Arians Denies NFL Network Report

December 21st, 2019

Responds.

Earlier this morning Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shook the football world when he made it known the Bucs have already decided to retain the services of Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

After today’s loss to the Texans, Joe asked Arians for his remarks on the report. Arians flatly stated no decision has been made.

“There has been no decision on any player,” Arians said. “We don’t make those decisions until the season is over.”

That’s pretty straightforward for Joe.

Now Joe knows Rapaport is a solid reporter with sources throughout the league including general managers and league employees.

So this would be one helluva swing and a miss if Rapaport in a few months has to write a story on Jameis suiting up for another team.

    Total LIE! LIAR IDIOT

    why do you believe JOE!???

You really think that Gump will allow Papa BWUCY BWuce to even workout another QB???

  2. WeeManOfScots Says:

Happy news for the day!!! Can that bum at the end of the season!!

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    1 Tampa Bay 89.89% Touchback percentage Bradley Pinion…….tops in the NFL…..thought I’d post a positive…..

  4. Brion Says:

I believe the salient point here is to not ask Ronald McDonald if the fry cook who ruined your BigMac will be working next week.

  5. Zzbuc Says:

    Rapaport isn’t reliable.
More than once he said stupid statements on JW Winston favor under Koetters tenure, he is garbage

  6. Jean Lafitte Says:

By claiming this it put’s the ball squarely in Jameis’s court and severely damages any leverage Licht and Arians had. If he already has been assured that he’s returning, he basically can ask his own price knowing that Licht will assuredly agree to his terms without much pushback. Licht has tipped his hand.

  7. gotbbucs Says:

What else is he supposed to say considering today’s heroics?

I just hope they have the balls to turn Winston lose again next week and put us all out of our misery.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Bucs probably told Rappaport that “they would like to bring him back next year”……..means absolutely nothing at this point.

  9. ElBajito43 Says:

Joe if you ask OJ SIMPSON if he did it he will also LIE TO YOU! Smart guy

  10. 541Buc Fan Says:

The number of yards and INTs between Payton Manning, Dan Marino and JW through five years is shockingly close. Both have significant more TDs and more wins than JW, though.

  11. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Papa Smurf playing “bluff” like poker

  12. Wesley Says:

    Whew, good answer.

  13. ElBajito43 Says:

Michael Clayton, “Can Jameis Winston bring in fans?”

No 👎 empty seats EVERY SINGLE GAME disgusting display on national tv. Get this IDIOT OUT OF HERE!!!

  14. lambchop Says:

Maybe the Coach and GM aren’t on the same page or Coach is just denying it cuz Jameis makes that report and the Bucs look foolish now. Might have been a different response if America’s Apple Turnover balled out.

  15. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I’m with Joe. Defense lost the game today. If it wasnt for JWs heroics, we wouldn’t have had a chance.

  16. Couch Fan Says:

I hope hes telling the truth. Im not saying they shouldn’t bring Winston back, but they do need to sit down and have a long serious open discussion about it after the season. There has to be a back up plan in place in case they cant cut these turnovers down which it doesnt look like they can do at this point.

  17. WeeManOfScots Says:

541Buc….and that’s what counts at the end of the day…wins…not garbage stooped stats!

  18. Adrnagy Says:

Regardless if Winston is back.or we get a new QB. Licht needs to trade brate , Howard. This two players make millions and couldn’t catch a ball. Bring in mckelroy and he catches. The same goes with dare, Peyton. Ronald. One of them is going to fumble or miss blocks.

This situation of Winston will be dragged for months watch. Licht will work on keeping defense together.

  19. Ndog Says:

This was the worst time for Jameis to have his worst game ever. I ALWAYS call it like I see it and today pick #1, 2 and 4 were 100% his fault and none of those throws should be happening to a franchise QB. My personal belief in him was shaken today and I find it hard to believe that many of the people in the building don’t feel the same way.

  20. RagingBrisket Says:

Fire Licht before Winston or anyone else. He is a loser GM

  21. Zzbuc Says:

    Ndog are you feeling ok?
You need some aspirin men, your fever should be high. Check it out!

  22. ElBajito43 Says:

    Ok @NDOG

    SAVE THIS POST PLZ!!!!

Soon you will be back in your excuse bunker with Lamarcus

It is ALMOST TOO LATE FOR YOU

But in true Bucs fashion you are welcomed back to the LOSER club, we still have a seat for you.

Plz try and be a role model for other WINSTON ADDICTS.

God has given you this second chance!!! DON’T WASTE IT!

  23. JimmyJack Says:

I’m cool with whatever decision Bruce makes……And freaking Winston had just won over almost all Tampa media’s. Everybody was calling for him to return.

He played a game so bad today he just ruined it all. He was embarrassingly bad. And he is ruining any hope this fanbase should have heading into 2020.

But I’m on the ship with Winston. I’ll stay on and sink with him. I’ll be at the game next week. Very excited to see this defense. Winson sadly cannot repair the dissapointment I have for him right now.Today he opened up old scars and made them deeper.

  24. Rayjay1122 Says:

Ndog…..I am proud of your clear headed stance. It’s sad that he is proving haters to be right about him though. I wish he had of been an elite QB for us.

  25. Anonymous Says:

The defense allowing 16 pts without the pick 6 lost the game today?

  26. Ndog Says:

Unlike most I tell the truth without bias, today the QB sucked. Now Barber had a bad fumble, Perriman didn’t come back on the third pick, Jones fell on what would have been a huge screen play, OJ stopped running on a route and we had a FG blocked BUT if the QB plays better then we win this game period. The defense played fantastic, the running game wasn’t horrible and the oline provided good protection. That is not common but today it was so this loss falls on the QB.

  27. Adrnagy Says:

I want jameis back. We will be in playoff next year. But this offseason jameis needs to hangout with leftwhich. Lol. To improve on turnovers.
    But …
Bruce is out of his mind. My accept the kick off. Why kick a 58yd field goal with wind ..?
Also the defense didn’t stop the short handed Texans offense in the second half right? . Specially 80yard drive. I mean it was good to 3pt but the Texans chewup a lot of clock and control the tempo of game.

  28. Miller5252 Says:

I wouldn’t want to be the one who has to decide on if and how much he’s worth. Yes Winston has a lot of good things going for him, but……. the stupid mistakes haven’t stopped in 5 years and today the D was at there best and they couldn’t carry the turnovers. Even with a good D they can’t hold a good team when they’re gassed because they’re on the field the whole time. Over the last 6 weeks it does look like Winston has gotten better and is figuring out the new system. But how do you pay Winston and build a D that can handle 5 TO a game it just doesn’t happen. If you can get a good QB that can keep his head out of his a*% do it.

  29. unbelievable Says:

Well this isn’t the 1st time ( or 2nd, or even 3rd) that Rappaport has claimed to have some big Bucs scoop, only to be completely full of chit.

That said, Winston will be back next year.

  30. Rob Says:

The fact is the Buccaneers will NEVER win a championship with America’s turnover machine (The human ATM) at the helm. What are the odds of the ATM getting us deep in the playoffs without having a meltdown 4 interception game to end our season? 100%. That is why you cannot resign him to a guaranteed franchise quarterback contract. You cannot trust him to consistently NOT give the ball to the other team. He has MF 28 interceptions folks and counting. I don’t care how many touchdowns or yards he throws for if he gift wraps multiple interceptions a half dozen or more times per year. He will undoubtedly do the same thing in the playoffs, that is if we are ever lucky enough to make the playoffs with him. Let him go and let’s move on. Go Bucs!

  31. Jeagan1999 Says:

One of two things is wrong with this team….we either have a QB who is too erratic and inconsistent to be a reliable winner in this league….OR….we have a GM and front office that can’t build a solid enough team around the QB to make up for his obvious deficiencies.

Actually, we may have 2 things wrong here!

Maybe Winston can give Jason Licht a ride out of town on the same rail!

  32. JimmyJack Says:

Haters and nugglers aside we as a fan base should give ourselves a pat on the back for staying patient with Winston. Kneejerk reactions can be detrimental to a team. Patience more often can keep rewards then kneejerk. This time we may have gotten burned if they move on from Winston. He would not have lasted this long in most other NFL cities.

Bruce will make the proper decision. Believe that.

  33. Craig Says:

It would be nice if the next game was given to Ryan Griffin, he can’t do worse than Jameis did today.

It would, hopefully, give Jameis some food for thought, something to chew on.

It might give the Bucs some leverage when the sit downs happen. I would like to see Jameis walk. I know next season will not be better either way. Jameis is Jameis and today was almost an epitome of his game.

A rookie, or Ryan Griffin, would allow for some hope for next season, instead of the same old drag.

  34. Anonymous Says:

Joe, this is info operations, strategic communiaction….plain and simple. We do it in the business all the time. In the past week, we have seen pro and con Winston reports, with “sources.” Yes, they have their sources. And they hang on every word, and the “sources” know it. It moves price, to and fro. And there wll be more. Have a nice day. Consider two years, 40 mil, 30 mil guaranteed. That will be a mint for each side.

  35. Jean Lafitte Says:

That’s the only way Winston goes is if Licht goes, otherwise Licht will die on his own sword.

  36. SteelStudBuc Says:

Let him play next game so he can try to get 30 interceptions.
That milestone is really close I can feel it.

  37. ElBajito43 Says:

No Way!!! DO NOT put RG3 in!! WINSTON MUST be allowed to go play well vs ATL so that he can FOOL EVERYONE AGAIN…

PSYCH 1 taught me about this guy.

JW3 is like a TOXIC RELATIONSHIP

He will recognize when he is losing his gro.pe
And start to re adjust. JW3 will always pull out some incredible games, but this is just the same as when the cheater puts on a show for his GF so that he can “save” the relationship….. only to do it again OVER AND OVER

EACH TIME @Jimmyjohns wounds are ripped open again and ALL OF BUCSLIFE is ABUSED EMOTIONALLY by this SCAM ARTIST.

But he cannot help his disorder he is damaged goods. The TRUE SCAMMER IS GLAZY BOY JOEL and GUMP PAPA BWUCY is clueless. Looks like he is about to have a health scare each and every Red Flag 🚩 overrule

  38. NPRSageBoy Says:

Finally, some sanity in a nitwit Buccaneer organization.

There is NO freaking way JayMiss deserves a long term contract.

  39. soggy Says:

Who knows what really is going to happen but I know this.. SO tired of the turnovers..

  40. Anonymous Says:

JimmyJack….LOL…what a seat-stealing hot and cold maniac. Get real…you change your position more than Winston throws picks. Stop this “we” stuff. Real fans are in the stadium every week, sitting in their assigned seats.

  41. IrishTony Says:

    We have a defense!

  42. Anonymous Says:

Hey Arians makes a recommendation, he doesn’t make the call. The Glazers are the ones who see the empty seats and late in game giveaways by the man THEY were paitent with. And they see the tepid response when Winston’s name is called. They see the picks and fell the frustration much more often than elation. Arians has less to with it many of you think.

Arians is a cheap live-for-the-moment coach. This is temp gig for him. The owners know it, and or okay with it if they get the eval they need. BA is also lazy. He doesn’t want to start over, so he will recommend a short term deal to let him claim victory either way. Don’t forget, this is the same loon who didn’t want to ratttle fragile Winston with competition. I think he’s going to be directed to change his tune for next year. The Glazers know he is not the future. Any other team want to sign Winston up for big bucks? LOL….no. no no.

  43. SteelStudBuc Says:

The empty stadium tells u all u need to know. Remember Fitzpatrick bearded fans vs Steelers on monday night football last year, selling tickets… the fans ate it up… 95% capacity. Fitzpatrick did toss 3 interceptions tho in a 3 point loss.

Jameis games are half empty… everybody knows what’s really gonna happen… interceptions all damn day every day throwing pick 6s all damn day every day fans don’t wanna come see Winston… hes not a draw, hes a buzz kill. Fundamentals trump all in sports, and hes out there lollygaggin around throwing into triple coverage for strange reasons.

  44. JimmyJack Says:

Anon. Ok bro. I’m one of the few that is saying I would keep Winston. But won’t cry if Bruce decides differently.

Don’t confuse critism with jumping ship. Just cause I support somebody means I can’t criticize? That’s foolishness.

P.S. Last time I checked the So. Endzone had a staffing area without assigned seating.

  45. BrianBucs Says:

Arians is towing the Bucs company line here.
Jason Licht will not get rid of Winston if he throws even 50 picks . He has done everything he can to make Winston a franchise QB
Licht hire Arians for one reason and one reason only, and that was to make a successful QB here and the face of the franchise, there for saving his job.
I guarantee you the decision has always been made but they really need for Winston to look really good so they can sell their decision to the fan base.
Obviously today did not help their cause.

  46. Firstbucsfanever1976 Says:

We are the laughing stock. We can’t win with JW.

  49. NPRSageBoy Says:

If today’s game with Texans was a “playoff audition” for Bucs/JayMiss like BA said, JayMiss failed miserably.

Kinda like National Championship game vs Mariota

Chokers choke and JayMiss is a world class choker.

    Peace, out

  50. Buccfan37 Says:

The Bucs have always been good at being themselves, the laughable losers. The team has developing talent but how to win more than lose is a continuing work in progress decades in the making.

  51. EEK Says:

I think Winston is being Winston.
    Padded stats.
    Big numbers.
    Zero big wins.
Exciting and exhilarating even but consistently disappointing.

  52. Tye Says:

    SteelStudBucs says:
“Remember Fitzpatrick bearded fans vs Steelers on Monday night football last year, selling tickets… the fans ate it up… 95% capacity.”

the true pulse of the fan base… back then a large majority of the fan base was done with Winston… the beard created an atmosphere of hope for a winning season… Winston gets the start and that large portion of fans felt attendance was just a waste of time..
Those three games with the beard were sure memorable though… and for positive reasons!

  53. DoooshLaRue Says:

    I’m tired and 1987 is missing……. again!

EEK I hear you. I still like Winston but he has plenty big stats little or no big wins

  57. DooshLaRue Says:

Would you go so far as to say your hero was……… CLUELESS today?
    I certainly would.

    JayMiss still sucks.
Sorry some of you were fooled!

  58. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I appreciate Ndog showing up and finally realizing that Jay Miss was responsible for the loss. Now let’s look at the real truth and realize he threw 6 pics, because two were dropped that were easy pics.
Jay Miss was a #1 pick. Jay Miss is who he is. He has the best receivers in the league and without Evans and Godwin he is horrible. Both those guys save his ass.
It’s time to recognize what you have with Jay Miss. A guy that gives it his all, but that’s simply not enough. He stares down receivers, has no pocket presence and is inaccurate. Other than that, he’s a great QB. No one will question his heart.

  59. Architek79 Says:

I think the BUCS organization and the Bucs fans deserve Winston. It’s so Tampa Bay to contemplate keeping this trash.

  60. Jerry Says:

Look by no means am I a Jameis fan, I don’t like my QBs coming in with numerous off the field allegations and a penchant for TO’s. I watch every game expecting the worse and wanting to be proven wrong, it’s just he doesn’t play winning football IMO, we will constantly be stuck at .500 because actual playoff teams can capitalize on the generous field position Jameis provides. Are we a QB away from winning a Super Bowl? No not by a long shot but none of you can tell me he gave us a chance to win today against and GOOD team, but hey he won the blowout with the Rams that one time this year so let’s sign up for 4 more years at $100 million and continue being stuck in mediocrity.

  61. firethecannons Says:

I believe BA, why broadcast now that Winston will remain a Buc, what if he gets hurt? what if he throws 10 picks in a game–he is not keepable at that point. Winston will likely be a Buc but this game just brought his price way down.

  62. Anonymous Says:

we need to scour the later rounds draft for a quarterback–sort of like a minshew for the Bucs or a dak for the Bucs

  63. Jim bob Says:

Most quarterbacks can throw for million yards and touchdowns if they took the same risk as Jaymiss. His stats mean nothing when he gives the bail away so much

  64. Aceofaerospace Says:

After feeling good about Winston for a couple weeks, I’m back on the franchise him and draft a QB early again. Just not reliable, I’m sorry.

  65. July Joe Says:

According to the author of the Jameis book, Arians is simply ticked the guarantee of at the very least a transition tag for JW was “leaked” by someone inside the Bucs to Rappaport.

^ THAT seems like the most likely thing that happened.

Bucs guaranteed JW he’s get at least $25m on the transition tag for next year & in return JW agreed to play instead of sit out the last 2 games (as there was no reason for him to play with a broken thumb and three wide receivers all out w/ injury in meaningless games, after setting the all-time back to back 450 yard records and everyone praising him … MOST QBs would have just sat the rest of the games out and waited for their money).

Seems pretty obvious when you think about it and I’ll take the author of the JW book’s words on Jameis way before anyone else speaking about JW … he’s been right on everything so far.

  66. Jed Says:

28 interceptions you can’t make the playoffs doing that! They have to move on Winston does not deserve to make 25 million a season.

  67. ElBajito43 Says:

Anonymous is making LOTS OF SENSE

QB in 2nd or 3rd round or just Trade Howard and Evans for draft capital then move up to get TUA and convince Chase Young to come to Tampa Bay….. then solve Global Warming and Peace on Earth 🌍

And BTW yes where is 1987 LOSER???

  68. mark2001 Says:

Any other time, we would think such a story was started by Jameis’s agent to heat up the negotiations for next year. And considering the way Jameis generally plays against good team, I’m starting to believe that was the case.

  69. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

On the field he really is Vinny Testaverde 2.0:
    Heisman Trophy
    #1 overall pick
    Throws lots of interceptions
    Can sometimes sling it
    Not many/any playoff games
    Not a winner

  70. Dan Says:

Same old story. Winston throws a ton of picks and his apologists blame the defense. You can’t win meaningful games when you turn the ball over and for 5 straight seasons Winston has done that. In fact he has 20 more picks than the next highest guy and why any Bucs fan thinks that will change in year 6 is straight Delusion

  71. bucnole Says:

Personally I think Arians will hav only a small amount of say in this decision. The glazers will go with their gut like they always do

  72. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I want to see Griffin play a whole game. I don’t care if he sucks.

  73. Joseph Mamma Says:

Good follow up question for Arian’s Joe when he said he doesn’t make those decisions until the season is over:

Then why did you announce Shaq Barrett ain’t going nowhere the other day when asked?

  74. BucsNY96 Says:

Hard to believe Arians when he goes “he ain’t going anywhere” about Barrett BUT 🤐 what do I know. No decisions are made yet 😂😭😂😂😭😭
