That makes me question BA and Lichts whole approach.

I get going after Brady> Winston, but Bridgewater?? Why did he even feel the need to bring the up?

BA has treated Winston like trash after JW lead a very good offense for him.

  27. Patrickbucs Says:

    Bucs Guy

Bears passed on a trade with Carolina for Cam and traded a 5 for Foles. Bears aren’t signing anyone. Meanwhile they didn’t have to give up a pick for Winston and passed on him to pay Foles instead.

  28. SteveK Says:

    What’s there to question?

Teddy got signed and the panthers let Can go.

    Jameis sits in free agency.

Why? How do other teams sign Teddy first?

I’m sorry, I rooted for Winston, but the BS must stop. Dude turned it over too much to get a second contract with the Bucs.

  29. SteveK Says:

I’m not upset at Winston. He lost me with the lying about the Uber issue. Then he reinforced it with two more years of shoddy play.

Passing yards mean nothing when you turn it over that much.

Another QB could throw for that many yards if they were given the same leash.

I refuse to not be objective and truthful about Jameis and the Bucs.

  30. Ivan The Insider Says:

    STOP the Jameis talk.

He doesn’t play here anymore. Just like Josh Freeman or Gerald McCoy.

No reason to keep talking about Jameis on this BUCS FAN site.

Jameis was sent to walk the plank. Get over it already.

  31. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Jameis, Josh, and Gerald walk into a bar…

  32. Tye Says:

Ivan – its going to take some time unfortunately…
With their ‘idol’ being put on the shelf, the ‘Jameis fans’ have no other team site to contaminate.. Notice many still try to turn many articles into the same debate when the entire NFL (the experts) has spoken and no team seems to agree with their point of view about him..
recently as yesterday, Washington traded for Kyle Allen, giving up value when this supposedly (according to so few) ‘talented’ qb is unsigned and available..
best to just learn whose comments to discount and not waste your time reading..
they will fade away soon enough.

  33. SteveK Says:

    Agreed with you, Tye!

Objective, analytical Bucs talk is great.

  34. Ed Says:

Can someone please tell me what Coach Bruce, has won, that make him a great coach. Also can someone tell where are all those players who was lining up to play with i want the money Brady.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Didn’t Chuck sign Mariota?

I say sign Cam as a backup for a year. If Brady goes down, Cam will have a huge chip on his shoulder.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Panthers really messed up. There is no way Bridgewater lasts the season…and Cam isn’t the greatest, but he is much better than Teddy.

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Tye

So what? Does it really hurt anyone for them to be fans of Winston and to talk about him? Nope.

I’ll tell you what…if Winston signs for a team that faces us in the Superbowl…and beats us? We’ll really hear it then, and rightfully so.

  38. THETRUTH Says:

One mans trash is another mans trash , selfish players all
    About ME

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Ivan The Insider Says:
“No reason to keep talking about Jameis on this BUCS FAN site.”

    Bullspit.

Do we ever talk about Sean King? The Bull? Testicles? What about other positions? Do we ever talk about players on other teams at all?

We sure as heck do. Heck, half of you wanted Bridgewater. He wasn’t a Buccaneer, yet it was okay to talk about him? Not Winston?

    Get real, man.

Buccaneers fans develop attachments to players, and those attachments last after the players move on. Look how every DT is compared to Sapp to this day…and he left for the Raiders.

Nothing wrong with fans of certain players talking about them here.

I’d wager the Joes don’t mind either, since the more talk there is, the more traffic there is.

  40. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Frankly, I think if we’d kept Winston, the Panthers signing Bridgewater would have kept us from being the worst in the division in 2020. And I do think Winston would have been much improved in 2020 for us.

Winston is going to get on a team. The price his agent is demanding is too high for most teams. He’s going to have to sign a one year prove it deal. And he will prove it.

But we have Tom Brady, so I don’t see myself regretting letting him go. Especially if Brady helps us win a lot of games and gets us a second ring.

I do want us to draft a QB by round two though. This year, not next. Arians and Grady are on borrowed time, so we need a guy being mentored right away.

Sign a good backup, draft RT/QB round 1, or QB/RT round 2. Draft a running back round 3 or later. Maybe 2 of them.

    AND RESIGN SUH!!!!

  41. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

How I would love the Draft to play out:

    ● Round 1, Pick #14 – RIGHT TACKLE (Unless Tau falls to us)

    ● Round 2, Pick #45 – QUARTERBACK (Unless we take Tua in the first, then RT)

    ● Round 3, Pick #76 – WIDE RECEIVER

    ● Round 4, Pick #117 – EDGE

    ● Round 4, Pick #139 – RUNNING BACK

    ● Round 5, Pick #161 – DEFENSIVE TACKLE

    ● Round 6, Pick #194 – OFFENSIVE LINE

I wouldn’t mind some free agent OGs coming in to compete…along with a young kicker to compete.

  42. Tbbucs3 Says:

Welcome to the NFC South celler Panthers! Enjoy your 3 yard passes and 12 points a game.

Hope the Bucs send Matt Rhule and Joe Brady right back to college where they belong.

  43. Tbbucs3 Says:

“Another QB could throw for that many yards if they were given the same leash”

SteveK……You must be so used the Bucs scoring 25+ points a game and moving the ball with ease that your not aware of the real NFL, where most QBs struggle to move the ball on a weekly basis.

I love how you think the NFL is just a big 7 on 7 passing tournament and QBs can move the ball with ease.

  44. Tbbucs3 Says:

But sure anyone can just throw for 5,000 yards cause that’s easy.

  45. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Seeeeee ya Jackie O Newton! My grandmother called, she wants her scarf back!!! Punk

  46. stpetebucsfan Says:

NOBODY…at least nobody credible knows what JW’s relationship with BA was really like, or perhaps more accurately I haven’t seen anything leak about that relationship. Who really knows what it was like?

A poster the other day claimed to be a neighbor of a Buc backup player who told him that BA/BL/Moore/Christiansen all kept pleading with JW to take the check down when other routes were covered.

JW is a smooth con artist…like the little child who says…yeah I’ll do that daddy and then goes out and instead does exactly what he wants. Remember when Koetter called one play only to have JW ignore it and hit CG instead…not the high % play but since he pulled it off he got props.

I have NO way of knowing the reality of that relationship but I do not get the gripping going on her about BA’s supposed mistreatment of JW.

“BA has treated Winston like trash after JW lead a very good offense for him.”

JW put up three points in the second halves of those critical two final home games!!! That by definition is not a very good offense. BA must feel like Bill Belichek

“Stats are for losers,” Belichick said. “The final score is for winners.”

What arguments have JW supporters brought to us? STATS! According to Bill Belichik JW supporters…at least many of them here..are LOSERS!

Certainly at 28-42 “Blameless” is a loser.

  47. Tbbucs3 Says:

    “critical two final home games”

Nothing was critical about those games. The Bucs were out of the playoffs by week 16 and had a depleted WR core made out of leftover scraps. Lucky the Bucs scored any points at all.

“JW put up three points in the second halves”

And why don’t you ask Matt Gay about that?

  48. Tbbucs3 Says:

I’ve never seen so much importance placed on 2 meaningless week 16+17 games ever.

But Bucs fans only did it because it fit the anti Winston agenda perfectly. Jameis throws multiple picks and the Bucs play good defense (for once).

So we give a pass for Tom Brady for having a bad season in 2019 because of a lack of weapons but we put blame on Winston for Weeks 16+17 when his best WR was Breshad Perriman?

    Seems incredibly hypocritical.

  49. Cobraboy Says:

The GOAT on a short 5-game leash.

Man, casual fans can be better than stand-up comedy…

  50. Fred W Mcneil Says:

Brady was 12 n last year.

  51. Fred W Mcneil Says:

    12 4

  52. Buczilla Says:

Wow, for the Panthers to let go of a talent like Cam, he must be broken as hell. If there is no permanent damage, I’d take a chance on him if I’m running a team (including the Bucs). He is one flaky dude, but if he’s healthy, he’s worth a bit of nonsense.

  53. Jean Lafitte Says:

I think he will land in Pittsburg.
