Goodbye Peyton Barber

March 24th, 2020

Now plays for Riverboat Ron.

UPDATED 4:55 p.m:  Peyton Barber has taken his last snap for the Bucs.

The 2016 undrafted free agent signee from Auburn has just taken his talents to our nation’s capital as he will play for the Redskins, types Jeremy Fowler of BSPN.

Barber, 25, was a good dude and of course, he worked his tail off. But the NFL stands for “Not For Long” if you don’t produce and that’s where Barber found himself.

Last season Barber ran for the league’s worst yards-per-carry average, for just over three yards a carry. He’ll join a backfield that features Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice.

So now your top two Bucs running backs are Ronald Jones and Dare Ogunbowale.

UPDATED 4:55 p.m: It’s a two-year deal with some guaranteed cash for Barber,

Good person – wish him the best but he was simply average, at best.

  2. 813bucboi Says:

    carlos hyde?….

    aj dillion..lamical perine…

brady helped james white get rings…lol…not too worried about the RB position….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

    Good for Barber!

It’s obvious an upgrade is coming!

  4. 813bucboi Says:

now watch where this convo goes…..lol…

right back down the rabbit hole….3,2,1….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  5. Casual Observer Says:

Ditto Bama – A good guy. Wish him the very best in DC.

  6. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I wish him well, he is a good person.

  7. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Wishing you the best, Peyton Barber.

You always gave every ounce of yourself to this team & the fans that you had.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Peyton Barber is one of the good guys. Good luck to him. He’s not finished yet. A fresh yr in a new scheme will revigorated him. His tank is not near empty yet.

  9. gofortheface30 Says:

Hopefully Dare is next if the Bucs are able to get D’Andre Swift in the second round or Cam Akers in 3rd. Pick up Devonte Freeman (maybe) at right price and now all of sudden its a position of strength with Ronald Jones at RB3. Would be ideal anyway, will see what happens

  10. Anonymous Says:

Cam Akers please kinda starting to like AJ Dillion too

  11. Mister Positive Pete Says:

What position is he planning on playing?

  12. StonedBuc Says:

We need tarik cohen type back for brady. A dude who can stop an inside blitz, chip a de and then catch a screen and take off. Rojo as the lead back will be just fine. All those wheel routes that jameis over threw will now be otw to the endzone!

  13. Kansas95Buc Says:

So the guy who didn’t produce much gets a solemn goodbye….only in Tampa lol

  14. toby Says:

i wish they bring JW back as our RB. imagine even Barber got signed, think about that Joe next time you yell at Ira.

  15. Robert Says:

man, liked that guy, wish him well.

that being said I think Rojo breaks out and Obi is shifty as heck, now we need an Alstott type. I’d say put Vea in on goaline, but we also need someone who is a bull and can catch for the rest of the field.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Meh. The guys was OK as depth, but last year, just looked very sluggish at times. Not sure if it was injuries or what, but he had no burst at all by the end of the season. He was solid in that he didn’t fumble, and is an average pass blocker, which is good enough, has OK hands — but there just isn’t any upside there. Again, as a 3rd on the depth chart veteran backup, I think he was good enough to keep around. But I’m fine with not having him as well.

Also Robby Anderson got $20/2yrs deal from the Panthers. Wow… He’s not a bad player by any means, but $12m in the first year, for Robby Anderson? This also further explains why the Bucs need to draft a WR early, not a RB. You can get a RB for super cheap in FA – but even a decent WR will run you $10m a year. If there is no tackle the Bucs love in the first, that should mean one of the WRs feel, and the Bucs should pounce on one. Robby Anderson, and Funchess last year getting $10m, tells you exactly why.

  17. Ndog Says:

What how could this be? We were all set now that the only problem on the team has been replaced with the GOAT. Man what are they doing trying to mess with perfection?

  18. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Wish him luck. Might be a decent backup but running backs like him aren’t difficult to find.

  19. rrsrq Says:

Great for the guy with two great names, Peyton Barber, wishing you the best, the two guys in front of you in Washington, kinda of injury prone

  20. StonedBuc Says:

Robby anderson had mono boy throwing to him behind no line. Watch out he is way better then his production shows. He was open alot yet damn darnold missed the read.

  21. Tampabuscsbro Says:

LOL I am loving every second of Ndog’s salt this is great literally every article he says the same thing.

  22. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Glad he landed on his feet and got some nice change as well.

  23. StonedBuc Says:

Barber is a nice depth piece behind guice who cant stay healthy

  24. 813bucboi Says:

ndog still aint finished screwing the pooch….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  25. Bird Says:

    Tampabucsbro

No doubt. He is acting like he is 5
    Total meltdown
I think he is like 50 too
    So strange

  26. 813bucboi Says:

    happy for barber….

    time to step up rojo…..

    GO BUCS!!!!

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Good person, good Buc….wish him luck.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

StonedBuc – Anderson is a pretty good WR, but he’s not a $12m in the first year WR. In Carolina with that pencil armed afraid to throw more than 5 yards down the field Bridgewater throwing to him, I forsee about 800 yards and 3 TDs in his future. Again, nice production, but $12m up front for that?

  29. westernbuc Says:

Good for him. Great story. Maybe we’ll get a comp pick

  30. Ed Says:

Good luck Barber, will finally have a good head coach, who cares more about the team this his ego.

  31. gbobucsfan Says:

where are all these free agents lining up to play with Tommie?

where are all these free agents lining up to play with Tommie?

    Very good question.

  33. LordCornelius Says:

Glad Barber earned him some $$ but 3.1 YPC is bad, especially when Rojo hit 4.2 behind the same line.

Get an OT and one of the 3 down backs from this draft who can catch/pass pro- like the LSU kid – and this offense will be ready to go. Assuming the season isn’t cancelled/Brady’s arm didn’t go bad since last year

  34. VegasBuc Says:

Anthony McFarland or AJ Dillon for sure

  35. Ndog Says:

How are you guys not outraged, they are going to tear our new perfect team apart? I can’t believe they let him walk, our running game basically carried our useless QB last season. What are we going to do now?

  36. Jmarkbuc Says:

Looks to me like we’re gonna upgrade.

    Whatever Tom needs.

  37. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Anonymous

How about both if we get lucky, especially now that Barber is gone.

Cam in the 2nd and AJ Dillon in the 4th. Those two with ROJO would make a good roster of RB’s.

RT in the 1st…safety or DL depth in the 3rd.

  38. SC Bucs Fan Says:

NDog it’s free agency for fans too. Sign somewhere else. Somewhere with a reliable kicker.m

  39. Bucs Guy Says:

Barber was good for what the Bucs needed at the time for several years, but had a bad 2019. Good luck.

Forget Swift, Akers and any other RB in the early rounds. Get Dion Lewis as FA, AJ Dillon or Patrick Taylor, Jr on day 3 because the Bucs need a pounding RB. How often did the Bucs fail on 3rd and short last year? Then bring in undrafted RB or XFL RB to compete with Dare.

  40. BucsFIRE Says:

    Kansas95Buc Says:
“So the guy who didn’t produce much gets a solemn goodbye….only in Tampa lol”

    So what. Your point is?

  41. Ndog Says:

Come on SC how are you not devestated by this move, as you know our team was perfect in every way once we got the GOAT. Oh come on, you yourself have said time and time again we lost because of TOs and now the man accountable for 100% of those TOs is gone so what are we doing rocking the boat man, were messing with PERFECTION!!!!

  42. Sarasota Garey Says:

That’s one more for the comp pick formula.

  43. Kansas95Buc Says:

@BucsFIRE, seeing how you’re new here, odds are my comment went over your head. Its ok, you can go read the archives

  44. SOEbuc Says:

Always a hard worker and could’ve been a better player with the right pieces. Good luck PB.

  45. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Ideal scenario would be to move back to around 20 to take Jones out of Houston. Then use that draft capital to move back into the end of the first to take Swift. Take that guard out of LSU in the third. They need to sign Suh though because if they don’t that will need to be addressed very early in the draft.

  46. TBUC North Carolina Says:

Good chance Barber doesn’t make Skins roster… if we get a back that goes down sometime in the season don’t doubt that Barber could make his way back.

  47. Bird Says:

Everyone …i repeat everyone…ndog is more of a buc fan than all of you !
    😂

Yah right. He will be happy/cheering for brady to fail
What a hypocrite and we are forced to have to read over his childish comments
Can you imagine being this guys friend ?

Must be like having non-stop hot diarrhea

  48. BucsFIRE Says:

    Kansas95Buc,

Not remotely new here, and nothing goes over my head.
    Your point was lame.

  49. Kobe Faker Says:

    “48 hrs from now

    Bucs Dion Lewis signing

    RoJo hands are too inconsistent

TB12 throws RB screens on 1st and 2nd downs

Bucs fans have only seen RB screens on only 3rd down to a 3rd down pass catching running back when the defense and the whole world knows it’s coming

Not only is TB12 profiencent in the short passing game but he is great at the up tempo no huddle pace

TB12 will wear out the linebackers and safeties trying to cover Lewis and OJ

And than take shots deep to MEME and Godwin”

    Kobe Faker

  50. 813bucboi Says:

lamical perine is a james white clone….

we could land him in the 5th round…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  51. Defense Rules Says:

@Rod … “Again, as a 3rd on the depth chart veteran backup, I think he was good enough to keep around.” That’s exactly what I was thinking also Rod. He knows the system now, and is decent in pass protection & pass catching (he caught 84% of his targets in his first 2 years, then trailed off these last 2 years). Last year was actually an anomaly for Peyton when he rushed for only 3.1 YPR … in the 3 years prior to that, he averaged over 3.8 YPR. Still not great IMO, but good enough to keep around as a #3 for say the $1.5 mil per year the Redskins are paying him.

Good luck Peyton, you’re one of the good guys.

  52. Bucfan1988 Says:

Kobie, Dion Lewis confirmed 1 year contract with the Giants yesterday.
    He’s not available now…

  53. Defense Rules Says:

@VegasBuc … “Anthony McFarland or AJ Dillon for sure”. I’m been rooting for AJ Dillon for months Vegas, but why McFarland? I don’t see anything special there, but enlighten me.

  54. Defense Rules Says:

@Bucfan1988 … “Dion Lewis confirmed 1 year contract with the Giants yesterday.”

Don’t be throwing FACTS into the discussion BucFan, you’ll spoil all the fun. Next thing someone’s gonna tell us that we can’t sign Teddy Bridgewater as Brady’s understudy. Is there no end to the fake news?

  55. Hethrew 30 Says:

This is a good thing because hopefully the Bucs are upgrading. Can’t get too much worse. Nothing on him…he did what UFAs do, and didn’t cost a lot compared to high priced guys that don’t perform.

  56. Marine Buc Says:

Bring back Dare and draft an RB in round #2 or #3.

  57. Taylor Says:

Always was a fan! Good for him

  58. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I’m sure he’s a good dude, but we gotta improve. Best of luck in DC. Perhaps the orange man will come out to watch you.

  59. Tbbucs3 Says:

If you look up the word average in the dictionary it just says Peyton Barber.

All jokes aside, wish him luck. Not easy to be decent at the highest level.

  60. Gettinthebucs Says:

This might be pretty good for him. Redskins are a much better running team. Ron Rivera is there so he’s gonna get carries. AP is old and guice hasn’t proven he can stay healthy. I think Chris Thompson got cut or is going to be. I’ll be rooting for him.

  61. Joe in Michigan Says:

Best of luck, Mr. Barber! I was hoping he’d be the next Earnest Graham for the Bucs, didn’t quite do as well, IMHO.

  62. TOM Says:

Barber did it the hard way. Best of luck to one of the good guys.

  63. adam from ny Says:

brady must have said “nah” when asked if he wanted him as one of his backs…

barber got word, and signed elsewhere quick fast

  64. DoooshLaRue Says:

Ndoggy is like that little Benji looking dog with his favorite little chew toy.
    He can’t put it down.

    He’s so clever.

  65. John.L Says:

Ndog the river is overflowing from you’re Tears!

  66. Steven007 Says:

Ndog, I used to enjoy your posts before this JW obsession got the best of you. How many times can you repeat the same thing? He’s gone man. I know you’re a Bucs fan you’ve almost had season tickets as long as I have. Process your disappointment and let’s move on. Hopefully good times ahead.

  67. Steven007 Says:

… don’t turn into one of those OneNote haters like trollmax. And many others we can all name…

  68. SB Says:

I agree with all of you about Ndog.
I can’t wait to get home from work so I can read his posts. Classic, and makes me smile.

  69. FortMyersDave Says:

No more up the gut for 1 or 2 on first down. I remember when one of the Joes asked Leftwich if the defenses knew that was coming when they saw Barber in the backfield on first down and got a short “No!” as a response. I guess that is a positive and hopefully Leftwich will become more creative on 1st downs with TD12 under center.

  70. Clueless Snookered Says:

Sounds like the Skins are stockpiling Winston’s excuses to prep for a big splash. Watch out Tampa LV, Winston may show you some LoVe!

  71. stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m ok with waiting for Dillon because of his style. D.R. has called him a poor man’s Mike Alstott. Don’t mean to be disrespectful there is only ONE Mike Alstott but Dillon is the closet in style.

Dillon runs mean…I’ve seen Dillon literally throw would be tacklers to the ground as if to steal a basketball term….get out of here with that weak spit.

Dillon’s hands are as good as Mikes as well. He would absolutely be a target for Brady out of the backfield.

I still want another back…if Akers and Perrine go too high then it’s time to get creative. ROJO/Dillon and another genuine NFL back..not Ogunbawale.

  72. The Coroner Says:

    Good for him.
$600,000 guaranteed is a good day.

  73. firethecannons Says:

good for peyton barber–good dude that can live a great life on 600k pay day

  74. DerrickBrooksGOATLB Says:

Perfect backup/spell/spot starter RB who can always be counted on to work hard and do his job. Never thought he was a fit in BA’s offense though. One of those guys you hope does well and gets paid wherever he goes.

Now that Dion has signed with the Giants, wonder who we are bringing in. Still convinced it will be a vet to work with RoJo. He still doesn’t blitz pickup well enough which will be vital to protect Brady.

  75. Buczilla Says:

Thank goodness, this guy was awful. I wish him luck and he seems like a nice guy, but I don’t feel bad for him. When you are one of the absolute worst at your profession and you still can make 3 million in two years, it’s a blessing.

  76. Jean Lafitte Says:

We’re going to draft a back that excels at receiving.

  77. WestChap Says:

Offseason is going very well. We are signing great players and some others needed… while letting several sign elsewhere. We may get more than one compensatory pick next year given Nassib, Perriman, Barber, Allen, etc.

I was sad to see Dion Lewis to Giants… really hoped he would come join Tom.

Still hoping for Suh… and praying for a Donovan – Williams swap at LT. Interesting times at One Buc Place.

  78. IE Buc Says:

It has been said that Brady has had success and favors a pass catching RB. Brady would have been a great fit for Charles Sims. That was what Sims was great at. You have been nice to have him back for depth and to see what he could do with Brady.
