History Is On The Line Today

December 29th, 2019

On cusp of NFL history.

Yes, Jameis has a shot to make the 30/30 club, the first quarterback to do so in the modern era.

And Jameis has the chance to tie an NFL record that only one quarterback in the history of the game has done, and when eligible, that guy will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Jameis already has five games this season where he has thrown for 375 yards. He joins a very select club. Only Drew Brees and Peyton Manning have done this, both in 2013.

But Manning actually has thrown for 375 yards or more in a game six times (2013). If Jameis throws for 375 yards today, he will tie Manning’s record.

And of course, Jameis is 92 yards away from throwing for 5,000 yards. That 5,000-yard plateau has only been reached 11 times total in NFL history from seven different quarterbacks. Five are either in the Pro Football Hall of Fame or are slam dunks to be inducted. The seven quarterbacks are Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Pat Mahomes, Dan Marino and Matt Stafford.

It’s a bit too early to suggest Mahomes or Stafford are Canton-bound.

But yeah, let’s run off a rare quarterback like this because he’s had a rash of picks.

    Rarified air right there.

  2. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Oh Boy!!!!

    30/30 club

Joe makes this dubious feat seem like a wonderful thing. ..smh

  3. Tye Says:

we are finally in the long awaited days..

soon a decision must be made and either a small handful of people will be following Jabroni to his new team and the rest will be celebrating for many days OR a mass exodus will take place, many will renounce Buc fandom and burn all bucs gear and 31 other teams will be receiving a large increase of fans and a surge of their gear sold…

most excitement (and about the only) the Bucs have generated in a decade!

  4. NPRSageBoy. Says:

JayMiss deserves to be the founding member of the infamous 30-30 club. No words can match with the stench associated with that honor.

Sure, guarantee him $100M for three years.

    This team deserves better.

    Peace, out

Don’t let the door slap you in the A55 on the way out!

  6. whats the bucs plan 2020 Says:

put some lipstick on that pig and call it pretty …… maybe someone will trade for our QB ???

  7. Jean Lafitte Says:

Is it really too much to ask to have a QB who plays exclusively for our own team?

So If you counted all the points Jameis has scored for the other teams along with the points he’s scored for the Bucs no-one would be close.

Maybe we can give him that record too, or at least a trophy.

  8. B.D Says:

did someone say, we would get 2 number 1 picks if he left? that may be something to think about if true?

  9. Couch Fan Says:

I love how these Winston backers keep pretending that throwing picks is no big deal. LMAO

  10. B.D Says:

all depends when the interceptions occur

  11. B.D Says:

just before end of the half? end of game ? (last play) those shouldnt count, its the ones where the game is on the line that bother me

  12. T REX Says:

Winston’s stats are inflated because of how much we pass….don’t mistake stats for wins.

    Winston sucks.

  13. IVAN Says:

He has thrown for a lot of yards because he has thrown a lot of picks!. You think he would be closing in to 5k yards if he was more accurate? He’s averaging 2 TO a game.

  14. WeeManOfScots Says:

Come on JayMiss you can do it!!!!

    —-
He wants 30M a year for the 30/30 club!!..

    —-
    LMFAO!

  15. Craig Says:

Jameis is going to be infamous after today. He’ll get all of those records before halftime.

Maybe then BA will put Ryan Griffin in to save the game.

  16. Tampabuscsbro Says:

So joe you know 28 minutes interceptions is more then a rash of picks and those pics have single handedly lost is 3 game. But you’re right THE RUNNING GAME.

  17. Buc believer Says:

Yeah baby nothing like playing for individual stats instead of playoffs. Right Shaq? Right Jamie’s? Right Brucie?

  18. gp Says:

I am a Buc’s fan first and foremost, regardless of which players we field.
For those who kvetch and moan about having the third best scoring offense (something the Buc’s have never even sniffed at!) I say again…

Don’t let the door slap you in the A55 on the way out!

  19. SteveK Says:

The biggest factor in determining the outcomes of our games is the play of our QB. The offense generated is good, but it’s fools gold when you consider the turnovers. Fumbles, sacks, picks, etc. we are bad at turning it over. Worse than anyone.

With that, we can’t blame the defense anymore. They are excelling in spite of Winston’s turnovers. Now we blame the running game? If we had less turnovers then we’d be winning. Seeing this get twisted and have the D or the running game blamed is weak ass sauce. $30 million QBs aren’t turning it over like this.

  20. SteveK Says:

Falcons announced Quinn and company are staying for one more year. You bette believe they are going to come in here fired up. Go Bucs!

  21. Don_RyJo(e) Says:

C’mon Joe(s), stop trying to gaslight us into thinking Jameis is somehow a misunderstood genius and his gargantuan number of interceptions is somehow not a big deal. Look – nobody is saying Jameis lacks TALENT. All I’m saying is that no team and be a Super Bowl contender with a QB that throws the ball to the other team as much as Jameis. You Joe(s) love to compare Jameis’ numbers to QBs from other eras, but its not the same game. You have to compare Jameis to QBs in the here and now. And sure he can put up gaudy numbers. Nobody is denying that. But. you. cannot. win. a. super. bowl. with. that. many. turnovers. Period. Now, I’m not saying “kick his [censored] to the curb”. Maybe another year in Arians’ system will miraculously change who Jameis is. Who knows. But don’t try to sell me on this notion that we’re all being unreasonable for pointing out how often Jameis single-handedly throws away games by gifting the ball to the opponent.

  22. UberVictim Says:

The Jamoist apologists blame everyone except the source of our collective misery. What good is yardage if you never make the playoffs? How many times can you scream about waiting for next season? I’ve supported this team for almost 25 years and have seen many more losing years than winning. But it now seems like the organization is held captive by a GM that will only serve his own ego. The only true chance of making the playoffs will come after Licht and Winston are gone. If they double down on Jamoist long term, it will be the death nail of this once proud franchise.

  23. SteveK Says:

    DonRyJo,

Helluva post. Thanks for summing it up, couldn’t of said it better. It’s high—level propaganda and outright foolish to dismiss the turnovers.

  24. Bucnut2 Says:

No Joe. You get rid of him because you can’t win in the NFL turning it over as much as he does. Anyone doubt why we can’t win at home? I can give you 22 reasons

  25. Adrnagy Says:

Keep him. That’s how we do it. Bucs setting records right and left.

  26. Tampabuscsbro Says:

ah yes the buccaneers QB records with our illustrious history of incredible QBs…

  27. Couch Fan Says:

A running game isnt going to stop Jameis’s terrible decision making. Ive never before seen someone called a franchise QB that needs all pro pieces at every position just for him to simply stop turning the ball over more than anyone else in the league. $30 million for that? I think not.

  28. DoooshLaRue Says:

That “bad house in a good neighborhood “ statement was never more fitting!

  29. NPRSageBoy. Says:

The stench of the founding member of the infamous 30-30 club will rise from RayJay this afternoon.

    All hail JayMiss!

If this organization pays this clown $30M+, I’m done.

    Peace, out

  30. Willy D Buc Says:

A rash of picks?! He has ALWAYS thrown picks!
The turnover margin usually determines the games’ outcomes. It’s all about Ws, not stats, remember??
    (“Stats are for losers”….
    “That’s not a rash – it’s cancer!”)

  31. Wesley Says:

You don’t consistently win games when you consistently turn the ball over.

  32. Dewey Selmon Says:

I want to see Winston break the franchise record for int’s for a year. Only needs 7 to tie Vinny.

  33. BucDan Says:

    In rarified air is correct.

Lots of talk about Winston’s stats coming in garbage time, but there are 31 other starters in the league with less yards, touchdowns, first downs per throw, yards per throw, third down conversion throw than the Bucs starter.

“Oh but the modern era allows for his stats to be so inflated..” and yet only several other QBs have down what he has accomplished in his first five years in the league, which not only include the stat lines listed above, but also the great 5,000 yard season.

Easier said than done (like a lot of things in life), but stop giving the opposing team 1,2,3,4 additional short-field, possessions and #3’s positive attributes will continue to push the team in a positive direction.

  34. MadMax Says:

He’ll throw at least 3 interceptions today and then afterwards during his presser, regurgitate the same thing over and over regardless of what the question is….”I have to do better and not turn the ball over” and then all you name calling morons will still be happy while regurgitating the same idiotic thoughts….”thats my quarteback, he’s not going anywhere, yes he’s a turnover machine, but, but 5000 yards man, he’s only 25 and setting records”……

Yes he is, including a new one. The first 30/30 QB ever….jeesh! Just move on! Quite a few QB’s will be there at 16-18. The definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again but expecting different results…..no more insanity please!

  35. Coburn Says:

The thing is if you tell other qbs to not worry about picks and just sling it youd suddenly have a lot more 5000 yard passers. Not satin anyone can do it or it isn’t fairly impressive but at what cost is all those yards? When you actually take care of the football that means sometimes just throwing t away, punting and settling for less yards

  36. Bucsfan77 Says:

I will be a bucs fan if we let Winston walk, I will be a bucs fan if he stays with a long term or.short term contract. I am a bucs fan pure and simple. I was born in Tampa and I will always support the team of my home city. Do I want to win? Of course. But if you stop being a fan due to who we have on the team or not then please by all means go root for Cleveland or anyone one else and stop spouting your drivel about leaving if Winston stays.

  37. Losing hope Says:

Welp that’s 29. One down one to go. He can take those 5000 yards and shove em up his…….
30 30 here we come. Joe is a bafoon

  38. firethecannons Says:

Joe –dude–we are the embarassment of the entire league! Jameis needs to be run off and quick–we cant win when he throws so many ints and pick sixes, he just lost this game. No more of this! Get over your love affair with yards that amount to nothing.

  39. Bucy Says:

Lol rash of picks… wake up joe he is trash.

  40. Bigdaddy66 Says:

All the stat lines are nice, however to succeed in this league its WINS that count.Bottom Line !!!
