Ranking The Free Agents

February 20th, 2020

Highly-ranked free agent.

So where do Bucs free agents stand with the rest of the NFL’s free agents? And what about potential Bucs’ targets?

One of the smartest guys Joe knows who breaks down the NFL for a living, Evan Silva, decided to rank his top-100 free agents for his site, EstablishTheRun.com. Silva, formerly of Rotoworld.com, has interesting insight.

First, he has Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, as the No. 5 free agent, ahead of Philip Rivers and just behind Drew Brees (Silva acknowledges Brees is staying in New Orleans) and Tom Brady.

Silva has Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, who could be a tag-and-trade guy at No. 9, ranked highest among defensive players.

Interesting rankings for edge rushers. Silva has Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett at No. 12, and at No. 13 is Jags defensive end and Joe’s mancrush Yannick Ngakoue.

At No. 16 is Broncos corner Chris Harris. At No. 17 is Seahawks outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney.

Down the list is a player some Bucs fans want the team to target. At No. 32 is Saints backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who Silva labels a “game manager.” At No. 36 is gimmick backup quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Versatile running back Melvin Gordon is at No. 46. Bucs defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh (No. 64) is slotted just ahead of the notorious Ronald Darby (No. 65), current Eagles corner.

Former Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is ranked No. 72.

“Notorious Ronald Darby”…. you mean America’s Grop…..errrr, Quarterback’s off the field running mate?

  2. ShepherdingTheVacuous Says:

Yeah…Evan Silva is a sharp cat. Especially his previous fantasy breakdowns every weekend for Rotoworld. Founding member at PFT with Florio too.

Only issue with “ranking” free agents is those will likely mean different to each acquiring team, and perceived youth skews the rankings too, i.e. Brady means a whole lot more to us than Rivers or Winston.

  3. Youngbucs Says:

Yawn u people wish Winston was # 5 free agent and tmaxcon u killed McCoy why does Winston get a pass let the excuses flow

  4. Lol Says:

What a horrible list. Hey Joe do you want to use my top 100 free agent list too? I can also make a mean mock draft.. just let me know, seems like you all are starved for content right now.

  5. D-Rome Says:

“NFL’s highest-volatility QB nevertheless likely to land $20 million average.”

    So much for $30 million.

    d rome ,

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly considered signing Jameis Winston to a two-year contract with a team option in the second year.

According to ESPN’s Jenna Laine, such a deal would likely pay Winston $27 million per season, which is about the same as the franchise tag for quarterbacks. Only the first year would be guaranteed.

  7. Dewey Selmon Says:

Adrnagy, I could live with that, still need to draft a Qb in rds 2-5

  8. NPRSageBoy. Says:

Hearing reports from Jenna Laine that Bucs considering two year deal with JayMiss:

    Year One: $27M fully guaranteed.
    Year Two: Club Option

    Two things to consider:

    1) Who draws the short straw and has to face local fan base with BS story that JayMiss is “best option” with a straight face.

    2) I guess my season tickets won’t be renewed.

    Peace, out

  9. Adrnagy Says:

I didn’t come here to rebuild.

  10. FB Moderated!! Says:

I am not a fantasy guy, and never will be. I also don’t take much stock in fantasy talking heads. that said, Americas bucs fan is super happy with this take given how high Jameis is. However please note that Jamies is everyone’s favorite fantasy player because you can win with his stats and play the opposing defense and rack up the points. America’s entertainment not necessarily good football!

  11. gotbbucs Says:

Where was Shaq Barrett ranked last year?

  12. TampaBay AllDay Says:

I still cant believe SB didn’t get DPOY. His numbers were off the charts. Pay that man.

  13. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Is it too far-fetched to think that Shaq did not become DPOY because he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

In spite of the one Super Bowl win our franchise is not respected around the country in general. We do have real fans around the world though. A winning season will make many forget the past quickly.

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

Can someone explain the policing system the NFL has in place to monitor FA contracts and “off contract” $$$. So somebody like Jerry Jones has plenty of “business opportunities” to offer Dak Prescott in addition to his “salary” on the books.

Just like the stud athlete gets the cushy job at bigtime college athletic program and the NCAA tries to keep track…who is checking on NFL owners to make sure they are not manipulating the cap?

  15. Swampbuc Says:

He got Geraldine pretty close. Maybe Too high — I’d put the Charmin Man more like 80.

  16. Buczilla Says:

Normally I’d say that anyone ranking Jameis that high is as dumb as a box of rocks, but he has other average to below average quarterbacks ranked very highly as well, stressing the importance of the position I guess. 20 million per seems fair for both sides as long as the deal is 2 years or less. Much more than that and Jameis needs to go.
