Ira Makes His Case

February 1st, 2020

Video of “The Sage,” Ira Kaufman, delivering his Hall of Fame presentation for John Lynch.

As we all know, former Bucs great John Lynch is up for selection for the Pro Football Hall of Fame today, the seventh consecutive year.

And for the seventh consecutive year, JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman made his sales pitch to Hall of Fame voters.

Uncle Ira, the lone voter from the Tampa Bay area, is once again in for a fight. In a rare peek inside “the room,” where the Hall voters hash it out to whittle the 15 Hall of Fame finalists to the five to be enshrined this summer in Canton, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Twitter account published an excerpt of Uncle Ira’s presentation pitch for Lynch.

You can watch the video below. (Ira is presented on JoeBucsFan.com by Bill Currie Ford.)

    Go Sage!

Get John enshrined and thanks for all your hard work.

Still looking for a name for the puppy? How about Kobe? Kobe Kaufman.

    LOL

If his beloved Chiefs win, Joe’s willing to lay cash he names the new pup “Patty.” 🙂

(Joe has zero inside info on this by the way.)

  3. SteveK Says:

Haha! Patty is a great name. Or even “Andy”?

  4. El Buco Realisto Says:

Shame that the sage is not presenting the “real” hall of Famer for the Bucs, Rhonde Barber!!!!!!!
    !!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  5. SteveK Says:

Just listened the sound byte. Really good presentation. Hopefully Lynch gets in today. He’s a HOF player and should eventually make it. The point about no defensive player being a finalist for more than seven consecutive years is damning. I hope some other grey beard speaks up and rightfully pays Lynch his due.

  6. SteveK Says:

    Realist,

I agree that Ronde is HOF. Combine his revolution of the position, longevity, games played streak, adequate at multiple schemes, and his INT/Sack numbers are rare.

Ronde was incredibly solid for s very long time. Love his approach to the game and work ethic. His pick six against McNabb is the greatest sports play I’ve ever seen and the best of this franchise. That play got us over the hump. Ronde was such a heady player, never in the wrong position. Sometimes he got beat, but never for being a dumb ass.

  7. Ndog Says:

The only question is if Ira will be making the case for Jameis in the future for the HOF or will it be someone else from a different market? 😏

  8. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @ndog

It’s more likely that Ira would give a deposition about Jw3 before any presentation to the hall of fame for about jw3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Ndog Says:

Yeah cause of all those times he’s been arrested. Oh wait he’s never been arrested, but we’ll just ignore facts, just like you always do right?

  10. Howard Cosell Says:

Lynch is the only player I know of to ever become a GM….and a very successful GM.That alone shows that his contribution to the Bucs defense were probably underrated…..HoF? Absolutely!

  11. MirrorMirrowOnTheWall Says:

If John Lynch is not in Ira should be fired. Should have been fired. It is an easy decision.

  12. Jean Lafitte Says:

I think Uncle Ira will get Lynch over the hump.

    Nice job Uncle Ira

rest easy and start work on Barber and Rice

  13. JimmyJack Says:

Lynch was my favorite Buc from way back when. I’d watch that defense and I always had an eye on the top of the screen knowing Lych more often then not would come flashing in and Everytime in perfect position to make the play.

I could only imagine what it would be like thrying to play offense against him. As a fan my eye was always on him. As a player you know they had be be aware of him at all times. He was just one of them guys that you know was in the heads of the opposing teams.

So much greatness that you can never put a number on!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  14. Jean Lafitte Says:

Jameis has to have a fkn winning season before trying to get in the HOF moron

Time is running out ..another 5 seasons he’ll be in his 30’s

  15. SB Says:

Only Ndog would try to make this thread about his man crush. SMDH

  16. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    Probably 0-8 after today

Ira might be the King of New Port Richey and the only JBF writer to have journalistic integrity to put his name on his articles but I doubt he has the pull he needs to get Lynch in

  17. SteveK Says:

Great reply, realist, but what’s new?

I hope your offseason wisdom/gems are in full throttle!

  18. Ndog Says:

I just figured I’d beat SteveK to it.

  19. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @SteveK

    I will

  20. Ho hum... Ira who? Says:

I bet if Lynch played for the Chiefs Ira would put more effort into it. I don’t believe anything Ira says or writes about the Bucs anymore knowing he is a Chiefs fan! His buddy Joe will most likely censure this.

It’s blasphemous that we still have stupid fans that can’t spell Ronde’s name correctly.

  22. soberinsac Says:

the older Bucs fans know how integral Lynch was to the defense. He was a leader in the secondary like none other. Brooks the leader of the linebackers, Sapp the leader of the D line, and Lynch the leader of the secondary. That was in the top 10 for almost a decade before he went to the Broncos. I still remember the reason to let him go was his neck issues. I thought then letting him go was a mistake. He is a extremely smart person and he would have quit before risking his life. Growing up in the 90’s seared in my memory is Brooks, Sapp, Lynch and Alstott. I still love Brad Culpepper, Nickerson, Kelly, Abraham, Barber, Quarles on and on. But those 3 Brooks , Sapp, Lynch were the heart and soul. Lynch should be in the HALL period.

  23. SteveK Says:

    Brandon,

Realist is making fun of those who mispronounced Ronde’s name. It’s an inside joke.

    Done it.

  25. Mr. Reality Says:

Ira has had a great career, but face it, he doesn’t carry the clout he once did because he does not work for a major Tampa Bay sports media outlet. No offense, but it’s not like he’s a guy with Fox Sports, or ESPN, or other organizations with reputation and achievements. Sadly, with the demise of the Tribune, and only TBT left, sports teams themselves are fighting uphill for fan recognition.

  26. Mr. Reality Says:

I can’t think of a better safety than John Lynch, but keep in mind too, it’s about how popular a guy is as well as how good player he is. Which gets me back to media and Tampa Bay players. Guys like Sapp and Brooks did it despite local media, not because of the support. Yes, Ira was fabulous in those.

  27. Clean House Says:

Perhaps they had to pick Atwater before lynch
He was a ferocious bruiser whom ai remember well. Him and Lott the forerunners for lynch.

    Lynch will get in eventually

  28. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I think the HOF should be more exclusive than it is. If a player has to have a reporter lobby for his induction for 7+ years is he really a hall of famer. Loved Lynch as a player, but if it is such a struggle to get him in he probably isn’t deserving. I would prefer that only the slam dunk, first year induction guys were let in.

  29. bojim Says:

    Good try Ira.

  30. Steve From Oregon Says:

At some point will somebody say maybe Ira is not the person to be making the case.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    Give it more time.

    It’ll get done!

    “Brandon,

Yes, but as a sporadic drunk we could use a little less inside jokes…even though it’s well and good with us JBF vets, it makes reading easier!
