Who Gets The Blame?

November 3rd, 2019

Familiar folly

Below is video of the critical fumble by America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston late in today’s loss to the Seahawks.

Who’s fault was it?

You can see below that Donovan Smith hits Jameis’ elbow on the fumble, but was it enough to jar the ball loose like that?

Probably, but Joe isn’t sure.

Last week, Donovan Smith also got bull rushed into Jameis that led to a critical turnover.

Bad teams find ways to lose games.

Was Jameis just unlucky or was it something more? You make the call in the comments after you look at the video shared by ScuttleBucs podcast co-host Tom Lang.

    Unbelievable!!!!

  3. gotbbucs Says:

Does it really matter at this point?

  4. Pete I Says:

Irrelevant it is still another turnover and Jameis ” meaningless stats ” Winston America’s QB who played well today is 23-39

    How many turnovers is that?

  5. Fart boy Says:

    Jameis farts too much

  6. 813bucboi Says:

    Where is JWs pocket awareness?

5years in the NFL he still doesn’t have pocket awareness

    GO BUCS

  7. Armybucsfan Says:

Leave it to Winston to single handedly lose another game with a dumb mother $ucking play without being touched and pull a pee wee football quarterback play for the other team. My GOD WTF!!!!!!!! We need to bench Winston and our entire secondary. Another embarrassment from another team that is filled with talent just not where it counts.

  8. Anonymous Says:

Arians will laud Winston for only turning it over once today. Yay Jameis!

It’s his fumble, his fault. Other than another game-losing mistake, he had a great game.

  9. ModHairKen Says:

    Does it really matter?

  10. Anonymous Says:

Jameis was the 12th man today in SEA.

  11. SteveK Says:

I believe the ball should’ve been put already on this play!?

  12. Couch Fan Says:

Its incredibly tiring seeing idiotic plays like this every week by this guy/team. Im so sick of it.

  13. Buc believer Says:

If you say Jameis single handily lost this game with all due respect your a… never mind. ANYONE who is fair minded knows it was our secondary in this porous defense that lost this game

  14. TiredOfLosingGoBuc Says:

We need a secondary REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD!!! I CANT TAKE IT NO MORE..

  15. Bucsfan951 Says:

Who cares! Let’s start talking about the draft for next year. Hopefully the Bucs select another MLB with our top 5 pick!!!

  16. Bucsfan951 Says:

If Licht is gm next yr, I pray he doesn’t select any cbs. He can’t do that worth a damn.

  17. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Winston played great. If you can’t see the video evidence that his own player caused the fumbled, then… Um… you can’t see, which means you can’t read this or you so biased that you see what you want. I’m a Famous Jameis Winstoneer. Jameis Bashers have so much else to be mad about. The team lost and it wasn’t Jameis’ fault.. so you can’t Blame Jameis! Hahahahahaha

  18. George Rauh Says:

    34 points enough said

  19. Kaleb Says:

A Touchdown that could have been picked, a muffed fumble on the goal line, and a late fumble. The secondary hurts, but I need a QB who doesn’t need the ball to bounce is way to win. That fumble reminded me a lot of the pick six against the Rams

  20. ElBajito43 Says:

    @Fart Boy
I like how you think my man 💭 💨

  21. Sharthappens Says:

It obvious the QB and his family have money on the games. It was an intentional fumble. We win by 3 if he does not fumble. Although he still would have won with the -3 cover. You can take’em out of the hood but can’t take’em out of ….

  22. Greg Says:

You know what really missed me off is that these f###kers have rubbed off on the Lightning and now THEY can’t win!!! Thanks a lot Bucs!!!

  23. Sharthappens Says:

Tonight’s presser. J W “ we fixen to get better”

  24. Jameis Almighty! Says:

The comments section on this site is hilarious. Bunch of Jameis Bashers and Famous Jameis Supporters

  25. Gettinthebucs Says:

I watch a lot of college ball and I don’t see a QB in the next two drafts that are game changers. I do IT work so I could be wrong. O just get the feeling that Tom Brady or Pat Mahomes could come here and we would see similar results. The talent they have might have won us a game at this point. This TEAM is terrible. Surprisingly coaching seems to be an issue as well. I’ve watched them target Tanner hudson twice in the end zone the last two weeks. Where were those play calls for OJ?

  26. Bucfan1988 Says:

Such a sad story to see dumba$$ clowns on here try & blame this loss on Jameis.

Yeah the dude make mistakes but this was his BEST overall game I’ve seen from him in a LONG time.

Why was Donovan Smith’s left arm dangling out wide when he hit Winston’s elbow on that play? Shouldn’t he have had those big mits on the DE he was up against.

FLUKE tie over to say the least…Wasn’t on Jameis folks!!

And btw did I mention how much our pass D sucks???

Oh, and even though DW45 made a couple of mistakes, he flashed big time in this game!! 12 total tackles, 1/2 sack, & 2 forced fumbles..Not too shabby!!

  27. Greg Says:

C’mon guys, I’m not a Jameis believer anymore either, but give him the benefit of the doubt on that one, the ball came out when his elbow was hit.

  28. tgregs Says:

So oe embraces the SODDI defense…typical. Never admit Joe is clueless on QBs

  29. YuccoBruce Says:

11 seasons of this sheet !!! This is absolutely ridiculous and this city settles for mediocrity?? The NFL needs to step in and demand the Glaz Kids sells the team ASAP because even though we suck they still make $200 and they have also ruined Manchester United !!! To have Licht who has no clue how to be a GM and keep bringing in these used coaches is a joke, but just look around the league and other teams and they are all improving ?? Yet we suck and now two years in a row we’ve missed on drafts and yet the same people will be doing it next draft ?? I’m so sick of this organization and honestly just move the team because we have the Bolts and maybe the Rays, but look at those organizations and how they are run.. Then looks at this team over the past 11 years and it’s a disgrace !!!

  30. It’s a bucs life Says:

At this point, Who cares whose fault it was. The Bucs find new and creative ways to lose. Bucs defense gave up two game winning drives today, lol. Pathetic.

  31. Couch Fan Says:

You can say what you want. Anybody with eyes can see our secondary played terrible but you are lying to yourself or just in denial if you dont think that fumble, regardless of whos at fault, played a huge factor in the loss.

  32. SteelStudBuc Says:

    @Sharthappens

Haha I reckon we gon’ do good stuff next week an get better

  33. Sean Says:

If you truly blame jameis for this loss you’re an idiot. Seriously I can’t put into words how’s stupid of a comment that is because he did nothing but put us in the best possible situation today. Bowles not going to zone coverage is what hurt us the most today.

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

Winston has unusually small hands for a quarterback.

Winston’s hands reportedly measured 9 3/8 inches at the NFL combine. That would make him a rarity among NFL quarterbacks. Out of the 61 QBs who’ve started a game since 2006, only 14 have had hands 9 3/8 inches or smaller. Twelve of those quarterbacks have started two or more games, and the results, with one notable exception, are not pretty.

    http://www.espn.com/sportsnation/post/_/id/12347816/jameis-winston-small-hands-not-good-sign-draft-qbs

This is not the first time we’ve seen the ball fly out like that…as someone posted…remember the Rose Bowl?

But yes it was Smith’s fault because JW can do no wrong.
Can somebody please get to Ronde because he did not bellyache about Smith and just pointed out that JW lost yet another fumble.

  35. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

Pretty obvious the hit on the elbow caused the fumble.

  36. Rayjay1122 Says:

The blame goes squarely on the Glazers, Jason Licht and BA. This roster is a joke. Those men are responsible for the roster. Simple.

  37. RealityCheck Says:

Sharthappens – Yes. I’m sure the QB has money on the games trying to lose while competing for a contract worth millions and also having is elbow hit on the play. You nailed it. Carry on with your subtle racism…what was that about “the hood” again. So many absolute clowns on this site. Do you ever even try to think?

  38. ElBajito43 Says:

    @RealityCheck

    AGREED

  39. stpetebucsfan Says:

Yes our secondary is full of rookies who made some rookie mistakes…out of position…bad angles…

But guess what…Seattle’s secondary sucks just as much as ours.

Carson is better than ROJO…Lockett is good but their targets are not as good as ours…LB’s..very close….OL…again pretty even

QB….NO FREAKING CONTEST. THAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE.

Swap QB’s for this game and we win and Seattle loses.

  40. Jean Lafitte Says:

he still has small hands ..don’t take much to knock it out of his hands. Hey doesn’t he lead the league in fumbles?

  41. Couch Fan Says:

Every week its something with Jameis. Hes either the unluckiest QB in the league or the most clumsy. Ill let you decide. As for myself, I begged us to draft Jameis. Ive tried to support him but I just cant anymore. Making new excuses every week for 5 years now should tell you something.

  42. down in the dirt doug Says:

Jameis played a good game–we have to give him that.Impossible to win with this backfield.A GREAT BIG —THANKS A LOT– LICHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. cgmaster27 Says:

Video evidence right in front of some of you clowns of smiths arm hitting Jameis’ and you still can’t believe it. We put up 34 points and you still complain, it’s literally all you people do. Jameis played fantastic today while the secondary once again gets smoked and you all still nitpick. Jameis keeps playing like this and he;s not going anywhere and there’s not a thing you all can do about it.

  44. Dapostman Says:

D Smith is just not good enough to be a starting LT on an NFL team. He’s good enough to be a RT. They better get that LT position figured out next season. Your LT can not get beat every game and get your QB hit from behind. Can’t happen. Figure it out!

  45. JimmyJack Says:

The one that bothers me was the play where he just drops the snap for no reason?

I mean what the heck? That was a critical moment. And they play shows you first hand how stupid mistakes infect the rest of the team because next play was a presnap pentatly………Following that we see an endzone drop, a receiver running out of bounds, players running into each other on ST, missing a TD pass to Evans.

But Winston scored when he had to. Huge critical drives. Our ability to win today was destroyed almost fully by one player. He was that freaking bad.

  46. D-Rome Says:

Today’s game is not on Jameis at all.

  47. JimmyJack Says:

The only way we could of won this game is if one of our non secondary players forced an turnover. That was literally our only chance. Nearly impossible to depend on that for a win.

  48. Buc1987 Says:

Couch Fan…everyone remembers how bad I wanted Jameis on this team.

I gave up on him 2 weeks ago after the back to back fumbles.

It kind of feels good to give up on him.

  49. Capt. Tim Says:

Thank God Jameis got his arm bumped. Thats why we lost.
No other NFL QB gets touched in the pocket.
    Poor Jameis

  50. Buc1987 Says:

    cgmaster27 Says :

“Jameis keeps playing like this and he;s not going anywhere and there’s not a thing you all can do about it”

He won’t keep playing like this…that’s one of the main things the bashers always state. That’s the problem…..1 good game plus 3 bad…does not make a good QB.

I’m done with him. Pretty sure the next guy won’t fare much better. This is the Bucs after all. They can suck just as bad without Jameis too.

  51. NPRSageBoy Says:

    When in doubt, blame JayMiss.

92 turnovers in almost 5 years tells the tale.

    Peace, out

  52. Troy Says:

Anybody who thinks Winston played great in this game needs to look at the other sideline to see what playing great looks like. Did Winston make some good throws? Yep. Did he miss some wide open receivers? Yep. Did he fumble? Yep. He played ok against greatness and got beat.

  53. Jean Lafitte Says:

    blah blah blah we lost!

  54. MadMax Says:

Look, the football Gods are smiling on us….we’re gonna get some high draft picks and hopefully be able to land Burrow, a RT, and a CB.

  55. JimmyJack Says:

Troy both QBs played a great game today. Hard to say Winston could not of done the same thing Wilson did in OT if we won the flip.

  56. CChead Says:

A body who thinks that fumble is on JW or this loss is on JW is a f*cking moron.

  57. JJV Says:

Earlier I watched a different replay with a different angle. This replay confirms Smith hit Winston’s elbow. My previous comments were wrong in judgement.

  58. JimmyJack Says:

Winston almost got lucky enough to win us that game. His only chance was to get lucky twice with a missed FG and a flip…..or……If our defense could have got a turnover at the end………Our chances of winning came down to a turnover or sheer lucky. Not a dependable way to win……But it’s all you can do when your defense is entirely incapable.

  59. Nptbuc Says:

Cgmaster27. You are right on the button. Haters will be haters. This loss has zero to do with the QB. We have absolutely no secondary that can do no more than flash 2 or 3 plays per game. That doesn’t win games. It loses them. Couple with coaches not seeing when someone is gassed or just overmatched and not replacing him or trying to get him help= poor secondary play. So much can be seen by couch potatoes that can’t be seen by coaches on the sidelines. Disgusting.

  60. Couch Fan Says:

Jameis is just good enough to keep us out of contention for a high enough pick to get one of the better QBs. We will have to trade up to get one. Thats Bucs luck.

  61. orlbucfan Says:

How about Buce Arians get the blame for this loss? Cos the whole team showed up and should have won it. Arians need to retire. Let Leftwich and Bowles coach this team.

  62. orlbucfan Says:

Major tired and it shows: how about Bruce Arians ….. He is responsible for this loss and that ain’t a typo.

  63. Jameishas2go Says:

So if I am being consistent and fair with my criticism, I thought at first it was Donovan, then replay made me believe it was Jameis but this shows it was Donovan Smith. Jameis was let down by the following: Scotty Miller, Tanner Hudson, DeMar Dotson, Donovan Smith, Mike Edwards, and Jamel Dean.

I think Jameis had his best game of the season.

  64. Bob in Valrico Says:

I listenerd to chris sims evaluating QB’s.If memory serveves ,Jameis gipis the ball on the second and and fourth seam, where most others use the third and fifth
seams. Makes sense that the 3 and 5 thread move you closer to the middle of
ball and gives you more control.

  65. Buccfan37 Says:

I never saw Winstons elbow get hit even on the replay but why else would the ball fall out of his hand? If the pass defense wasn’t so crappy trying to cover Lockett the Bucs may have fared better because he alone made the Bucs burnt toast.

  66. Bucsfan951 Says:

    BLAME LICHT. HE EFFING SUCKS!!!!!!

  67. Armybucsfan Says:

It’s called pocket presence and winston doesn’t have it. If he did the fumble on the goal line wouldn’t have happened and we wouldn’t have lost the game from another bone headed Winston turn over. He has more turnovers this season than he has touchdowns. So someone please keep defending his worthless asssss. Look at Lamar Jackson. Now that’s a qb I wish we had. But nooooooooo Licht is worthless at selecting talent in the draft. Our secondary sucks and so does our QB.

  68. Anonymous Says:

Yeah 34 point people….one touch down he lucked out on a dropped pick 28 pts….and a fumble recovery gave him a short field..good game not great

  69. stpetebucsfan Says:

    JJ

He got very lucky when an interception in the end zone was batted up in the air and Breshard actually made a play.

That could have very easily been a TD drive ending int but nobody seems to ever bring up JW”s great luck…only his bad luck.

  70. Bucsace Says:

Gonna take a miracle for Jameis to be back here next season

  71. JimmyJack Says:

St Pete I didn’t mind Winston taking a risk throwing into coverage on that batted ball to Perriman. At 7-7 it’s not a bad situation to try a force a full TD lead.

The one that makes me pull my hair out is when he drops the ball for no good reason on the snap. The score was 14-7 and you must go up by two scores in that situation. Your QB must understand the situation better and must protect the football. That was a terrible terrible play. He must be better. In fairness he was better quickly made up for it and put it in the Endzone and scored some huge late game TDs but he still must eliminate that mistake. It’s unacceptable.

  72. Tye Says:

It wasn’t hard enough to visibly move or alter Ws elbow so if it only takes a brush on someone’s hand to get the ball free, he must have little to no grip on the ball and there is why he fumbles so often..

    New QB now please!

  73. Brandon Says:

I have recently been converted to the Jameis Blamer camp… but he played very well yesterday and now I see that even the fumble wasn’t totally his fault.

  74. Jimmy T Says:

U Jameis haters should read Author Jameis 1of1? HE blows u IDIOTS who don’t know a football from a banana away! Name me a QB that could win with the 28th ranked running game and the 30th ranked defense. That’s what Jameis has dealt with since being the number one pick. U guys are clueless. Guess what the BUCS will go 5-3 the last 8 and no franchise QB will be available so u guys can cry about Jameis again next year

  75. Ja'Boi Shaywei Says:

Opp’s I don’t know what I was thinking. I thought Joe Bucs what is a fan page. But I had it all wrong it’s just a page for a bunch of whining ladies to be able to vent about someone who has way more Talent than you critical Mrs. would like to say he does. I say when someone thinks about someone all the time and becomes critical it’s kind of like the chick who says her baby daddy ain’t s***. But in turn she really loves him. Come on girls let’s not take a slowed down video and don’t look at the momentum of his elbow after the So called love tap as you make it seem. Show the regular speed version. So please all the haters and Joe Bucs, go do a better job for the Bucs since you have the answers to all of their problems. Probably want to be versatile since you’ll have to play more positions than just quarterback. Oh yeah! You are the man Jimmy T.

  76. Ja'Boi Shaywei Says:

Pay attention when you looking and analyze well. People tend to look but don’t see what they should. It’s kinda like leaning on they’re own understanding and not willing to learn. To the ones who commented on the fumbled snap!!! For you guys, “Class Is In Session”. The center never put the ball in Jameis has hand. Just like most of you people blame Jameis for the inadvertent snap in last week’s game. If Jameis Winston is responsible for all the snap miscues, then why do we need a center. I just want you guys to go fact check look at the replays. Ja’Boi Shaywei is the name of your teacher guys. Class is over!!!!

  77. Ja'Boi Shaywei Says:

Six rookies played in the secondary of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense against the Seattle Seahawks.. I get to hear fake football fans blame the young secondary for the loss. You got to be kidding me. Y’all act like they got blowed out. First year on the team, having to learn on the go, I think they did a good damn job. If you think I’m crazy, then who is Russell Wilson. A scrub! Wow can I remind you guys you his first 3 years it was as follows. NFC championships Super Bowl win Super Bowl loss. I guess I secondary does suck huh? Come on people. I can go in on y’all all night. But I have smarter people to talk to. Good night.
