Shaq Barrett Gaining Ground

December 12th, 2019

Big year gets better.

This Shaq Barrett’s year is going so well, he doesn’t even step on the field and he gets a half-sack.

Barrett, who leads the NFL in sacks, had a half-sack last Sunday against he Colts. That gave him 15 sacks. Or so we thought.

The NFL goes over all game film to determine whether key stats are accurate, as Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com pointed out. And in doing so, the sack Barrett shared Sunday with Will Gholston was instead fully awarded to Barrett.

Therefore, Barrett now has 15.5 sacks. That also means he is one sack from tying Warren Sapp’s Bucs single-season record at 16.5 sacks.

Now Barrett just needs one sack to tie Sapp in the next three games, or 1.5 sack to set a new Bucs single-season record.

Meanwhile, the meter keeps spinning at the office of Barrett’s agent, the notorious oily Drew Rosenhaus.

The team seems to be on an upward trajectory even if they’ve beaten 3 bad teams. It’s good for their confidence.
ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO KEEP THIS GUY.

Don’t be the typical Bucs and let him get away. All we’ve heard for years is how bad the pass rush is and no one can get to the QB. They now have someone who CAN AND DOES get to the QB.

SO KEEP HIM. don’t gamble on a “maybe” in the draft. This team has overpaid for FA’s in the past that have stunk to high heaven. If you’re gonna overpay to get or keep someone then this guy qualifies. Don’t be the RAYS and trade away talent for nothing and say you’re trying to compete.

And for the love god find a way to make WINSTON STOP THROWING PICKS AND THE TEAM CAN WIN SOME GAMES NEXT SEASON. And stfu with all the race card crap about WINSTON. you people are absolutely PATHETIC.

All people want is CONSISTENCY. is that too much to ask for? To know which QB is gonna show up week to week? It’s not about race. Everyone loves SHAQ.
Pretty sure he and Winston are the same color morons. If Winston stops throwing picks every other drive and the team around him gets better then people will jump right back on board.

We’re all just super tired of the turnovers. And STFU about Favre and Manning those two could put the team on their backs and win games whether the team around them was great or not. Manning’s teams had bad defenses to and they still won a ton of games.

And who really gives a fu$k what Manning and favre did anyway with respect to Winston? It’s about now not the past. I mean dam# it can’t be that hard to stop turning the ball over and that’s all people want.

This season is done. Draft well and hope for the best next season.

We knew this was coming even the Announcers called it during the game….

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There wasn’t any doubt that sack was all Shaq…..

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs must find a way to keep Shaq, even if it means using the franchise tag. As good as he is though, it’s the rest of our beastly DLine that sets him up for success. Teams can scheme around him to a degree, but with JPP on the field (and Vea & Suh anchoring the middle) it’s a matter of ‘picking your poison’. Focus on Shaq & JPP will feed, and vice-versa.

But as good as those two are, opposing OLines have to put extra focus on blocking BOTH Vea AND Suh first or the middle collapses. Those 4 especially have learned how to play together very well. JPP & Suh are the ‘wily veterans’ who really make it go. Bucs NEED to re-sign ALL THREE … JPP, Suh & Barrett … to contend next year & the year after. We know what we’ve got in those 3. Draft at least 1 replacement high but don’t count on the same level of productivity his 1st year.

  5. PragueBucsFan Says:

DR i approve of your post completely.

  6. SickofLosing Says:

The tag for Barrett won’t be that expensive about 16 mil versus the 20mil plus he’d get on the market. I wonder how much his hometown discount would be to stay here multi year. DR, is right about the whole group needing to come back, question is how much is that going to cost, 10mil for JPP, 8 mil Nassib, 8 mil Suh, that’s 42 mil already out of approximately 90 in cap space. Still need to resign Godwin, Jameis, and many back ups. Money will be tight, but doable especially if players will restructure their current contracts. Draft r tackle and d tackle.

  7. NOLES Says:

    Defense –

That is sound thinking, I agree. Top 2 picks should be O Line & D Line. Unless some other Best player available is some ridiculous talent. I would like to see a veteran corner brought in to anchor the DB’s, through FA. Plus w Dean’s injury history I don’t feel we have enough depth.

  8. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Yeah

Too bad the Bucs will not resign him cause he’ll cost too much.

Shaq bout to get paid from some team like the Browns or Dolphins……….. It’ll be a bidding war for him.

Bucs fans are stupid if they think that he’ll accept a franchise tag after the year he’s having.

  9. Rick Says:

It’s crazy thinking Sapp has the record for sacks from the DT position. Dude was a beast!

  10. Lunchbox Says:

I think we’ll get a good shot at retaining him. I think he’ll want to stay; this is a defense he already knows he does VERY well in. Why not stay? A defense that’s getting better, a team that’s getting better, with teammates he already knows, a system he excels in? Why not stay? I say he stays.

The two biggest objectives for the off-season should be retaining Godwin and Shaq. After Shaq on the DL, the next priority should be JPP. I know he’s older, but he’s a presence in the locker room, a leader on the team, and he hasn’t fallen off too much if there are still people saying he’s “unblockable”. Suh and Nassib may have to go for this to happen though.

  11. J Says:

He wants to stay from what he says and there are guys that are looking to get paid that haven’t put out the same production so it’s a no brainer.

  12. 941bucsfan Says:

Yet we still may not beat last years total on Total sacks SMH. Either Vita or Suh aint doing something on passing downs. And dont feed me no BS about double teams. Because last I checked Suh DOES get doubled the 3rd most in the league, but that just means Vea is non existent on passing downs. Vea doesnt get doubled a 1/3 of the time amount that suh does. Yet the only recent highlights I have of Vea is Blocking on peyton barber TD and him catching a TD. Waste of a draft pick licht. If only we Dalvin Cook, and Derwin James instead. This team would be set up for the future

  13. DooshLaRue Says:

    @Lunchbox

I love Chris Godwin and we need to pay him.
But do we have to pay him next year?
Can’t that wait until the following year?

  14. orlbucfan Says:

Barrett will be back. JPP will retire (Bucs need to draft linemen). Such–?? don’t know.

  15. Lunchbox Says:

@Doosh- Yeah, extending Godwin could wait until 20/21 off-season. I’m no capologist, so I don’t know what the Bucs projected cap numbers will be for that year. I’m not sure anyone knows that until this off-season is complete (retirements, free agency, etc). But if they wait until the following year-and Godwin doesn’t hold out- I think it would be great to spend some of that money on a RT, DE, RB or S. Maybe another “prove it” deal or two?

  16. tmaxcon Says:

Shaq will look good on a contender next year…. less than 10% chance he returns to this circus…. slimy D wont be foolish enough to let his client waste years in Tampa….

  17. JP_09 Says:

Re-sign Sack Barrett!! Along with JPP and Suh. Then draft Yetur Gross-Matos rd1 and Raekwon Davis rd2

  18. #1bucfan Says:

So can we start a go fund me to help keep him here cuz it seems the glazers don’t like to spend money at the pass rushing position. HEY GLAZERS GO OUT AN OPEN UP YOUR PERSONAL BANK ACCT TO KEEP THIS GUY HERE IF YOU HAVE TO. WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER BENNET EXPERIENCE ON OUR HANDS WE SAW WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME YOU LET A REALLY GOOD PASS RUSHER LEAVE IT WAS LIKE 10 years with out having a double digit sack guy. JOE I won’t be able to stomach it if he leaves

  19. 813bucboi Says:

    tmax

shaq already has a ring….its time to get paid….and the bucs are gonna pay him….

gotta re-sign SHAQ, JPP and suh….

consistency is key to the defense…..

    GO BUCS!!!!

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    941

    i hear you….

imo, this year TB wanted to set a foundation….players had to learn and get comfortable in his system…..

DW will become better at blitzing up the middle but we should draft a pass rushing DT(d.brown, m.davidson, kinlaw)….we should let gholston play more DT on passing downs as well….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  21. tmaxcon Says:

you people need to understand it’s the agent’s job and more importantly responsibility is to protect the player and put them in the best situation for themselves and their families. allowing a player to sign in tampa without significantly being overpaid is down right malpractice…. for the millennials and clueless, I’ll include the definition of responsibility for you…

    re·spon·si·bil·i·ty

the state or fact of being accountable or to blame for something.

the opportunity or ability to act independently and make decisions without authorization. Or government handouts / assistance.

the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone.

  22. Robert Says:

hey joe, what this mean for his bonuses?

I know he was hitting bonuses for sacks…

at this point the man will get PAID by someone. Wish we had a leader/get R done guy(s) like him and JPP on the O side. (sorry Goodwin-you da man)

  23. Locked In Says:

Barrett has benefited from the rest of the guys on the line, as well as all the blitzing the opposing teams have to scheme for. He might drop in production next year based on what the rest of the line looks like. Still, I’d gladly pay him for even 1/2 of the sacks he’s gotten this year – he has talent and attitude! Pay the man.

Barrett has benefited from the rest of the guys on the line,

that is asinine….. shaq has carried this defense single handily…. very similar to the way sapp carried those 1 year wonder backups to the promise land. no one on the current d line is worth a crap except part time jpp and shaq. Vea is a part time run stuffer who will average 6 or 7 games a year and be nothing more than serviceable situational player.

  25. stpetebucsfan Says:

Agree totally with Figures and D.R. on signing our talented group of defensive players who will test the market this year.

Time to stop taking flyers in FA when we have players who have already proven themselves with our team in our defense.

Why disrupt what seems to be a growing chemistry and a nice balance of veteran leadership to rookies…LVD-White…Suh-Vea
JPP-Shaq…although Shaq is now a veteran as well he’s still young.

That’s a very impressive start to our front seven…good pass rush…strong up the middle and great LB play. If the young secondary continues to improve we have the making of a very good defense….good enough to cover our turnovers? Perhaps.

  26. Buc50 Says:

You either franchise Shaq or you resign him. Haven’t we learned anything? You don’t let pass rushers walk. Also, you extend Godwin now not later. The kid only gets better and more expensive to keep.

  27. martinii Says:

I agree this is not a year to focus on FA’s. Make every effort to Resign, Restucture, and add through the draft Oline. Again I support winning the last three games although injuries may impact that objective. Finally adding a quality RB in the draft would be an added bonus.

  28. martinii Says:

By Resign and Restructure I mean our top producers from 2019.

He wants to stay in Tampa

no one stays in tampa unless they are overpaid or content with losing…. history proves that… hard to keep or attract quality players with this franchises pathetic history and laughable 6 playoff wins in 43 years.
