Devin White’s Growth

December 1st, 2019

Balled out.

The past three weeks Joe has noticed rookie linebacker Devin White becoming more and more of a force.

Today, he was the star of a defense that played lights out.

In the first quarter alone White had a scoop-and-score and a pick. He also was quite physical, as well.

Facing bruising Jags running back Leonard Fournette, there was a run to the right sideline where Whited stopped Fournette for a short gain. Fournette, seemingly who was the boss on his own field, tried to flip White over his shoulder. Instead, White body-slammed Fournette.

Whose house?

White and Lavonte David each led the Bucs with seven tackles.

Joe will have more from White’s teammates on his play and his game, but Joe will share something he got from Jason Pierre-Paul.

“He’s still learning, he’s still growing,” JPP said. “Hey, I’m still learning.”

Most of White’s teammates Joe spoke with firmly believe White is just scratching the surface of his capabilities.

Regardless, it was fun to watch White dominate today.

But Joe, all of the trolls labeled DW a bust by game 3. The film must be wrong!

  2. Chris K Says:

But but but J.Allen… We saw them both on the field today. J.Allen looks likes he’s gonna be a real good football player for the Jags. D.White looks like he’s gonna a super star in this league for the next decade! Watch and learn trolls, watch and learn..

  3. kstoges Says:

    Him and Lavonte are BEASTS

    Balling !

    Great job today Rook!

White is also racking up TFLs too!! He is becoming a guy you gotta game plan for too as a Blitzer…….But to me the biggest impact & what we needed most on defense is him making plays in coverage.

Poor coverage from LBs has killed us for years…..Now White is starting to put an end to that.

Go back and watch White on that goalline stand. Outstanding covering his zones!!! David too.

Funny thing is now that White is impoving against the pass it is making a noticable difference in David’s coverage. David’s never been a strong pass defender and his past few games you would never know that……..I’m sure White has helped make the difference. David now has a mate he can trust allowing him to not overthink and handle his responsibilities……..White is quite literally making others around him better……..Something you see in great players!!!!

    Love love this guy.

It’s JWs fault Devin White took ” so long to catch up to speed of the NFL”

Memo to all fantasy nerds. I’m sure TEs are historically a great play vs our Bucs…..But you might wanna think twice about trying to ride that gravy train no more.

Whites gonna put an end to that trend.

  9. Boltsfan17 Says:

He was an absolute monster. His tackling and speed to the ball are superb. Looks like he’s catching onto pass coverage too.

Guy appears to be the real deal.

    @Joe
Haven’t seen you mention much about Devin Bush lately but your “pass rusher” Josh Allen did show up in the 2nd half today.

    Good grief. Please be kidding.

  12. DR FEELGOOD Says:

He also made one of the plays of the season when he nailed the fake FG in Tennessee, forced a scoop and score that could’ve won that game if the NFL refs weren’t the dumbest humans to ever walk the Earth!! Devin is a star in the making. Today’s referee is 67 years old if I’m not mistaken. Seriously? Upper 60s and trying to be the head of an officiating crew chasing stallions. Pathetic.

  13. Gettinthebucs Says:

Not gonna lie I was one of the ones that called him a “b” word. These last few weeks have changed my mind. It looks like the torch will be successfully passed from Lavonte 😀

  14. Bobby Says:

Yes. Can we just agree that the trolls who label rookies a bust after a handful of games almost always prove they know nothing about football talent. The rest of us saw the flashes early and knew he would develop. He was great pick for what we needed. Yes, we could have gotten Josh Allen but Shaq Barrett seems like a better pickup and then we have DW too. It’s beginning to look like Licht isn’t such a moron after all. Some of these DB’s are starting to ball. You have to give rookies time to develop. So Hargreaves didn’t pan out. Carlton Davis looks like he’s going to be really good. The more playing time SMB gets the better I like his progress. If Dean can stay healthy he’s looking good. We need O-line help but I see us moving in the right direction.

  15. ModHairKen Says:

I wanted the pass rusher at the White pick. I am so glad they chose Devin White instead. He is a hard hitter. He hustles. Him and Vea can be cornerstones.

    Who’s house? RUN’S HOUSE

  17. Discobeef Says:

I thought this article was going to be about him developing a giant wart 🙁

  18. TiredOfLosingGoBuc Says:

Screw it im just going to say it…..we should be at least 7-5 right now but thats another story..ok im done carry on

  19. Jcscycles Says:

Speaking of Devin Bush, he has been getting less and less snaps as the year goes on. Now that our Devin has recovered from the injury you can see why people compared him to Patrick Willis. And he will just continue to get better with time.

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Give me a break, JJ! LVD has always been the top echelon of defensive players. Hopefully, White, etc. is learning off him.

  21. July Joe Says:

Jason Licht has hit a HOME RUN on every first round pick he’s had except the Vernon Hargreaves pick … and many fans wanted Hargreaves (though Jameis Winston offered to give back part of his rookie signing bonus if it would help the team move up and draft Jalen Ramsey) … and maybe the OJ Howard pick (and Jameis Winston sang Dalvin Cook’s praises before the draft).

Licht is a solid GM … and if he works with JAMEIS, the 2020 draft could be his best ever!

  22. SOEbuc Says:

LVD is 29 years old and sooo far from the over 30 years old BS. Him and Shaq are the top two new contract in 2020. LVD continually teaching White. Damn.

  23. Buczilla Says:

I was praising Devin White (formerly known as Eugene Marve Jr.) in the open thread during the game, but I’ll add that I was wrong on him here too. I wanted Josh Allen (who is killing it too) over White, but I am elated that he is tearing it up now and making me look like a dumba$$ for doubting him. It’s awesome to see our defense playing well and White was a huge part of it today.

  24. MadMax Says:

Haha….My guys White and Big V are balling!!

Now we need that next level star in the backfield….Superstar Simmons from Clemson!

  25. Cometowin2 Says:

Devin has been playing well the last three weeks at least. Looks like he is no longer having to think as much before reacting. Saw two other things today I really liked beyond his play. When he scored his first ever NFL touchdown he gave the ball to a Buc fan and second when a jagoff pushed him after a play, he didn’t react and get a penalty. When talent, heart and brains come together…

  26. #1bucfan Says:

he’s a stud. Bin saying it since we drafted him. Just took a little bit to adjust to the nfl. Now Allen on the other hand looks like he’s going to be great to. But still glad we picked white. Now get him some more help around him let these young DBs grow an develop into something special even if it’s average play. Go Bucs

  27. SOEbuc Says:

Butkus award winner is not so much a wrap up tackler like many were worried about. He has great form getting his shoulders down and lays the smack down.
