Dotson Talks Turnovers

December 21st, 2019

Turnover talk.

After the loss in the Tampa Turnoverfest today, Joe got a chance to speak with veteran right tackle Demar Dotson.

The big man is known for speaking from the heart. And Joe asked him what goes through his mind while busting his tail throughout the game, and often getting pounded on himself each play, and then to see his offensive teammates give the ball away more than Santa Claus in the Treasure Island Christmas Eve parade tossing candy to children who line the streets.

“First of all, five turnovers — it’s hard to beat anybody,” Dotson said. “I think four of those were interceptions but you don’t know why those interceptions were [made]. You don’t know why those interceptions occurred. You don’t know if wide receivers ran the wrong routes or is the quarterback doing to much or did he have pressure in his face that caused him to throw the ball?

“You don’t know until you go back and watch the film to see why those interceptions occurred.

“But it just goes back to it is hard to beat anybody with five turnovers. I mean, that is almost impossible to do. Maybe a bad, bad football team. But a good football team that is going to the playoffs, it is hard to dig yourself out of a hole.”

Dotson gave the defense major props for keeping the Bucs in the game where the team actually had a couple of chances to take the lead in the fourth quarter.

But then came two critical drops and another pick that was not dropped.

    Exactly.

Hard to succeed against playoff caliber talent with all the turnovers.
    Amen.

  2. 813bucboi Says:

Can’t beat too many teams with 5 TOs…..

    GO BUCS

  3. Ndog Says:

Biggest play of the game might have been the tackle by Watson cause if not White scores and the entire game changes.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Defense kept this from being a total blowout…..

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We lost the game because we lost the 2nd half 6-3

  6. Brandon Says:

Dotson actually played great along with the entire Oline.

  7. Jean Lafitte Says:

Don’t forget the many overthrows with a clean pocket to throw from. Those incompletions were opportunities lost.

  8. JimmyJack Says:

Brandon so sad. So many Bucs played great today. More then well enough to win by probably 90% of the players.

Yet again the mistakes of a few cost the entire team and a entire fanbase. And Winston was the sole contribute. This freaking hurts man.

  9. Brandon Says:

I’m not upset. I see so much promise in this team. This D might be a top 5 unit next season. There aren’t a better trio of young CBs in the league. If we can get our front 7 back this D is fire. Favre threw 29 ints in his one and only season in NY. The season before he had a career year with Minnesota.

  10. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

People say all Jameis needs is a defense

But even when his d plays good he gifts the other team free points

  11. Dewey Selmon Says:

You are right Tampabucfan, defense kept this from being a blowout, and Jameis kept this from being a blowout. we handling them even when we were playing catch up. We could of scored 34 today and a defense teeing off on Watson trying to catch up. But that never happened and this will go down in Buccaneer lore. Rich Eisen will never forget this games. The announcers were entertained. lol

  12. Jim Says:

Defense played lights out, giving Watson very little time and our OLine protected Winston very well. Joel Segal must have crapped his pants…

  13. Rob Says:

The ATM will always cost us games with his picks. It is what he does best. As Carly Simon said, Nobody does it better. Makes me feel sad for the Bucs. We can’t count on the ATM to not give the ball away to the other team. Let him walk and move on.

  14. WeeManOfScots Says:

Brandon…we have been saying the same crap every….single…..year…

“The future looks bright” “Jameis will get better”..

Come on man…let’s keep it real…Jameis lost us the game..and many others..read what Shannon Sharpe wrote…”Jameis cost the Bucs their season”…and he was a fanboy like you!

  15. gotbbucs Says:

Winston has more Interceptions than about the top five or six QB’s in the NFL all have combined for the year. Good QB’s in today’s game with today’s rules don’t throw interceptions like this at this ridiculous rate. Nothing anyone tells me will convince me otherwise. I don’t want to hear about Brett Favre and Eli Manning or any other nonsensical names from the past. Today’s game is officiated differently.

Its OK to blame this QB for interceptions, most of them are his fault.

  16. lewis Says:

JW has to go fan base is gone with him

  17. Tackleblockwin Says:

Had to work today so missed the game. Looked at the box score. How in the world does Jameis throw 4 picks and we only lose by 3? Defense must have been killing it today.

  18. WeeManOfScots Says:

Tackle: Yes the defense kept us from being blown away…

  19. BrianBucs Says:

Dot has been around long enough to know that you can’t play high quality football if you keep turning the ball over.
This team is a QB away from being a playoff contender

  21. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Dot knows his QB had time and threw four pics. He just didn’t want to throw him under the bus, but Jay Miss already had tire tracks all over him.

  22. Pelsbuc61 Says:

JW could have easily thrown 7 picks today. He always throws up on himself in pressure games against good teams. That will never change no matter the contract but this idea of keeping him because there’s no one better is idiotic at best.

  23. Jerry Says:

Of the four interceptions, I rewatched the plays, and in my unprofessional opinion 2 were garbage reads and 2 were slightly inaccurate throws that became 50/50 balls that maybe an Evans or Godwin forces the incompletion. All in all not a pretty game by Mr Entertainment, but hey the wind was blowing and he has a fractured thumb and missing Evans and Godwin and the sun was out and there was an overzealous pretzel guy in the lower bowl…all the excuses for America’s QB.

  24. WeeManOfScots Says:

    “Overzealous pretzel guy” ..LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Bucnjim Says:

I like the direction this team is going but the excuses HAVE to stop. I don’t want to get rid of Winston because he can be a franchise QB. The Problem is when you make excuses you aren’t addressing the real problem which is turnovers. Chance of winning when turning the ball over 4 times in the NFL is: 9% and that is a fact not opinion.

  26. BigHog Says:

It was the interceptions, yes it was but what killed our chances of winning were the drops by our Tight Ends!!

  27. July Joe Says:

Dotson isn’t an IDIOT like many Bucs fans … he knows the INTs while ALWAYS blamed on the QB, are many times really on the WRs … Arians said as much after the game as well.

As for JW … he was off … who would’ve thunk he’d be off with a busted hand and throwing to dudes off the street.

However, had Watson not tripped on the easy TD pass that would have been 4 more points … enough to win … even with the TURNOVERS …

With Godwin and Evans the Bucs would have blown out the Texans today …

  28. Bigbucfan90 Says:

All I’m saying is you can tell Godwin and Evans weren’t playing today had they been playing I think Tampa blows them out even with five t/o. I was glad to see our defense come together and put on a show though hopefully we can carry that same energy into next year because had they played like that since the beginning we would be in the playoffs
