Bucs A Finalist For Melvin Gordon

March 16th, 2020

Bucs reportedly in the hunt.

Finally, an epiphany!

If you believe a guy who traffics in make-believe football, then there is reason to put stock in a report that the Bucs are a finalist for former Chargers running back Melvin Gordon.

The veteran tailback from Wisconsin is a free agent and a guy who glosses himself as a fantasy football expert, Michael Fabiano of the NFL Network, has twittered the Bucs are making an impression on the versatile Gordon.

If Fabiano’s information is correct, the Bucs see Gordon as a feature back.

There are a few questions Joe has. The first is, what happened to this stable of mediocre-to-rotten running backs the Bucs have, which Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians referred to at the combine as “solid.” Guess not solid enough.

With the addition of Gordon, if it happens, would the Bucs give up on free agent Peyton Barber or Dare Ogunbowale? Or both and draft a running back along with signing Gordon? That would be smart.

Lastly, what does one have to do to become a fantasy football expert? Joe wants to know. Isn’t there some mega-money fantasy tournament in Vegas that draws hundreds? Joe suspects if someone could win that a couple of times, that’s good enough to crown yourself an “expert.”

Or perhaps, you just have to know a producer at NFL Network?

As Joe likes to say, the five most feared words in the television medium are, “We bring in Michael Fabiano… “

[Click]

(Joe can assure you Joe’s idea of “fantasy” has nothing to do with football and everything to do with a sultry brunette on a private Caribbean beach.)

Joe is very happy to know someone at One Buc Palace realized this team needs a competent running back. Perhaps too late for Jameis. Better late than never.

    Please NO!

  2. Lamarcus Says:

    Gordon is garbage

  3. Joe Says:

    Please NO!

Dare Ogunbowale checking in ladies and gentlemen.

  4. Joe Says:

    Gordon is garbage

Someone hasn’t watched a Bucs game in a few years.

  5. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Fool’s Gold Gordon…passed up 10 million a year from Chargers a year ago. Oops. Would be a huge mistake…

  6. Buc You Says:

I think Fabiano is just saying it’s down to those teams left for Gordon to sign with if he wants a featured role. I don’t think he’s suggesting Tampa is interested in him, but I could be wrong.

  7. Bird Says:

Yah. Not a big fan of that move

One year out of 5 where he ran for 1,000 yards plus
Tds arent terrible but he has been hit by injury bug

  8. Wesley Says:

No thanks, draft a r.b. instead.

  9. Lamarcus Says:

Lol joe I mean for a guy that’s suppose to be top tier

I know Barber and Jones ain’t that good so I never expected them to any more than scrubs

  10. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

He is not garbage, just not worth the price tag.

  11. MadMax Says:

For the right price, yes. But still draft Clyde or Dobbins….

  12. Ivan The Insider Says:

“What does someone have to do to become a fantasy football expert?”

    LOL…

What does someone have to do to become a “Bucs Expert” with the non-stop championing and excuse-making for Jameis Winston while using an anonymous moniker to write from? Especially when nearly every other industry expert is stating he isn’t a great starting NFL QB due to his inconsistency.

    Sorry, I couldn’t resist. 🙂

  13. Pewter power Says:

Barber is not under contract, dare is undrafted so I doubt this possible signing matters to the bucs when it comes to those two. And yes why wouldn’t you still draft a back? Damn being a smart a$$ about every report even something you said should happen doesnt make you seem smarter than anyone at one buc place, you just come across like a jackass.

People keep talking like BA should have come in pulled a lovie Smith and gutted the team without scouting

  14. Buccaneric Says:

This team will look very much like last year’s. This year we will get 10 wins. With Winston again winning passing title…

  15. Greg Says:

Joe loves falling in love with every name in free agency. We can’t run the ball well because our offense of line is stagnant and they do not pull or successfully zone block. They are fat and unathletic.. We’re also predictable and don’t have a full back on our roster. We fail to run the ball by design not personnel in terms of running backs.Spending money on Gordon will be a huge waste of money to get the same results.

  16. BucEmUp Says:

Please no!!!! I want nothing to do.with Gordon.Waste of valuable cap space give Ronald Jones a feature back three down role and stop telling the defense when.ita a run play..Wtf this team.is stupid if they pay this guy

  17. Ndog Says:

More absolute trash, they truly want to drive this entire roster right into the ground don’t they. My goodness this guy was easily the second best back on his own team to Austin Eckler a undrafted free agent. This entire off-seasonl has DISASTER written all over it.

  18. james west Says:

    john taylor

  19. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Mariota is contract discussions with Guruden and the Raiders.

  20. Ndog Says:

I forgot it does fit our montra of being a non-existent team in 2-3 years cause considering this due is always hurt he should be retired but then.

So if we get him the tally will be up to:
    Coach = retired
    QB = retired
    RB = retired
    Top WR = wash up
    One OLB = retired
OTHER OLB = Quality years done
    DT(Suh) = retired
    C = retired

Yes so excited we have to win the Superbowl cause after that we will be 0-16. Super excited 🤮

  21. mark2001 Says:

Gordon, Taylor, Ogunbowale…all former Wisconsin guys…and of all of them, Taylor is heads and shoulders the better back. Period.

  22. Ndog Says:

    🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢😶🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤢🤢🤮🤢🤮🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

  23. mark2001 Says:

Scotty.. you mean Jameis, not Marcus, don’t you?

  24. gotbbucs Says:

Now we’re using fantasy football people as our sources? OK.l

Gordon’s agent found an easy mark.

  25. nano107 Says:

    No thanks

  26. Ivan The Insider Says:

Poor little Ndog, having a rough day since his hero was let go to test free agency and he magically didn’t have all 31 other NFL teams ringing his agent’s phone off the hook to sign him.

  27. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

Does anyone remember reading that Gordon and Rivers wanted to stay together? Could this be a package deal? My gut is telling me Rivers is the right QB to take us all the way. Go Bucs!!!

  28. DoooshLaRue Says:

Hell no on Gordon and his attitude.
    Draft a fresh RB!

  29. rrsrq Says:

We won a super bowl with Michael Pittman and we are saying that Melvin Gordon is trash, pffftttt. If the price is right, he could be a great fit.

  30. Ndog Says:

When are you people going to learn all I care about is this team and these moves so far are not anything to write home about AND is destroying any future we could possibly have. But its ok I love not having any future at all to look forward to. Yes it is great not having any idea who our coach, QB, RB, etc… is going to be.

  31. Billy_45 Says:

I really don’t think that is what he was saying AT ALL.

If Gordon wants a FEATURE role it’s down to these 3 teams means,” If these teams were interested, he could still fill that void”.

NOT, the Bucs are one of the teams interested and Gordon has whittled it down to these 3.

  32. Lamarcus Says:

Come on. Let’s be real. Gordon is just a better Peyton Barber. Same styles. Just Gordon can catch and run. Barber cant. Or Dare. And we need to stop calling them to do out routes which gets picked every time if they are going to be here

  33. TexBuc Says:

Gordon held out last year because he believed he should reset the RB market.

  34. Mort Says:

Lol nah, draft a dude. Gordon ain’t it.

  35. OneBuc55 Says:

Umm..why would we sign a RB to an expensive Free agent contract when we don’t run the football… Personally, I’d rather feature Rojo than sign Gordon…I’d much rather Eckler

  36. YucLife Says:

Anyone else disappointed to see the Bucs not really do anything today? We could have gotten Jack Conklin ( 25 ) to replace Dotson and also could of added a safety or CB ?? I thought we have tons of money and now Melvin always hurt Gordon is in play 😳 I just don’t get it because we could of shored up the tackle situation for years, but do they really think that offensive line is good enough to protect a QB like Brady ? Now Teddy isn’t coming and would have loved to see Carr come here, but all said it was a disappointing day !!! Tomorrow they better show us something because all the top players are getting picked up ?? I would have traded Evans and Barber for Hopkins in a heartbeat .. not happy
    Sincerely,
Season ticket holder ( stadium club ) since 2000

  37. Alanbucsfan Says:

FA Tackle Kelvin Beachum played well for Bowles with Jets. He’s probably available for reasonable price and then draft Jonathan Taylor .
Gordon’s 4 out of 5 years ave was less than 4 yards per carry

  38. JGhoti86 Says:

Wow. Mind blown. The comment section really speaks to the level of quality (or lack thereof) with the majority of posters on these here pages. This is shameful and embarrassing.

I know a lot are just doing and saying anything for a rise and the attention…and to be “different”, but some of these are actual people’s “intelligence” and thoughts.

This is exhibit A of why I like my dogs better than 95% of humans (and that might be an understatement). I am not joking or exaggerating when I say that either, unfortunately!

  39. E Says:

    From the score
“ In five seasons, Gordon has averaged more than 3.9 yards per carry once. He also has just one 1,000-yard rushing campaign to his name. He does everything well, and he’s an asset in the passing game, but he doesn’t do anything particularly great. All of this is to say, Gordon probably isn’t worth the $13 million per year he held out for last year, or whatever sum he’ll obtain in free agency.”

  40. Jean Lafitte Says:

    overpaid Peyton Barber type

  41. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    JOE

you realize Gordon May be the second most overrated running back in the NFL next to Bell right?

You’re ignoring facts I know how trash you think jones is BUT COME ON

  42. Gettinthebucs Says:

As usual the bucs are bombing free agency. I love the team but between them and my Noles, it’s making want to quit watching football. I’m gonna give them a couple more seasons. Because of the Corona virus I’ve come up with another excuse if we suck this season😂.

  43. soggy Says:

Rumour has it someone at onebucplace reads JBF comments and want Ndog to work for them..

  44. Miller5252 Says:

I’m really not a fan for paying a running back that could on his way down. I just don’t see many backs having a long productive career anymore, it really takes special back to produce year after year. Do I think he’s better then what we got??? Sure I do! But can you do just as good in the draft for a lot cheaper so you can pay to hold onto your D and upgrade??? Yup! We need an upgrade at RB but I would rather pull a Lynch and stack the D line and find a trio of backs.

  45. soggy Says:

rumor, they need someone they can trust to text people they are clueless

  46. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

YucLife- not bothered by it because this was to be expected.

The whole narrative that we had all this cash to spend is BS considering we have so many fA and have to fill the QB position. Signing our own guys and building on last year is huge and the fact that we got our two best pass rushers on lock is a very good sign.
The most frustrating thing is not knowing who the face of the franchise will be next year.
I wish they’d just sign Jameis or announce they are moving on to out this to bed but BA thinks he can get his cake and eat it too, we will see.

  47. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Ahh moderation still?

  48. Ndog Says:

Anyone find it strange that any team that is trying to actually win, not sell tickets, doesnt want anything to do with Tom Brady? And dont bring me the Pats cause they have a relationship where they have to give him an offer or they look horrible. This entire thing is freaking ridiculous.

  49. Sport Says:

NDog is off the deep end. We made two quality moves. Barrett and JPP. My wish is coming true.

    Re-sign this Defense
Get a starting RT – I can wait until the draft, it’s a deep draft.
Add a RB. – once again, I can wait until draft, we may get into trade down in the first, then back up to get RT and RB in the first.
Leftovers go to a QB – NDog, there still a chance your boy could be our QB. Calm the hell down.

    In BA I Trust!

  50. ManzielMadness Says:

Thanks but no thanks…. find a better upgrade.

  51. Issac haggins Says:

Gordon is uh well better than not addressing the position I guess ,,,,, but he’s like a 6 to 7 mil guy at most !!

  52. SB Says:

So if we get him the tally will be up to:
    Coach = retired
    QB = retired
    RB = retired
    Top WR = wash up
    One OLB = retired
OTHER OLB = Quality years done
    DT(Suh) = retired
    C = retired

    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Top WR washed up?????????????????

You have OFFICIALLY surpassed T m ax as the DUMBEST Poster here
Dam Dude How do those loafers even taste?

  53. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

“Anyone else disappointed to see the Bucs not really do anything today?”

I for one think that they did a remarkable job for the 1st day. They tagged Shaq and signed JPP.

    Ever play poker?

You don’t show your cards until all of the bets are in.

    Now everybody repeat after me.

You have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them!

Know when to walk away, know when to run!

You never count your money when you’re sitting at the table

There’ll be time enough for counting when the dealings done!

  54. Bobby M. Says:

Freeman or Dion Lewis…probably better value and fits current regimes approach to roster management.

  55. tmaxcon Says:

When you care every year and your team has not won a meaningful game in nearly 2 decades that is the definition of insanity believing this year will be any different.

  56. cmurda Says:

You post the name Joe and the “fans” shoot it down. Tom Brady? Nope. We don’t want the goat. Melvin Gordon? Only 26 years old. 36 TD’s in 4 years. THIRTY SIX. He isn’t going to get top dollar after last year and he’s got great hands. There isn’t much not to like unless of course you fancy yourself a Bucs fan and post on this site. Rolling my eyes right now. I’d be pumped up to get Gordon. I also agree with Joe. Hedge your bet by drafting an RB in the draft but I wouldn’t go higher than round 3. We need O Line and D Line help early on.

  57. Jerry Jones Says:

@Buc You..you’re exactly right. Joe took the article out of context because he doesn’t care for Fabiano apparently.

  58. SteelStudBuc Says:

Ndog wow… grow up stop crying
    Jameis is a bum… you’ll see

  59. Tye Says:

    Mariota signs with the Raiders!

  60. SB Says:

Four years ago I was in first place in my main $ ff league. I had Melvin Gordon and David Johnson as my RB 1 and 2. They were KILLIN’ it for me. I had no idea there were only 25 waiver wire moves allowed on the season. Gordon got hurt week 12 I think. I still placed third but in the big picture where are Gordon and Johnson right now?
Either on or going to new teams.
    No thanks on Gordon.

  61. SB Says:

NDummy says ME is ‘washed up’
    I can’t stop laughing.

  62. westernbuc Says:

For the right price, I’m fine adding him to the mix

  63. AwShbucs Says:

I’m really bummed that we missed out on Conklin. Cleveland got him for a steal too at 3 years 42 million. I’m pretty sure we’re paying Donovan Smith more than that and Conklin is a much better player…

Pretty sure transforming our Oline into a dominant unit would have gone a long way towards landing Brady since that’s apparently who we want so much.

  64. BUC CHEEKS Says:

    Mariota to Raiders! Wow

  65. The Coroner Says:

    😱draft one
There is depth in the draft

  66. stpetebucsfan Says:

Melvin Gordon makes NO senses for the Bucs! ROJO stats last year were just as impressive and ROJO has a better catch % than Gordon and is faster!

I want a mauler to go with ROJO and runner by committee. If we were going for a Wisconsin RB why not simply wait and draft Taylor who blows Gordon away for a fraction of the money and is .2 faster than Gordon in the 40 and runs waaay harder.

I wouldn’t mind Taylor but I don’t wish to spend a #14 on him! If he fell to us in the second I wouldn’t be upset.

  70. TBUC North Carolina Says:

Not to break the subject on RB’s… but my stomach is starting to Cramp up severely.. I can feel it wrenching in periodic pain… say it ain’t so Joe!! Diarrhea is about to bomb out of the rear!! Is that diarrhea??? No! It’s JayMiss down in my porcelain bowl!.. returning to the Bucs!! Oh Crap!!!

  71. SB Says:

    How am I lying N?

  72. SB Says:

    Top WR = wash up

    That is your post.
How am I lying. Ok maybe I am exaggerating about you being ‘the’ most ignorant poster.

  73. Buczilla Says:

Gordon is better than what we have, but he is nothing special. He’s not even worth half of the 10 million per year that he turned down from the Chargers (gotta be kicking himself in the a$$ right now). If he comes at a bargain and we draft one in the first 4 rounds, I’m good with it. One year “prove it” deal for 2-3 million sounds about right for this guy, but I’m pretty sure that won’t be good enough for him. Plenty of running back fish in the sea. I’m just happy that we seem to be caring about the position again.

  74. Dom>Licht Says:

Jamies needs realize he is not getting 30 mill this year. Should take a one year prove it deal with ANOTHER team that actually RUNS the football. Philly … would probably take Wentz’s job when he gets hurt again!

  75. cmurda Says:

@stpete . Now, that sir is something I can live with but it would have to be Rd 1. Maybe trade down and later in Rd 1 though. Jonathan Taylor checks all the boxes. He could transform this running game. There’s only one problem. O Line is picked through in Rd 1 especially with the increased importance of the big fellas. You know what’s hard to get in the other rounds? Do you know what the Bucs need to improve on to be able to run the ball and keep any QB upright? O line is simply a more valuable commodity which is why I think we go FA or later pick for RB but use that 1st rd pick on O Line. Taylor won’t be there after Rd 1.

  76. cmurda Says:

This sucks. Look at the boring ass crap we have to argue over. I need Coronavirus to disappear and sports back in my life.

  77. Brandon Says:

Joe thinks he’s good but dude has played five seasons and in four he failed to average 4.0 yards per carry or more. Hard pass.

  78. Mark Says:

Sign Gordon at 20 mil per. Sign Brady. Trade him for Fournette. Draft rb with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks. Bring back Bo. Try out OJ but cut him. RB is most important position on the field. It’s impossible to win a super bowl without a great running back.

  79. Ndog Says:

SB what about the below is confusing? I clearly said IN 2-3 YEARS!!!!

    Ndog Says:
    March 16th, 2020 at 8:47 pm
I forgot it does fit our montra of being a non-existent team in 2-3 years cause considering this due is always hurt he should be retired but then.

  80. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Has anyone asked where all of this money is going to come from……..we need to sign our players…..
    Draft a RB…..

  81. Buccaneerscotty Says:

BA already said he wants his running backs to be great pass catchers and Gordon can do that well!

  82. Ndog Says:

You take sh!t out of context and lie. You done it before and you did it again so I called your a$$ out. Talk crap, argue all day, but lying is a bunch of crap.

  83. Bird Says:

very small market for gordon as expected

  85. Adrnagy Says:

  86. donuts Says:

I am not sure Gordon who is a prima-donna would be good for the locker room. I think we can draft a RB and save the big cash Gordon is seeking.

  87. Buccaneerscotty Says:

  93. SB Says:

Actually Adrnagy I apologize to you.
We have had our differences but not enough to warrant that response by me.
My bad. Stress and a cocktail getting the better of me.

  94. Matt Says:

I like what we’re doing so far, I know once we ink a deal with Brady a lot of mid level free agents will sign with us for a discount in hopes of winning a ring.

Please do not pay Gordon top money, he seems like a cancer in the locker room, I’d much rather draft a guy than overpay this primadonna. This guy is not worth losing our defensive line depth. Hopefully with the Browns signing Conklin they will draft anything but offensive tackle in the draft. We need to get either Willis, Becton, or Wirfs, Thomas seems like another Donovan Smith unless Suh leaves and Kinlawcis there. I think the 49ers get Kinlaw there if he’s available.

  95. BucEmUp Says:

Bucaneer scotty so can ROJO he proved that last season, it was his size and pass blocking that kept him off the field. I wish they would give him a shot.

  96. Firethecannons Says:

Much rather pull off a trade for Leonard Fournette
