Mike Evans May Be Out A While

December 9th, 2019

Season in doubt.

When Mike Evans caught that 61-yard touchdown pass from Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, late in the first quarter, who knew that could be his last catch of a wonderful 2019 season?

Now no one yet has declared Evans out for the year, but the words from Bucco Bruce Arians sounded ominous after the game yesterday.

Initially asked in his postgame presser about Evans’ hamstring injury, Arians replied, “It’s not good.” Later when asked if Evans might be able to play at Detroit on Sunday, Arians was less positive.

“I’ll be shocked if Mike makes it back before the last week,” Arians said.

So Joe can only take that as Evans playing in the season finale Dec. 29 is in peril. And if Evans can’t go in three weeks against the Dixie Chicks at the Den of Depression, that means we have seen the last of Evans until next season.

Evans looked like he was injured when a diving shoestring tackle attempt nearly tripped him. He landed funny and dragged himself across the goal line.

Of course, we should know more later today when Arians holds his day-after presser at One Buc Palace.

This is should come as no surprise. He’s been fragile. I called this during training camp. Go back Joe and look up my past comments.

  2. tnew Says:

He’s done for the year. Might be able to return for the Pro Bowl.. Which I hope he skips. Start your off season now.

  3. SOEbuc Says:

We were officially taken out of our thin chance at the wild card today. Must sit him the rest of the year. The coaches are now going to put together more plays involving our great TEs to use in the future. Excited to see what Watson might be able to do with more reps.

  4. tnew Says:

Im not being negative there, but it came of as such, more like grumpy. Seeing his reaction, you just know this is not a quick fix. He battles and loves to play. This isn’t DJax making a career decision. Might as well start the healing ASAP

  5. SOEbuc Says:

    Buddy

He’s fragile? He’s missed three in his entire career. All being 15 of 16 in those years.

  6. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Had that same injury happen the same way. He won’t be able to sprint for 4-6 weeks.

  7. Solinor Says:

Every time he gets hurt it’s his hamstring. I think he’s been injured two or three times throughout his career, and each time it’s a hamstring. Dude just has bad genetic hamstrings I guess.

  8. SB Says:

He should stay out the rest of the Year. He has nothing to prove and our record for the rest of the season means nothing regardless of if he is active.
    IMHO

    …………………….
I hate calling people idiots, it happens I agree, however buddy you are calling a guy ‘fragile’ that has had SIX 1,000 yard seasons!. I think only one other slouch has done that.

  10. Buddy Says:

Ok I shoulda said his hamstrings are fragile.

  11. SB Says:

    Only Randy Moss Buddy.
    Do you not get that??????

  12. SB Says:

    Derp.

  13. Papa Bwucy Bwuce Says:

Yeah thT hamstring is slight tear for sure. I told ME13 that it’s ok and Papa Bwucy is gonna give it a kiss an make it feew awwww better.

Evans is an elite receiver and thats why I instructed LeftSandwich OFF COR. To scheme him out of entire second half of some games. I was trying to protect those hammys

We gon be ok. I got Scotty Miller

  14. AwShbucs Says:

Lmao Buddy. To this point Mikey has missed 3 whole games his entire career. He ain’t exactly the John Ross type figure you’re trying to make him out to be..

  15. westernbuc Says:

    Buddy, that’s an awful take

  16. Jean Lafitte Says:

Shutting down Mike isn’t such a bad thing. It gives guys like Watson a chance to show his mettel. There are several players that still need evaluation before the draft.

  17. Joe Says:

This is should come as no surprise. He’s been fragile. I called this during training camp. Go back Joe and look up my past comments.

Is he? He’s missed three games in his career, nearly six years. That’s pretty impressive. Fragile guys don’t answer the bell that often.

  18. Boyd Says:

Wasn’t one of those missed games a suspension too? When he planted tube saints cb (lattimore maybe?) For getting in jw’s face? Or am I misremembering?

  19. DB55 Says:

You know what this means? Less ints for JayMiss ATM WinsNot

  20. D-Rome Says:

When I saw him pull up I immediately told my buddy that he’s done for the year. I’ll be stunned if he suits up again this season.

  21. Anonymous Says:

Joe is right. Evans is not fragile. He takes good care of himself, by kneeling down during the national anthem and all. Really saves his body for something worth putting in the effort. Sometimes.

  22. Anonymous Says:

He should probably do a better job warming up instead of playing hot dog.

  23. Todd Says:

Buddy, sometimes you just have to be brutally honest with yourself.

You made a dumb ass comment.

    That’s okay, we all have.

What’s important now is that you admit it.

Begin with, “My name is Buddy and I’m a dumbassaholic.”

And pick up you white chip.

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s a shame! That’s a bad injury for a WR. More than likely, he’s done for the year.
    Get better soon Mike!

  25. Todd Says:

If I’m “smart Mike” and I can suppress my competitive nature to compete for just the three games remaining, I would simply escalate the priority of securing the solo position of holding the NFL record of 7 consecutive 1000-yard seasons.

Hamstring injuries are cunning and savage. Treat yours like it’s an ACL rehab. You have time. You can hold your head high. Other Bucs players will be nicely developed in your stead. Support them, lead the team from the sidelines and get that hammy healed!!!

2020 is going to be our 12-4 Division winning year!

    Heard it here first!

  26. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Who’d a thunk Jameis hitting Mike Evans in stride would end his year !

  27. Tattoodonny Says:

Oh Buddy, you “called it” during training camp on how WR Mike Evens is “fragile” or that his hamstrings are fragile? You mean the same Mike Evens that’s played in 90 of 93 career games in 6 seasons. The same Mike Evens who has 462 catches for 7260 yards and 48 touchdowns? Or the same Mike Evens who is only 1 of 2 Wide Receivers in NFL HISTORY to catch over a 1000 yards in his first 6 seasons along with Hall Of Famer, Randy Moss? FRAGILE? REALLY? Ok, yea maybe he’s had a few hamstring problems through out his career, just like every other WR that’s ever stepped on a NFL field. You sir, are either the dumbest Bucs fan EVER or a Failcons, Panturds or Aints fan? To inform Joe to look it up on how you called it shouldn’t be something you are proud of or want anyone to even know you said. As a 43 year long Bucs fan and a season tix holder since 1993, (with 5 Bucs tattoo’s, 1st was a Bucco Bruce in 1986). I’m hoping with only 3 games left & nothing to play for except to reach 9-7 or 8-8 to prevent another losing season, they shut him down for his own good & allow other WRs more playing time. So “Buddy” the next time you wanna try prognosticating something try picking a 10+ win season, a playoff run or a home Super Bowl game in Ray-Jay for SB LV, Feb 7, 2021, otherwise stay with reading Joe Bucs Fan instead of posting something so preposterous. Go Bucs!

  28. Easy Says:

No need for him to play any more this season. Heal up for next season.

  29. Allbuccedup Says:

The season is over no need to play him unless hes 100%. Just like jean L. said it gives watson some well needed reps.

  30. SammyRebel Says:

I was gonna say something to buddy but it looks like everyone else is roasting him lol good job buddy

  31. Licht Headed Says:

Buddy…everyone’s piling on and tyou deserve it…..Assinine take.

  32. #1bucfan Says:

Haha so I do get where buddy is coming from. JOE an anyone else correct me if I’m wrong but almost every year in training camp a article comes out about ME13 an his hamstring but it has never translated to him missing games I know 1 game was a suspension an idk why he missed 2 other games but 3 games over what is it 6 seasons now ? That is anything but fragile at least buddy had the sense to retracted what he said lol

  33. Bucs fan in Charlotte Says:

Not calling him fragile but I also feel like M1K3 gets a hurt hammy or cramps during training camp. Always made me feel uneasy during season. Buddy isn’t completely off-base…however Evans is not fragile.

  34. orlbucfan Says:

ME13 is not fragile. Someone on here needs to get eyes/brain checked. No telling how many times he’s been illegally slammed over 5 years by an opposing player. DPI, nope. This is the Bucs, idiot refs call OPI. Let him rest and heal. Now, OJ and Brate will get passes–about time!! Plus, let Watson develop. Everyone in the known FB universe knows Ungodly Godwin will be getting the double coverages.

  35. Bucaroni&Cheese Says:

Lol ME13 fragile…c’mon man! Dude’s a poster boy of consistency and availability.

I will say this, it will be intriguing to see how the offense performs without Mike in the lineup and Godwin leading the receiving team. They performed just fine yesterday after he left. I love me some Mike Evans, but we are paying him a ton of money. And my hunch tells me that Godwin plays a much more valuable role in the BA offense and is more critical to its success. Its going to be hard to afford two elite receivers along with the D-Line and (likely) QB. I live in a world where a cold number crunching GM may entertain the idea of shipping Mike off.

Again I love Mike and want to see him in pewter for the rest of his days. He’s been one of the few bright spots in the last decade of suffering.

  36. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

    Buddy shut up pretty quickly

  37. AMI_Chris Says:

Shut him down. No playoffs, no reason to risk anything.

  38. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

Damn I was gonna say something to buddy but I almost feel bad for him now….almost lol. I do get what ur saying hes had a couple of hammy issues but fragile was definitely the wrong word to use. Evan’s is a beast always has been n always will be GO BUCS

  39. TOM Says:

BA, just shut him down. Why take chances with him?

  40. DB55 Says:

Buddy don’t feel bad mike is fragile that why he goes down immediately after catching the ball unlike Godwin who plays hurt and beats 4-5 defenders to the end zone.

Obviously Mike spent too much time with DJax last season. And I’m not even bringing up all his pouting.

    Ice up son, ice up.
