Target On Godwin?

December 12th, 2019

Used to it.

It stands to reason Bucs’ opponents, in the final three weeks, will have one Bucs skill position player circled on whiteboards with a bulls-eye on him.

That would be Chris Godwin.

The sensational third-year receiver is blowing up the league. Combined with Mike Evans, the two make up the most dangerous receiver duo in the NFL. But Evans is hurt with a bad hamstring, likely out for the season (some are keeping a crack open in the door for him to return as he has yet to be placed on injured reserve).

So teams will double-team Godwin or even triple-team him and do their best to take him out.

Think about it, if you were a defensive coordinator, who would you be more worried about, Godwin or Scotty Miller?

When asked about this yesterday at One Buc Palace, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians didn’t seem concerned at all.

“Yes, he’s been getting double-teamed quite a bit himself on third down,” Arians said of teams defending Godwin. “So we’re kind of used to seeing that.”

Last Sunday, Evans’ absence only opened the door for Breshad Perriman, who has been on a roll lately anyway. Perriman caught the winning touchdown pass. Also, Justin Watson had a nice game, caught his first NFL touchdown and was awarded the game ball.

The old saying, “When one door closes, another door opens,” really did work for Perriman and Watson. If those two guys, along with the tight ends, play to their potential, the Bucs just might survive Evans’ void.

All credit goes to our savior jameis Winston carrying the recivers to new heights … all hail jameis 3rd greatest buc of all time

  2. Robert Says:

is all good. RG will spread the ball, as we have other WR’s TE’s and RB’s who can catch. If they start RG I might actually watch. the season is over…let’s see what we have in the basement!!!

  3. LaMarcus Says:

NOW….. let’s see how good Godwin is. If he is a number 1 receiver we should have no issues

  4. Bobby M Says:

There’s plenty of weapons….I can see Brate picking things up along with Watson/Perriman. Godwin is a threat….Howard is a severe mismatch. Opposing teams will likely have to let someone operate 1 on 1, Brate tends to work well against DBs or LBs in those situations.

Circling them and stopping them are two different things.

It’s good that OJ, Watson & Perriman had confidence builders in that last game….we’ll need them to continue……look for more screens to Rojo….

none of those players matter with our savior getting them the ball… you can put anyone in at wr, rb or te and JW will make them all look much better than they are…. see Hump who was clearly nothing more than a low ceiling bum who benefited from the savior. The savior get’s receivers paid simple as that…

jw could even make one of your comp picks productive….

I’m with the play to win crowd. I’m certainly against losing on purpose for a higher 50/50 crap shot in the draft.

Having said that…losing on purpose is one thing…giving young guys a chance to show their wares is another. And protecting our most valuable investments even another still.

So I think we hopefully have seen the last of ME13 and JW. Their injuries are more important at this point than any statement or statistical records they could add over the final games.

Time to see what Perriman…and Miller…and Watson actually have…time to lean on OJ more to see if he is capable of being one of the straws that stirs this offense next year. Brate is what he is…a solid very smart TE…OJ has the potential to be great..but it’s time to show that potential and the remaining games would be an excellent place to start.

I would love to see game plans with healthy doses of ROJO and OJ.

And yeah it’s time to see what we have in Griffin. Not in terms of competing with JW that’s NEVER going to happen…but in terms of competing with Gabbert or any other backup where does Griffin really stand? Aren’t the $$$ difference worth finding out?

ROJO should get the lion’s share of touches out of the backfield. Like OJ it’s time to find out how special ROJO is or isn’t.

This is not meant as a slam at JW at all. There’s nothing he can do over the final games that will make us feel better or worse.
He’s shown us who he is…the sometimes amazing talent combined with brain dead choices and turnovers. He can win and he can lose. He is truly “Mr. Excitement”.

i have always been a staunch winston supporter. he is easily the 3rd most important buc of all time behind selmon and sapp… I am very consistent with my support and hatred…. bucs have to rid themselves of dotson, brate, d smith and lvd…. the team can not reach maximum potential with some many key members held over from the mentally weak losing culture.

Goodwin will lead the way for the next few games…so glad Perriman, Watson have caught a few balls the last two weeks, time to step it up…show you want to be on the field!! We can do this 4 in a row!! FAMOUS WILL LEAD THE WAY!!

  13. Big Black Dick Says:

Miller Watson and Perriman will step up the next few games. I really think Miller has a hell of an upside with more targets.

Sorry T M A X I P A D an J A S O N. getting rid of LVD is just ridiculous he has bin the only good consistent Buc on this team for the past 9 years. He’s a starter on any other roster. He has help Devin white grasp the nfl an a great leader y’all crazy on that one. Now d Smith not the biggest fan but we saw what happened wen he left for a few plays an there isn’t a LT out there as reliable as he has bin the last 77 games he’s average of there is someone better I’m all for it but if there is someone better an they miss a bunch of games then at the end of the day that player beat ability is availablity. Get it together you to
