Report: Mike Evans Out For Year

December 10th, 2019

Finished for 2019?

This is a bit surprising.

Just hours after Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians toned down his fatalist observations of the hamstring injury to star wide receiver Mike Evans, well plugged-in NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler of BSPN claimed Evans is out for the season.

Evans blew out a hamstring scoring on a 61-yard touchdown pass in the first half in Sunday’s win over the Colts. Arians said it was a “pull.”

Joe guesses this is the smart thing to do. Why risk perhaps permanent injury to Evans when the season is over now?

As Joe has written earlier this week, Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich will now be tasked with developing gameplans not only without Evans for the first time, but he’ll hopefully be able to scheme things open for O.J. Howard, Cam Brate, Justin Watson and Breshad Perriman.

Oh yeah, and to make sure Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, wins the passing title.

The heat is on you now, Leftwich. Are you up to the task?

This morning Evans hosted a children’s event at One Buc Palace. You can see Evans slightly dragging his right leg as he walks.

  1. doolnutts Says:

Love Evans and as much as this stinks the silver lining her is that we will get to see what the rest of our WR core has in preparation for next season. Is Godwin capable to be a WR1? Is Perriman worth resigning? Are Miller/Watson worth keeping around? A lot of quality game film is about to be at Licht’s disposal heading into the new season.

  2. Adrnagy Says:

Good. Sit him out. I like where we at with the rest of the group. Let’s see what we have in Watson. Howard and perriman. Heck even ogunwadale

  3. Bucsfanman Says:

I kind of knew this was coming. It’s not a good injury, especially for WRs.
Like doolnutts says, we’ll get to see some other guys in primetime now.
And yes, Byron’s play-calling will need to be on point.

  4. tmaxcon Says:

joe if they did not want to risk injury to evans with the season already over he would have never played a single game for bucs in his career. Every year evans has been a buc the season was over before it started…. get will mike you deserve better than the glazers minor league franchise….

  5. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Not surprising at all watching him pull up lame. My main man Joe L. may not have engaged his hamstrings as recently as his 12-16 oz arm curls…;) but not a shock that he’s shutdown whatsoever.

  6. Tnew Says:

Now… heal up. Don’t play in the pro bowl

  7. Buc1987 Says:

Looked at wife after it happened and said Evans is done for the year.

  8. Tnew Says:

And be on the sideline for the games. Show all the other diva WRs out there how a true professional WR acts.

Now… heal up. Don’t play in the pro bowl

only cancer93 was selfish enough to sit out regular season games so he did not miss the irrelevant meaningless dog and pony show pro bowl….

  10. Sleepy903 Says:

Watch Winston make another Adam Humphries. My guess it will be Scotty miller in the slot if he plays.

  11. Buc You Says:

3 games to go, eliminated from the playoffs. We gain nothing by rushing him back. I dunno where the surprise comes from.

  12. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

maybe match oj out on smaller dbs now and move him around like the pats do with gronk….it will be surprising to see how godwin handles being the #1 in terms of coverage that will be shifted to shutting him down now

  13. tmaxcon Says:

    Dusthty Rhothdes

godwin will be fine. he plays with guts and heart which has been very rare in tampa since sapp departed…. oj outside is very interesting. i like that.

  14. Bucsdelight Says:

What passing title? For TB? Because Dak has it pretty much sealed barring injury. I don’t think Jameis will be throwing 500 more yds than Dak in three games.

  15. Bucsdelight Says:

NOTE: Sorry, the stats I looked at didn’t have Jameis’ passing yds in it for some reason. I see they are a lot closer. NVM, just ignore me.

  16. Bucsdelight Says:

Good thing for Evans here is that he still had over 1,000 yds for the season. In other news, Shaquil is leading in sacks. Let’s see if he can get sack title.

  17. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Tmax: 100% agree with you on godwin….I think devin white going to be in that category too…and one other is whitehead, problem with whitehead the nfl isn’t the league for headhunters like him anymore

  18. Dalvincookrules Says:

What are you talking about? Dak had an extra game over JW.

Winston is only 7 yards behind Dak for the passing title. I don’t think JW can win it given Evans is out and Dallas has much more to play for.

  19. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

I never really understood why you would take the chance and play your franchise players if there is no hope for playoffs contention. Why not sit all your starters and see what u have as backups?

  20. pick6 Says:

OJ and Mike Evans had similar 40 times. obviously OJ doesn’t compare in route running or contested catch ability but the team could have some fun giving OJ some of Mike’s assignments down the field

as for Mike, get ready for 2020 and i’m glad he hit the 1,000 yard mark before he went down to keep the streak alive. so much of that accomplishment is being relatively fortunate when it comes to health and availability.

  21. PSL Bob Says:

Bucsdelight, why do you think Dak has it wrapped up. Based on the NFL stats I just looked at, Jameis has only 7, yes 7 not 700, fewer yards passing than Dak. Looks like a horse race to me.

  22. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Buy low Sell high

Trade MeMe and his 19 mill contract for a 1st and 2nd rd picks

need ammo to move up to get the top 2 Olineman in the draft

We are top heavy and need better picks in the draft

We cant pay $37 to 2 outside wrs”

    Kobe counting toes Faker

  23. miken Says:

Season over and i love #13 but good to see what Godwin can do as wr#1. May not be able to afford #13 much longer, who knows. This gives all the wrs a chance to step up.

  24. miken Says:

@kobe… wrs and really any player with a big contract don’t get traded for a 1 and 2. Wrs can be found in the draft easy. I like #13, but ifyou were to trade him, a #2 or late #1 is the best you can do.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

ME13 definitely limping/favoring his legs. Let him rest and heal. So now we see what BA/BL do with Ungodly, OJ, Brate, Perriman (who better continue to play better), Watson, Hudson (yes, him) and the RBs. Also, how about a few imaginative QB scrambling/running calls?

  26. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Kobe agreed…and evans is HOF player and person off the field and for the community of tampa…but at end of day….eagles would give the farm away for evans

  27. tmaxcon Says:

    Kobe Faker

that’s not a bad plan if you can get 1 and a 2…. all though all the nuthuggers are going to lose their minds on you…. LOL…. no one gets attached to temporary players like low standard bucfan…. evans is a great player that will never be elite. too many clutch drops. he gets distracted just enough to prevent elite status. too many big drops or lapses in concentration.

  28. D-Rome Says:

It’s not surprising at all. I knew as soon as he pulled up lame that he was done regardless of what Arians said yesterday. Even if the Bucs were in a playoff run he’d be done.

  29. whats the bucs plan 2020 Says:

interesting idea ?? trading Evans…. hmmm ? it will be interesting to see hgow they manage the salary cap and still have a strong DL LINE and pass rush ??

  30. Robert Says:

If you guys buy ME and JW going down for the season when it’s officially over, well I got a bridge for sale.

it’s seeing whats in the cupboard point now.

  31. LordCornelius Says:

Man it’d be tough but I could possibly live with trading Evans if it was for a 1st and 2nd rounder… Knowing we free up $20M and would have those picks; one of which could go to another WR.

He’s a beast but you don’t build championship rosters with WRs & TEs typically as much as you do defense / O-line / QB

  32. Brandon Says:

Trying to figure out why if the Bucs are such incredible losers and T-Pax is so smart, why does he waste so much time commenting on them? He is the actual definition of an unhappy person. Being unhappy makes him happy.

  33. Slugglife Says:

Hate to hear this. This guy has played his ass off.
Better to let him get healthy.

Look forward to another dominating season in2020. Thanks for the fun Mike.

  34. Slugglife Says:

Shelve that trade Evans talk. Not happening.

  35. Little Bo Peep 🤡❗️ Says:

Mike Evans is the Hart and Soul Of The Tampa Bay Buccaneers ❗️Not just the Best WR in team history, but a future member of the Pro Football HOF. A True Warrior. Mike puts it on the line every game, 100% effort every play, no quit in the man. Team locker room leader and a true role model for the youth of America. You ask the best WR in the modern era of the NFL, HOF Randy Moss, now with ESPN, and Moss will tell you, “Mike Evans dominates the game just like I did in my prime ❗️“ In short, Mike Evans is a “BALLER ❗️“ The Lebron James Of WR’s. Loved Evans since his days at Texas A&M. And he was an All State Basketball Player In High School In The State Of Texas. Get well Mike, GO BUCS❗️

  36. Brandon Says:

Evans is not elite? That’s hilarious. Do you guys think that all elite players are perfect? There are only a tiny handful of WRs in the NFL better than Evans. That alone makes him elite.

So championship teams don’t need great WRs? I guess that’s why Jerry Rice, Art Monk, Michael Irvin, Antonio Brown, and Marvin Harrison never won any rings? A weapon is a weapon. A good offense requires as many weapons as possible.

  37. Brandon Says:

Despite conventional wisdom stating that high paid players are simply worth their contracts and nothing more, Evans would still fetch two #1’s on the open market. Trading FOR elite players is plain stupid… to pay all that $$$ and then turn around and lose draft picks as well. It’s been proven time and time again that you don’t fork over a 1st and 3rd for an aging CB coming off a torn ACL AND pay him $1 mil a game to play. But Evans is elite… at least as elite as a WR as Khalil Mack is as a defensive player and look what he got for the Raiders and made in his new contract.

  38. JimbobBucsFan Says:

The only trade for Mike Evans I would find acceptable would be for a PREMIERE Left Tackle.  Only a team whose backup is apparently very close to as good would even dream of doing such a thing.  When have you ever seen that situation?

Licht does just as well or better even with his round 3-5 picks.  Picks 1 and 2 are rarely absolutely guaranteed successes no matter how well they played in college.

  39. 813bucboi Says:

    LC

i said that after the first saints game when mike was shut out….

    i’d trade him to the PATS for 2 1st and 2 2nd round picks…..

Brady aint happy with his receivers now that gronk is gone and they’re always in win now mode…..

nothing personal because i like ME13 but its all business….

if you look at the top team in the league right, ravens saints, 9ers, seahawks none have the weapons we have…but we dont have the defense or rushing attack they have…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  40. Boombang Says:

The Bucs made the right choice, sit Evans for the remaining games…..If healthy, Miller/Scott should share duties…See what we have in them….Joe thinks it will be a good opportunity for Leftwich to intergrate Howard, Brate, Perriman in the pass game…..In reality, it could be a blessing in disguise…I think it forces Winston to look for his other receivers and not be comfortable with throwing to Evans/Godwin.

  41. ou812 Says:

Jameis Winston, wins the turnover title. I fixed it for you JOE!

  42. diggler Says:

Poor Evans man, next man up! WRs last average of 2 years in the Not for Long League.

  43. 813bucboi Says:

    joe

BL has been without a run game all season in addition to battling against an inconsistent defense and QB…..

    ME13 missing doesnt faze BL….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  44. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Rest well Godzilla.

  45. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    MadMax

    If see this later bredren

We gotta talk about J.K Dobbins bredren.

  46. crazyBucs_CL Says:

@Report: Mike Evans Out For Year
    ——————–
what …. our year just end it…. AGAIN…. we talking like the season is still going…..Noooo
the season just end it, and we are out from play-offs for the 12th time(year) in a row. last 5 with JW as QB.
the only NEWS should be who is going to be our QB next year…. lets cut the BS

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  47. Buc4evr Says:

Let Evans heal the rest of the season. Perriman has really come on strong. Godwin is still a monster and now we get to see a two tight end set or maybe Brate playing slot? Bucs still have a potent offense.

  48. Anonymous Says:

The Bucs are just racking up excuses for why Winston will throw more picks. Oh, he hurt his thumb. Oh, Mike Evans is out. Oh, there is no run game. Oh, you name it. One excuse for every INT…and that’s a LOT.

  49. CalBucsFan Says:

But I thought it was his left leg he injured?

  50. DaBux Says:

    Good.

Why risk further injury during a meaningless season end. Let him heal up, let Godwin test himself as the #1 and see what the kids can do. It’s a wise, wise move.

  51. passthebuc Says:

I have heard it said that now that we are out we should play a lot of backups. We have a lot of backups currently playing as starters.

  52. Rod Munch Says:

I do not understand why they don’t try moving OJ outside. This offense doesn’t use TE all that much, and if you’re just going to have OJ block then you’re wasting his talents. This is a guy who had better messurables than Evans, but is a TE. Move him outside and he’s a 4.5 guy who has a huge size advantage and who can catch the ball. I’d at least give him a go there and see what happens – I mean why not?

  53. JWDS INFECTED BUCS FAN Says:

    MIKE EVANS is a LOSER!

He was a worse win % than Jameis!

CUT HIM, TRADE HIM, JUST GET RID OF HIM!

Go get a wide receiver who WINS like Adam Thielen!

I’d trade Mike Evans and our 1st round pick for Adam Thielen any day as Thielen wins and “stats are for losers”!!!!
