Arians: Bucs RBs “Solid”

February 26th, 2020

Running back chatter.

For those that eat Pepcid AC on Bucs gamedays like a hungry child would eat M&Ms on Halloween night because Bucs running backs are good for producing acid reflux, you better stock up on plenty of antacids.

Yesterday when Arians took to a podium at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis, he gave no indication he plans to upgrade the running back unit. In fact, expressed contentment with the Bucs’ subpar running backs.

Asking what he thought of his running backs, Arians said, “I feel solid about it right now. We are always looking, you know. Really every position. I like Rojo. I like T.J. [Logan] And I like Dare [Ogunbowale]. There is always a spot for a young one.”

That is a frightening comment if true ,and Joe prays Arians was just being sarcastic.

But notice one name Arians didn’t mention? That would be free agent running back Peyton Barber, who had the worst yards-per-carry in the NFL. Worst!

If the Bucs don’t upgrade the running back position, Joe is honestly scared for what happens in January.

    While joe and the sheep are scared, All of the “Real” fans will be cheering!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its sad that we have to witness another wasted season, but it will lead to a full house cleaning!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Sarasota Garey Says:

    I saw that the Bucs have been interviewing many runningbacks and olinemen already.

  3. LordCornelius Says:

    I mean the fact that he didn’t mention Barber, who had 170 touches last year, is a pretty obvious indicator that the RB room will be changing…

    Rojo had a 4.2 YPC average last year and in his last 2 games had 25 carries for 183 yards and 5 catches for 42 yards. He wasn’t just some scrub.

    Melvin Gordon was at 3.5 / 3.9 / 3.9 YPC his first 3 seasons for comparison.

  4. TOM Says:

    I do believe Barber is gone & the Bucs draft his replacement.

  5. Joe Says:

    I saw that the Bucs have been interviewing many runningbacks and olinemen already.

    Every team interviews every player at the combine.

    The tip for team interest is when they work a player out. A team isn’t going to spend the time and cash to work out a player if they are not interested.

  7. Elita Vita Says:

    The RBs maybe solid but we sorely need an upgrade at running back. Let’s give the opposing defenses something to be thinking about. Let’s give our QBs a break. Let’s get better separation for our receivers. Draft a quality RB within the 1st 2 days of the draft! Go Bucs!

  8. LordCornelius Says:

    Real fans = people who root for organizational failure so that it can be blown up with no guarantee of improvement since it’s the Glazer’s calling those shots.

    Bruce Arians is a 2X coach of the year but yeah I trust the Glazers to do a lot better…

    Upside down world

  9. LaMarcus Says:

    Ba is on crack if he believes our rbs are any good or “solid”

  10. chris L Says:

    this is coach speak. everybody knows we need to upgrade. if the bucs falter because of whatever we do or dont do at QB or RB, then that falls on arians and he will be held accountable by the glazers and he should be. this team has no excuses next year. especially jameis winston and the coaching staff.

  11. BucEmUp Says:

    Rojo would be a top rb in the league if given a workhorse opportunity and if Leftwich would stop tipping his hand to the defense on every running play.Always a run up the middle, never a sweep, not enough screens, tight ends and was are always inside blocking with one wideout on the outside. The passing game is dangerous use it to.your advantage and get.the defemse.spread out.If rojo.breaks through with these wars out wide its a 20 plus yard sprint but dumarse Byron likes to dumb it down so much hes basically giving the opposing team an invitation every time they run the ball

  12. Smashsquatch Says:

    Simple posturing….. They will bring in competition from both the draft and FA guaranteed.

  13. Sarasota Garey Says:

    So, you dont think they will draft a runningback high?

  14. MadMax Says:

    That lsu rb, clyde edwards has really got me interested! He’s small but man is he a little bowling ball thats hard to stop. If we could land him in the 3rd or 4th, then patrick stewart for our version of derek henry in the 5th, rojo would be the only one retained and we would have a true 3 headed rb monster!

  15. tmaxcon Says:

    more proof the latest washed up has been that is sinking the ship is senile. every starter in the XFL at rb is better than what the bucs have had for years….

  16. JimmyJack Says:

    Joe I fail to see what is frightening about that comment. Leave the drama for the WWF there’s none here.

    He said he likes his players and they are solid. Not a ringing endorsement. Not like he said they are great and are our unquestioned future…….Heck the fact alone that RoJo seen a small worload is evidence he is not estatic about him.

    He also said they are looking to improve and there’s room for a young RB.

  17. Sarasota Garey Says:

    He said he liked Desean Jackson last year also.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    What do you expect BA to say….”Yes….we need to upgrade at RB…..as a matter of fact, we are considering drafting Swift in round 1 or Taylor in round 2……I sure hope nobody picks them before us”

  19. tmaxcon Says:

    BucEmUp

    So you basically want BA and leftwich to change thier entire system to accommodate a bad running back.

  20. jjbucfan Says:

    Madmax- He is my guy too, if he is gone Akers is the guy, if he is gone anyone else that catch and run. But Clyde is really special, IMO

  21. Cobraboy Says:

    Com on, guys!

    It’s Liar’s Poker season!

    Believe NOTHING of what you hear from NFL poohbahs.

    And Arians is prolly better at Liar’s Poker than most!

  22. Cobraboy Says:

    tmaxcon, you are a full-fledged idiot to take what any NFL coach or GM has to say this time of years with any credibility.

    Well, let me rephrase it: You continue to show your full-fledged idiocy.

    But, please: carry on. Somebody needs to challenge other JBF idiots for the title…

  23. Tbeartbb Says:

    Remember it is the season not to believe anything

  24. gotbbucs Says:

    Bad teams spend big time resources on the running back position. If you have a team that is ready to roll at most positions and have a good QB, then you have the luxury of using a mid-late 1st round pick on a running back, use him for 5 years and then rinse/repeat. Otherwise you sign mid level free agents to one year contracts and walk away at the end of the year.

  25. Siege the Bay Says:

    FEED ROJO

  26. donuts Says:

    Smoke and Mirrors = BA

  27. Defense Rules Says:

    Smoke. Nothing more.

  28. JP_09 Says:

    Off topic, but the more important subject, did anyone else here that tidbit from Arians about the new uniforms. He said they’re close to the SB ones but has only seen a sketch of them. I believe it was in the Florio interview, we can all agree that’s good news right?! Unless that’s a smoke screen too.

  29. CChead Says:

    If we don’t upgrade the RB position and Oline run blocking nothing will change no matter who the QB is. You can’t be a 1 dimensional offense and expect to win in the league.

  30. Will Says:

    Take a look at AJ Dillon from Boston College. Him and Rojo would probably be a good combination. Heck we might need to also take a look at some of the guys on that Oline later in the draft.

  31. catcard202 Says:

    Drafting SEC phenom Lynn Bowden in the 3rd rd helps solve multiple concerns…Slot / RB / KR-PR, the kid can do it all & at a high level.

    (Can confirm Bucs have met w/ him in Indy, already.)

  32. JP_09 Says:

    AJ Dillion or Zach Moss would be a good compliment to Rojo

  33. tmaxcon Says:

    Cobraboy

    I wish I was an idiot sir then I would not be right about this minor league franchise. remember the actual results matter not delusional bucfans opinions. let me remind your of some of the recent highlights….

    6 playoff wins in 43 years with 3 coming during the fluke championship year

    Lowest Winning Percentage in NFL history

    Proud owners of the majority of Worst OF NFL Records for TV Ratings, Attendance, Merch, Defense, Offense and Special Teams. There is only a select few WORST OF NFL HISTORY the bucs DON”T own YET!

    Last Meaningful l Game 13 years ago

    Last Meaningful Win 18 years ago

    8 Basement Titles in last 10 years

    Jameis was 7 when this team last won a meaningful game

    Blaming a 25 year old fine young man for a dysfunctional franchises failures is exactly why the nation looks at bucfan like the fools they are….

    This franchises failures go far beyond young jameis.

  34. Jonzey Says:

    Sign Winston and our defensive free agents SB, JJP, and Suh and get a OT in the 1st, 2nd RB, 3rd DT or a DE

  35. Clean House Says:

    TMaxcon

    I must correct you.

    BA is a washed up never was be

    He’s really won nothing on his own, but he sure does have a big mouth

  36. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    LaMarcus Says:
    “Ba is on crack if he believes our rbs are any good or “solid””

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Why??
    RoJo is DEFINITELY solid. He shows a lot of damn promise. His one weakness right now is pass blocking, which he MUST improve at. But he has shown a drive to make himself better, and I am sure he will be working on that this off-season.
    I am certainly not opposed to adding another young RB with big potential…. but I do like what I see in RoJo.
  37. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    BucEmUp Says:
    “Rojo would be a top rb in the league if given a workhorse opportunity”
    ~~~~~~~~~~

    And if he learns to pass protect.
    AGREED. 100%

  38. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Siege the Bay Says:
    “FEED ROJO”

  39. Cobraboy Says:

    tmaxcon: Your idiocy and the state of the franchise are in no way connected. Non-Sequitur.

    You are a one-note charlie.

  40. Defense Rules Says:

    Tmaxcon … “I wish I was an idiot sir”. Come on tmax, you know the old saying …

    ‘Be careful what you wish for’.

  41. TBUC North Carolina Says:

    Agree w Demon!! Rojo has the desire to learn!! 3rd to 5th round back to replace Barber will do!

  42. Defense Rules Says:

    Must be getting slow in my ‘advanced age’ Joe. It’s taken me this long to realize that every time I mention ‘tmaxcon’ or ‘tmax’ in a comment, I end up in the moderation dungeon. I ASSUME that’s where you keep tmax?

  43. TOM EDRINGTON Says:

    “Solid” like a nice fat day-after a Porterhouse consumed — Turd!

  44. PSL Bob Says:

    Smoke screen. RB in 2nd or 3rd round. I hope we pick up a hybrid FB to pair with ROJO in the second round.

  45. martinii Says:

    Agree with TBBF, why tip your hand until April unless you like your QB throwing for over 5000 yards. His rational for rookie OL makes sense, this comment is a diversion.

  46. BucEmUp Says:

    Tmax, at what point did I suggest anyone change the entire offensive system? Please copy and past anything I typed other than wanting them to make the running game anything but predictable.

  47. This Guy Says:

    The Bucs will be adding an every down back BA has said multiple times that he wants and uses backs the do not come off the field.

    As for Barber having the worst yds/carry, you have to remember he also faced stacked boxes 8th most. No excuse good/great backs overcome, but it is tough to run the ball when you are facing stacked boxes.

  48. Bird Says:

    I agree …everyone Already knows tmax is an idiot

    He still thinks Mccoy is on the team

  49. Pewter power Says:

    Exaggerating as usual and leaving out key information and taking bits and pieces of an interview and creating misinformation yep that’s what the pro writers do or otherwise just tell you everything they plan To do in the draft lol wow talk about panic writing. They’ll want a veteran in free agency likely and will draft a guy to push the bottom of the roster unless Winston is back then they better draft high to keep him from throwing picks all over the place again.

    He didnt go full blown lovie Smith last year and gave guys a chance to prove himself so he knows more than you joe so they know where the weaknesses are after watching the guys in their system not dirks. Guess you need to hit the bar and take xanax instead of trying to get us to panic knowing full well we weren’t going to get real answers this week

  50. LaMarcus Says:

    Demon

    Rojo is not that good. Borderline garbage. And whoever believes he is good needs a new hobby

  51. Pugs&Bucs Says:

    “Turds” are solid too.

  52. Buczilla Says:

    The running back situation is one of the main reasons why I have not fully bought into Arians and his staff. Fix the damn position coach Arians!

    ‘Be careful what you wish for’.

    i hope you are correct sir. i am tired of being right about how crappy this franchise is.

  54. SOEbuc Says:

    Most likely all top RB will be available in the second round. Gimme Jonathan Taylor or JK Dobbins to partner up with RoJo. They know Jameis (who will return) needs help in the run game for his game to improve. SSSSSMOKIN’

  55. Alanbucsfan Says:

    ROJO can play whether you see it or not, Joe.
    He just needs to sharpen his pass rush pickup skills

  56. Craig Says:

    Another run blocking o-line guy could help the run game. Another RB would help it even more. A QB that can throw screen passes would be even better.

  57. Dano Says:

    I just read Bucs really like Cam Akers a lot. He’s an all purpose back & played well despite playing behind a horrible Oline. Hope they get him!
