Bucs Bring Back Tanner Hudson

March 13th, 2020

The shining star of the 2019 Bucs preseason, a man who dropped red zone balls when the real games came around, was re-signed today as an exclusive rights free agent.

The Bucs announced tight end Tanner Hudson will return. He caught two balls for 26 yards last season and first made the Tampa Bay active roster late in the 2018 season.

Camp meat. Development at best. Other dudes stay.

  4. Allbuccedup Says:

There will be plenty of Tight Ends that will not get drafted. Thats how they got Brate.

  5. Pewter power Says:

Dude catches just about everything but problem is BA doesnt care about that, if you cant block you wont play so hope that is your focus this offseason Hudson

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Brate and OJ got to go while we can still get value for them. If not, they will be underutilized here until they are free to walk without compensation.
Just sign some blocking TEs and go get some draft picks for these guys.

  12. BucEmUp Says:

So the one position we utilize rhe least we resign a thrid or 4th string dude who cant block. Wow….

  13. orlbucfan Says:

Brate on one side and Hudson on the other side. Like it. Now who is going to be the QB and the coach who calls the plays????

  14. jmarkbuc Says:

    Bucemup

Better than a $7million TE that can’t block.

  15. DoooshLaRue Says:

I like him. He looked damn good in preseason.
Maybe he was just nervous late last season when he was activated.
I mean he effed up a couple of times….. that means he has at least 28 more freebie mistakes right?

We forgive a lot around here don’t we?

  16. Nick2 Says:

This guy was too productive in preseason to be called “camp meat” and I would put him up against OJ Howard until Howard can become a better receiver.

  17. tmaxcon Says:

Joe did Brady approve this move

  18. donuts Says:

    SuperBowl here we come!!! lol

  19. sincethebeginning Says:

This tells me they’re ready to move on from either OJ or Brate, whichever one they get the best value for – but one of them is going to go. My money is on OJ being the one leaving. Auclair, Brate, and Hudson will fit just fine in this offense. I would consider this an obvious sign that Hudson has improved his blocking to the satisfaction of Bruce Arians.

OJ is going to absolutely light it up in somebody else’s offense where they’re not focusing so much on tight end blocking– and there’s a lot of offenses that need a guy like him. He has way way way more value than Brate imho.

    🙂

  21. Sappattack Says:

This means Brate is going to be cut, traded or renegotiated. Great move

  22. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Mr. Preseason…with apologies to Ryan Griffin. When facing “live bullets” in the regular season, he looked handcuffed/overwhelmed. Perhaps he projects to a Patrick Hape/Todd Yoder type. 🙂

  23. TOM Says:

Howard trade coming. Restructure Brate contract.

  24. DaMayan Says:

While he looked great in pre-season. He really hurt himself by dropping a couple of his chances in real games. You really have to hit those early chances, as you’ll only get a couple. He didn’t get much targets after those drops.

  25. catcard202 Says:

Hudson, Leggett, Brate & OJ are all under contract now.
Auclair is a RFA & will be back. (BA has said so)

Writing is on the wall for a Brate &/or OJ move in near future.

(Brate is the obvious roster management candidate. But would not be opposed to moving OJ either.)

  26. Bucemup Says:

Preseason is about to be lit!

  27. JustBucNwin Says:

Didn’t Jordan Leggett (pride of my local town Navarre) sign another 1 year deal too? I think Brate and his big contract is as good as GONE!

  28. Craig Says:

Cool, does that mean that Ryan griffin might be in play next season?

The two of them really lit up the preseason and gave some of us some hope. Maybe this season they might get a real chance. Those flying ducks that Jameis threw were awful.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

If we ran an offense that used the TE this would be a nice move. But our TE’s don’t, and for some reason can’t, catch the ball.

Not that I’m complaining mind you – this was the 3rd highest scoring team in the league and blew away all the offensive records, it’s really hard to complain about an offense like that. You know, assuming you’re not a braindead idiot.

  30. tmaxcon Says:

    Joe

I just saw a picture of pete Carroll standing next to BA…. your boy BA is perfect for bucs. he looks like a rusted out double wide compared to pete who resembles adonis for his age…. bucs scraping the bottom of the barrel once again. This offseason will blow up and go down as one of the worst of franchise history. You know I’m right!!!!

Egos, desperation and short term thinking never works out….

    Hudson makes Brate expendable.

    Hudson makes Brate expendable.

The fact brate has bad hips, a bad contract and is 1dimensional that makes brate expendable

Tanner Hudson? Think Fred Pagac with potential of Jim Obradovich.
